What do you think of the Grecale? Would you have one over a Porsche Macan?
I was at a recent release and drive event from the MC20 in PA. Drove the Grecale and prefer the Macan in all aspects. Design, handling, comfort etc... I will say the Grecale has a wonderful interior. Truly luxurious in feel minus that the Macan for me drivers better. We have the 22 Macan S which we love. The GTS is that extra bit better

Probably my favorite SUV at the moment. It checks all the boxes. Macan can’t touch it in terms of practicality and space. It’s also unique and different than the standard vehicles in the segment that we all see EVERYWHERE on the roads. It’s almost perfect in my eyes.

The shift speed difference between the PDK and the smaller, lighter, more compact ZF8 torque converter (in Sport/dynamic mode) can be measured in less than 1/10s of a second. The ZF offers lightweight for a couple hundreds of a second more in shift time.
And that's part of the reason the Macan is slower than the Grecale or the Stelvio. It might have better launch control, and slightly faster gear changes, but it weighs more and gets less power out of its TFSI Audi engine.
Maserati has a winner sure to be their best seller! personally, if I bought one I would have it customized by Mansory to make it more aggressive. The interior is really a step up from the Levante and sets new standards for Maserati and the class too beautiful materials used top quality leather etc...

Yes! They put the paddle shifters ON THE COLUMN, rather than making you chase them around while turning.
Very nice review. It’s always hard to have comfort with low profile wheels in any car.

Thanks I thought the MC20 sound was lacking too. I've had 2 GranTurismos which sounded amazing! Yes I know that car is a V8 but I now drive a Jaguar F-Type V6 which sounds fantastic and proof that you can make a V6 sound great .

Rented a Grecale Modena, and was impressed, blown 4-pot a little muted in sound, but great road manners for a 4250lb car and comfortable on long trips also
I’d go for the Trofeo, maybe a 12-18 month old one, I think it would be a great purchase

I am of Italian descent and my name is Giancarlo! I want to LOVE this car. But there is no way in hell I am canceling my 2023 Macan GTS order for this. You are trying to take on the king of the performance SUV castle in the Macan and pricing your entry....HIGHER! C'mon. I know this engine is great. But the craftsmanship won't match Porsche and the PDK will smash this transmission. If this car was priced 10% less than a Macan, I would seriously consider. But no way in hell am I paying $113k for a Trofeo when I have a fully decked out GTS on order for under $100k.
How do u like the design? Not crazy about it...kinda looks like a Ford Puma from the front and those headlights look too small for an SUV
The thing is that german cars get extremely expensive when you start putting optionals in it. I dont know about the craftmanship because the dude in the video didnt really have something to say against it. The PDK transmission is not that much better, the ZF 8 speed is 1/10sec. slower in shifting but lighter and uses the power of the engine better, its not the best transmission on the market out of nowhere. But how do you have a full optional Macan GTS for under 100k? Its not new is it? I tried to configurate a Macan GTS with lots of optionals, i didnt exagerate but it will cost at least 110k.
Actually a model Yperformance will smash this trofeo and annihilate a Macau gts. Plus unless you want to be in a full time relationship with the Arabs and their oil, then good luck with buying blind!
@@vc8160 Just wondering where you come up with this? I am not an EV hater. I own one. But Tesla performance is not on par with Porsche or Maserati. They are fast in a straight line, sure. But how will a Y performance "annihilate" a Macan GTS? they have the same 0-60 time, the Macan has available power throughout all bands, has a much higher top speed, and does not have diminishing performance based on battery depletion. Let's not even begin to talk about the handling as they are on a different planet. Go take a look at the two cars lap time on the Nurburgring then get back to me. You will see what car "annihilates" the other. As mentioned, I like EVs. But don't make outlandish claims as they will turn people off from actually liking an EV and understanding their pros and cons.

Looks rather nice, not too flashy, with the typical Maserati aura. But as always, only time (and sales) will tell. The opposition - Porsche in particular - is ferocious and isn’t twiddling its thumbs !
When have Maseratis ever been "flashy"? They've always been understated for what they are.
@@Lndmk227 It is often stated that Maseratis have a rather theatrical side to them, somewhat baroque in their looks (cabin and the clock in particular). Wonderful engine sound, but the build quality and finish have not always been up to scratch. They have nevertheless greatly improved these recent years. What they have never had (fort the past fifty years) is Ferrari performance and Porsche all round quality.

