I watched this again a year later what I like is how focused this is on the flick punch ... Nice that gives more to the person watching in a way. What I like about Bruce Lee that I share with him besides my background is Bruce Lee did not trap himself in a system and then figure out how to use it ... He figured out the concepts and movements he felt were good for him and his body and his context in any scenario ... Then from the concept of what he wanted he found what art that would be and just did it or created it or mixed several together ... But he started in intelligent working concepts from experience and his human sense and just went forward from what he had already learned utilizing the past knowledge as well. I appreciate his speed and skill as well, he came from a traditon of Kung Fu that appreciated flexibility in other forms and small power and directness ... And he taught us so much by demystifying and being direct about what was going on because he was so good like that, like Jeff Chan.
Viberoc and Jeff Chan I do have a tip if it helps ... on the flock punch :) Probably not a big deal right now in MMA but ... So it can be used as worth it to add in that flicking circular backfist but in most wing Chun and jkd that cirular energy is considered wrong because the arc is slower and the spring energy is loaded up ... That can be worth it but it is faster if you do it very different God bless! So instead of your elbow travel being circular to put circular energy on the backfist you drive it forward only. And you don't have any circular or spring energy you just ... You still flick it ... But it is more like the centerline punch, it just goes straight ... There's no spring or springiness there's no arc your elbow flies straight the whole time and should not slow down you time the backfist to hit while it travels forward. I saw a tiny bit of springy loaded and circular energy and if that is worth it and it can be do what you like and what works for your concepts tactics and body ... But a lot of people in jkd and wing Chun use very straightened line versions of circular moves, it is a staple ... And it adds to speed. So you just ask what you want at that exact moment. You all are champs! Good luck!
I just am watching his fight in one championship I'm like rewatching the first minutes ... The SPEED on his punches I'm not saying I don't have tricks to block that but that speed is nearly unlockable and the power and flexibility of his kicks. Yes ... He is doing great! God bless! His grappling was very smart as well he waited for the other person to move and played with what looked like a strength advantage they were both good, his opponent was not AS good he was not as good of a grappler and he was a decent grappler and he had good hands ... Not as good with kicks. Jeff Chan has been great so best wishes to win it all!
Wow it's firts time i see true jkd techniques in a mma video! Try to fake the hook and then hit with the flick punch. In this way you have more range with the second fist and it's easier follow the sparring partner!
I adore how you explain the techniques, all based on the first flinch punch. I am going the flick punch during sparing today. Love that you have the slow-mo videos added as well since you move so darn fast 👍
when he was landing them back fists i was done, im like how getting whooped with the same move, not once, not twice, i'm like kick, back fist him or something, all your videos is a blessing man all praises to THE MOST HIGH man, i use these moves in my sparring, keep up the good work chief.
An important detail on the flick strike is to not just use the power of the arm to strike but use it as a vector to transferts your weight and the leg power by turnig your hips from the outside to the inside, it's tricky and we can barely see it in lee's movies but it's a detail that makes a huge difference, and properly done you can event move the heavy bag
Really love that you showed techniques used by Bruce Lee utilizing that lead hand. I actually train in JKD and currently reading books about Bruce Lee and I really love what he stood for.
Lol we use the most of this tricks and kicks in kickboxing I remember how my trainer teached Me the Trick with the one Hand to the had and the other to the stomach Sorry for Bad english i am german:)
Os conceitos que Bruce Lee criou e aplicou no JKD são muito eficientes no MMA, tanto que tem muitos lutadores que usam essas estrategias de combate para a luta.
I practiced that opening strike in the beginning of the video A LOT when I did karate in my youth. As an opening attack it works very well, assuming you follow up and through. And that step up side kick is also very effective, if used well. My friend and I used to kick each other and see how far we could send the other flying. My record, of going flying, was 12.5 feet.
