This album and the visuals of the tour made me a super fan. I was obviously aware of her singles, but I thankfully bought this album on 2010 and it blew me away.
Aphrodite is quite simply pop perfection, once a decade she gives us a defining album; Fever, Aphrodite, Disco, etc - and in between she gives experimental and alternative pop projects, as an artist she is so interesting as she’s never afraid to go less commercial or extremely commercial, never chasing trends but imposing them.
I have many memories attached to this album and era. I graduated college in 2010, and the world never felt bigger. This album always takes me back to that time
I'm so happy you made a video about Aphrodite! It's my favourite pop album of all time. I do think Aphorite or Can't beat the feeling should've been a single. I also think Mighty Rivers should've been part of the main album and not just a bonus track.
Personally, Kylie transformed from Pop Princess to the Goddess of Pop due to Aphrodite. I feel countless love from this album, and I absolutely love it to this day!! 💙🤍💙🤍
In my opinion Aphrodite is Kylie’s most cohesive album to date. I remember preordering the version that came with the dvd that featured the making of the All The Lovers music video and the sit down interview with Kylie and Stuart Price. It was the first era that i was onboard from the beginning to the end and been a solidified lifetime fan ever since. The summer of 2010 was a special time in my life. I had started to accept that i was gay when both Kylie and Xtina released two very gay albums so i felt very empowered through their new music to own my gayness.
Fantastic album. My favorite tour of hers hands down. Unless I'm blind I do believe you missed my favorite track thou "closer" . The harpsichord melody gives me chills. It sounds hypnotically romantic but also haunting and ethereal at the same time. Plus Kylie's breathy vocals complement it really well. Thanks for the awesome video!
It's scary to think this album is already more than a decade old. It seems like it wasn't that long ago! This may be my favorite Kylie album so far. I was fortunate enough to see the show in Europe and San Francisco (thank you, Kylie, for throwing undeserving US fans a bone). I did Medusa drag for the San Francisco show (it felt right for some reason) and even though I forgot my tucking panties in Seattle, it was an incredible experience and so much fun. Even without all the "bells & whistles" the rest of the world got, it was incredible and celebratory. She may not get the number of people in America that she does in Europe, but our small numbers work hard to show her we love her!
I remember Aprodite Era like it was yesterday. All the lovers was so anticipated Kylie released a snippet of the song and everyone went crazy for it even crashing her website!
Yeah just listened to them now - they're both Xenomania tracks. Maybe that had something to do with it? They didn't want such a big producer at the time, like Redone on the record.

So I want to say the song Get Out Of My Way is the first song by Kylie Minogue I heard at 14 years old and it's so stylish with energy too. Thought she was going to be a new artist competing with Gaga, Katy and Rihanna. In a way she was, but not totally. That song was the only thing I heard from her in 2010(?) then years later I looked up the song on Spotify and found her discography and I was surprised 😯 From there I've been a listener. 🎧😚🎶

Brilliant album. I played it non stop over the summer of 2010 which had brilliant weather, back to back with Kelis' Flesh Tone. Sonically cohesive unlike X. Put Your Hands Up If You Feel Love is my favourite. Sadly, this was the point where Kylie became an "older" legacy artist to the record label, radio stations, and younger music listeners so it never mattered how good the material was. Kylie was never going to get the high chart positions and radio airplay she was typically used to.
@Jonny Harvey yet Padam Padam has got to number 26 in the UK Top 40. Should have been higher, but it does say that older artists can still connect outside of their fanbases with newer material.
