I'm from Germany, am no real good help but I'm a kynologist and dogtrainer and I'm looking often for new homes and I hope these tipps will help you a little bit!
Look for a nearby German Shepard Association, or also for Dog Sports Association. Talk to them, explain the situation and the dog and ask for help. Also there are some very kindly breeders who knows the szene and know good people for German Shepards. ASK the shelters around.
When you found someone, let this person first give you a visit and have a walk together.
A German Shepard needs knowledge!!! This person should have owned one before! It needs to be a kind, patient person that will prove to the dog that it's worth to follow and beeing partners. Then give this person a visit.
A German Shepard needs good food, health insurance or health care, toys, collars, leashes, ....more toys, it's not cheap. The home needs to be clean and big enough, are there pictures of the dogs the person owned before? Is everything there the dog needs?
Sign a contract! The person who adopt the dog is not allowed to sell the dog, you are allowed to visit the dog and so on.

Driving home with our 8 month old adopted GSD, my parents' gift for my 12th birthday, she sat as far away from me on the back bench seat of our car as she could, pressed against the door. Over 30 minutes she slowly inched towards me on the seat, until she rested her head on my lap and went to sleep. For the next 11 years she was always at my side.

I have 2. GSDs are soooo smart and easy to train. They are velcro dogs for sure, but would not change that at all. Yes, all is true and are very much attached to me.

All so true, I have had 6 GSDs over 25 years; 2 at a time. I started when I had a 20 acre ranch; ended up with 2 so they would have company when I worked. Mine are all from German show lines, very healthy, smart, loving and dedicated. I love my Heidi and Charlie so much, especially since my husband died and I am alone. They are my family. They are very friendly to new friends and helpers. But they know when they meet a potential burglars. They can smell something I cannot detect. They have been correct every time. But they need a parent, a handler, to treat them well.

I've owned dogs for close to 35 yrs, and have had GSDs, Labs, Bostons, Dobermans. I currently have a crew of 4, two Bostons and two GSDs. I'm on my second pair of GSDs. Love them to death. I'm single, older, and my GSDs, past and present, have shown many times what wonderful, loyal, protective, loving dogs they are. No breed like them as far as I'm concerned.

So so true. I've personally had 5 in my life and they all have their different quirks.
Talking about my baby girl, Mindy is attached to my left hip 24 hours a day. Sleeps with me and she TALKS I swear. Like one of those Alaskan Husky dogs!!!!!!!
      Very unique.
Boy she gets extreamly excited when I come home.
When I'm putting on my shoes getting ready to go to work, she grabs one of my shoes and runs off with it.
      Doesn't want me to go.
Here gift of, look dad ,I got you something, dead snake, squirl, birds, possums, coons
It's her yard, nothing is safe if it's inside our fenced back yard.
If it has a heartbeat, it's dead.
      She also has sundowner syndrome.
As soon as the sun goes down, she starts her growling and patrolling our yard back and forth, in and out. She's learned how to open doors and even the refrigerator.
      Funny as shit.
But we caint keep a kitchen hand rag on the door.
She will open the fridge and start eating everything.

I've had German shepherd's in my life since I was 13 years old and I am now 58.my grandad got me my first rescue German shepherd for my 13th birthday. He helped me train Sandy. They love to work with you. If you put in the time and training and patience with them. You will have a fantastic and great dog At all the time. They are just a beautiful family dog you will be lucky to have a shower never mind a bath as your shepard will be in the bathroom with you. And they are the best baby sitter ever. My 2 German shepherd's MISTY AND ODIN love kids especially my family grandkids. I live right beside a primary school. All the kids and teachers know our dogs. A lot of the kids used to be scared of MISTY AND ODIN at first because of their size...Not now as through time they got used to them both. I've said it before and I'll say it again you don't get an ugly German shepherd either. I am biased ofcourse and I don't care just love the breed. Fantastic dogs too have in your life. Love from Glasgow Scotland.xx

We've had GSDs for well over 30 yrs now. I'm also a retired K9 officer and right now we have two young male GSDs. Gunnar is 1.5 yrs old and Blitz is 2. Both fit everything to a tee in the vid even though they are HIGHLY trained protection(Schutzhund) pups. All are imports(of course) and have their pink papers.

