I think this is a big thing people wanting to get into speedrunning don’t translate from irl hobbies
Take sports for instance you don’t start to become the best but you do it because you enjoy it and if you’ve got skill and work ethic then you become competitive and start worry about all that. Unless you’re well developed in the community and a top runner imo I think competing against anyone but your own pr is dumb and will take half the fun out of it in the long run

11:03 This is called a post pass (named after using the bottom post of the sling to pass the ball from one flipper to the other), and is a very common flipper skill in IRL pinball!
I'm not too sure on how pokemon pinball physics compare to irl or even other sims, but it's neat to see the trick used even if accidental. You probably could've just held the flipper up here instead and used that to roll the ball back up the inlane to line up your shot when it comes back down if it's reasonably accurate, though.

New pinball machines are starting to come with built in Speedrun modes and timers! The overlap of pinball players and speedrunners is actually pretty big!@@ackoladeTV
depending on the pinball game, the mechanics are pretty close to real world physics, you can even tilt the "board" and it'll lock up the controls for a bit
Pro tip: if you're going for WR, check the leaderboard rules.

Cool presentation 🙂It is awesome how much is happening in the run, while the time for a run is really manageable.
And as you demonstrate: The sum of all best segments shows a lot of room, yet you also show much a player can screw up (showing that it really requires skill), but never looks "unfair".

Pokemon Pinball R&S is such a great adventure! I love how everything on the board has a fun purpose that makes sense, unlike most pinball games. Would love to see more on this game.

Meanwhile I'm over here *still* bragging about being in the top 1000 on Trials HD on the 360. I think I had one or two top 10 finishes for some campaign tracks, but I'll fucking take it.
I've played the game a bit as a kid, but that beginning explanation was more than I ever knew about it. Then again, I never really play pinball with "skill", I just focus on not missing the ball

this also just helps me understand pinball more. Its one of those yeah I kinda knew but didn't really think about that hard in terms of extreme angles perfect timing perceison memorization if doing a specific table over and over again. great stuff.

Recently got back into this game and beat my childhood record of 1.2 billion with a new record of over 5 billion
so save stating to right before input starts is not allowed? That's kinda silly, what difference does that make?
my understanding is that it gives emulator an unfair advantage to do more runs in a shorter amount of time compared to hardware runners, which makes sense
Im going to use a different game as an example, one i may attenpt someday, Ape Escape 2. Theres a part that has a lot of RNG and going a 100% would be different for a console player than a emulator player if theres a save state involved. i do belive there's also data collected when pressing "start" when booting the game on bith pinball and ape escape (Also in MegaMan Battle Network, but thats just another example)

the only problems i have with pinball are that the dexes don't actually matter for the main series. if you could get a reward in Ruby/Sapphire(or RGB/GSC for the original) it would be cool.

The pinball Ruby one had a busted infinite glitch. I let it run on a tablet for days and wracked up trillions of points. It's more of a joke really.
