Whenever you do another entire album, i highly recommend Waiting For Columbus. Its live Little Feat. You have already done Spanish Moon from it, but if thats not the best live rock album, its in the top 2 with Allman Brothers Filmore East. Check it, Tower Of Power plays on almost every song too.
You guys are so kind to enjoy a comment I recently posted on a three year old post. Thank you. From one lover of music to another (both of you) I will share some of the songs I recall from the late 60s to the mid 70s. In the 80s I lived in Austin TX so I had so much local music and singer songwriter artists emerging that I almost missed the entire 1980s of musical artists nationally. Back in the day there was a much broader selection of music that did not adhere as tightly as today as to only one genera being played so Gospel, country, rock, jazz, folk and pop all interplayed on the airwaves. Added to this was my high school which had an amazing jazz program with visiting artists like Count Basie, Buddy Rich, and Maynard Ferguson. To me, music is something you can feel, however it moves you. As Duke Ellington once said, “It don't mean a thing it it ain’t got that swing.” To me that means swing not as a literal genre but as anything that makes you come alive, putting a swing into your steps. And so, without further ado, here are some of the songs I recall that are worth checking out as representing that era, many of which will also point to a larger body of work by the band or artist. Little Feat and Steely Dan as you already mentioned are both classics and should not be missed. “City Of New Orleans” Arlo Guthrie “Come And Get It” Badfinger “Dance Me To The End Of Love” Lenard Cohen “Doctor My Eyes” Jackson Browne “Family Of Man”, “Shambhala” Three Dog Night “For Your Love” Fleetwood Mac “God Bless The Child”, “Lucretia Macevil”, Blood Sweat and Tears “Golden Country”, “Open Up” REO Speedwagon “Green Grass and High Tides” The Outlaws “I Just Want To Celebrate” Rare Earth “I’ld Love To Change The World” Ten Years After “I’ve Seen all Good People” Yes “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” Anne Murray “Love God (And Everyone Else)” Al Green “Mighty Tight Woman” Bonnie Raitt “Moondance” Van Morrison “Only You Know and I know” Dave Mason “Put Your Hand In the Hand” Ocean “Respect” Aretha Franklin “Rock n Roll Fantasy” Bad Company “Shelter From The Storm” Bob Dylan “Spanish Pipedream”, “Same Stone” John Prine “Take Five” Dave Brubeck “The Story In Your Eyes” Moody Blues “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” Delaney & Bonnie There are of course many more. I just wanted to share a taste, in case you wanted to explore further. Post Script: The version of the Captain of her heart you recently reacted to was very good and, it was written and performed much earlier by Lenard Cohen.
Mr Anderson is here, 🕶️ emerging from the funky grooves of the impeccable Little Feat cocoon. Actually Nick over 2 years ago on April 19, 2022 you and Lex greeted me on one of my first ever request with the Agent Smiith 🕶️opening line on a Steely Dan double bonus Gold Teeth Reaction. That video now has 16,675 views and 695 likes 👍. So delighted that you guys reacted to this song hopefully it will be a smash on the channel too. This is the first Little Feat song I ever heard and I heard it at a party playing on a record player and I was like what the hell is that……that’s awesome. Been a dedicated Featster ever since. One of the bands I played in did this song. It was always one of my favorite songs to play a fun bass part. Very lively. Of course, another classic and wonderful reaction. Thank you so much. Looking forward to all the upcoming treats on the channel. Do I take the blue 🔵 pill or the red 🔴pill 💊. At my age I better take them both. Mr. Anderson out.
Lowell George was supposed to have been involved in some of the Little Feat live bootlegs, figuring that if people heard them they should represent the band in the best possible light. I had 3 in the 80's the best being Electrif Lycanthrope which was rumoured to be recorded at a friends wedding. Only saw them once, unfortunately on a night when they had a fight backstage before going on, the tension was palpable. A friend who also saw the night after said they were fantastic the second night.
Seeing Little Feat these days, it's hard not to miss vocalist/slide guitarist Lowell George, who died in 1979. He sang many of their biggest hits (like "Spanish Moon"), but guitarist Paul Barrere sang this one. Pianist Bill Payne also sings songs that he wrote. Lowell was the guy who gave Bonnie Raitt slide guitar tips when she used to contribute backup vocals on their albums. Lowell George was also with the early Mothers of Invention, and it was Mothers' drummer Jimmy Carl Black's remark about Lowell's little feet which is the source of the band's name.
Little Feat was put together by Lowell George who came from Frank Zappa's "Mother of Invention" Band. George went to New Orleans and got with a Cajun band. His voice and the Cajun back up is so unique and so damn funky, it is just great.
They were exceptional!! Went to a "Who' concert back in 70sEngland, but 'Little Feat ' were a support act , they were the reason I drove four hours to the gig, obviously to see this Incredible band!!...
Loved this! Really need to somehow find some time to deep dive this band! I voted for their full album in the newest poll! Hope it can pull out a win!!
Their first album is fire as well as Sailin' Shoes that was my fav but I think the first one is as good or better that Salin' ..They are much more folk based vs the more funkish vibe they made on Dixie Chicken . Check out the first one when you can
Consider how much you enjoyed that song then multiply by 10 when hearing them live. I saw the reconstituted Feat in the mid 80’s after Lowell died 3 or 4 times. I’m a tall guy and I loved to look over the crowd at the bobbing heads. Impossible to keep your feet still and a smile off your face.
My ex was obsessed with Little Feat and I'll never forget his face when he read about Lowell George passing, it was at a bus station and he bought a newspaper and then slumped down on a bench. It was such a shock as he seemed to be doing fine solo. I'd suggest my fav song that showcases his voice so well, Roll um easy. Very pleased the rest of the band are still going strong.
Saw them a half dozen times in the Washington DC area in *the day" from '72 to '78 (including one of the Waiting For Columbus nights at Lisner Auditorium) And they opened up a couple of those nights with this song. DC loved Feat!
As someone else has said in the comments, you really need to check out the live album Waiting for Columbus. It is EPIC!. I currently play in a Dan tribute band, butLittle Feat would be my next project if i could get it together. Ive sung ( and played congas on) Skin it Back more time than i can remember. Magic!
Wonderful choice Scott! Six magnificent musicians, one unique band. I love Little Feat too. Their music feels timeless fifty years on. I'm hoping they win the Patreon Poll this month. P.S. Take care with those pills!
I will always love the second Feat album Sailin‘ Shoes the most. Heard this one and Pretzel Logic by the Dan for weeks one summer. I still miss Lowell George, his voice and slide playing.
Lowell was a gem. Linda Ronstadt's BF for a while. If you can react to her covering his song called Willin' from the 1977 Atlanta concert. She tells a great story about him.
4th album. So what is that song all about? Paul Barrere on vocals I think. Not Lowell. My guess is that the cover has Washington and Marilyn Monroe in a Lincoln. Little Feat are mainly New Orleans funk like the Nevile Brothers, the Meters and Alan Toussaint.
Kenny Gradnry, Sam Clayton and the illustrious Bill Payne remain from the classic lineup. They were a great combination of musicians RIP Lowell, Paul, and Ritchie.
Great song, great band. Not Lowell George on lead vocals, Paul Barre song. One of the best bands ever and massively underrated. Nick's comparisons are interesting because they're his based on what he is hearing.
I have a song request I am a subscriber please don’t ignore me some of the other channels I’m subscribed to have been very rude and totally ignored my request the song is supertramp my kind of lady
When delving into Little Feat, there is one album that can't be missed, that is 'Waiting for Columbus', possibly the greatest live rock album of that decade. They collaborated with the horn section from Tower of Power and I think it may have been the last release that featured the legendary lead singer Lowell George before he died. The musicianship of this band was en parre with Steely Dan and Frank Zappa. Jimmy Page actually got kicked out of hotels for playing Little Feat too loud!! Zeppelin were huge fans of Little Feat. They combined jazz, blues, funk and soul with a Cajun, New Orleans inspired influence. Truly one of the greatest American rock bands..
It will cost some money… if you’re on Patreon, then you stand a better chance of getting your song on… if you listened to them at the beginning they told you how to do it… nothing is free my friend.
@@benjamindesantis723 these two people are anything but rude. But they get tons of requests and look at how many people subscribe here. They won’t be “ignoring” you. They just can’t get to everyone. I really need to deep dive into this band! The little I have heard is so good! Thanks for the request!
Great friggin band. RIP
Lowell George
Lowell’s voice was so warm and smooth.