I only had a shepherd mix and all of these are true. I was leaving our beach house. I put her on the front porch until I was packed up. She went down the front stairs and back up the back stairs to watch through the door. My brother, she’s not letting you leave without her. And she slept curled up behind my legs in a twin bed. She actually growled when my niece came in the room. She was very attached to me and very protective. Of course I corrected the growl. She was just unsure. I miss her so much. Thank you for the video.

Watched a vid a while back saying how dogs hate it when you hug them. Supposedly makes them feel trapped. My GSD absolutely loved them. He'd lean into them and didnt care how long you'd hold him.

Good video even though I disagree with the separation anxiety as a sign of healthy attachment. This is a weakness not a virtue. A strong, sound, and secure German Shepherd would not show separation anxiety or destructive behavior when their parents leave the house. They may sit quietly by the door for an hour or so hoping you will return and get very happy once you come back, but otherwise they don't panic or get anxious.

I agree with everything you mentioned. I had my German Sheppard since he was 8 weeks old. He follows me everywhere around the house. Including the bathroom. I made the mistake of letting him sleep in my bed next to me when he was still a small puppy😂. Unfortunately, male "Old German Sheppards" get really big once they get older, so I had to buy a king-size bed. Now he has also his own place in my bedroom, but he prefers to sleep next to me. I do not mind, actually. More washing and more cleaning. He's very sweet and very socially towards other people, children, dogs... I raised him well. When we go hiking into the forrest, he never loses eyecontact. I do not have to use a leash. Where I go, he goes. Amazing bound and unbelievable loyal. I usually work from home in my study room, and from time to time, I have to leave him alone. When I return, he's overjoyed, starting to lick me. He loves hugging. Yep, he definitely sees me as his parent. He loves people in general, but I have no doubt that he would defend me if a stranger attacked me. Nobody in his right mind would do that anyway. Sometimes I go to the city with him (he knows this since he was a puppy, including traffic, public transport...) He's really tall and very black for a German Sheppard. The funniest part, although he loves people, is that most people cross the street when he's with me. In the metro, I always have enough place when he's with me. People who do know him are not afraid and come over to cuttle him, which he enjoys very much. SOCIALISATION is so important.

@yvesgysel9834 Mine is a rescue I’ve had since July 2023, about 14 months old, still growing & HUGE! I had to retire his GSD bed & get one for Great Danes! He is so sweet & calm, & ❤ to carry his soft 🐊 or LambChop soft toys, but folks are scared of him too. I was worried that what I really wanted, a male GSD, wasn’t a good idea since I’m older & live in a condo on the 25th fl, but it has worked out beautifully! He even makes sure I get down the stairs safely & is my best buddy. Getting great exercise with walking him too! TP to most = 🧻 but for us, TP means 🚽 Protection😊 I also know he would defend me with his life as well. My favorite command is when I tell him, “Elevator Manners,” & he sits & stays quietly for the ride.

Three were totally ruled by tigger ( the cat, who left home every time we got a new pup). I do sometimes think they were better friends then humans. True love. True love.simple as that.

My German shepherd checks all the boxes that you mentioned in this video. I’m so glad I watched it you made my day. I’m so blessed that my German Shepherd truly loves me as her parents. The only problem I have with her is she won’t walk on a leash. And she’s super strong. She loves just running free and being herself a German Shepherd. I wish I had a big yard where she could just be herself and run free. The only problem I have with her is she’s afraid of other dogs. Because when I first got her and I brought her to the dog park, two dogs knocked her over and ever since then, she’s been frightened of other dogs. So when I take her out, I have to make sure know where the dogs are around so she could play.

For her fear of dogs, you could still try introducing her to them, firstly from a distance where she can still see them but doesn’t react to them. Then reduce the distance gradually..