Nice job! A great collection of techniques, and I really liked the way you included sparring examples where the techniques worked and where they didn’t. That’s a really useful approach. With respect to the flick punch followed by shuffle step and side kick, I think Lee actually used a pendulum step in that case. The flick punch tends to bring your weight forward as you extend to get reach. That’s a perfect setup to use the pendulum step. You replace your supporting leg with your rear leg in a pendulum motion as your weight transfers back towards the rear and you execute the side kick. A sniffle step doesn’t have the same forward-backward weight transfer, because you don’t lean forward and put your center of gravity over your centerline as you do in a pendulum step. That little forward lean gives you a bit of extra reach for the flick punch. That said, this can be done with a shuffle step. You just don’t get quite the same reach on the flick punch.
Backfist as used in wing chun, wide bouncing stance always ready to strike as used in fencing….two examples of how Lee utilised elements of other martial arts to find what worked for him, and show the rest of us how we should just follow either him or anyone else just for the sake of it but do what works for us.
"Flick punch" is called uraken in karate (some of Bruce Lee's inspiration for his Jeet Kune Do) "Shuffle Side Kick" = Tsugi Ashi Yoko Geri "Shuffle Snap Kick" = Tsugi Ashi Mawashi Geri "Shuffle Inverted Kick" = Ura Mawashi Geri The little hop in the "shuffles" is the weakness of these tech, only the Bruce's speed erase that. In Karate (Shotokan), they had to stick to the ground, no hop, so no loss of balance. By the way, I like your job here, like others said, showing tech, then sparring and even failed attempts is really appreciated. Don't forget the first rule in a fight, run first. And if you can't... You know what you have to do.
Hey man I’ve been training muay thai for a few months now but honestly more drawn in by the boxing aspect of it. I know MT is considered to be a more well rounded martial art but i am considering switching to purely boxing and maybe incorporating some MT now and then. Which style do you prefer?
I use to like muay thai the most, but now I find I am becoming more and more of a martial artist, trying everything and learning as much as I can. I use to hate on karate, but now i incorporated a lot of karate movement and tactics, mix it with muay thai tactics and into an mma stance.
Just be careful, training in MT for a few months is not enough to fully grasps its benefits and tactics. Especially if you are only training once or twice a week. Boxing is a great sport that all martial artist should train in but you will be very vulnerable in the clinch and serious leg kicks. My suggestion is to at least get a year or MT, so you have at least the basics of the foundation down, and then transition. Just my opinion.
MMAShredded So I can't wait for Fedor and also the other, keep doing what you are doing man, you rock, even tho I'm BJJ practitioner, I will also start Muay Thai next year so, your vids help out, thanks a lot
MMAShredded 1 month now 1 stripe white belt, but you know i am enjoying myself and getting better, so I could start Muay Thai now, but I really want to have at least 1 year of BJJ experience and a competition under my banner so to speak, so I'm not a complete nooby at both and I start mixing things up
As a student of Bruce lee students for 16 years I would suggest after your flicker jab /side kick, to push shuffle forward with a lead straight or or even a kick. You just leave your advantage by stopping after the side kick and shuffling backwards. What a lot of people don't know about how Bruce fought, was that he crashed into an opponent and shut them down while beating the hell out of them. The fancy kicking and back and forth was movie stuff. He would kick the crap out of people, or he would use that side kick to bridge the gap to get to trapping and punching where the real damage was done. No need to reset. Continue forward and keep your opponent on their toes and beat the hell out of them. Do the same with the other techniques you were doing, which were pretty nice. Crash the opponent and beat the hell out of him . Bruce at 150 lbs did that to 220 plus lb good fighters. Think about ending the fight, not about a prolonged engagement.
Martial arts is about growing and innovation like any ART out there...creativity is part of any ART ...music, painting, etc. Thanks for the vid. Subscribed.
Its good to see a MMA guy who doesn't discredit the late master. Many can say Lee was just an actor because he had no record and his martial arts prowess is recorded only through stories, yet he had all these tactics written down, had students to pass on his teachings (Ex: Dan Inosanto, Taky Kimura, Ted Wong, etc.), and inspired generations of martial artists/fighters
I enjoyed every minute of your video. You're a very skilled fighter, great to watch and to learn from. Thanks for sharing this. Greetings from the Netherlands!
@@crazinkcf1840 yeah im naturally a southpaw but got trained orthadox so i usually lead with a straight backfist since i cant call it a jab as it actually hurts or a flicker jab really throws people off and makes them leave the body wide open
