You public employees are not maintaining your roads, the traffic lights are no longer being funded....... These are the simple realities of simply defunding the state. You cannot simply defund one specific piece that is the key to the states authority. So please understand, I'm not arguing about a need for change or defunding of the government machine. I'm suggesting before we start suggesting things be done we first have a very objective and logical understanding of what change, how to change and what will happen. Do you think your family, friends and neighbors will agree with you or do you expect there will be those who disagree completely? Will they be more persuaded by a full explanation and complete plan or by " defund and start over". Because it's not the audience here you need to convince regarding change. b But these are some of the people you will need to agree on what changes and how. That simple statement creates an immediate point of divide. Ok, but there is no redeeming of the divide. No bridging, no building, just a point where we agree or disagree, a divide. Create enough of those and you will fracture the population and the whole thing will collapse into rubble. And that is the change you will get. What comes after is quite obvious and predictable by looking at history. Those who would have you as their subject, property and slave. They are far ahead of you with a plan to rebuild from the rubble. They've already begun the fracturing and the destruction. Are you assisting in your own demise or participating in your own determining your own destiny? As another pointed out, "defund police" has been a protest point and look how that has worked. Any doubt the same powers behind that protest also intended to create fracture and destroy what is? Might want to consider why you would want that without a real complete plan for after. Just some thoughts about putting emotions aside and using the actual thinking mechanism.

Nope. Because aircraft and their pilots are regulated/licensed by the FAA and have to follow the rules. And they are limited as to where and how they can fly. For example, they can't buzz your rooftop. A news helicopter can film your backyard if a suspect is running through it while being chased by police. But they can't fly over it and film just because they're curious and want to see what's going on/. Drone regulations vary by state. It's a new area of law, and we haven't yet, as a society, figured out how to balance privacy rights with First Amendment Rights in the arena of private drone use. If SHARK had flown over private property and recorded in CA, they would have been in clear violation of the law.

Mens rea. They knew they were wrong to a criminal degree. They were unable to quote a single ordinance to incriminate the detainees. These were uniformed officers. They knew enough of the law to know that if they were not operating within the law, they were operating outside of it. If a teen committed an assault in this manner, they would be the first to charge them and try them as an adult claiming they knew right from wrong. Mens rea. They knew they were wrong to a criminal degree. They were unable to quote a single ordinance to incriminate the detainees. These were uniformed officers. They knew enough of the law to know that if they were not operating within the law, they were operating outside of it. If a teen committed an assault in this manner, they would be the first to charge them and try them as an adult claiming they knew right from wrong. Talking points aren’t so handy when we are talking about them.

The problem with all this is all the law enforcement on scene have not even learned their lesson I’m sure. Accountability is laughable until qualified immunity is no longer. Behavior will never change unless punishment fits the crime and criminal, law enforcement included.

Reportedly, these cops involved in this illegal arrest were not only not disciplined in any way but promoted. Their names need to be shared with every defense attorney in that area and then some.
