Mine is missing several details and one of the motors eventually gave out so I converted it into a dummy. It still gets plenty of use on my layout consists.
The rectangular stack on the roof that runs perpendicular to the body, located between the dynamic brake fan and the air filter housing represents a turbocharger. Non-turbo'd EMD's (such as the GP38, GP7, etc) have two smaller exhaust stacks, one on either side of the dynamic brake blister (or in a similar position if no DB is present). That is why this model is a GP39 (actually, GP39-2) rather than a GP38.
Great technical details
Thanks for another enjoyable video!
Nice engine. Might have to add it to my wanted list. 😊
Thanks for watching. I know those older episodes are not as clean as my newer ones.
I really like that locomotive, the chessie system has one of my favorite liverys
I grew up in the Chessie era, and I really miss that scheme. It's so much better than CSX blue.
I am pretty sure a locomotive just like this one is in the show young sheldon

That's making the best use of what you have!
Is there a way to disable the horn if I use a railsounds box car
Yes. There is an on/off switch on the fuel tank.
What turbo charger?

@@ToyTrainTipsAndTricks I agree! It is also missing the FARR paper air filter in front o the dynamic brake!
also i think lionel's GP20 is actually a GP7R
Different railroads had different designations for their modified GP7s and GP9s, but yes, the Lionel "GP20" is merely a GP7 body with a low nose.
How much did you pay for it?
It was a gift. They can be found in online auctions for $125 - $175
