- From Pobeña to Santander, my journey on the Norte continues. Part 3 starts with more gray skies and a beautiful coastline. I walk with Italian friends, I walk with horses, I walk without coffee (!!), I walk alone. At the end of these stages, finally, we see the sun.

I walked the Norte in Sept/Oct '21. There were very few pilgrims, maybe 20 around in any single day. I think time of year and COVID played a role in that. When you walked in to the larger cities, San Sebastian / Bilbao / Santander / Gijon, everyone splits. You are alone aside fm the Spanish. A great reward.
That was one of my fav sections to walk!! Los acantilados after guemes were so peaceful and beautiful! And the food in Santander amazing, worts albergue too. Next time I’ll make sure to indulge in a private room! Buen camino!
Oh, I remember a not-very-good-shower experience in that albergue (it was SO not private!!)
@@NadineWalks omg it was super hot, not even a fan. the lady was so rude to all of us, it was the most I paid on a public albergue and the worst I felt.
It's absolutely magical! I love mist and fog.

I don't remember camping cabins in Islares!! 😮 And omg I know EXACTLY where this is (3:50)!! It is so strikingly beautiful! Definitely one of my favourites as well. I remember 6:30 as well. I had a bit of trouble getting across for some reason. It's so lovely seeing all of these places again 😍 thank you, Nadine!
Haha, my first time on the Norte I stayed at the albergue in Islares (I was in a triple bunk!!) but in summer 2019 the albergue was closed so we had to do some digging. My Italian friends had the camping cabin intel, and I didn't fully believe them until we were actually there. They were like- "Camping!" and I was like- "But we don't have tents!" And yet, I followed them...

As a photographer, I would definitely prefer the place at 3:50 with the low hanging clouds over the postcard weather you showed in your older photograph. It's so much more mystical, fascinating, beautiful.
I think that day was the moment that I shifted from wishing for blue skies to fully embracing the atmospheric weather. There's just something about that spot- I love that you used the word 'mystical' because I felt something like that there. It was beautiful when I was there the first time around, but a more powerful experience the second time!
The scene in the first minute of this video were/is one of my favorite and most memorable parts of the Norte!
I'm hoping to do the Norte in the next 2-3 years, so I'm so happy to watch your series. After my Camino Frances in 2019, I've just felt the need to go back and I completely agree with how you feel about the "crowds" and that feeling of utter joy and contentment when you meet that view of the world--it takes your breath away and moves me (often to tears, lol). Thanks for sharing this and Buen Camino!
I'm so happy you found these videos, and thank you so much for the kind words! I've now walked a number of Camino routes, and while there's nothing like the Frances... I think there's also something just really special about the Norte. So many moments of beauty that truly takes your breath away. I can't count the number of times I said to myself- "Is this real?" I hope you'll be able to do the Norte soon! Buen Camino!

I've been editing upcoming videos and sometimes I just sit and watch the clips over and over, trying to sink into all of that beauty. It's good to remember (while continuing to sit at home), that there's a beautiful world out there, waiting.

@@NadineWalks no way! I have slept at the munipal albergue in Bilbao July 6th and started walking the 7th!!. Thank you a lot for bringing me back beautiful memories of the camino :)

@@NadineWalks Yes, this is very possible, although I was doing the camino with a tent and I have slept only 4 times in albergues (in Bilbao, Guemes, Santander and Oviedo). Hopefully I will finish the camino next year, when the pandemic will be over (I hope). Do you plan to walk the Primitivo or continue on the Norte from Oviedo?
i assume you buy a SIM card. How's cell service with it? Also, why do you do for travel/health insurance?

Yes, hopefully the Camino will be in our futures after COVID... I have such a long list of routes I want to take!
