If you ask me, thought process is the most important thing. There is plenty of "how to" video touching technical side but just a handful those focusing on design thinking. Thanks a lot Tyler!
Having the timelapse play in the background is very helpful. It is nice to see your face at the bottom, because it makes it more personal and helps keep my attention.
Love the format Tyler! very insightful and not too long. I also really like the technical aspects on one end, and the thought process on the other end of the video, creates a nice balance
this was most useful... i think tutorial videos are fine but understanding the thought process is prime to break that glass ceiling in my head... thanks for this video
Hey Tyler, How do you feel about using photos from the internet for your own work? I am currently using all my own photos and trying to ask friends for holiday pictures and stuff to make a great database. I can imagine for commercial work you want to work copyright free. Would love to hear your opinion!
I like the process, I would like to learn how do you use the camera to get a nice perspective angle or define the lens, I don't know too much about that. Also which render program are you using?
Cølin Cølin right now I use c4d cause it’s relatively easy to use, but I’m trying to switch over to blender, a bit more complicated but more flexible and free.
Appreciate you posting this. I've been trying to understand my own process so this helps a lot. One thing I'm just wondering, do you feel blender is sufficient for the blockout/kit bashing phase? I'm pretty sure it would be, but just curious if there's a unique reason why you chose cinema 4d? Thanks!
Very different. Concept art is about design and problem solving. Matte painting is about making final illustrations to work as backgrounds in a.l production
@@TylerEdlin84 I see..if the concept art in your video above is taken as an example..what would be the role of a matte painter on top of this concept. Regards.
@@TylerEdlin84 Sir,if it's possible can I share an artwork I did.. it's based on a Jurassic era concept..I am confused wether to call it matte painting or concept art.. accordingly i would choose my career goals.

Great painting! Love seeing process videos to get more insight on your thought process
It's not a painting it's more of a collage.

@@TylerEdlin84 Oh cool, thanks a lot for replying Tyler!
Amazing
Cool stuff. I wish someone were to make a course and hand it out for free, but I"d be delusional to believe anyone would do that. Ty!

I end up altering the photos so much it won’t matter too much. But I prefer just to buy photo packs from photobash.org
@@TylerEdlin84 Thanks for your answer! Definitely a website I will use for commercial work. Thanks again!
Awesome, inspiring!!

Thanks a lot for sharing this progress Tyler, very informative! :)
Does any one know how he rendered the 3d model with a different color fot the different axis? 11:21
GhostTownDesign it’s a render setting most 3d softwares have them. Sometimes they are called normals or clown pass
Thanks man

I would say ANY 3D soft is capable of doing that. It just depends on your preferences ;)
