The former Dome had potential to live out it's useful life, with quantity being made for prosperity. Yeah, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium is great and truly out the ordinary, but that could have waited for another 10 years for consideration of being built. It's like renovating an old house 5 years prior, only to tear it down to build a new one. You just wasted your or taxpayers' money and time for all that effort.
You can compare it to Seinfeld or the Beatles in that Arthur Blank and the GWCCA saw the end before everyone else did. I agree it could have waited, but that is more of an obvioius decision in hindsight because of the pandemic. To be honest, MBS hosts the same or less events than Georgia Dome did. The only big event I feel like that came as result of replacing GD was the super bowl. However, MBS was built to maintain the status quo, and not change the city over again. With the only exception being that it is designed with soccer in mind and is much more catered to soccer teams and fans than GD was in anticipation of bringing the World Cup to the US and being home to the United. One question I do have is what does Allegiant and Sofi have that MBS doesn't that could have justified waiting to build the stadium in terms of amenties and design features.

Soldier Field is basically a new stadium with the old exterior surrounding the new stadium. It looks kind of odd. Great video and very well done by you Draftking. Any thoughts on doing a show on the original Maple Leaf Gardens, or Kingswood Music Theatre at Canada's Wonderland?
Super Bowls, Olympics, Final Fours... sure, those are prestigious events and all, but to Southerners, the most sacred events will always be those annual SEC Championship Games on the first Saturday in December. That's because they're primarily week-long festivals that sees the entire South converge on Atlanta to celebrate college football altogether, and to celebrate the histories & traditions of the SEC member institutions. It's more of a Southern Woodstock than it is a 4 quarter football game. Your school doesn't even have to be playing in the conference title game to enjoy the festivities. These are not just obligatory events to crown Alabama and shower them in more confetti. Because while Atlanta may hold a NFL franchise, the state of Georgia- and the entire Southeastern region of the United States altogether -will always be college football country first and foremost. The Falcons don't even land a glove on the UGA Bulldogs in terms of popularity and fan passion.
I saw many events at the Georgia Dome including witnessing Auburn football winning 3 football Titles and the SEC basketball tournament. I have been to the new stadium. Honestly i still like the Georgia Dome better.

I still call the new stadium the Dome, no matter how much new Atlanta markets it as The Benz.
GA Dome was blown up. If I’m not mistaken it’s now Home Depot Park.
When I saw the title "Modern Ruins" I wasn't sure if you were talking about the dome or the Falcons. 🤣
I went down to watch them blow it up! 😃
The stadium wasn’t even paid for yet and they needed to build a bigger and better one.
My sister & I watched the last football game played in it! Alabama defeated Washington in the college football playoff semi-final. It was a combination Christmas/Birthday gift to her. It was, in my opinion, still a first-class facility until demolished. And Alabama won enough games in that venue it could be considered Bryant-Denny EAST although the Florida Gators could also stake a claim to calling it the SwampDome. I have it on the bucket list to visit the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium...maybe as soon as this year's SECCG probably against Georgia...but the Georgia Dome will always hold a special place in my memory. ROLL TIDE!
Bama owned that dome. I was there myself. ROLL TIDE ROLL!
Yes we did. ROll Tide ROLL!!!!
The ‘96 Olympics are a super interesting story!!! Crazy how many different venues were used to make it happen!!!
Super bowl XXXIV…..What a game!
I saw the Chic-Fil-A peach bowl here and then slept off a hangover in the press box for the Panthers-Falcons game which proved to be Michael Vick’s last game as a Falcon, as he got caught dog fighting in the following offseason.
*Ed, how'd you get into the press box? That's pretty dang funny.*
@@andyroid5028 I had a press pass and I was coherent for the 1st quarter after a horrible morning, but I started to feel lousy again and The next thing I remember was the panthers were up by 30 in the 4th quarter and Vick was benched. That was actually the last game Vick played for the Falcons before the dog fight scandal.
That city should spend more on beautification, public transport and lessening urban sprawl rather than this silly stadium gimmicks.
Agreed, but money talks unfortunately
I went there one time to the Peach Bowl. They were already building the new stadium next door. I didn’t see anything wrong with the Georgia Dome. The staff there were incredibly nice and it was clean.
So sad and kinda pissed. I have so many memories at the Georgia Dome, all those different games, HS football, Falcons, Braves, Dawgs, Olympics, wrestling, monster truck shows, etc. But most of all, it's where i proposed to my now wife and where she told me she was pregnant with our first. RIP Georgia Dome.
How the hell does a Stadium become outdated after only being around for 23 years?
Meanwhile, Fenway and Wrigley are well over 100 years old. Dodger Stadium is "only" 60 years old.
Keeping up with the Joneses
Many of these stadiums are built for the spare of the moment but never for the long-term.
Our culture worships new and improved.
Meanwhile the Vatican built 1500ad
I think about “Fled”(1996) when I see The Georgia Dome.
I saw that movie at the old Lenox Square theaters. At the time, it felt cool to see Atlanta area represented in a movie. I remember Stone Mountain in that movie, as well as Stephen Baldwin.
Our high school football team played there three times in the 90's for the state semi-finals. And I got to march on that field via the marching band. Makes me sick that they demolished it.....and they hired the cheapest company they could find to bring it down. And they botched the demolition!
Crazy to think the dome was going to host world cup games for 2022 but if it was awarded to Qatar and the dome was demolish in 2017 the world cup could have save it for a couple more years
9:41: If you want to be technical, CBS broadcast the first two Super Bowls back to back, however Super Bowl I in 1967 (at the end of the 1966 season overall) was a simulcast between CBS, who prior to the 1970 merger, was the National Football League network and NBC, who at the time, was the American Football League network.