Stuart Price really has the Midas' touch. Confessions on a Dance Floor is being considered Madonna's last great album to this day like in Kylie's case every effort after Aphrodite feels lacking ambition and substance

🌈KYLIE'S🌟 🕊️APHR🥰DITE🕊️ album & awesome 2011 tour was the last time she was truly iconic 💕🌈🦄🌟💕 It was a gr8 return to form after the mess that was the ❌ album & the underperforming Body💋Language era. That said, some songs can come across a little paint by numbers but Kylie & her team knew @ the time they needed a hit 💯📀💯 In 2010 I was VERY excited about the release of Aphrodite & the lead single 🕊️ALL THE LO💗ERS🕊️ with the accompaning music video didn't disappoint 🎶📺🎶 💥Get Outta My Way💥 was a brilliant follow up, but I wish the singles released from there on looked like this: 📀 Aphrodite 📀 Too Much 📀 Can't Beat The Feeling Thanks once again Jonny 4️⃣ an excellent essay about our favourite ✨Impossible👸Princess✨ And I look forward to hearing what you think about: 💓Padam🌟Padam💓
Hi Jonny, besides Kylie there is another singer that I love who was very famous in the 2000s, she is Anastacia, I was wondering if you can also include her on your channel please? She has a great voice!! very cool presence and I love that she wears glasses! Despite her talent and voice, she is so underrated and she is American! I think there's a lot to dig into her discography, thanks Jonny!
Yes I'd like to do a video on Anastasia- she was really being in the first half of the 2000s in Europe. She sold a lot of albums. I will do a video on her at some point
As always, with Kylie's team, they want back into the safety zone with this album. Stick to pure dance pop and be what people expect you to be. Happily, though, it still spawned a very fun, full pop, and surprisingly varied in sound album. The tour was one of her best too. So well conceived. Shame a lot of the vocal production, especially on album tracks, were mastered quite poorly and [possibly] rushed. They're shrill in places. I have never thought All The Lovers is the transcendent pop event that some fans believe it to be. It's great, but I also have to be in the mood for it. It's elevated in a live setting, though, for sure. Better Than Today was a bizarre choice for a single, let alone the album, but its still enjoyable. I always find, though, that even with Kylie songs we don't enjoy or aren't that good, tend to become enjoyable over time, regardless. Maybe it's down to Kylie herself and her personality being in them that allows that to happen eventually. Re RedOne - it's quite evident they didn't use him, because they were worried about the public thinking she was chasing a sound. A spade's a spade. It's OK to admit it too ;)
So weird the differences in taste Better Than Today is definitively in my top 5 Kylie songs. An unexpected nod to 70s dance music that she'd expand upon later on the Disco album.
I think it's a great song but it doesn't have that BAM quality. The chorus sounds very similar to the verses. Too Much was much more commercial and of the time.
@@jonnyharvey there's that big tempo change between voice and chorus though! Also I thought 'Too Much' was on Impossible Princess but that song is actually titled 'Too Far'.
If Get out of my way was released around Fever time, it would have been a huge it..the video was great...I think it was also around Aphrodite time, that Radio 1 stopped playing kylie. Great insight.
@@davidblack6829 that's true - I don't know why. I've done three Mariah videos now & none of them took off. I'll try another at some point. I will always love Mimi 😀
This album was my Summer of 2010. So many good tracks were on here, but Closer was really my fav... Nobody really gave that track props but it was sexy, elegant and could have made a great extended mix for the clubs...
It's coherent from visuals to songs but All The Lovers was such a great song that everything else on the album sort of paled in it's shadow,if I had to say Too Much,Get Outta My Way,Closer and the Pete Hammond remix of Put your hands up are the only ones I still listen to now. Thanks for the background info,I had no idea she worked with RedOne who was everywhere for a bit then nothing from him for years, his best work was with GaGa and Nicole Scherzinger
....I still love the "Nu Disco" vibe of 'X', but "Aphrodite was fun, fun *FUN!* ..I'm sure Kylie fans will know some of of this, but I hope Sir Jonny will allow me to indulge.... (cont.) - ..."Aphrodite" was a HUGE Dance success; FIVE #1 (USA) Dance singles (including the re-issue bonus track "Higher", with Taio Cruz), a successful Tour, and remixes GALORE, putting popular remixers like WAWA, Bimbo Jones, Nervo & the return of Pete Hammond, back on the map... - ...although Kylie was having label woes, her popularity was TENFOLD, with the campaign to release "Put Your Hands Up" helping the tune become a #1 Dance club success, and giving Taio Cruz some popularity.... - ....Kylie said once that the tunes had a "sameness" to them, because of Stuart Price's clean Production....but it's become her most SEAMLESS Album, which makes the tunes more cohesive...that what REMIXES are for! ...ha-HAA!! ....I have close to FIVE re-issues, because I Love it SO much....
