I work for an aquarium and pond maintenance company so I have to know my fish. Mirror carp were bred to have big or minimal scales to make them easier to clean for eating. Asian carp is what gold fish and koi descend from. Koi are just selectively bred Asian carp, whilst goldfish types have been even more selectively bred. But all can interbreed with each other. The scale pattern on that massive Mirror carp would suggest it is a cross breed between a koi and a carp. This is because koi fish, like Mirror carp, were bread to have no or minimal scales. So when they gross with a wild type carp, the genetics make the scales large and irregular, which is how you get that pattern. Honestly, I'd have loved to get that Mirror carp off you alive for breeding because that large and irregular scale pattern is now highly desirable in fancy goldfish types. I might head down to Melbourne to try my luck for a breeding project.

Asian carp is an informal grouping of several species, commonly referring to the four East Asian species silver carp, bighead carp, grass carp (a.k.a. white amur) and black carp (a.k.a. black amur). These four species are staple food fish in their native China, where they are collectively known as qing cao lian yong (青草鲢鳙) or si da jia yu (四大家鱼, "Four Great Domestic Fish") Gold fish, however is selectively bred crucian carp (C. carpio/鲫鱼)in China more than 1000 years. What’s been caught in Australia is actually mostly common carp (C. carpi) - known for lots of small bones and very strong muddy taste.
@NeoStart20 that's interesting, thanks 👍 I had trouble finding out what I do know, because all carp seem to be placed in the common carp category. It's like Comet goldfish are different to common goldfish but all aquariums seem to lump them together. I also believe they were bred much long than 1000 years as the first written account were rule of breeding because yellow was the colour of royalty and you were not permitted to breed them. Which would indicate a much longer timeline

What bread should i use, how do I rig it properly and what locations is it a solid choice for? Cheers legend
Bread is only good in places there is carp and you need really soft white bread and never use the crust as bait, Only the white centers and make sure to compress it on the shank of the hook good till it is like a dough and try leave the tip a little fluffy where the hook tip is. I lay the hook on a flat piece of bread then roll the hook in the bread before compressing it. You can take corn too and use that if bread wont stay on but never wet the bread before putting it on and once you cast you cant keep reeling and moving the bait or it will go soft and fall off so cast and leave the rod

Once it got turned off apparently the fish would die but i have never been back to check since.

This is by far the most interesting way i have ever ben told that someone catches carp and i am super invested. This is something i will need to try and see if it does better than just plain white bread. A lot of extra effort for maybe the same results but we will see the results when i try it eventually 👌
@@juzadventures Hey thanks for the reply, most people just think I'm mad or this a joke. But I have convinced a number of fishers at Morgan at times. Once I got $50 from a guy , and then he started catching carp wit licorice and he shut his mouth after that.

i dont even fish but liked the last few videos. Just cool seeing areas i know from riding dirt bikes illegally as a kid full of fish.. i might throw a rod into the murry while camping but rather be in the bush on a dirt bike or chuck a few cheese cubes into the water and just shoot big carp from the top of the bank
I believe in NSW you can use a compound bow with a fishing reel and rope to an arrow and just shoot them with that but in VIC that is illegal unfortunately. Bread crust floats and the carp love that and will surface as well for it and corn or bread would be better using as bait on a rod if you only wanted carp but the cheese should get the cod as well if they are around 👌 Either sit close to the rod or have the drag loose as i have lost too many rods camping due to leaving them unattended 😆 Usually i shoot the carp as well but not in the water, i land them first then target practice before going out for deer
@juzadventures we know it's not exactly legal, and none were my guns as I don't have a licence.. But it's just something we did growing up, and any police encounters were always handled by great local police who just had to shine their torch on the water and see a bunch of dead floating carp.. They just left us alone once guns and registrations were checked and cleared. This was the late 90s early 2000s when things were easier in life. We also had some nice 4x4s to get us, bikes, and our gear to nice untouched sandy beaches away from ANY camp sites, so we could have loud heavy metal playing, lots of beer and weed and no one to bother
Weird thing about carp is you would have to pay to fish for them in the UK, we have a problem with Eastern Europe people who eat them (Christmas special to them) funny game this fishing thing depends on where you are in the world. Good luck with your adventures 🇬🇧👌
If i ever made that trip i would be happy to pay to catch one of those giants that are over there. We also have people that eat them in Australia but it is good to get rid of them here so if they want to eat them we let them just so it helps clean the rivers. Hopefully you can make a trip to Aus one day if you haven't and came catch some murray cod
The two urban water authorities in Melbourne charge a fortune for rates. Please pass these locations on and get the drains cleaned. And remind them that you are doing a service removing carp. They'll pay contractors to plant trees but not clean the drains.
I have been reporting a lot of faults recently and no one seems to care and they never go check for sewerage leks or blockages. I will report this one and see how we go. They banned fishing here and now look at the state of it! Full of carp and brown water with broken drains the whole way through
Cool vid Dough made out of cheese twisties is great bait .. give it a try 👌 I can tell you a mint drain with carp up to a meter to mate springvale road down from the nandos id love to see you fish it and do a vid

