An interesting film, but I think you are falling into a trap in calling these organisations Think Tanks (TTs). Proper TTs (such as the Rowntree Foundation and the IFS) may have “a point of view” but do robust, evidence-driven work, usually with independent oversight (advisory groups of relevant stakeholders) and openness about funding. The Tufton Street lot are really just political mouthpieces, pushing specific ideologies, masquerading as TTs. They pick names that make them sound like TTs, so people assume their work is robust & evidence based (a line your off-camera contact seemed to be pushing, with their comment that they are “data enthusiasts, just following the data” ), when they simply pushing a shadowy agenda.

That's why we've been working with cross-party MPs to complain to the Charity Commission about the Institute of Economic Affairs and the Global Warming Policy Foundation- urging them to investigate what we believe are clear breaches of charity law. The FF industry has plenty of form in this area having funded a myriad of disinformation campaigns since the middle of the 20th century. Climate change is real, and it's worse than we're being told 😮 ! Instead of beginning in the 19th century as the current models are focusing on, it's been happening throughout the history of the planet ! It has caused countless civilizations to collapse, famines and many conflicts, and the worst news is " There's nothing we can do to stop it " . The arrogance of ignorance isn't confined to the political class regarding climate change, the scientific community has been usurped and employed to ferment the ignorance 😮 ! By being completely factual, but factually incomplete, they select data to support the idea, that's it's the fault of humanity, and worse still that humanity has the cure 😮 ! This hubris is beyond belief, we are but a tiny factor in a complex and ever evolving system, not the masters of the universe our egos would have us believe.
We are, however a tolerant and adaptable species, which means we can adapt to the constantly changing climate, just as our ancestors did, which is why we are still here, allowing the least amongst us to try and convince us that we must comply and rely on them, but never ourselves !
The Carbon Footprint is the impression left by the boot stamping on the face of humanity...forever, described in Orwell's 1984.
Buying into the carbon is the problem mythology will enable them to herd us in to a totalitarian hellscape, all in the guise of " Saving the Planet "
Wake up ! The same people pushing this are also behind the wars we've had and are having, over who controls the oil ! Not because they want to stop using it, but because they need it, it will be austerity for us, but super yachts and private planes for them !

This was a really important documentary, presented in a balanced way. The thing that worries me if the lack of reach that this kind of information gets - very few people have even heard of Tufton Street, and those who have probably assume that it's just a think tank and don't understand the way in which that undisclosed donors/dark money gives this organisation a more insidious role in our politics, much the way that the Koch brothers do in the US. Thank you, Good Law Project, for all the great work you do.

They are going to develop their gas, oil, and mineral reserves aided by BRICS, much to Macron's chagrin. What do you think these wars are for, it's not access to solar power they're fighting for, they want control of the oil, and resources, it's what has lifted the common people in the West out of poverty, allowed the establishment to experiment with democracy, and end feudalism. Take away the energy, and there is no power, power being energy employed to perform a task. The climate crisis is a PR trope engineered to stear the population to accepting austerity, and further down the line poverty, enforced through electronic feudalism !

@@samuelmelton8353you should try reading the IPCC technical reports not the political BS. The IPCC technical report clearly states that global warming reduces incidents like typhoons and hurricanes because the temperature gradient between the equator and the poles is reduced.
If you look at historical records for floods, droughts, wildfires and sea level rise there is no observable difference over 200 years.
If you took the time to research historical climate change you’d see that for the majority of the last 12 000 years the temperature was more than 1 degrees C warmer than present even though CO2 was about half of current levels. NOAA data set, it’s free to google.
There are plenty of published papers predicting we will be back in a mini ice age by 2050 as we’ve been in a solar maximum for the last few decades and now we’re heading into a solar minimum.

Recalling my time as a self identified Green, it was a pleasant identity to have. Other Greens were generally pleasant, nice people, and inoffensive.
We had this common belief that we really cared, felt a responsibility and were prepared to make sacrifices for a greater good. But therein lay the danger.
We didn't regard ourselves as sanctimonious, but behind the facade of our niceness lurked a sanctimonious hubris, in that we regarded people other than ourselves as ignorant and in need of saving.
It began with a love of nature, not a bad thing to have, a dislike of pollution, desolation, and contamination. But contaminated we were, we took the CO2 global warming, climate crisis narrative, hook, line and sinker, with little question, or examination ! Yes the people selling the idea buried us in data, but we didn't choose to examine, or challenge them, we were the chosen, who were out to save the planet.
How many have rewatched Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth ? The first time I watched it I took it as truth, it spurred me on, confirming my belief and reinforcing my self image. Well it didn't stand the test of time, much like Greta's tweets, it's an embarrassment, the crisis failed to emerge.
CVD ! Thank you CVD for opening my eyes. You revealed yourself for what you are, ambitious totalitarian, authoritarian, Malthusians, who hate humanity ! There they all were, the philanthro capitalists who sold me “ Oil will make us boil “ pushing by every means bar physically holding me down, to put an experimental gene therapy into my body, into all our bodies ! You let the mask drop, and as a consequence, I rigorously examined everything you had ever told me and found it wanting !
There is always more than one way to approach a problem, so why not employ all of them ? The problem in your eyes is us, the useless eaters, so how do you reduce our numbers ? Well if you can get them to hate themselves, which a generation or more clearly does ! Get them to identify as a blight on the planet ? And then they might just volunteer, go quietly ? Slowly poisoned by novel “foods”, novel pharmaceuticals, particles sprayed into the air, starving as the politicians who claim to represent them attack the food supply, through austerity because the oil that fuels our prosperity is reduced and removed, or better still casualties to avoidable wars.
Well you misunderstood this former Green ! Yes I love nature, and I love the planet, but I love humanity too. And as for you Malthusians ? You are the problem seeking a solution, and people are starting to realise, so you’d better finish building your bunker soon !