@@LaBreeceTV*Also, remember that w/the North American Mercedes-Benz headquarters having now moved to Atlanta in the last several years, Mercedes-Benz was pushing hard to have the new MB stadium/dome built with their badge on it for 'all the world to see'. There was enormous pressure from MB to move forward & also to move quickly.*
@@andyroid5028 THEIR $$$ TALKED.
Everyone knows the Dome was demolished. And the MARTA bus parked right in front the live feed camera and blocked the view
I lived in Atlanta at the time of Super Bowl XXXIV. The storm knocked out power. I had tickets to the fan fest (or whatever it was called). We took the Metro and got stuck for hours on it because the track froze.
25 years is a lifetime by Atlanta standards. Turner Field didn't make it that long.
what do you mean didnt make it that long? its still being used today by georgia state. the braves may not play there anymore but its still very well operational
@@zesolodar As a professional sports facility. But, yes. You are correct it is still being used for amateur sports.
Colt Stadium and Sick's Stadium had shorter lives.
The basketball stadium that was built was the Omni not Philips arena. It wasn't built until years later.
So many Supercross memories in that stadium for me
Great episode!
That last game with the NFC Championship victory really sent it our right. lets for get what happened 2 weeks later
Use to work for the falcons great building sad to see it gone but the Home Depot backyard is fire 🔥
I remember going to the Roam the Dome event back in 1992 with a friend of mine who lived in Atlanta. When I saw the stadium had been demolished, I could not believe it was gone! There was no reason to replace it except due to some sob’s ego.
I remember wcw monday nitro wwf monday night raw and wwe wrestlemania 27 was at Georiga dome
As a falcons fan it's beautiful as a football fan it's beautiful love this stadium
My first game in the Dome was Falcons Chiefs in 2000, I was 8. There was an infinite amount of memories under that fiberglass roof. We had a real home field advantage back then no matter how bad the team was. Now that new monstrosity attracts the other teams fans like honey. They made home games destinations for away teams. Dumb.
I remember going to a battle of the bands there as a kid haven’t been to anything like that since
A well done video as always. Good stuff
Underrated channel
It was entirely foolish to get rid of the Dome and Turner Field imo…absolutely nothing wrong with either of them. Complete waste of money!!
They didn't get rid of Turner Field, it was just remodeled into a college football stadium
It is a parking lot now. The end
I saw a lot of really cool events at the GA Dome.
Fantastic piece of research and editing. I miss the Dome. Saw one event at MB and we were not impressed.
Never got to see an Event at the Georgia Dome, but my Friends have such fond memories there. Now I can make new memories with Mercedes Benz Stadium. Can't wait for 2026 when the World Cup comes to Atlanta. I already have my Couches Booked for that 🤣!
Went to the last regular season falcons game in 16. Beat those saints into the ground baby
What’s this intro music called it goes hard
I loved the Ga dome and the new “stadium“ but I believe Atlanta has the perfect weather for an open air stadium
Never forget that 2013 champion game.
I actually preferred the Ga Dome vs the Benz. 😊
We had wrestlemania 27 too
I was at wrestlemania 27 with my son. It was awesome
I almost went to the last event at the dome but i had a backpack so i couldn’t go but did get close to the venue.
Lambeau Field is 65 years old and Solider Field is 98 years old, just to put things into perspective.
Danger Will Robinson! Danger!
@@LaBreeceTV 😄😄😄 that's me.
Soldier Field is basically a new stadium with the old exterior surrounding the new stadium. It looks kind of odd. The old stadium as a whole is long gone as it's interior was demolished for the new stadium. You do see a few rows of seating of the old Soldier Field toward the end zone sides, but not much of any other interior.
Fenway Park is 110 years old, and the Red Sox think it will last another 40 years.
good video about the history of the Georgia Dome and all events it hosted..The final ruling of the 2013 NCAA Final Four was a Louisville player could keep the record of the Most Outstanding Player, but L'Ville couldn't keep their 2013 championship..Anyway, the Georgia Dome held a lot of football games (Peach/Chick Fil A Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Super Bowls, Falcons games, and SEC Championship game)..The Georgia Dome also hosted multiple NCAA Final Fours, Atlanta Hawks games, and ACC and SEC Tournaments..The 1998 Falcons were very good and entertaining and made the Super Bowl..The 2016 Falcons actually won their NFC Championship game at the Georgia Dome..The Georgia Dome did go through renovations..This is a good video ⁉🎥💺🏈🏀🏟🎤The video failed to mention two movies were filmed at the old Georgia Dome..Drumline and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk were filmed there, and I saw both in theaters!! 🤔
Excellent job! Thanks
They should've just remodeled it & had the Falcons play where GA Tech plays while it was being remodeled
That Bus is such a Hater 😂
Very informative 🤝
Being a Bama fan I had the opportunity to visit here MANY times and there was not a finer dome. The seats were great, field views were great. The MBD is completely different. Seatsare far away, the amenities are over the top and the damn annoying train horn. I have nothing but great memories of the best dome that ever existed.
Atlanta really likes to build new stadiums. I'm 50 years old and MLB is on it's 3rd stadium, NFL....3rd stadium....and 2nd arena? That's just so much.
You should do globe life stadium/choctaw stadium the former home of the Texas Rangers
I saw many events at the Georgia Dome including witnessing Auburn football winning 3 football Titles and the SEC basketball tournament. I have been to the new stadium. Honestly i still like the Georgia Dome better.
Only been to 2 NFL games, both in the preseason… the first one was at the Georgia Dome😢
