Connor Kmiec remember there being a rock on that step up, and my buddy somehow broke it in half! Like the rock was over a foot thick! It was SOOOOOO much harder with out it. But I cleared it with a hard tail.
Riding this really did a number on my back and hands, I recommend full suspension instead of hardtail. One member of our riding group scorpioned and had to get an evac, but the rest of us continued after the evac came. When I was finished, I had never felt so happy. Truly an awesome trail!
With the extra music that crash sequence was so dramatic I felt like I was watching a Martin Scorsese film! Ha, looks like you guys had quite an epic adventure.
Woah... Porcupine in the rain?! How do you ride with those massive balls? That last ledge is a beast. Hard and fast with a massive lift does the trick.
You guys just frickin amaze me with your obvious skill on a MB as well as your NERVE, in handling a trial like this. With my vertigo, I couldn't WALK/get within 10 feet of some of the exposed areas--and you guys are on two wheels at 10-15 mph. So fun to watch. Thanks guys.
I was in Moab 2 years ago, before I really got into mountain biking, and we hiked part of porcupine rim, as well as staying right by the trailhead to Slickrock Trail. I am now so mad I missed that opportunity, but am in Durango this year and am hoping to make it back for another try!
Im very fortunate and proud to say I've lived here and ripped most all the extreme trails Moab has to offer, on a hardtail. Now I live in Vermont and consider getting a full suspension.. Thank you guys for this epic video!
Just rode it last week. Dry as a bone. Can't imagine riding it in the wet. Thanks for showing how to navigate "successfully" the last step up. Nice work on ride and film editing. GoPro does make it look more dramatic, but still a clencher ride.
You put a ton of effort into these videos both physically and editing wise. Nice work man, really love watching them and then riding after! Keep killing it!
Love it. I rode this trail back in 93 with my wife and a couple friends. Glad to see it hasn't lost it's charm. Looking forward to returning some day soon.
Brah... those views made my guts flip.. and my heart melt.. I love the mountain views but the trails so close to the edge, I would have named that trail "stairway to heaven"!!!!! Love your content Seth always worth watching!!! Thanks!
hey Seth, I'm a fellow mountain biker and I find your content very interesting and find myself spending much time watching the videos. I only ride local due to the fact I'm on my high school's mountain bike team but I really like the trails I ride on which are really no problem for me because I have years of dirt biking experience under my belt and use those skills to help in certain situations
Have been bike riding for 40 years, but you guys take it to a whole incredable level and I love it. Keep up the great video's and riding and thanks for sharing.
That last boulder ate me. We parked at slickrock and rode to the top, I was a little tired. Doing that final section wet would be a challenge in and of itself. Nice walk down memory lane. Thank you.
On that trail I'd keep my pressure a tad higher than normal because of all the rocks. As for suspension I kept it really firm on the technical parts and wide open on the long descents. There are a few punchy climbs that come up quick too, and I think it's better to just ride them with your suspension open than to risk forgetting to flip the switch again at the top!
Great vid! Brought back a lot of memories. I did the loop from the campground along the CO river in '94 on a hardtail, it was epic! Looking forward to returning. It will be way more fun on a bike from this century!
Absolutely the best ride I have ever been on! - didn't clean all tech areas but I was smiling ear to ear. The double wide tech Jeep trail was pretty rad, you got to create your own line.
Just bought my first mountain bike and channels like yours have been a huge help. I live in Utah and love the terrain we have. If you make your way back I'd love to come see you in action.
I think I know what happened. The wheel caught because you had basically no speed. This happens easily on a longboard; when you're cruising along or going down a hill small rocks just get pushed aside by your wheels, but on the first push or if you're barely moving a very small rock or crack can stop the board. You had a bit too much weight on the bars I think, that made it catch worse. You probably could've saved it if you pulled up the front wheel to lift it over, but understandably you didn't expect that to happen so you couldn't really react.
disk brakes use a caliper which squeezes a disk to slow down the bike. non disk brakes (v, cantilever) instead squeeze the sidewalls of the rim to slow down the bike
Justin lawer not necessarily, rim brakes can have great stopping power, especially because they are essentially 26 inch disks (or whatever the wheelsize is). they are pretty common in trials, and obviously very common on road bikes.
Just hitting your front brake doesnt make you fly off the handlebars, I think he got caught on that rock and had such low speed that it stopped him in his tracks, making him go otb because of the incline. Dont be scared to use your front brake.
I absolutely love this trail! My favorite in Moab. It's also even better when you do the Whole Enchilada from the bottom of La Sal mountains, it's like a 6 hour downhill ending with Porcupine Rim. Absolutely gorgeous views changing completely from start to finish!
Devin Kirsch aim that was not enough to send him otb he might have just gotten a little to much forward and over the middlepoint of the bike so to much weight over the bars
Did this on first mtb bike a while back; Diamondback overdrive! Was able to ride a surprising amount and is one of the trails that has kept me at it, although am now rockin' a sworks stumpy. Keep an out for beavers along the river bike path, we watched one for the better part of an hour on our dog walk.
Porcupine rim is the most amazing trail ever. I have ridden this out to the bottom and climbed it back up to the top in one day. Earned my burrito and beer that day.
Another excellent video Seth. Love the collaboration with BK-XC and The Singletrack Sampler. Moab should use all three of your channel's videos to market itself as they are all excellent. That last feature looked like a challenge. Glad to see they kept it real and haven't dumbed it down. Many thanks and keep the videos coming!
myself and a few homies rode from that drop a couple weeks ago great weather but the rain from days before made the top too muddy to ride. Strava gave us 28.5 miles back to chilli pepper shop from there. I watched nate hill and his crew clean the step up at 8:20 after the bottle neck, so we stopped to attempt it a few times....its a tough one, never made her up. sick video tho dude!
Just got back from that trail. Totally had no idea what I was doing went up the wrong way. Took no chances. Didn’t get that far, but well past where you took that header. Only one other rider on the trail coming down that I got out of the way for. Tomorrow is going to be easier. Thanks so much for posting how it should be done.
That looks like so much fun! I ride bmx and also like mtb but I don’t have a mountain bike. I rode my dads bike for a while but he won’t let me ride it after I bent a rim.

