    When we returned from Singapore we lived in Williams Close and then moved to 7 Court 2. My memories of the estate itself as it relates to playing are fairly happy ones where I would be out cycling and climbing, running and laughing with other children. Back in those days home time was tea time was just before dusk and seeing it all here is bitter sweet. I hadn't appreciated how much greenery there was in and around the estate at the time. None of us do when we are young. I used to take my bike and ride around all day. I have a lovely scar still to this day on my chin where I was injured doing a handstand on my bicycle saddle whilst going down the overhead bridge from the NAAFI (no longer there). I thought I would be a gymnast or an acrobat back then 😂😂😂😂

    We lived in Old Rowner (3 Marles Close) in the 70s when hubby was at HMS Collingwood. Used to love visits to the NAAFI for cheap groceries. Our local was the Green Dragon, which I believe is still open.
    Happy days.

      @@iTzxPGamez we visited a few years ago and had a drink in the pub.
      Rowner doesn't look the same though. Our flat has been joined to, what was, the upstairs flat and is now a house.

      We used to live at 3 Marles Close as well! It had been turned in to a house by then. It was huge. This was back in 2003 I think... My memory is poor 😂

      @trinityleigh8765 wow what a coincidence!
      As a flat it was was big so combined with the upstairs flat it must've been massive.
      Was it still naval when you lived there?

    Browndowns! I used to love that place! Used to go swimming in the murky waters with my cousins and siblings, jumping off the bridge and those rotten old little boats/canoes. Then down to the precinct with my Nan she would take us to the sweet shop for a pick and mix! NOSTALGIA!

    Wow. That was a good watch. Moved away at 16 (1988/89). Lived in Savage close for a number of years, firstly in the flats then to 88. Then moved to the courts. Loved the togetherness we had there. Went back a few years ago, but just didn't recognise it. Thanks for this video.

    I grew up in rowner lived in savage close then Gould close. It was 1971 to 1980 when my dad retired from the navy and we moved back up to the northeast where my mam and dad are from. I loved my time there, happy times , I went to brune park school and would go fishing at brockhurst fort , sad to see what’s happened to it but time moves on.

    I used to be proud of it back before it got ruined to the crappy horrible modern rubbish it is now. Rowner was never the problem sure it had rough people rough areas but where doesn't. The idiots in charge can refurb and rebuild but it won't change anything just make it ugly. I for one loved the concrete jungle and miss it every single day its how I grew up. I'd happily demolish the disgrace it is now and have the old estate rebuilt back to its former glory
