- Another how to folks! This one's for repacking the Wings exhaust. This is fitted to my Husqvarna 701 but it can be applied to any of their cans and I guess most other exhaust cans (i've only ever rebuilt 1 can before so just presume they're all the same).
WEAR PROTECTION KIDS! I only wore gloves for half of this and my hands and arms were itchy for days afterwards. Also use a facemask, you don't want this stuff in your throat.
Tools required are as follows...
Centre punch
Hammer
Rubber mallet (probably)
Drill with 5mm bit
Rivet gun
Pliers/grips

Id rather buy a new one 😂 fuck that. Funniest video I’ve watched in ages 😂😂
That's the second time I've replaced the packing and it was just as big a struggle but I'm Scottish and tight so I don't want to spend more than i need to. lol
any idea how to unbent the small dents caused by the strap? it really bothers me
Very helpful and entertaining. Thanks for your content. Could you do a video on how you wash your bike? Chain ect. Thanks 👍
Ugh, to make one of them I actually have to wash it! 🙄😂
Nice video! Did you get all the packing material from Wings? and how much is it? Thanks
yup, got it all from wings, got them to send a new core too so that i didn't have to wrap it myself. Pretty sure it was around £40 delivered and it was here in less that 24 hours haha.
Brillaint Video. Very useful and transparent about the fuckery 🤣. Dreading when I’ll have to do mie , starting to rattle at low gear high revs. How often do you replace?
Good video👌 what size rivets did you use?
The rivets came with the new packing. They were stainless ones though. 5 or 6mm I guess.
Did you lose low end power when you took the DB killer out of that exhaust
Not that i can remember. It was tuned with the baffle out (i think) so all good 👍
Would it be easier to repack with both sides of the can removed?
Yes and no I think. It's twice the faffing on with drilling rivets and removing the end caps then trying to squeeze them back in. The only reason I had so much bother with this is because the link pipe was corroded on so I could get anything in there to help line the core up.
How many miles/kms were on the Wings when it started to get louder?
I honestly can't remember, but I done it twice while I had it and it was about 4,00 miles between each one. I did ride pretty hard all the time with no baffle and that's supposedly very hard on the packing.
500th sub mate ;)
WOOP! XD
suggest to wrap some masking tape around to avoid scratch cheers mate
Good idea!!
Did you leave the brown tape on ?
Both times I took it off but I have heard of people leaving it on. Makes sense leaving it on but wasn't sure if it would cause issues.
Tolerance adjuster +1
How did you know it needed repacking?
First time round it had just gotten very loud. I ride hard with no baffle and done many track days. This time i may have screwed up on rebuilding it as it didn't sound right and had also gotten very loud during a fast ride out with friends. Have a look half way through the video and you can see the inner core was split right down the middle.
I'm suspecting I have to do the same soon. I've had Wings on mine for 3 years now, and it has gotten VERY loud recently.
Twedymoto is it bad for your bike if you don’t repack the exhaust? Or bad for your exhaust or whatever?
Remove both ends