So well said!!! These narratives (and the lack of any meaningful action) had always given me a weird feeling about the "greens" even though I was in support of their fundamental motives (namely protect nature).
It is really strange to me how all these people are very eager to blame their fellow citizens but never the system that has shaped them and the whole of society into what we are today.
In my view the "green/left" politics are nothing more than a new form of "church" where they cry victim yet are only seeking money and power, because they know that if they actually "solve" those problems then they will not be able to benefit from them. As some say it is green/red capitalism with the necessary victimhood and despotism that is required.

Congratulations on escaping the self-congratulatory, virtue-signaling “green” mob, your post was refreshing to read and gives me hope that others may escape too.
I first started looking into climate change because I was offended by right-wing blowhards calling it a hoax. (I’m right-leaning myself.)
To my surprise, the deeper I dug into the arguments and looked at the actual data, the more unscientific gatekeeping, rent-seeking, tribalism and outright manipulation of the data I found.
I discovered that if you look at the full history of climate data, you’ll discover that almost all of the “warming” in the temperature data is the result of post facto manipulation that adjusts older data downwards from the original recorded values. Also, if you look at climate stations with proper siting that haven’t had building, parking lots and air conditioner units grow up around them, you’ll see almost no warming signal.
Finally, if you look at the predictions of the climate models over time you’ll find a complete lack of skill at accurately projecting future temperatures when their output is compared with actual temperature data.
Starting from a point of extreme skepticism of claims against global warming, I was inevitably led to the conclusion that they were actually correct.
What’s baffling to me is the extent to which so many people and groups have been so completely taken in by the abysmal “science” that’s been done. It’s causing a tragic misallocation of resources, with devastating consequences for the poorest members of society and developing nations.

This is quite easy to understand, and experiments clearly show plant growth increase with increasing CO2. They must know this fact. Can the temperature rise be halted while not quickly reducing CO2? Whatvworries me is that some of the people interveiwed on the street, think uts terrfying because theyve been told so, and frankly to bloody stupid to do some research, i had someone bellowing at me that the sooner we get rid of co2 the better, once i educated them that would leave no lufe on earth, and why they were shocked, i asked them so what gave yoy the idea of no co2, well erm isnt that what it means i fluffing despair, ask anyone one of them what is the percentage of co2 on earth and how much is due to humans!!! The look of blankness is scary

I expect your 'research' is just other climate change deniers echoing what you believe.
The fact that human activity is now changing our climate on a global scale is now beyond doubt. Anyone who says otherwise either doesn't understand the data. Or they're getting their info from sources with questionable motivations. Meaning other climate change deniers often backed by the fossil fuel industry.
The fact that only a fraction of our atmosphere is CO2 is neither here nor there. We can accurately track what it's been doing since before the industrial revolution and it has increased dramatically. It's beyond doubt. If you disagree with that statement. You're basically saying you know better than dozens of climate scientists, who have been researching this for decades now. And therefore your opinion is both worthless and pointless!

If the man on the street thinks that it's a serious problem and that we need to take action, they've understood the most important part of a very complex subject, even if they're confused about the details.
In case anyone doesn't know, the answer is 280 parts per million before the industrial revolution, and about 421 now, so a third is due to humans.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide_in_Earth%27s_atmosphere

Totally agree. From my perspective, the key to all this is to tackle one aspect of climate change at a time. In terms of CO2, start looking at world levels from the last 500,000 years. Then create a simple graph, so everyone can understand.

Knowing where the money comes from is important but what you do with that information is even more important.
For example when a politician has written into the book of parlementary interests that he is paid cash by a fossil fuel company, it doesn't mean everyone knows that is written down. So politicians can go on TV and say loads of things without the general public realising that the politician has already been paid for.
I would suggest an add-in into web browses or something for a smart TV, when a politician is taking about a subject then whatever their personal financial interest in that subject will be displayed on the screen.
It should be easy enough for a computer to know the identity of a politician being displayed on a web browser, and a computer should be able to figure out what the topic of conversation is, so it can't be that difficult to display on the screen the personal financial bias of the politician for any computer with the browser add-in installed.
It would be better to have this information displayed on normal TV, and if normal TV channels can be embaressed by a browser add-in doing a better job than the TV station, that might change.

