My dad wanted us to watch this as kids...we lost him years later. This music reminds me of him and always makes me cry. Last Christmas my siblings were sitting around visiting with each other, i played this and it stopped them all and we sat there together sharing something only us could understand ❤
It is strange how the animation triggers such a deep level of emotional relation. I watched this animation only once when I was in grade schooland am now 36 but every time I hear it I feel like I have a deep subconscious connection to it. It's beautiful ominous tone reminds me that life isn't timeless and I get depressed thinking about how my childhood has inevitably passed as will the rest of my life. Nostalgia
I've been watching this every year at Christmas since it came out. I'm now 40 and share your sentiments exactly. Can't watch it without crying but it's not because of the ending, rather it's the death of my own innocence of childhood.
My late wife and I would watch this every Xmas eve as part of our Xmas viewing. (We'd watch this then The Muppets Christmas Carol). She passed away just under 4 and a half years ago. It's now Xmas eve again. Guess what I'm just about to watch?
My grandma showed this to me when I was very young. This reminds me of the times when I was young and happy. The good times. Before grandma got cancer. Before she lost her memory. Before my family was split apart. Before all of it. I try to not think about the good times because it makes me sad.
There is tragedy in that good times are finite. When we don't look because of that tragedy, we take the impact further. It's okay to feel sad, best to honour your memories.
I had 2 misscariages and wanted to give up then my late dad told me not to and told me the next one would be mine. He was right my son was born 2 months before my dad passed away. The most bittersweet year ever 2023. Miss you every day dad😢 I remember us always watching this together. I get so emotional listening to this. I will watch this with Jaxon and picture you with us ❤
bro i can't even remember the movie. All i remember is the snowman's face (very slightly) and this song (perfectly). The song, holy hell it's stuck with me for more than 10 years while not hearing it anywhere during the 10 years...
I always found the Snowman so tragic because it hides very carefully that it is about childhood and how it melts away with little trace in almost no time. Innocent, rapid, bleak, & cold. Be even more weary of adulthood. 😔
I believe the reason we're all here is for many motives... We could be going thru a difficult time and need to a moment to reflect on things... We could be reminiscing about our childhood and experiencing nostalgia... We perhaps just need a moment of relaxation and release... Whatever the case is we feel that powerful emotion that can bring tears to our eyes... Every time I listen to the song or play it on the piano its difficult to not get emotional. It is then I realize how far away childhood is... Thank u for the music 🎵🎼🎶 such an awesome melody!
The snowman had to melt like all humans are bound to die. That s why this song is intrinsically sad. It reminds us of death as an inevitable end to life.
Now I understand why this song sounded so sad when I heard it for the first time , maybe it was many decades ago. I am sixty -one years old and came to age to know true meaning of death. Thank you for input, really..
The end is closer than we would like to believe. However, It is the mortality and finite part of life, that makes it worth living and gives it great value. we each only get one life; to live it well is good, but to use it to help others live well is better.
I remember that winter, because it had brought the heaviest snows that I had ever seen. Snow had fallen steadily all night long and in the morning, I awoke in a room filled with light and silence. The whole world seemed to be held in a dream-like stillness. It was a magical day and it was on that day, I made The Snowman. ☃️
I think its because you realise the innocence and sentimentality of being a child dies with that snowman and you only see that as an adult after the world has scorned you off all your dreams and beliefs.
Im 34 weeks pregnant and my due date is Christmas Eve. 🎄I’ve been playing this song for the baby in my belly at least once a day since a few weeks after I got pregnant. It’s such a beautiful piece, and I am exited to play it to my baby girl after she is born, and see if she remembers it and if it will calm her or not. ( studies showed that babies can remember melodies played during their time in the womb, and it can be calming and soothing for them. ) I felt that this piece in particular was perfect to play for her everyday, both because it’s such a beautiful melody, and that she will be born around Christmas ❤️
D'aww, that's so nice, thank you. I sincerely hope everything goes smoothly for you this Christmas and I wish you, your family and your new baby girl good health and good fortune for the new year to come :)

Childhood has been the most magic part of my life but ended as fast as this story, I am feeling immensely grateful though as it was a very happy period that i remember dearly.

