My dad used to live at no. 37 Hilary Court and I spent many Sundays with him roaming the estate with his dog Elsa in the early 90s. I was always scared of the big heavy doors and the concrete stairs that smelt so bad. But I also have fond memories of being in his flat, which he took such pride over, and going to the newsagents for treats. He loved his home there.
So man places. Thankyou ever so much for the memories. was 50 just last month, esp. the old bunker in the woods. We would drink beers and look as porno mags lol. after the storm of 87, we made a 'den' Some hippy's took it away lol. I'll just go back to watching tv than go out as we use to.
I drew up the repair details while at Gosport Borough Council in the 1990's. Tip - never leave a tray-shaped shoe under any vital reinforced concrete component connection to it's substructure when it is open to the elements!
gravel pits was once owned by Fred dyke and had an uncle who worked their driving a steam crane he had on site which was taken over by hall aggregates in late 60's .
I had some great times there when married lads from INTREPID would invite us single shipmates round for parties and barbecues ect. Great times. That would have been between 1986/1990. Then I was drafted to hms drake. What a shithole. Living in 12 man rooms and paying for the privilege of it. No lonely was my area and I got a swap draft to NELSON. Easy days, just got my hook and room to myself. Lost my hook about 5 months later through punching out a chief cook. That's life. Would go back anytime but now in 56 just 4 years to pick up my AFPS 75 at 60. Won't be a lot for 8 years but it will go with my royal mail pension, paid at 60 also. It's amazing how many ex mob, indeed ex forces joined the Royal mail. Not now because its ashit job now and the new staff from 2 years ago don't get any of the benefits that we got and only get £12:54 per hour. And 67 before they can pick up their crap pension, ect.