@@DonViToCRLNE In general, and in particular with Porsche, the general quality of construction - materials, assembly - is superior to that of its competitors. For years, this process at Maserati was far from exemplary. Maybe things have improved since.

Agreed, those thin wide squinty eye like headlights from all current old-gen models are menacing, especially when they have the blackout package. The bubbly wide eyed Porsche look is not for me. Too bug-eyed and doesn’t match the personality you think of with a Maserati and the trident badge style. Slightly clashing in my opinion.

The F154 Nettuno engine sounds way better than the F154 Quadriofoglio version. In my Levante S the F160 sound already better than the Alfa F154. Maserati is just king in making engines sound great. Sadly they didn't do that properly in the MC20.
Just got my Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Test drove both and I like the ride quality of the Stelvio better

Agree - and let's be honest here - the Porsche SUV's are hewn from solid blocks of granite and I've had too many italian cars in the past to know they are not.

The Grecale is based on the Alfa platform which is running pretty good for years now.
@@DonViToCRLNE Yeah its the Giorgio platform - I have now had 4 Porsches over the years - faultless -not one issue - Range Rovers were the worst - I had 4 of those before I finally learned my lesson did you see Matt Watson's video on the solidity of Posche - it was a TH-cam short - spoiler - its solid - I therefore standby my earlier comments
@@nelsonclub7722 ok but Range Rover is not italian. Japanese are solid, not Porsche. Im not saying that a single person is going to have a not working Porsche, im comparing the brands overall and Porsche is not solid in terms of that.

Pretty much an Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio then. Same doors, windows & roof too. I’d have that. It doesnt look good (the Giulia does) but it does look better than this

Macan is the benchmark, so the most obvious comparison.

@@CARmagazineTV Macan is the benchmark in people's minds. It is not in terms of performance, dynamics, practicality ...you named it. Several SUVs easily beat the Macan GTS in several aspects, not only the top range Grecale, but also the top range of Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo.
Like all Porsche SUVs, it's assembled by Porsche with Audi mechanics over VW platforms.
It's a reference because it has a Porsche badge.

They should have made the MC20 sound like this. You're right that Nettuno engine is a far better match with an SUV as opposed to a full carbon tub supercar with the butterfly doors. I am not quite sold on the exterior styling though, it already looks a few years old in terms of design language and I suspect it will not age well over time. Plus that very questionable maserati reliability which will require years to overcome
Well, as for reliability, the Nettuno engine is based on the Ferrari F154 6 cylinder version (that we can find also on the Stelvio and Giulia Quadrifoglio). The entry level engine is also a 300hp or so modified 2.0 from Alfa Romeo...and the car is built over the Alfa Romeo the exceptional well balanced Giorgio platform.
I would bet it's a great car to drive and it should be reliable, since it's built over well tested parts. I guess we can look at the Grecale as a stretched Alfa Romeo Stelvio with improved and more modern interior.
The design is always subjective but I understand your opinion, I might even agree with you. Maserati lines are usually a bit more about elegance than aggressiveness, but I would have preferred a front more similar to the Levante.
I have to say that as a former engineer the nettuno is a pretty solid engine, it's very sporty and incredibly innovative. I actually think that this is the right way to develope cars engine, great for racecars, sportcars and everyday cars. I also had the opportunity to watch the production of grecale trofeo's exhaust at Faurecia in Terni Italy, at the end it's more of an european fact, the cars sounds mushy because of the filter, the same problem for ferrari, porsche and many european cars brand.
@@miks564 the Nettuno is not based on the Ferrari engine, its completely new. Same for the Alfa engine, its just developed from the same engineer that made the Ferrari engine (Gianluca Pivetti) but its not the same engine, theyre made different.
@@DonViToCRLNE I believe it is because I've read it already in two different sources (they can be wrong of course) ...and because there are already some 6 cylinder variations of the Ferrari F154 engine on wikipedia for both Maserati and Alfa-Romeo.