Awesome video. There were a couple I wished was on here, such as the side kick to the knee, and the oblique kick. My fav has always been the side kick or the inverted to the guard hand or the groan. I’m currently training JKD not formally, but taking bits and pieces for my personal repertoire. Would love to train somewhere formally, but I have been doing my best trying to self-train and sparring with friends from time to time. I feel good bout it, but I know there are a lot of errors as far as technique that I need to correct. Awesome video if I haven’t said that already. 👍🏽
I like how you're leading with your right. Southpaw like Bruce. I read one of his books. He stated that fights. (Self defense fights on street) rarely last more than a minute. He believed that having power in his lead hand (his dominate hand) would result in more power and end fights quicker. I'm certain you're not a southpaw. Which makes this video very impressive. Especially that roundhouse. Conor mcgregor is a left handed southpaw, Which suits him as he uses a lot of bruces techniques and styles, but his power comes from his left hand. Or did.
what opponents? you must mean actors or stuntmen. there is no recorded video of the actor bruce lee in a fight. unless you consider the choreographed scenes of his movies a fight. btw santa clause is not real.
@@makattack25 OH well here comes the another keyboard warrior 😂😂 first of all Who tf are you to ask about his personal life or fights? A K idk Man U wrote this whole paragraph of nonsense for no reason Bruce lee was an actor and a wing chun martial artist he never fought in competition, he was not as good of a fighter as most think, he just had good concepts, I’m sure any MMA fighter could beat Bruce lee
@@hyperstormy976 "He was not a good fighter as most think" XD Well that most aren't even thousands in numbers they're all Keyboard warriors. Nonsense? That was a reality which your whinny ass cannot accept. Competition? There you go. I'm talking about street fight! Without rules! MMA is a "Sport" for entertainment and Competition. And You guys believe it Real thats your problem 😂🤦🏻♂️ MMA fighters could beat bruce lee inside the cage with their own Rules... But on street fights Bruce would smoke 98% of them and even 2% later. Jon Jones, Dana White, Conor McGregor, Anderson Silva, Royce Gracie already said this statement. But i think Keyboard warriors like you might be more practical or knowledgeable than those fighting legends. 🤦🏻♂️
A K and BTW if Bruce lee ever had to fight any MMA fighter on the street his little ass would get dropped, it’s cute that you believe in that fantasy fighting shit but in the real world ur head bounces off the concrete
Most people don't understand Bruce's fighting strategy because they don't understand the man! Bruce isn't a wing chun or kung fu guy he was a fighter! Bruce wanted to win period! He was not married to any fighting style. Boxing has the best punching and evasive techniques, so he added it to his wing chun! He also added wrestling, Kali, karate and akido also! All to be the best and he was! He also was a bodybuilder and cardio demon! He was and will always be the King of martial arts! Shannon should learn Poker and become a professional player She has her Father's instincts! She should also learn Gracie jujitsu I believe She would be great!
Man... Your channel is awesome!!! You could probably do a part 2 on this vid with Bruce Lee, definitely with Lerdsila and Senchai too!!! These breakdowns are incredible man! Perfectly simple explanations and footage! Thank you dude.
@@MMAShredded yeah, i love Lerdsilas style and have watched a lot of highlights trying to pick it apart so me and my son can practice it and I'm going to be honest your breakdowns with your footage make explaining that to my kid so much easier. After I watched that Lerdsila video I found Senchia, we watched them repeatedly. Your explanation and footage for multiple angles is a massive help dude! And you are picking some of the coolest moves to make counters off of to show us and this video with Bruce Lee showing feints leading into combos really shows the initial concepts of setting up combo strings and training your opponent to fall into your traps. Thank you for your service bro.
@@MMAShredded you are picking out some of the coolest and most effective moves out there and dropping solid instruction on the how and why, im wondering if you have seen the baseball choke... the baseball choke is a really cool move because you can start putting it in while you are in half guard and when you drop an opening to let your opponent slide into side mount you tighten it up and they come into the choke hardly knowing that they are in a choke and probably not believing there is even a choke from there... I've also seen the baseball choke effectively used buy a guy on his back who was mounted... Having a submission that comes out of half guard is pretty cool but having a submission that you can do to an opponent who has you trapped in a full mount is something to see.
A couple that I see a lot done by Jon Jones & McGregor are low kicks to the shin either used to disrupt/feint OR keep opponent from moving forward: (a) the low jab side kick to the shin, and (2) the low oblique kick to the shin (which Lee calls "crescent kick").
Its amazing how you show these tactics in a real sparring session / with failed attempts. Now thats what i call quality content and dedication. keep it up champ

