This movie is my fucking favortie superhero movie no matter what toxic spidey fan says.
One line I feel a lotta people slept on when they insisted Miguel is "completely in the wrong". When Miles interferes with an alleged canon event in Spider-man India's universe, Jessica states that "If we're lucky, we can stop it from swallowing the universe. We're not often lucky." (might be paraphrasing a little). So yes, while that particular incident could well be Spot's doing, that small bit of dialogue shows they're not just making shit up and have dealt with this multiple times before. On the flip side, Miguel remarking that not every Spider-man goes through all the same canon events means he might not be right about THIS occasion. And that's what makes the conflict great: There's evidence supporting both sides and until it's all over, you can't say who's in the right.
For me it was Gwen, she's so internally hurt and destroyed. Instead of exuding confidence the same way like Miles, she's forced to bottle it up and always wear a mask of some sort in front of anyone. She can rarely truly be herself in comparison to Miles who feels allowed to be most of himself.

Parker - Stan Lee's original creation defines all the SpiderMan - but, i'm sorry, in film, Parker has never been developed as well as Miles in the SpiderVerse films. What they've done to Peter in No Way Home is a tragedy. I don't even like 'him' [the character not the actor] anymore. He's an entitled Mary Sue character. I mean he nearly destroys the multiverse because he wants everyone to forget his mistakes - *but* also wants to keep his super model girlfriend. He also kills his Aunt but the film doesn't care and just thinks having Tobey and Andrew back is "more fun stuff". Finally No Way Home disrespects it's other characters including Strange who is a hapless buffoon and Osborn - who somehow 'cured' by what amounts to chemical castration from Parker. In terms of story logic Parker's 'cure' is both an evil and hypocritical act [he *cures* everyone by STRIPPING THEIR POWERS] , and it wont' work. Osborn is a villain by *choice* - who took the serum he made in order to make himself powerful as power is what he believes in. Osborn didn't choice to make a different decision. He was simply ironically declared "cured" to Parker's evil and stupid acts could be justified for the child target audience.
This movie is a celebration of the character and most importantly, what he represents. The specific aspect in this case being tragedy. And how Miles challenges that.

Across the Spider-Verse is an absolute marvel in animated cinema. Everything from the story to the animation was perfectly well done. Phil Lord and Chris Miller have created a new unique way to tell amazing stories. They learned the medium of animation and improved it when they mixed classic 2D with modern 3D to create the Spider-Verse. When Lord and Miller made this style, they realized they didn't want to compete with other animation studios like Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks, and the joy of animated movies is the medium of animation itself. ITSV raised the bar for animation across the world & changed many ppl's thoughts on and ATSV once again does that. So many ppl Ik who wouldn't have watched it cuz of the animation (like my mom) ended up absolutely loving it. And obviously that's cuz of the great story & characters.
1. It's animated beautifully 2. The villain has motives that are understandable and isn't made into a joke 3. The story is a great deconstruction of what it means to be spider-man, Spider-man isn't about what events everyone should follow, it's about having the strength and courage to be your own person 4. The soundtrack is pretty epic, not just the ones artists made but the score by Daniel Pemberton mades the movie work so well 5. every character is animated differently which I find to be genius not just the dozens of dozens of spider people
This film does a great job in many ways. Miles and Gwen's relationship, the struggle of being Spider-Man, and the struggle outside of the mask. Having so many perspectives made this so engaging. You have Miles, Gwen, Hobie, Peter B. Parker, and Miguel's views on the canon. It gives you a lot to think about. Especially since, after watching this film, you could see the cracks in Miguel's canon theory start to form. That is what happens in Mumbattan, and the dimension Miguel went to isn't the same. Mumbattan only started to glitch because of Spot's dark matter. We don't know what really causes that other dimension to disappear. When Gwen asked if he knew what would happen if Miles broke the canon, he responds with a threat. So there has to be another reason.
The Spider-Verse films became my favorite Spider-Man films, and they make me so hopeful for the animation medium to finally get more respect in the west as something more than just "kids stuff".
I had been waiting for your take on this movie since I saw it. Thank you :) I hope that the third one is good enough for you to do another one of these.