Lol got the same style rod .. Daiwa Aird x ... pretty sure where the concrete ends at MP creek is salt water, so there would be no carp. But i have seen big mulloway in there ....
I have been fishing that area recently but haven't had much luck, i was hoping for estuary perch from around there and it looks like alright fishing if you pick the right time of year
Hi Mate, I really love your video. Can you tell me where is this place as I want to do this as well? Or I live in Mulgrave suburb, can you recommend me any locations nearby? Thank you so much!
Barramundi often all end up being the same size in a billabong - because they eat anything smaller than them, so only the same size fish survive. Looks like the same thing happens with carp.
Surely they still have fish in them and if you are ever in that area might be worth throwing in a bait. Even somewhere closer to where you live now would have fish in it if travel is the problem so might be worth looking on maps and getting out and making some new memories that can be shared for many years to come. Find a waterway and its name and try googling fish species in it and fish accordingly 👌
Koi and common carp and mirror carp are all the species.. like a Swahili person a Pakistani person and a native american can all breed with one another
Defiantly not eating them 😂 Currently have no pets and i have a lot of mates who will take a few for fertilizer and i freeze some for baits for when fishing for giant cod and even make burley bombs for fishing by mincing them up but that stinks and don't do it as much these days

Maybe sliced liquorice looks like a worm?
Nice, killing it last few vids. You must have got over 400 subs in the last month?
I try not to keep track mate, It stresses me out knowing i need to get better as my views go up and it is a lot of work for one person 😆 Yeyeyeyeyeyeyeye keep up the good work as well you legend, I like what you are doing
i dont even fish but liked the last few videos. Just cool seeing areas i know from riding dirt bikes illegally as a kid full of fish..
i might throw a rod into the murry while camping but rather be in the bush on a dirt bike or chuck a few cheese cubes into the water and just shoot big carp from the top of the bank
That sounds like fun ey lol
@@mifo2000 that’s sounds even better!
@@mifo2000just the sort of campers everybody wants...
I used to pull carp that size out of Merri creek..
I believe it mate, For some reason smaller waterways hold the bigger fish and it has always stunned me how they thrive in such small amounts of water!
Great work guys. Can I ask where you got your extendable net?
That is Bacons net and i can't remember where he got it from, I believe it might be a kato net
Nice redback technique!
Spiders get to me, If i feel the web on me its over 😂
The two urban water authorities in Melbourne charge a fortune for rates.
Full of carp and brown water with broken drains the whole way through
Please report what happens (or doesn't happen) on your channel. There is an election around the corner. Keep up the great fishing.
South East water: out of sight out of mind
Cool vid
Dough made out of cheese twisties is great bait .. give it a try 👌
I can tell you a mint drain with carp up to a meter to mate springvale road down from the nandos id love to see you fish it and do a vid
I fish some lakes and seriously struggle to catch a carp. Lol.
How do you make the dough bro? Cheers
Just Blend a packet of cheese twisties with a a little water and a few pinches of flour to make it like play dough
@ thanks bro
That is awesome! I am going to try the twisties 100% and maybe even in springvale if i get time. Thanks heaps for the tips as well legend!
what pound like do you run on the freams? and what line class is your new rod?
On the Frearms i run 8lb braid and leader and the new rod was a bit stiffer 5-9kg for man handling fish and i am going to put my 15lb braid reel on that rod and i got a Daiwa TD black 1.5-5kg for the 8lb
@juzadventures nice daiwa do good rods I just got the td black 2-6kg
@@brandynbuckton3159 That is ideal! Perfect for any sort of fishing and can still stop some big fish with it if need be
Any tilapia found in Vic yet?
Not that i know of but if you ever find out they are just let me know and i will go catch them for sure
Wonder how the fishing is in parts of Dandenong Creek. Anyone headed out and caught anything?
@@mattieb3152 Plenty of people have suggested spots in this area mate, Have a read through some comments on my recents videos and see if you know of any near you 👌
@juzadventures Coming across your vids got me searching on google maps, but only having vague familiarity with your side of town I located bugger all! But it got me thinking about my area and marking possibilities on maps to go and check out. I really want to take my kids out and have them land a great fighting carp 👌
Thumbs up Brother👍
Thank you mate, You are a legend