Its so great to hear Little Feat. They are such an eclectic band with so many influences. One of the great bands from the past forty years. Thank you.

Interesting song from them.

Bill Payne at the Hammond B-3 Organ Shows out on "Hi Roller"...doesn't disappoint .
Little Feat is one of my top 5 bands Scott! I used to love Robert Palmer doing Spanish Moon and Sailing Shoes
Yes that was a great combination of Little Feat and Robert Palmer. Some of my all time favorites. This song was always one of my favorites to play.

Why are Lowell George and Little Feat not in the rock 'n' roll HOF ?
@Mickraut-xe5im: Because of complete stupidity.
It’s bullshit😡
Travesty.
Guitarist Paul Barriere singing on this one 🥳
Richie Hayward on drums
Both are sadly gone RIP
Kenny Gradnry, Sam Clayton and the illustrious Bill Payne remain from the classic lineup. They were a great combination of musicians RIP Lowell, Paul, and Ritchie.
I thought you might of mentioned what they were skinning back!
Funky band.
I know this was a Little Feat review, but why the Al Stewart album in the thumbnail? Just curious.
Little feat, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, Robert Wyatt, Widespread Panic, Allman Bros, Govt Mule, Caravan and Pink Floyd is all you need for a good life.
Great song, great band. Not Lowell George on lead vocals, Paul Barre song. One of the best bands ever and massively underrated. Nick's comparisons are interesting because they're his based on what he is hearing.