My theory is that miles can save his dad without causing a canon event because if he was an anomaly he was never supposed to exist and neither was his story in the Spiderverse just like his teacher said his story is blank, he can do whatever he wants in it. His own thing
I waited for months until I finally had the time to see this movie properly and let me tell you this is a MASTERPIECE of a movie! Just yesterday I saw a video about how comics are not as great as they once were, same with super hero movies and etc. And here comes this MASTERPIECE to prove everyone and everything wrong. This is genuinely one of my favorite movies of all time and doesn't even have like those massive set pieces and lots of action, but just the emotional weight of it all is enough to carry my attention so hard that I literally didn't look at anywhere but my TV for TWO HOURS. This is great and I cannot wait to see what Beyond The Spider-Verse brings to the table!
I know the working conditions of the people involved in the production were less than stellar BUT I think that when it’s all said and done - they made a pretty good piece of art. This movie is such a spectacle! I love it and will be enjoying its creativity for sometime. Good job Sony! Well done artists…
Great movie seriously didn’t feel like I was sitting there for two hours and when they all started to come together at the end. I perked up on my seat and said let’s go.. I was enjoying the movie….. then my friend made a joke, and he said it’s about to end, and it popped up on the screen to be continued… I was devastated…. they did a great job because I left wanting more and made me feel like I was there for like 30 minutes to an hour..
Sony has perfect chance to make a Spider Man 2099 solo movie or game in future now Miguel is even more popular hero and we finally could get to see him in a Spider Verse movie
Prior to this movie video games like Spider-Man: Edge of Time and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions were the closest to ever utilising Miguel as a character and giving him a compelling narrative outside of the comics. Fun fact: In Edge of Time Miguel was voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes who is best known for voicing Spider-Man in the 90s cartoon while in Shattered Dimensions he was voiced by Dan Gilvezan who voiced Spider-Man in the 80s cartoon and is best known for voicing Bumblebee G1 Transformers. But wait, there's more. Josh Keaton who is best known for starring in The Spectacular Spider-Man voiced The Amazing Spider-Man in Edge of Time while in Shattered Dimensions he voiced The Ultimate Spider-Man (who wears a symbiote in that game and has total control over it). As for The Amazing Spider-Man he was voiced by Neil Patrick Harris, the same guy who starred in Spider-Man: The New Animated Series. You can tell the voice director knew what he was doing when he gathered these people to voice their respective characters.
No offense but Miguel Ohera sucks. His character only works in this movie because he's nothing like he is in the comics. Not to mention his rogues gallery is ass too. I'm good. Id much rather have an Agent Venom or Superior Spiderman Trilogy.
ATSV is if the hero didn’t/couldn’t finish the villain off and the villain goes through a training arc and finds that he had the power of badassery all along just to beat the hero
The movie was just right, showing enough and I can wait. Having a bit of an idea of what happens in the comics, I can see where the story might go. Though I do wonder what will happen...
I saw the movie about two times in theaters. I was pissed off when we got to the cliffhanger, but it was a fun time. It's a goddamned masterpiece and I can't wait for Beyond the Spider-Verse.

ITSV raised the bar for animation across the world & changed many ppl's thoughts on and ATSV once again does that. So many ppl Ik who wouldn't have watched it cuz of the animation (like my mom) ended up absolutely loving it. And obviously that's cuz of the great story & characters.
It set a standard and I think it's own style. Anime is Japanese, Cartoon Network has CalArts Style, ITSV is "Urban" style
I feel like anyone who says "animation is for kids" watches Avatar the Last Airbender and immediately changes their minds
That audio effect on 3:08...
That's a very Very specific effect that i only heard once before.
You sir are a man of culture.
1. It's animated beautifully
2. The villain has motives that are understandable and isn't made into a joke
3. The story is a great deconstruction of what it means to be spider-man, Spider-man isn't about what events everyone should follow, it's about having the strength and courage to be your own person
4. The soundtrack is pretty epic, not just the ones artists made but the score by Daniel Pemberton mades the movie work so well
5. every character is animated differently which I find to be genius not just the dozens of dozens of spider people
Where do you even get the third point from ?
@@onglanh5329miles basically disregards the notion of what Spider-Man is he doesn't even say he's Spider-Man during his fight with Miguel
This has got to be your most astute and diligent analysis of a film yet. Thank you for making me love and appreciate the film even more.
The context is sad but the sound effect cracked me up 11:12 😂😂
2:56 I would've never believed to see that Meme in a Filmento-Video. Thanks!
