      DON'T DO IT LOL. All other guns will be just so so after you shoot a nice 1911 - 2011. All jokes aside I am old school and love the 1911 - 2011 style guns. When you bring them up they are on point with the target. That's why I greatly dislike Glocks, [to me] they have the worst point to aim gun of any. The front sight seems to be way up and I have to over break my wrist to get it on target. Then again I started out many years ago with 1911 style handguns.

  • @PatriotPaulUSA
    @PatriotPaulUSA ปีที่แล้ว +26

    So good to see the pricepoint coming down, and not being made in China or somewhere of that quality. If Rock Island Armory can build doublestack 1911's for so cheap in the Phillipine's, I knew it could be done. Theirs is a much harder frame to make all 1 piece.

    • @SlavGuns
      @SlavGuns  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      for sure. I think us gun gamers have been preconditioned to have to spend $2k or $3k minimum but in reality, it is another gun and you can certainly make a nice gun at under $1,000. Armscor/RIA actually made quite a few frames and guns for STI, before they were Stacatto. The Trojan and Spartan were actually RIA guns or RIA frames. For a 2011, the two piece frame and grip is actually part of the design and an advantage. they were the first real modular firearm. People can swap out their grips, and if you mess one up, just get a replacement for $50.

    Very strange that when the interviewer asked if the pistol was rated for 9mm Major, the builder was at a loss. Since the only category this pistol qualifies for is open division in USPSA, there might be a problem.
    For competition shooters who do 60,000 rounds a year, all of them at +P+ levels, (the required power floor) it’s kind of surprising that a new supposedly small and nimble manufacturer hasn’t done their homework.
    At the manufacturing level, a little extra material in the right side rail connecting the front locking area to the breech face (thicker, not higher) might do it. Could be balanced by a similar shape on the other side. Or a tougher grade of steel with no changes…
    They obviously don’t have to cater to the competition market, but there’s no question that gaining a reputation for quality in that game would help the business.

    There are a number of companies with decent long term reputations for making entry level double stack 1911s or outright 2011 clones. BUL, Rock Island, Metro Arms, SPS all have double stacks under 1500 and are proven already.
    This company is fairly new and jumping into this market in 9mm, which means they may not be as robust as some of the true 2011s or the better clones that can run 9mm Major or 40 for USPSA Major.
    There's a difference between having a clone and having an actual, well built performance pistol. Springfield found out the hard way and they're just importing stuff.
    Production in the US makes me extremely skeptical about how well built these can actually be at this lower price point.

    The Prodigy holds more rounds than a 1911, and that's great - but OTOH it's Springfield replacing the most difficult to machine part of their $800 1911s with a cheap piece of plastic, and almost doubling the price. Why is it so hard to believe that someone could do it for less?

    • @danielhenderson8316
      @danielhenderson8316 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Parts availability. Larger manufacturers are starting to make parts in large enough quantity that prices are coming down.
      And the 2011 patent has expired to enable more people to do this.

    • @Justice-ian
      @Justice-ian ปีที่แล้ว

      You explained why it's POSSIBLE to do it for less, which wasn't my question.
      I asked why it's HARD TO BELIEVE they could do it for less, because it's obviously not difficult. 2011s cost more because they offer a capacity advantage, but there is nothing in a 2011 that costs more _to make_ than a 1911.

    • @SlavGuns
      @SlavGuns  ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL. 2011... not 1911. Go on any competition sites and just ask. If it wasn't for STI's crappy QC... companies like TTI, Akai, SVI, Brazos, Dawson, Limcat, Freedom Gunworks, Phoenix Trinity, and countless others would not exist. When STI was bought out and rebranded Stacatto, they did make quite a few improvements in terms of QC over the years, however they also focused on the civilian and LEO market, away from competitors. the STI 1911 were actually quite great values, but then again, the Spartan was made by RIA and the Trojan's frame was made by RIA. The biggest issue with STI 2011s was the magazines. They were pure garbage and you needed to replace the guts to make them run right. You would either polish the tubes on the STI mags and then replace the spring, follower and base plates, or get a tuned mag from Dawson.... alternatively you just buy an SVI magazine and what I did.

Imagine if Girsan made a double stack $400 1911 model that was “decent enough” 5 years ago???? Rock island Armory did it first! Although Staccatos are the real OP. Almost perfect. Why cut too many picatinny slots the whole length of the dust cover? No one use the front slots nor the rear slots. Usually the middle slots are used. So why not cut 1 or 2 slots in the middle only? I just don't get it. It's not a rifle where the more slots the better.

      @@SlavGuns The design is good for 40S&W caliber though. All metal gun with long barrel giving it more weight to handle recoil. Plus barrel does not tilt during reciprocation. The 2011 has had a lot of positive points but with a lot of 'if only's attached.
    If only they were so expensive.
    If only there wasn't so much expensive after purchase steps required.
    If only running way over budget wasn't a thing.
    That said I could easily fall down this rabbit hole.
    What materials do they use?
    Will those materials take and hold close tolerances?
    What magazines do they use and how much will they cost post gun purchase?
    Are the sights a standard dovetail?
    Is it a standard trigger or proprietary?
    Does it mimic any other current guns in terms of holster availability?
    Steel or alloy frame?
    Standard grips?
    Is that a standard pic rail?
    Is it order direct or sold through a dealer network?
    Have they sold and shipped any of these yet?
    What's their rating on 9mm +P and +P+?
    Sorry for all the questions, but I'm leary of 'hopium'.