I remember stopping at a bike shop on my way to Moab with my mountian bike (I traveled to Salt Lake City from Southern California) and asked if someone would take me on Porcupine Rim trail and “Bob” took me up on my request. We rode this the very next day and it was incredible. I was in awe the whole ride.
Duuuuude this is like the most epic trail I have EVER seen. I wanna go there sooo hard! Awesome stuff and probs for clearing the last hard feature at the 3rd attempt! Cheers from Austria
As a new rider it might be a matter of endurance. You also need a pretty robust bike as everyone usually encounters a technical problem or two during this ride. Certain areas you may just need to walk as well, but there's no shame in that.
My advice: Don't be afraid to walk! I got overconfident back in August on LPS on a drop and wound up with some cracked ribs. Just take your time, this trail is no joke.
I do that track every time I head over to the USA to visit my brother. A really great track. Did most of the Whole Enchilada last time - I was a bit worried about the altitude coming from sea level but had no issues so will do the whole lot next time. Just live Moab, such a great variety of trails.
This is an epic trail and you are correct, the last two miles are like the last stage of a video game. Perfect analogy. The feature at 8:15 is legit and it took me more tries than you to even come close and there was a group that was hanging there trying over and over. We are heading there in a week to hopefully do the Whole Enchilada, as this is the only time per year you can do it.
I just started mountain biking myself but I never thought you would need knee pads on a bike. I was wrong. My second time out I took a rock straight to the knee cap,the rib and my head. It's been about a month and my knee still isn't right.
***** lol then theres being shinned by sharp ass pedals, yeah it hurts like fuck, been riding my whole life and never had that happen yet though lol smashed my knee bmx'ing that hurt
I just turned 14 and was at Moab for the first time last week and i ended up cleaning the last obstacle in my 4th try. I live in Edmonton with no real mtb around here but I go to Hinton and jasper to ride. I loved Moab and exited to go back!
I rode this trail a week ago for the first time and it was a blast! I watched this video beforehand for a reference of what was to come. It was fun to see features on the trail that I remembered from your video. If only I could have been so lucky to walk away uninjured like you did. I went OTB early on UPS (I think it was the drop at 0:45 actually) and had to ride the rest of a the trail with a huge bruise on my leg from running my thigh into my brake lever.
I dominated the last step-up feature. The key is to walk your bike, easy.

Seth's Bike Hacks Any suggestions on tire pressure ? Soft suss ? I have some ideas, and will have a chance to be that way late next Aug.

Justin lawer not necessarily, rim brakes can have great stopping power, especially because they are essentially 26 inch disks (or whatever the wheelsize is). they are pretty common in trials, and obviously very common on road bikes.

Awesome ride in Utah! I'm a new rider. Seth would you say it's to much for me?
As a new rider it might be a matter of endurance. You also need a pretty robust bike as everyone usually encounters a technical problem or two during this ride. Certain areas you may just need to walk as well, but there's no shame in that.
This is spot on. Most of Porc is no worries, the rest is easily walkable, but it hammers you all day long.
Thanks guys!

My advice: Don't be afraid to walk! I got overconfident back in August on LPS on a drop and wound up with some cracked ribs. Just take your time, this trail is no joke.
7:30 it looks like you accidentally squeezed the front brake
god damn it.... I have a bike, I have all the gear I need, but I don't have any good trails where I live :'(
sad me
Save up and hit the road!
Andres Gaggero know that feel :'(
Go out and explore. You might be surprised.
Seth's Bike Hacks I'm amout to get my driving licence soon, so hell yeaaa
Same
I do that track every time I head over to the USA to visit my brother. A really great track. Did most of the Whole Enchilada last time - I was a bit worried about the altitude coming from sea level but had no issues so will do the whole lot next time. Just live Moab, such a great variety of trails.
This is an awesome trail. Me and some buddies of mine do it every year. Its really an adventure of sort...

"gotta stop for the views"
isnt everything you do "for the views"... ;)
This video gave me anxiety
This is an epic trail and you are correct, the last two miles are like the last stage of a video game. Perfect analogy. The feature at 8:15 is legit and it took me more tries than you to even come close and there was a group that was hanging there trying over and over. We are heading there in a week to hopefully do the Whole Enchilada, as this is the only time per year you can do it.
I recently just got back from Moab after 7 days. The most amazing place I think I've been!
Why don't you wear knee pads Seth?
That's what I was going to say. This trail is definitely knee pad worthy.
Eric Taylor and he wears flats. Those pins can rip your knees onto butchery. I wear my knee pads more for that reason.
i dont wear kneepads on my outback trails, just down the mountian.
I just started mountain biking myself but I never thought you would need knee pads on a bike. I was wrong. My second time out I took a rock straight to the knee cap,the rib and my head. It's been about a month and my knee still isn't right.
***** lol then theres being shinned by sharp ass pedals, yeah it hurts like fuck, been riding my whole life and never had that happen yet though lol smashed my knee bmx'ing that hurt
is it just me or does Seth sounds like Lui Calibre
no wonder they call it mountain biking :')