You're the first person to actually make me laugh at Jesse's reaction to Andrea's death. Screw you, you smart bastard lol
11:10 the metal pipe sound effect💀
I love The Spot; taking a obscure joke villain and turning him into a legit "Avengers Level" threat is just beautiful writing.
Finally been waiting for a video from you about this movie
13:52 "Like Dorsia for Spiderpeople" lmaoooo
The Spider-Verse films became my favorite Spider-Man films, and they make me so hopeful for the animation medium to finally get more respect in the west as something more than just "kids stuff".
I had been waiting for your take on this movie since I saw it. Thank you :) I hope that the third one is good enough for you to do another one of these.
If it's good, we will
If it's bad, we definitely will
My theory is that miles can save his dad without causing a canon event because if he was an anomaly he was never supposed to exist and neither was his story in the Spiderverse just like his teacher said his story is blank, he can do whatever he wants in it. His own thing
that's a great theory!
You make the most entertaining and informative video essays, keep it up!
8:34 is possibly the best joke ever written
I know the working conditions of the people involved in the production were less than stellar BUT I think that when it’s all said and done - they made a pretty good piece of art. This movie is such a spectacle! I love it and will be enjoying its creativity for sometime. Good job Sony! Well done artists…
YOU CANT HIT ME WITH THE "Delayed Indefinitely" AT THE BEGINNING, I AM SO DEVASTATED!!!
the spot's growth as a villain and Miguel O'Hara as an anti-villain are excellent characters
Filmento’s editing is just chef’s kiss 🤌
This might be your best video ever man. Great analysis of an incredible movie and you even put one of my fav songs into the video (twice!). Good job!
Bro, when he played the metal pipe sound on peter’s death I lost it
FINALLY HE POSTS THIS FILM PERFECTION VIDEO IVE BEEN WAITING FOR FOR MONTHS!!!
I'm still not getting how you're not already have 1 million subs! You deserve it dude!
Anyways, great video like always!
He made the Transformers fanbase angry so they stormed off🤣
Just saw this yesterday. Chef's kiss.
I watched it again, and loved every second of it.
I love your edit’s and humor lately 😂😂🤣
This movie was the best thing I saw all year
Yes, loving the consistency keep up the good work...🎉🎉🎉Your videos are Fire, I am always anxiously awaiting the next one...👏👏👏
Was waiting for this video
One thing about the scene where Miles follows Gwen...Miles saw how Gwen felt when she was about to head off to Mabattan.
The whole Miguel speech at the end gave me goosebumps and miles saying I’m gonna do my own thing was ducking badass
The memes and editing make these videos some of the best on the entire internet
I love you filmento
ATSV is if the hero didn’t/couldn’t finish the villain off and the villain goes through a training arc and finds that he had the power of badassery all along just to beat the hero
By far your best analysis....your best video imo
I was expecting a BIG twist when Miles realises he's in the wrong Universe. Like some horror movie type.
11:12 I came back to this video for the 3rd time just to see this part and it still cracks me up. LOL
The movie was just right, showing enough and I can wait. Having a bit of an idea of what happens in the comics, I can see where the story might go. Though I do wonder what will happen...
Prowler Miles Morales is the perfect way to invoke the evil twin archetype in storytelling.
12:54
“we know enough to…” and the rest of this quote is just gold 💀
This was great. Can't wait for the dead reckoning video
I have been waiting for the Filmento take on spooderman ever since it got released. Thank you
I saw the movie about two times in theaters. I was pissed off when we got to the cliffhanger, but it was a fun time. It's a goddamned masterpiece and I can't wait for Beyond the Spider-Verse.
but miles unironically looks crazy good w braids
12:54 “We desperately want them to make up and make out” 💀
bro the metal pipe falling sound effect when peter dies in gwens universe made me die laughing
Filimentos choice for music in his videos is always top notch 😵💫
been waiting for this one for a while, thank you filmento for dissecting this piece of art
This movie is a masterpiece of a movie 😢❤
This movie brought all of my friends together
That spot really hit the bagel.
Spider-Man across the spider verse if not one of my favorite animation movie I ever saw
Man I love Filmento, and man I love Spiderverse. This video is two great things together AND there was a couple seconds of Rage Against the Machine? INSPIRED. Thank you Filmento for your insightful commentary and fun edits
never back down never give up
I love how he added blush effects on Gwen in the thumbnail lol 😳
Great analysis. Across the board.
I love how we’ve embraced the bagel as the symbol of the multiverse
This video really hit the spot