Good luck!
@@MMAShredded You are unbelievable by the way ... Thanks for the love on the subject!
: )
In this way you have more range with the second fist and it's easier follow the sparring partner!
true thanks!
OMG I waited this video my whole life, thanks you ! Master Bruce LEE !!!
haha thanks for watching!
pretty efftetive, great work, i'm going to practice this now lol
sweet thanks for watching and let me know how they work for you!
I adore how you explain the techniques, all based on the first flinch punch.
I am going the flick punch during sparing today. Love that you have the slow-mo videos added as well since you move so darn fast 👍
awesome thanks bro!
when he was landing them back fists i was done, im like how getting whooped with the same move, not once, not twice, i'm like kick, back fist him or something, all your videos is a blessing man all praises to THE MOST HIGH man, i use these moves in my sparring, keep up the good work chief.
thanks for the support brother!
2:31 I started using that, it's very useful tbh :)
awesome man!!
Thanks for the video, now do a real legend like Master Ken
haha il make note of him!
hes hilariouss
When you do that fake punch and then do that side kick, your side kick becomes much faster too. I remember Lee talking about that in his book.
I feel faking my rear punch just before kicking actually gives more snap to my rear kick. Must be the rotational counterbalance
sweet tips guys!
he's side kick isn't powerful enough. plus it's not proper stright. he's movement is really good
@@aamirfarooq5899 if your talking about the instructor its a spar not a fight.. They aren't trying to hurt eachother
Wat book bro?
An important detail on the flick strike is to not just use the power of the arm to strike but use it as a vector to transferts your weight and the leg power by turnig your hips from the outside to the inside, it's tricky and we can barely see it in lee's movies but it's a detail that makes a huge difference, and properly done you can event move the heavy bag
Really love that you showed techniques used by Bruce Lee utilizing that lead hand. I actually train in JKD and currently reading books about Bruce Lee and I really love what he stood for.
"Bruce Lee is the Father of MMA" - Dana White
Lol we use the most of this tricks and kicks in kickboxing
I remember how my trainer teached Me the Trick with the one Hand to the had and the other to the stomach
Sorry for Bad english i am german:)
thanks for watching!
Os conceitos que Bruce Lee criou e aplicou no JKD são muito eficientes no MMA, tanto que tem muitos lutadores que usam essas estrategias de combate para a luta.
Bruce Lee taught that the hand ALWAYS proceeds the foot. He reiterated this in his writings.
nice thanks for th etip
@@MMAShredded You should learn jeet kune do under dan inasanto i feel you'd be 🔥 at it. And it has a great deal of Western boxing in its stand up.
awesome!
@@MMAShredded yeah bro you should really learn that shit. You'd be unstoppable.
Wait I'm dumb. I don't get it. So you punch first, then kick?
I practiced that opening strike in the beginning of the video A LOT when I did karate in my youth. As an opening attack it works very well, assuming you follow up and through.
And that step up side kick is also very effective, if used well. My friend and I used to kick each other and see how far we could send the other flying. My record, of going flying, was 12.5 feet.
This was very enjoyable to watch! I can't wait to try these in sparring sessions and work these techniques into my arsenal. Thanks bro!
thank you!
A lot of these are demonstrated in modern day karate competitions in sparring sessions, now ik why people use this tatic it came from the GOAT
oh i seee
You just don’t get quite the same reach on the flick punch.
thanks!
Backfist as used in wing chun, wide bouncing stance always ready to strike as used in fencing….two examples of how Lee utilised elements of other martial arts to find what worked for him, and show the rest of us how we should just follow either him or anyone else just for the sake of it but do what works for us.
"Flick punch" is called uraken in karate (some of Bruce Lee's inspiration for his Jeet Kune Do)
"Shuffle Side Kick" = Tsugi Ashi Yoko Geri
"Shuffle Snap Kick" = Tsugi Ashi Mawashi Geri
"Shuffle Inverted Kick" = Ura Mawashi Geri
The little hop in the "shuffles" is the weakness of these tech, only the Bruce's speed erase that.
Dude this is interesting. I'm practicing muay thai and kickboxing for 4 years and now I see that I could expand my tactics in combat that way.
yes its good to be open minded in martial arts! I've been training Muay Thai/ BJJ for 11 years and I ve been implementing karate footwork into my game
ONE THING FOR SURE EVERYTHING BRUCE DOES IS BLINDING SPEED !!
yeah!
He explains what bruce lee style can be use on MMA and some of it are actually usable