There are very many scientists and others which would disagree and they have nothing to do with tufton st or any other lobbyists. You could argue that you look very similar to the lobbyists that you decry. You havent set out your case for your initial stance. I don't think you understand how global energy markets operate. And why, even though the UK doesn't import much energy from Russia, our prices increased. It's the same reason why increasing licenses and output from the Scottish gas and oil fields won't drive our prices down.

Blowing up the gas pipeline and economic sanctions massively helped increase the gas prices. It was the biggest environmental crime of the century when the media were blaming Russia for it.

The least expensive energy available to the grid is paid the same amount as the most expensive energy required to fulfil our energy needs at any given time.
As such, if 90% of our power is £1/kWh but the remaining 10%, to cover our actual usage, is £100/kWh, then all suppliers are paid £100/kWh (these numbers aren't real, they're just to illustrate the point).

To be carbon sutras by 2030 will mean there will be no fossil fuel used in creating power. If that is wind and solar, there will need to be full battery backup. This is not possible due to material shortages, also due to cost @ £30 trillion. Then there is gas fired power. as backup when the unreliable are not operating. So there would need to be two systems available each to cover the whole country. We need nuclear in addition to renewables but as fossil fuels are cancelled the power supply needs to be massively increased as 80% of our energy needs to be replaced. That is massive. 100 Gigawatts will need to be 400 Gigawatts.

As a thought experiment, watch " an inconvenient truth " then follow up by watching " The Great Global warming Swindle " . I was a Green Party member, friends of the Earth, and Greenpeace. I'd been following, and believing since the seventies. I guess it was CVD and the push toward authoritarianism, that rattled me ? It was coming from the demographic I identified with. Well locked down I had time on my hands to start digging, and as I did I started to realise, I'd been played, we all have, that what's taking place is a totalitarians wett dream, and the fear porn is driving it. Yes climate change is real, but the human contribution is being exaggerated as a PR device for social engineering. I'm no longer at the mercy of the perception managers. There is no desire to Stop Oil, they are still fighting their wars to control who has access to it. But it will be the common people who are to go without, while the Davos crowd continue on in privilege as usual !
They aren't about to go to war to defend the Solar Dollar are they ? It's all about the Oil, who controls it, and who gets to share in the benefits, that we all rely on.
If there was a real desire to switch from oil, they'd have constructed the best public transport system you could imagine, and changed the infrastructure to be less wasteful, also stopped advertising the mass consumerism of mindless tat, taught generations mindfulness so they're no longer driven to fill the hole in their psyche with distractions, started regeneration of soil through mixed farming, and many, many more sustainable projects, but no " where's the money coming from ? " How about the money for war ? The war machine doesn't have a carbon Footprint "apparently" which is why it's never included in any of the modelling.
You think the Earth will boil if we don't stop Oil ? Well the politicians paying lip service to that perspective are going after every last drop 🥺, and we the common people will pay for it with our blood ! Drop for Drop 😢

    • @samuelmelton8353
      @samuelmelton8353 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Being opposed to fifteen minute cities is against civil liberties. England used to be a nice place with local shops and proper communities - now you can't do anything without a car. This isn't about the environment, this is about our culture being degraded. It's not limiting you to a fifteen minute zone, it's about making sure everything you need can be done within a fifteen minute walk of where you live - guaranteeing services, schools, green space, shops, all without the need to own a vehicle. If you live in an area where you are dependent on a car it means you are locked in to paying increasingly extortionate fees and have to travel around under license with a photographic ID card linked to an national database and pay out for mandatory insurance - this is not liberty, no matter how much GB news likes to politicise this.
Most people who support fifteen minute cities aren't opposing driving per se, but not rolling over when developers design housing that leaves people *needing* a car to do the basic things of life, when they don't have to. Not to mention, the more motorists are favoured, the more rail, bus, cylcing, and walking are underfunded and sidelined. If there aren't good bus networks or good walking routes or suitable cycling options, then it only entrenches car use further.
It's about giving people balance and choice, none of which happens if we prioritise one mode excessively.

I have come to a conclusion that climate change is at this stage far from the existential threat it is portrayed as. We as humans still do not know all the drivers of global climate and have a lot of research to do without denying any research done but rather put it through the accepted norms of scientific exploration and critique. It is good that you expose some of the hidden agendas being denied left, right and center. There are probably a lot more and politicians to me as a rule are very manipulative and highly manipulated which makes them totally untrust worthy.

Yes, it's a loophole to get around the rules about lobbyists, so companies can exert influence and control, anyone who looks into these orgs for 5 minutes can find this out.
But the vast majority of people are so politically ignorant that they don't look or don't care, and the media is complicit as it needs a steady stream of experts for 24 hr news culture.
Politicians are complicit, 'cos they haven't got a f'kin clue what to do and need to be spoon fed policy and keep the revolving business door open.