Lol got the same style rod .. Daiwa Aird x ... pretty sure where the concrete ends at MP creek is salt water, so there would be no carp. But i have seen big mulloway in there ....
I have been fishing that area recently but haven't had much luck, i was hoping for estuary perch from around there and it looks like alright fishing if you pick the right time of year
You should check out the drain system behind box hill skatepark the whole way down the walk path theirs heaps of carp in their
I know the one mate! Great suggestion, I have never fished it but known about it from when i used to ride bmx everyday 👌
Hi Mate, I really love your video. Can you tell me where is this place as I want to do this as well? Or I live in Mulgrave suburb, can you recommend me any locations nearby? Thank you so much!
Jump on google maps and go to satellite view and look for any water around your area and chuck in a rod, That is all i did here and it payed off
Last time I stayed in Melbourne there was a area like this behind the air bnb and I wanted to drop a line so badly 😂
@@frodokhunt That is a good reason to come back and re book and give it a fish one day, You never know 👌🎣
Barramundi often all end up being the same size in a billabong - because they eat anything smaller than them, so only the same size fish survive.
Looks like the same thing happens with carp.
Happens with most fish though, Even redfin this happens and that is why big redfin spots are full of only big redfin at times
Used to fish Caribbean gardens years ago and in Corhanwarrabul Creek
Surely they still have fish in them and if you are ever in that area might be worth throwing in a bait. Even somewhere closer to where you live now would have fish in it if travel is the problem so might be worth looking on maps and getting out and making some new memories that can be shared for many years to come. Find a waterway and its name and try googling fish species in it and fish accordingly 👌
Thats a fully scaled mirror carp.
The ultimate goal for many European Carp Anglers.
100% mate! I said the same thing, It looked like none other that i have caught
🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
Koi and common carp and mirror carp are all the species.. like a Swahili person a Pakistani person and a native american can all breed with one another
😂 That's too good
Nicely done! removing those carp is a job well done. Do you eat any of them? use them as petfood or just turn them into fertilizer?
I certainly hope they are not eating them!
Defiantly not eating them 😂 Currently have no pets and i have a lot of mates who will take a few for fertilizer and i freeze some for baits for when fishing for giant cod and even make burley bombs for fishing by mincing them up but that stinks and don't do it as much these days
That tunnel walk gave me nerves and claustrophobia 😂.. could be snakes
There could be mate and i have seen some scary stuff in pipes but luckily never a snake as of yet 🙏
Great video man. Any one know of any urban drains near Narre Warren
Not a drain but there’s an old dam/lake off Inglis rd near Cardinia Park Hotel used to catch pretty big Carp and sometimes a Trout or two in there, haven’t fished it for years but pretty sure it’s accessible by a new walking/running track they put in.
@ much appreciated mate
Craig has you sorted mate 👌 What a legend! I have never fished out that way so i am no help when it comes to drains in Narre Warren but any waterway will work if its close by
Sweeney reserve the other side you’ll get heaps there or Berwick springs not far up
@@sharons9367 thanks heaps
Carp make good garden fertiliser
Their only worth👍
I have heard a lot of good things about this, even had people come with bags and take the carp i have caught to put in their veggie patches 👌
try Sale, McIntosh Drive
I will keep that in mind for when i am ever in that area, I might be around there early next year on the way trough to the east coast 👌
The fish that came out of the Clark Fork river were called sewer trout. Dioxin from plywood plants made their flesh into jelly.
That is wild! Scary to know that it is even possible but i know it can and will happen more and more if we don't look after our waterways 🙏
It’s like an easy fishing.
It can be easy at times but with fishing pressure it slows down so best to give spots a break and try fresh spots for more and more success 👌
Where is this close to?
It is🙏 in Melbourne, Victoria and that is about all i can say unfortunately mate
@ by the way I have messages you privately on instagram so if you can’t say it here you could tell me there because I’m just trying to find some fishing spots so I can hang out with my mates and fish while relaxing
@@alexsummerhill8786 Unfortunately it is a no fishing area and i don't want to be responsible for letting people know where it is. I will have a sus at the message when i get time and see what i can do