Hey man I’ve been training muay thai for a few months now but honestly more drawn in by the boxing aspect of it. I know MT is considered to be a more well rounded martial art but i am considering switching to purely boxing and maybe incorporating some MT now and then. Which style do you prefer?
Ostavaakos Dutch kickbox
I use to like muay thai the most, but now I find I am becoming more and more of a martial artist, trying everything and learning as much as I can. I use to hate on karate, but now i incorporated a lot of karate movement and tactics, mix it with muay thai tactics and into an mma stance.
Every style of martiAl arts has something to offer.
yes I agree!
He's using the flicker jab!!
haha yessss

SWEET BRO GOOD CHOCIE! How long you been training BJJ?
MMAShredded 1 month now 1 stripe white belt, but you know i am enjoying myself and getting better, so I could start Muay Thai now, but I really want to have at least 1 year of BJJ experience and a competition under my banner so to speak, so I'm not a complete nooby at both and I start mixing things up
no i totally agree! You will get much better if you focus on one discpline first. I started with muay thai for 4 years then transitioned into MMA/BJJ

Bruce Lee is the father of MMA really so far ahead of his time.
@Brick your total wrong bruce lee was not just for movies he really is fast and quick
Sorry, No Sijo Bruce Lee is NOT The Father Mixed Martial Arts, but He was The Eienstien of The Martial Arts, and YES, He was a Head of His Time.
Not any more its because people now considered bruce lee's way of fighting a style now and people put bruce lee in a catagory of styles now
No Bruce lee had no formal training on the ground but he is a good striker 😬
@@skycow3208,

hehehe yeah!! KK i will make note.
god the red guy is like: "ok hit me for your video... after it you will paid all"...
Its good to see a MMA guy who doesn't discredit the late master. Many can say Lee was just an actor because he had no record and his martial arts prowess is recorded only through stories, yet he had all these tactics written down, had students to pass on his teachings (Ex: Dan Inosanto, Taky Kimura, Ted Wong, etc.), and inspired generations of martial artists/fighters
thanks for watching!

It's more effective with South paw stance like Bruce lee does

Or did.
6:00 imagine how Bruce Lee's opponents felt after that.
what opponents? you must mean actors or stuntmen. there is no recorded video of the actor bruce lee in a fight. unless you consider the choreographed scenes of his movies a fight. btw santa clause is not real.
@@makattack25 OH well here comes the another keyboard warrior 😂😂 first of all Who tf are you to ask about his personal life or fights? Chuck Norris wasn't his student but bruce beat him in a secret fight told by the way the dragon director. Now you're comparing fictional character like santa claus with the real life legend. Then dumbass ask about him to his known one rather than bitching and moaning on internet. If he wasn't that great nobody would had learned his martial arts style from him. 🤦🏻♂️

Are you a middleweight?
next fight in Nov is at bantamweight

That snap kick, the flick hook and the flick side kick I might incorporate more.. good stuff