@@Paradeboy I love the Kiss Me Once album. I haven't found any solid info on it yet or got to the bottom of what happened with Roc Nation. I would like to do the video on KMO- might take a while.
The complete disregard of Closer, the most iconic performance from the Les Foiles Tour, just seemed wrong to me. It's such a timeless song and has that Kylie blueprint to it. Also, Heartstrings and Mighty Rivers were just too good to be bonus tracks only.
@@jonnyharvey that book you talk about is good but has some mistakes in it. Wikipedia is not perfect too but with writing credits it is correct most of the time.
Even though All The Lovers was an instant classic anthem and Kylie was very clever to record it in the last minute and chose it to be the leading single at deadline, Aphrodite is the album that I have to skip half of its tracks to enjoy. Kylie stated that the the album production started without a concept. Songs were being recorded randomly, like the process in most of her albums, but lately she could feel there was a familiar soundscape there. And before lose control of it, avoiding the same misteps of X, that's why Stuart Price was hired as an executive producer to pick the best ones that would make sense in a whole to a linear concept. What bothers me about it is the dubstep flavor added to some of the tracks only to have its spot in the trend (the same that happened with contemporary R&B in Body Language), some dull lyrics, and also the overuse of falsetto and how her vocals are high pitched more than the usual in most of the tracks, kind of struggling to conquer younger people's attention in a time that she was over 40's. I still don't feel her control there, considering she co-written only 3 of 12 track and the commercial decisions over it, very different from the albums that followed where she definitely embraced maturity and control. I don't like the tour either, expensive and over the top. Fortunately Kiss Me Once and Golden made her realize again that the "less is more" idea fits better always.
Love love love this album! I think it really started off with some great momentum and seemed properly thought through from bringing Stuart on board, to the artwork/theme and the launch in Ibiza. All The Lovers felt enormous and I could have sworn it was a No.1 (it feels like it was). But the era seemed to run out of steam very quickly which was a real shame. I think a lot of her time and energy shifted to the tour. I never understood BTT being released (or being on the album) it just didn't fit in. Can't Beat The Feeling and/or Cupid Boy would have been great single choices. Silence should have also found its way onto the album properly.
i like the album but many tracks just feel like they are there and dont do anything for me when the bsides and bonus tracks are better than whats on the album you know somethings wrong. the fact they put "better than today" as a single over too much, cupid boy or cant beat the feeling is criminal.
Just my opinion... But I always thought the lyric of "Get Outta My Way" was a bit cold-hearted for Kylie. A bit of a juxtaposition against Kylie's joyful character 🤔 (Edit) Awesome album though. And the tour was phenomenal 🙌
@@jonnyharvey Oh yes, she did nail all the vocals, and the production is sublime. But I can't align the Kylie we know and love to the words "...leave you, move on to a perfect stranger..." etc 😁 Ah well, just a tiny blip in Kylie's awesome catalogue

great album for her it is the soul mate of light years and fever this album put her back in formation as x like impossible princess were detour albums
Aphrodite is one of my favourite Kylie albums it's incredible!
It is really solid
her best album in my opinion! great concept, great songs, great tracklist, greatest tour, great visuals, great singles just overall such a good era but i agree with some saying that it was short lived and she focused on the tour more but it was worth it 😩 nonetheless it was such a great time be a kylie fan. such a shame ageism got to her around that period
Yes I think she would’ve like to release more singles but overall what an incredible era 🙌🙌🙌
@@jonnyharvey can't beat the feeling could've been the PERFECT third and final single after get outta my way UGHHH
Total classic.
It's my fave Kylie album after Golden..
It's definitely her girliest album. Which 8s prob why it's my fave.
If not for Golden. Thats my fave album of all time.
Kylie my Queen. GODDESS SUPREME 💃🏼👸🏼
it seems to be a real fan favourite.
