I admit I am picturing 6'10" MLB HOF pitcher Randy Johnson throwing a football sidearmed every time I hear the QB Randy Johnson mentioned.
As a long suffering Falcons fan, I thought this was going to be about Jeff George.
I just saw the #10 and I immediately thought "why is this about Steve Bartkowski?"
I was betting on the dude that drowned and tortured dogs....
@@pulltnah he's too well known for this channel. That's low hanging fruit for anyone as well.
I wish he got a longer prison sentence but coming back, being on the "dream team" and being that bad is somewhat of a punishment.
I'm just glad he didn't win a SB. Vick is such a pos. I usually like to give second chances but some crimes I just can't look past.
@@tigerwoods373 Yeah I know the feeling Mike Tomlin made a dumb decision by bring Vick to the Steelers because they are friends.

The helmets represented the 1966 NFL standings..with the Giants dead last in the East when they allowed 501 points including 72 in one game.
The first team is to ever allow 500 points in nfl history. It would later be surpassed by the 81 colts, who, to this day, have still allowed more points than anyone else in league history, by far
Almost half those points came in a 5-game stretch where they allowed an *average* of 50 points per game, including their infamous 72-41 loss to Washington.
Dennis Claridge wasn't mentioned at all in Secret Base's Falcons documentary, so I'm looking forward to seeing how ridiculous this dude is.
He became a dentist and died at 76 of bladder cancer.
I'm not surprised he never played again in the league. Someone was punching above his weight class in this trade. If you hadn't said quarterback in the title, i would have thought it was about Antonio Brown or some other crazy receiver.
Dennis Claridge is wearing #10, the number which was later worn by future Pro Bowler Steve Bartkowski (1975-85).
True.
The order of the helmets in your display case is in relation to the conference standings during the 1966 season. The obvious reason it is 1966 is because there is not a Saints (1967) helmet. BTW, very nice display along with the adjoining jerseys. I’ve been watching the NFL since 1970 when I was introduced to it by one of my dad’s coworkers when I was a kid.
I did my best to learn about the history of the game since there was an outstanding list of players, (too many to mention individually) who played in the previous 50 years before I became a fan. Your videos are not only informative but it’s great to look at all the older game footage.
You do a great job man. I watch all your videos.
Dr. Claridge donated his orthodontic skills on missionary trips to help children in Central America. The state of Nebraska was privileged to have him as a player, dentist, and person.
If Claridge had opted to go play in NOLA, he’d have been with another DDS, Gary Cuozzo. Both were dentistry students. With the amount of study time and dedication needed to become a dentist - it’s a wonder they had time left over to lead a pro football team in the NFL. Trying to do too much - gotta make a decision.
2 things: I do understand not wanting to go to New Orleans, but anywhere else...
The order of those helmets... good job representing the 1966 standings.
It took me a second, but I realized the helmet order was the 1966 standings. I was thinking of the Falcons specifically since the helmets are always relevant to the video topic, but then I broadened my thought range and got the answer.
Edit: Oh...other people said it already. I'm 14 hours late to the party so I should have expected that.
I'm not sure why Claridge requested a trade to begin with if he wasn't gonna act right. He wasn't worth the trouble. I know the Falcons weren't any great shakes as a franchise in those days and they didn't use him as much as they should've, but they bent over backward to find acceptable trading partners and Claridge wasn't very considerate to them in that case.
I have been a Falcons fan since Day 1, and I had NO IDEA about any of this. I saw a #10 dude in an NFL film and looked him up and checked his stats - OK this is a guy who the Packers dumped into the expansion draft and he just didn't cut it. Fine. I had no idea he was any good. The Falcons were rapidly improving in 1970 and he would have had an excellent shot to start for them.
Bill Simmons said Tracy McGrady spent all season demanding a trade (from Houston as I recall). Then when the trade deadline approached McGrady suddenly said he needed microfracture knee surgery, which killed any potential trade.
He fumbled the bag by passing up on the Vikings. If Bud Grant could coach the Vikings to the playoffs with Gary Cuozzo after Joe Kapp left, he surely would've did it with Claridge. But he revealed himself to be a locker room cancer and talked his way out of the NFL.
Players reject trades all the time these days but mostly in the NBA and mostly much better players than this guy
So crazy he went on to become an orthodontist. He obviously made the right career decision.
I have one word to describe Dennis Claridge: Picky. That’s Exactly what he was, imo.
Falcons of the 60s: 12 wins, 43 losses, and 1 tie. Half of those wins, btw, came in 1969
Great video. I was wondering why he shows up in some statistics, but I never hear anyone talk about it.
Underpants Gnomes for the win!
This is off subject but I've got a potential broadcast contreversy. This Saturday ABC will air live a Spanish league game at 3pm but our affiliate WVEC has an NFL preseason game between the New York Jets and the Carolina Panthers that will start at 4. From what I can gather come to TV guide it looks as though the soccer game will get yanked off for the NFL game. Whichever wins there will be some mad viewers here.
First,I now have a new least favorite Falcons QB. Second, as my dad said about Randy Johnson, it’s hard to complete a pass from the horizontal position. Finally, despite how bad this guy is, as a Falcon’s fan I don’t blame him one bit for not wanting to play for the Aints.
great to see #29 again
After seeing the title of the video I thought that title of craziest player for the Falcons must be difficult to find.
This guy seems to be something of an “odd duck”. His coaches misread him as badly as possible.
I wonder if his last name had anything to do with the old Claridge Casino back in the day
Wish i could do trivia
sounds like the Brandon Aiyuk situation
The Falcons have a very odd history
All the teams have an odd history.
@@jeff3149 but the falcons have a very odd one
That's atlanta for you
Interesting
Interesting. He had a successful career after football. I wonder what percentage of athletes had a successful career after football in that era? Players were not paid well.
Dentist and Orthodontist in Lincoln. Spoke to my church's father-son banquet when I was a kid. We idolized him. He was a solid guy, and legendary Husker QB. Started Devaney's rise to two nattys, followed by 3 more with Osborne.