I’m not new to having dogs but I’m new to having a German shepherd. Now that I have two I can say.. with how these breeds are, maybe try a play date with a smaller dog or something similar to the size of your dog so he can build up confidence
My girl was attacked her first ever play date and it made her scared.. took 4 months of training and being by her side to gain up confidence to play and be dominant again

    • @mariep4018
      @mariep4018 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@grahammypoo3994 you have to be careful when you bring German Shepherd’s around small dogs. They are naturally herding dogs. And when they’re around small dogs, they feel that they have to do their job sometimes and they kind of push him a nudge them and they could hurt him because they’re very very strong once they mature. I have a Yorky and a German Shepherd and I always keep an eye on my Yorky because you never know. When we’re outside and we’re walking, she tends to go over to him and I get nervous in case she steps on him accidentally. And I know she wouldn’t mean to hurt him , she’s gentle as could be. Have a nice day.

I love this video. I have 2 Czech GSD's and owned one back 30 years ago and every thing she says in this video is totally true. Likewise, I myself after trying many dog breeds won't own any other dog breed but the GSD's they are just a perfect fit for me and my lifestyle except for a standard poodle they are great dogs too and make extant watch dogs, but they won't protect you where a GSD will. As far as shedding I bought a Roomba IRobot vacuum cleaner the one that cleans the corners too and in my opinion if you own a GSD you really need one of these things. I run mine every night and don't have any problems with dog hair at all since this thing picks it up but pushing a button one time a night is such hard work lol Great video keep up the good work

This is true of all the various breeds of dogs we ever had in my 75 years. I’m including the AKC breeds and mongrels. All followed me around the house, into the bathroom, standing between me and strangers, sleeping in my room to the point they would rise and walk to the side of my bed making sure I was okay, then lying back down in their bed. My friends, don’t invest $ in a Shepherd unless you have land and the willingness to train it, and walk that baby daily! I guess this holds true for Yorkies as well, only they don’t need tons of land to roam.😂

I totally agree with you 100% I have a little 5 working line German Shepherd pack in my farm born in Germany brought them to the US and a friend of mine asked me if I could go with him to get his first German Shepherd puppy so a few places where we went I didn't like their dogs and 2 of them asked me if I had experience with GSD and I said yes they asked if I have any and I said yes I have 5 they said are they pure breed and i said yes they are and both breeders asked me the same question are they AKC and i said of course NOT and they said the same mistake oh so yours are not pure breed then and i said of course they are and they said but they are not AKC registered and i told them WELL to be honest and first of all I am not a breeder and second of all I don't need to register my born in Germany shepherds to the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB is there any benefits ?
Anyways my friend found a good breeder in Florida and he got his puppy
But please people what this person mentioned before is truth fall in love with the rear end first

There's only one thing you can do, you start training him, there's no way around it. Aggression could be a sign of pent up energy he wants to get rid of, or he just doesn't know he's being aggressive and might consider it play.

That indicates ................................yes, that behaviour does indicate a possibility of several things including the rest of your family being frightened of your dog for some reason and not that your dog is so attached to you. A balanced GSD will never growl at people he/she knows UNLESS something has been done to him to make him frightened as well. Or he's in pain. You don't say how old the dog is. But if he's a senior or over 6 take him to the vet

I got him from a rural town in northern Ohio breeder claims all his siblings and parents are fine mentally and physically idk if she's lying or he is just a odd one from the group. You seem to be mistaking pack leader for parent.
Speaking as someone who has owned numerous GSD's over 40 odd years, a Shepherd (males in particular) will challenge you in their adolescent years with behaviour that seeks to find their place in the pack. Once this has been established then you couldn't want for a more loving and loyal dog. But they see (or at least they should if they've been brought up well) their owner as their pack leader, not a parent.

Dogs are pack animals. You’re not seen as a parent but as an alpha or beta in the pack on the basis of you enhancing survival by being a source of food, water and shelter.