Didn't care much for the album at first but have grown to like it. It wasn't as edgy as past albums but it has like her best track 'Get Outta My Way'
a lot of people love that song
Honestly only know the answer to the third initial question of the intro (“Higher”). Seconds in and looking forward to learning the answers to the other questions
Good!!! Not much point doing the video if everyone knows all the information already
LOVE LOVE this album 🤩😍 thanks for sharing this video 💟
😀😀
i love your channel. Hope you gain more subscribers ❤️
Thank you - let’s hope so 😀😀
You've done it again. Great clip about a fantastic album - so interesting and informative! You really are very good at this. I'll look forward to the next clip!
Thanks Adam 😀😀🙏🙏
🌈KYLIE'S🌟
🕊️APHR🥰DITE🕊️
album & awesome 2011 tour was the last time she was truly iconic
💕🌈🦄🌟💕
It was a gr8 return to form after the mess that was the ❌ album
& the underperforming
Body💋Language era.
That said, some songs can come across a little paint by numbers but Kylie & her team knew @ the time they needed a hit 💯📀💯
In 2010 I was VERY excited about the release of Aphrodite & the lead single 🕊️ALL THE LO💗ERS🕊️
with the accompaning music video didn't disappoint 🎶📺🎶
💥Get Outta My Way💥
was a brilliant follow up, but I wish the singles released from there on looked like this:
📀 Aphrodite
📀 Too Much
📀 Can't Beat The Feeling
Thanks once again Jonny 4️⃣ an excellent essay about our favourite
✨Impossible👸Princess✨
And I look forward to hearing what you think about:
💓Padam🌟Padam💓
Thank you 😀😀Might do a video on the new album, I’ll see what happens
Hi Jonny, besides Kylie there is another singer that I love who was very famous in the 2000s, she is Anastacia, I was wondering if you can also include her on your channel please? She has a great voice!! very cool presence and I love that she wears glasses! Despite her talent and voice, she is so underrated and she is American! I think there's a lot to dig into her discography, thanks Jonny!
Yes I'd like to do a video on Anastasia- she was really being in the first half of the 2000s in Europe. She sold a lot of albums. I will do a video on her at some point
@@jonnyharvey thanks!! ❤
It's OK to admit it too ;)
Oh thanks for those insights - the tour was brilliant, wasn’t it? Is your name inspired by Bjork?
@@jonnyharvey It is!! 💜
Parlaphone really dropped the ball with the single releases 😢
I agree with you - they got the third choice really wrong.
love your videos. Thanks!
😀😀😀
You always eat up Kylie videos we hungry for more
😀
All the lover's her best music video ever 👍🏻🎧🎵
It is a great video - I think they spent a lot of money on it
I love Aphrodite .
Not groundbreaking, but Aphrodite still feels like Introduction to Kylie 101
Yes, it's what introduced me to her in the first place at age 14 lol.
Great insight.
yes I agree with this. it's such an ageist industry - it's very hard to overcome
Love all your Kylie vids 🙌 would love some more Mariah content from you 👀
I love Mimi but my Mariah videos didn't do too well so that was discouraging.
@Jonny Harvey potentially people have no taste 🤣 well whenever you get round to it I'll be all over it 👍
@@davidblack6829 that's true - I don't know why. I've done three Mariah videos now & none of them took off. I'll try another at some point. I will always love Mimi 😀
I loved X
😀
This album was my Summer of 2010. So many good tracks were on here, but Closer was really my fav... Nobody really gave that track props but it was sexy, elegant and could have made a great extended mix for the clubs...
I love your Kylie videos, are you hyped for Tensión?
So excited - getting up early on Thursday morning for the first play 😀😀🙌🙌
Her magnum opus!
it is a really strong album
It's coherent from visuals to songs but All The Lovers was such a great song that everything else on the album sort of paled in it's shadow,if I had to say Too Much,Get Outta My Way,Closer and the Pete Hammond remix of Put your hands up are the only ones I still listen to now.
Thanks for the background info,I had no idea she worked with RedOne who was everywhere for a bit then nothing from him for years, his best work was with GaGa and Nicole Scherzinger
Yes it was very hard to follow All the Lovers - it was so brilliant
....I still love the "Nu Disco" vibe of 'X', but "Aphrodite was fun, fun *FUN!* ..I'm sure Kylie fans will know some of of this, but I hope Sir Jonny will allow me to indulge.... (cont.)
