I agree. He was a particularly caring and giving individual. He may have struggled with some personal demons, but I know his heart was fully in this song, because it made him feel so good to help others. All of George Michael's friends & family spoke of how charitable he was throughout his life.
I see those faces, I mourn the one who have passed, I am thankful for those who still make music today and I realise I am proud to be a teen of the Eighties. I just wish I could turn back time and re-live it all, without being so eager to grow up. Merry Christmas, everyone.
I was a teen in the eighties as well. The music makes me feel nostalgic. Some songs a little melancholy. I hated being in my own skin then. I would only want to go back to thst time if I could take the present me, what I know now, what I have learned, and the confidence and courage that I now recognize but didn't then.

I feel as if Paul Young, George Michael, Simon LeBon, Boy George, & Bono put a lot of ❤️ into the song. Looking back they were just scratching the surface in their careers. Amazing backgrounds vocals along with Phill Collins owning the 🥁 drums. I feel no guilt playing this over & over in December 🎄. Sting has an amazing voice but yet so shy in this song. Jon Moss played a huge roll with his looks. From when George Michael sang to Simon LeBon sings the voice blends in very well. Glad they caught all this on film 🎞. Merry Christmas 🎄 2018. Is it any wonder why this song is immortal? Look at the decade of the '80's, and the collaboration of artists from Great Britain during that era...A fair number of them at the peaks of their careers, with record sales, MTV video play consistently...39 years later, and this song still gets dusted off for the holiday season, and deservedly so...Thankful to see this video brand new in 1984, and enjoying it still at the end of 2023... Modern timeless classic...Thanks Band-Aid for your contribution that made a huge impact.
This song makes me so emotional now more than ever ... we are still not conscious how much the world needs to heal ... I hope we can all do it soon .. that’s all I want for Christmas 🙏🎄
This is one of those Christmas songs that every year when it comes on the radio, I am truly in the Christmas season. Even in 2020. I remember where I was when I first heard it and knew instantly it would become something special. It's a beautiful heart-felt recording chock-a-block full of the biggest UK music artists of the time. It's also an interesting historical slice of Brit-Pop capturing the peak moment of the 80s British Invasion mid-wave. Through the lens of pop music history, some artists in the video were already on the downturn and would never again experience their previous musical successes. Even then, times were changing. The song's leads, Paul Young, Simon LeBon of Duran Duran,, Boy George and even the mad producers of this creation Bob Geldof and Midge Ure had had their best musical days behind them. Meantime, Bono and George Michael to name a couple would go onto fame and success that they couldn't possibly have imagined in those innocent times of December 1984. I remember quite vividly that it was a thrown-together, all-night recording to get something out to the world in time for the Christmas season and push the cause for charity. People who followed music back then were anticipating something ... and the result exceeded all expectations. It was an outright smash hit to put it mildly and the buzz reverberated world-wide. The all-star line-up had nailed it, despite it being a very rushed gig. It's instant success spawned US and Canadian copy-cats ... but those feeble, forgettable creations never touched the magic of the Band-Aid line-up and artistry. The success of "Do They Know It's Christmas" ultimately led to the global phenomenon of Live Aid in July of 1985 -- truly the Woodstock of '80s. But this is where it all began. The broadcasting power of MTV and other outlets catapulted the song into musical history. All in all, a spectacular execution of what music, celebrity and superior recording talent could accomplish in the name of good deeds during the wonderful decade of 80s music. To me, it's it's not just a Christmas song -- as great as it is -- it's also a slice of the times, my naive youth and also served as the template for future benefit performances.
Yeah I can also remember what I was doing when I hear this first, I was wiping my arse on a bit off wallpaper I had just torn off as we could afford any but I remember worrying about all those poor little black kids and all theses do good morons earning money for them
Boy George’s voice and Phil Collins drum intro for me made the song. My sister bought this album when it came out we literally wore it out. I was a metal head but I could not deny the plight.

[Paul Young]
It's Christmas time
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time
We let in light and we banish shade
[Boy George]
And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
At Christmas time
[George Michael]
But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
At Christmas time it's hard
[Simon LeBon (Duran Duran)]
But when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
[Sting]
Where the only water flowing
Is the bitter sting of tears
[Bono & Sting]
And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the clanging chimes of doom
[Bono]
Well tonight thank God it's them
Instead of you
[Boy George & Others]
And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life(Oooh)
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?
[Marilyn & Glenn Gregory]
Here's to you
[Paul Young]
Raise a glass for everyone
[Marilyn & Glenn Gregory]
Here's to them
[Paul Young, Marilyn & Glenn Gregory]
Underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?
[Chorus: All]
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmas time again

Let them know it's Christmas time again

Nothing will ever capture the magic of Christmas like this song does. Nothing ever gets me more in the spirit of Christmas than this song. God I wish I was alive when this came out.
Music was so much better in the 80's I wish I could go back.
It's lovely, I love it. It's quite sad though what's happened to a lot of the artists involved in this - really sad. I was only 6 when this came out.
Drugs and alcohol have soooooo much to answer for...... so so hard. God bless everyone xxxxxxx
It was really magic to be a young adult when this first came out. So many legends making music together.

Still remember being in high school in Western Canada and hearing that this song was about be released.... and then it happened... and one of my classmates got a vinyl copy a week later... magical.
The Brits sure knew how to put together an awesome Christmas song.
There's so many versions of this song. But nothing beats the original.

George Michael particularly looked so genuinely happy throughout the entire video. I miss him.
Damn I can’t wait for Christmas it needs to make up for this shitty year.
My school used to play it every Christmas assembly.
You wrote too much I couldn't even read all that
Yeah I can also remember what I was doing when I hear this first, I was wiping my arse on a bit off wallpaper I had just torn off as we could afford any but I remember worrying about all those poor little black kids and all theses do good morons earning money for them