Nice one mate have you ever tried eating one
Never mate, i cut them up for baits and gag every time, I couldn't do it unfortunately
@juzadventures hahaha I have a mate that tried it and it made him chuck up and he could taste rank mud for the rest of the day hahaha
Not sure if you caught more fish or said “like the video” more haha

Should fish the anzac drain
Moonee ponds/Flemington drain?
@@Zav.-dp9rf plenty mulloway there ....
I need to find a few more spots around Melbourne for sure so any drain might be worth a look at this point 👌
Legend we need to see a catch and cook on one these drain fish
its carp...
Never from a drain system mate, i don't really wanna die yet
Racking my brains trying to work out where you blokes are!!
Fishing with Jon Oliva!
😂 Classic! Hope you enjoyed fishing with Jon Oliva
I'd like to think that you put the carp out of it's misery sooner than later Juz.
I do spike them or knock em straight away unless we get a double header and i need to land a second fish, or sometimes 3rd fish
Good on you Juz and thanks for he reply.@@juzadventures
Why Dont yu Throw em Back and Catch em Again
Cos they are an introduced invasive species and in most states it's illegal to throw them back
It is illegal in Victoria to release a carp alive and is a $15,000 fine for first offence as they ruin our waterways and prevent native fish from thriving
@@juzadventures It Wont solve the Problem Anyway. Did You Catch Any NATIVE Fish In There, I Think They HAve All Dissaperared and The CARP Are Now The NEW NATIVE Fish In The Area.
@@afterburner3999 It appears that you have missed the point and his message; it's illegal to release live carp into waterways.
Illegal means it's against the law and if caught, there's a big, fat fine coming to you.
Shit hot mate, Great video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yeyeyeyeyeyeye
That’s Carp you are catching! Rats of the waterways
To be fair they are much worse than rats in my opinion, Do way more damage to a way more important source such as out waterways 👎
Al for the old bbq
I couldn't eat carp personally mate, especially from water like this
Where is this bro
It is one of my spots i keep quiet mate, If you know, you know
These drains are all FULL of carp!
NONE of this surprises me!
Who brought em here
@@hanoitripper1809 The SAME that brought all the OTHER foreign pests here!
@@hanoitripper1809 The biggest stooges of them all! They were put in the waterways as an effort to fix algae problems i believe and many many other ways they got introduced
A good eating carp is a boneless carp
They don't exist luckily so no need to eat them 😂
Those carp have already ruined those ponds, at least throw em back so other people can catch em.
Makes sense mate but if they were never there we could be catching yellowbelly as fisheries tried to stock it but there was too many carp, if they were cleaned out the yellas would thrive and would be better to have natives over carp any day of the week.
Where is your fishing address?
The whole of Australia mate 👌 I am happy to resign anywhere in the world as long as there is water and fish, But i am in Melbourne, Victoria when i do most fishing
what happened to that noise you were making in one of your last videos, i liked that it was unique
It was terrible you mean.

You must be close to the single video record for asking to comment, like and subscribe.
OK content though. So I'll do all three requests.
Yeyeyeyeyeye might be right but well worth doing all 3 🙏
Good eating ?
🤢. Only good for fertiliser 👍
Hell no if you ask me mate 😂 Maybe from a really clean lake like eildon if you like the taste but not from sewerage water
@ extra flavour from the sewer
You dont eat them do ya brother? 😂
No way mate, I would never recommend eating carp even from clean waterways 😂
They made the best fertiliser in the world. Car are one of the most invasive species in this country. We are draining rivers to get rid of them but we don’t want to get rid of them for nothing as I said they make fantastic fertiliser and many other things grow very well from them as for the taste of the car. No thank you. I’d rather have eels especially jelly deals or muscles. regards from down under beware of the cone fish that around our island we lose too many tourists be safe.
Eels i have eaten and actually was nice cooked on the BBQ caught fresh. Also is highly requested in sushi rolls at many sushi restaurants around the world and it is called "Unagi"
Bloody carp !
They are everywhere! You should head out and try get a few yourself over the holidays if you get time 👌
I definitely wouldn't eat that
I never would either mate, The smell is horrific 😂
Go to Edward’s lake
I will give it a shot some time soon for sure

Carp Curry??
Curry sounds good minus the carp 😂
@juzadventures
The sauce gives it flavour.
@@leonharrison800 You probably need the curry to hide the taste of the fish and at that point why are you eating a fish you don't like the taste of so you have to hide the real taste with other flavors where if you eat any other fish you could fry it with no seasoning and still enjoy eating it. I bet the curry tastes insane if you put enough curry