A fabulous tune. My teacher for the final two years of primary school would often play this tune on the piano. It may seem like a very random memory to recall, but it is something I still remember, even now thirty years later.
Love the snowman movie and it brings me to tears I feel it’s about the loss of a friend even if he’s made of snow so when the snowman melted it was like his death and we were left grieving for him along with the boy even the music is very emotional so in a way it teaches us about death.
Nicely done. As sad as the ending is, I think the meaning is that nothing lasts forever...a hard lesson for a child, but a life lesson: an introduction to loss. I saw a comment with someone suggesting the film was based in Brighton. Can’t find the comment but the poster was correct - the pier is there and when Father Christmas gives him the gift at the party, the tag says ‘James - Brighton’. It is definitely a British classic and definitely based in Brighton.
I was stress crying about my assignments due tonight and for some reason, I kept playing the melody from The Snowman in my head and I looked up the piano version and this was perfect. It calmed me down for sure, and it's one of my favorite childhood movies. Thank you
I used to play a little piano at the age when I loved to watch The Snowman, even if it'd get my heart broken every single time. Hearing you has connected me with the joy I would feel trying to decipher the keys to songs I loved.. and you re-sparked that long-lost love! After almost 30 years of not getting near a piano, I just downloaded a basic app, and I'm enjoying so much trying to play this. But also, I want to say that I agree with you... the ending of The Snowman is wrong. The metaphorical Snowman melts in our lives because we let it melt, because that's what society around us teaches - that magic is just a creation of our imaginations. But magic does exist, in the form of synchronicities, miracles, messages from Nature and our own very scientifically-unexplained intuitions. If we find a way to be as open and as innocent as we were as children, Life has the most amazing ways of building back the Snowman of our lives.. And life becomes as exciting and alive as when we where little ones
I miss being a child because that was when we still had our innocence. We tend to become more narrow minded as we grow bc society has created that. It's sad isn't it. I believe that if we do what's in our power to keep that magic alive we would be happier than we could imagine... ❤

I remember they played this music on the plane while traveling from Honolulu with my husband and my two daughters to see family in the Far East. This was in Dec of 1996. It always brings back good Christmas memories.
This captured my heart several years ago when I first came across this beautiful piece, as a memory of my first ever Christmas in the USA in 1999, a year of my immigration to America. It captures the spirit of America how I knew it then - clean distinctive culture, good people, simple life. My heart breaks seeing America that I love is being destroyed now.
Currently snowing outside my house and I just knew what to play. Bear the end of the song, tears were starting to fill my eyes because it brought back childhood memories.
This heart warming animation is a total delight,....the magical flying sequence is the highlight, ...and the music, and the song adds sou! and warmth to this classic festive favorite.
When I saw this beautiful animation film I got light tears as clear as crystal, not to mention the piano piece which makes me float in silence just like the Snowman.
Every christmas morning i would be watching this with my family. It would always make me cry. It was a beautiful, magical yet sad film. I still cry when i hear this song or watch the film.
This was one of the first pieces I learned to play on the piano when I was around 10. I'm 34 now and still this haunts me. Amazing piece of music. They dont do cartoons, story's or accompaniments like this anymore
I can relate to that. I'm 34 too and learned it on the piano. I hope to record it and upload it to my TH-cam channel. It really is a masterpiece. And yes not many stories like it exists nowadays sadly...
Wow, I'm reading some of these comments, beautiful as I sit here teary eyed❤ I love this one too! God bless you all on this Christmas day! Xoxox take great care all❤
This song is truly a master piece far beyond any other composition. It carrys all of the emotions you could possibly feel, for me it was mainly a sad kind of hope. It truly does hold a legendary beauty, that I have never known of any other sound to posses. Tbh it's so perfect that it's creepy
This music was stuck my brain for almost 20 years now I ever time I hear it just makes me think of this movie how magical and brilliant it is also made me feel so many emotions when I heard it for the first time.
Absolutely gorgeous arrangement, and equal performance. And even providing the sheet directly - sitting here with broken ankle and learning it, you made my Christmas man!
This is the best piano version of Walking in the Air in existence. It’s the most haunting, emotive and heartbreaking melody and you’ve arranged it so gorgeously to touch the soul so personally.
The memory that song brouth back... I watched that film as a young girl with my lil brother and i was only around 6 and i sang him that song so he fell asleep...
In every Christmas Eve from Yle TV2 channel :) Btw the snow came here in Finland pretty early and it seems to not melt off before spring. Total winter here, perfect! And assuming from your name puhut suomea.

We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly
We're holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you
Far across the world
The villages go by like dreams
The rivers and the hills
The forests and the streams
Children gaze open mouthed taken by surprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes
We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy mountains floating by
Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Rising up a mighty monster from its sleep
We're walking in the air
We're dancing in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly

This heart warming animation is a total delight,....the magical flying sequence is the highlight, ...and the music, and the song adds sou! and warmth to this classic festive favorite.
Amazing song! My 8 years old daughter starts playing this song.. but only half of it !! Beautiful song! Wish I can play it xx
I watched this dozens and dozens of times with my children while they were young. Mesmerizing and magical.
Reminds me of my childhood.. Not everyone had a magical experience.. Just dreams really
Lovely, Dave...... I am thinking of singing this song!
There is something so very captivating and magical about this lovely song and the film. ❤️
I've playing it on piano for 2 weeks, and I thought I was pretty good. Brilliant pianist.
Cheers mate :) I'm actually really proud of this one, it came out way better than I thought it would.

Absolutely gorgeous arrangement, and equal performance. And even providing the sheet directly - sitting here with broken ankle and learning it, you made my Christmas man!
I really love this music. So much nostalgia in topics such as this.
This is the best piano version of Walking in the Air in existence. It’s the most haunting, emotive and heartbreaking melody and you’ve arranged it so gorgeously to touch the soul so personally.