@@miks564 Wikipedia is not a good source. Ferrari never made 6 cylinders and the 296 is the first one using one and even that engine is completely different.
Guys there is a dedicated button on the steering wheel to soften the suspension did you try that?!
That only softens the suspension when not in Comfort mode. The ride was too firm even in Comfort mode.
The only thing I like about this car is that digital clock.

Could it simply be that the “Trofeo” version is more race spec in terms of “the ride” than the base or Modena versions?! As the Trofeo does have 530 HP.

He hurried up and got off of those timid headlights during his review definitely a misstep. I love that clock face trick The style wise is definitely going head to head with Porsche Macan but I wouldnt buy this for $100K . I will wait for my electric Macan

Please note that the Grecale is really big for its segment. Despite being two segments below the Levante, its size difference doesn't reflect it.
Stelvio QV looks so much better and sounds better. I'd rather have the Alfa. This is the first Maserati I don't find attractive. Front clip is ugly

Out of three worst in terms of quality and reliability which one is worse? Maserati, Alpha Romeo or Land Rover Range Rover Sport? Sorry I would take the Macan S just for comfort and $$$ or better yet forget all of them and get the X3 M4.0. You don't need the X3 M Competition....the suspension is too harsh. I'm not saying that the Maserati is not a bad looking vehicle....it's just things like the fake gills on the side are a bit kitsch. The X3 M4.0 interior is also special. Digital dash, heads up display and a large center console display with arguably the best infotainment system in the business....it's actually the beautiful 2 tone sport seats and interior that is....well it's special....and very comfortable....it's eye candy actually.
Well according to stats the Land Rover is the worst. Alfa is not better or worse than the germans and the Grecale too because its the platform of the Alfa. Maybe updating knowledge first.

0:48 wrong, it is not designed to rival the Stelvio, alfa actually did a car on this very same platform, called the Tonale.
The Stelvio has the same size of the Levante.
Alfa is built on the Giorgio platform, same with the Grecale. Tonale and Levante have different platforms

Looks like a great car for the price point but the exterior design isn’t edgy enough for me. The roundy look is too tame, in my opinion. If it was Lambo Urusish in design but at the Maserati price they wouldn’t be able to make enough of them.

The reliabily is the main point that has dogged Maseratii for years. with this new Suv will have to wait and see after 3 or 4 years
You dont have to wait because the platform of the Grecale is the same from Alfa Romeo and theyre running pretty fine.

It´s nice to see a new Maserati but for my taste the car looks not good
I hate when the audio of car reviews are 98% talking.. the editors need to slow down on the stimulants or something because nobody wants to hear constant editorial on a car.. I watch to see and hear the vehicle performing in its’ element. Lots of things the reviewers SAY can be DEMONSTRATED without words. Auto journalists are becoming notorious for ear-battering viewers in every video.
Sorry, but the front styling is completely derivative of Porsche.

The front looks half finished, as if the designers just gave up half way and slapped a huge chunk of Macans design there... It looks hideous! Back is alright, but they could have done a better job there as well. Sorry Maserati, but this time you failed with the design!

In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!!!!!

Not impressed with the camera work both during Ng the interior and exterior. No rear seat shots, no details about the leather, stitching and normal interior talk in every decent car video.
Why are they always harping on about orse power and torque? These figure meand absolutely nothing to the average motorist like me. We understand 0 to 60 and top speed, although we will probably never need to discover them for ourselves. The early Top Gear programs were about Real motoring and Real cars, now its about expensive cars that you can throw around and take sideways. I think motoring correspondence has taken a wrong turn somewhere.
I kinda understand why they had to make the press car yellow... really underwhelming for the price. just another suv on the road, kind of presence
Really not liking that front end at all. It doesn’t look sexy, and is kinda busy and weird.
Maserati take abuse, e.g. for reused Stelantis group parts bin components in the Ghibli, but generally look great, sound great, and are a bit different.
This though,.liking the interior (bodes well for the new Granturismo), but the exterior looks...pretty hideous. Don't see the appeal of this at £50k, let alone >£90k in trofeo trim. Not for me.
I will take the Maserati over the Porsche any day.
