    Certainly one of the best live albums ever. So funky.

    I saw Little Feat way back in the day in the Fox Theater in Atlanta- with guest Bonnie Rait. What a show!

    This classic Little Feat line up along with the Tower of Power horns was something very special indeed.

    That Bill Payne was such an amazing piano player. He was shockingly good! Saw the Band in 1977 a few months after i go tout of the Navy. To me This band and the Allman Brothers were the best American Bands LIVE! Lowell George really liked the Duane and dickey Duo! Also saw Richie Haywood the drummer at clinic in Orlando. A very funny cat. But great player

    The cover art painting is by Neon Park, who did most of the original Little Feat album covers. When Little Feat was promoting this album and I saw them at the University of New Hampshire in 1978, they had a large version of the album cover hanging behind the band. "Dixie Chicken" was most definitely one of the highlights of the concert. Along with a lesser known song by them called "Don't Bogart That Joint", when about twenty of them went flying up on the stage from the audience. LOL.

    This was Side 3 of the Double LP, my favorite side, but they were all great, and "Dixie Chicken" was about to segue into "Tripe Face Boogie", which absolutely rips, and then a stand alone "Rocket In My Pocket", which needs no translation. When I'm driving around with this album playing in my car, there are no problems, ever. I call it the Little Feat advantage. Try it sometime.

    Many a happy hour did I spent with this album until I lost it somewhere between here and there. And then I rediscovered it on TH-cam with a big smile on my face

    Congratulations! You made the right choice. If you want to hear Feat, ALWAYS check to see it is on the Columbus album. It is Feat at their apex. Bill Payne, he keyboards, shines on this song.
    Lowell George died shortly afterwards. Sadly, Forrest George, Lowell George's son passed away last week. We were good FB friends, and I hate to see him go.
    This is a great song, especially with the horns playing Dixieland music just adds emphasis to the theme.

    I enjoyed your reactions to Little Feat live w "Dixie Chicken". Great musicians backed by Tower of Power horns makes for a killer live LP. Bill Payne on piano, and Paul Barrere joining Lowell George's slide guitar. From the same album I highly recommend "Mercenary
    Territory" a guitar driven tune where I have a problem separating the screaming guitar from the blaring sax @ the end. It's epic.

    Ooooh, was so wishing you'd go right into "Tripe Face Boogey!" Richie Haywood had adapted the New Orleans "second line" style of drumming which marked such a change over the studio albums! Since I was introduced to Little Feat through this album I always have preferred this style over the studio albums.

    I first heard Lowell George through his hit: "Cheek To Cheek" a long time ago, and was amazed by his voice. I don't know much a bout Little Feat, all I know is that the name of the band was from a comment made by Jimmy Carl Black (The Indian of the group) about how little Lowell's feet were. so he named his band on that comment and replaced one character. There's a great live version of Dixie Chicken on youtube with Emmilou Harris & Bonnie Raitt as backing singers.

      Steve, if you are referring to The Midnight Special performance of "Dixie Chicken" with Bonnie and Emmy Lou, unfortunately you can't hear them singing at all. I think the sound guys forgot to turn on their microphones. Doh!!!

    In case anyone's interested, here's a film of the full concert the night after this was recorded. Much less keyboard in the performance of Dixie Chicken this night, and the sound on the recording is not as good as on the album.. but it's still great! th-cam.com/video/sD2QZXxwVTA/w-d-xo.html

    The cover painting is by Neon Park, who also did the amazing Zappa album cover Weasels Rip My Flesh. These guys have a huge fan base. They always reminded me of a cross between The Dead and The Band. I certainly don't hate it, but I also don't listen to this kind of music much.

    • @SightAfterDark
      @SightAfterDark  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The character in the Weasels cover art is wearing a grin as opposed to a smile; ☺️there is definitely a bit of a creepy element there too, we can see how both covers are illustrated by the same person. Thanks Chaz!