- ..."Aphrodite" was a HUGE Dance success; FIVE #1 (USA) Dance singles (including the re-issue bonus track "Higher", with Taio Cruz), a successful Tour, and remixes GALORE, putting popular remixers like WAWA, Bimbo Jones, Nervo & the return of Pete Hammond, back on the map...
Thanks for that info 😀😀
A Great Album, one of the grestest for me ❤
Agreed - a solid effort
Aphrodite, Christina's Bionic (which was ahead of its time), and Robyn's Body Talk made the Summer of 2010 a magical time.
So agreed bro , I was definitely blasting Aphrodite and Bionic albums in 2010/2011👌💯
I forgot that Bionic was released within a few weeks of Aphrodite.
Wanna see kiss me once now!! Brilliant coverage as always!! 😀
Thank you 😀😀🙏🙏
@@jonnyharvey anytime u are more than welcome will kiss me once have a episode i adore miss minogue 😀
@@Paradeboy I love the Kiss Me Once album. I haven't found any solid info on it yet or got to the bottom of what happened with Roc Nation. I would like to do the video on KMO- might take a while.
@@jonnyharvey oohh nice but excited for what happens overall 😀
Aphrodite is a great dance album. ❤
Will you review the album's of the 2nd and final princess of Australia dance pop star dannii minogue?
I don’t know - I don’t know much about Dannii. Sorry
The complete disregard of Closer, the most iconic performance from the Les Foiles Tour, just seemed wrong to me. It's such a timeless song and has that Kylie blueprint to it. Also, Heartstrings and Mighty Rivers were just too good to be bonus tracks only.
Do you mean my disregard for it? I couldn’t find any new info on it that’s why I didn’t mention it
I love!❤
Aphrodite is a great album.
Agreed 😀
2023 UPDATE: Kylie finally returned to the UK charts peaking at #8 with Padam Padam... Thank Goodness!
Kylie also co-wrote Too much :)
I stand corrected. I took that line out of a book on Kylie about the two co-writes. I need better sources
@@jonnyharvey that book you talk about is good but has some mistakes in it. Wikipedia is not perfect too but with writing credits it is correct most of the time.
Cupid boy should have been single #2
I do like the verses
I will not stand for any Aphrodite slander because it was the Al in that made me a fan of Kylie.
There’s no slander in the video- I love Kylie. I just have to make the title a little provocative
Fierce, migthy, golden girl, Aphrodite
Her Best album. Every song fits perfectly
😀😀
I think you like Kylie. ❤
😂😂😂
Fortunately Kiss Me Once and Golden made her realize again that the "less is more" idea fits better always.
interesting, but each to their own
Love love love this album!
Yeah that's a good way of putting it 'ran out of steam'. I don't know this Silence song - I will have to google.
I’m in the minority here. It sounds like a collection of car alarms.
woah - that's harsh. But everyone's entitled to their own opinion. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing
i like the album but many tracks just feel like they are there and dont do anything for me when the bsides and bonus tracks are better than whats on the album you know somethings wrong. the fact they put "better than today" as a single over too much, cupid boy or cant beat the feeling is criminal.
I like BTT but I wouldn't have chosen it as a single.
Just my opinion... But I always thought the lyric of "Get Outta My Way" was a bit cold-hearted for Kylie. A bit of a juxtaposition against Kylie's joyful character 🤔
(Edit) Awesome album though. And the tour was phenomenal 🙌
Yes I agree with that - it seemed a bit too much attitude for Kylie. But nonetheless I still think she pulled it off
@@jonnyharvey Oh yes, she did nail all the vocals, and the production is sublime. But I can't align the Kylie we know and love to the words "...leave you, move on to a perfect stranger..." etc 😁 Ah well, just a tiny blip in Kylie's awesome catalogue
@@raywright8226 Honestly that is the first song I ever heard by her and I thought she was a NEW diva ready to deliver dance jams like Gaga and Rihanna too. So I was into that first impression! Funny finding out her history of bubblegum music and other songs about romance. Get Outta My Way is my intro to Kylie, it's fresh with ATTITUDE 😁
It started well but went downhill fast, very quickly.
Looking for an angel should have been the 2nd single.
Interesting- I will have to listen to it again. I never thought it was strong.
