Vita Mega Vegamen, working in candy factory, Lucy telling Ricky she is “speckting” and when Lucy meets William Holden. Am 74. I remember when I Love Lucy were not reruns!

True story. Bill Frawley ate lunch every day at the Brown Derby for years and always ordered the same thing. One day he walked in and they had increased the prices. He got so angry that he stormed out of the restaurant and never returned again.

@@alandale2182 Yep. Do you have any idea what that Cadillac convertible would be worth today? Back then it was a big joke because it was a 32 year old car. Today you'd be looking at about $40K to buy that thing.

First of all, Lucy DID learn how to drive before they left New York. It just isn't shown in any episode after Ricky tried to teach her. Second, Lucy DID drive on the way out to California. In more than one episode, it showed her driving. In Ohio when they stopped at that dumpy cafe. In Tennessee where she gets off the main road and onto an old logging road. Third, it did not take a few days for them to get to California. It was a couple weeks. Because they made stops like in Albuquerque to visit Ethel's father.

It was cute , but unrealistic. Fred and ethel can stay in a hotel with them , in California? also that they leave their little three -year -old son in NY ? Just very selfish and immature writing. Lucy Ethel and Fred always acting like teenagers

If you know the story line (and it's obvious that you do NOT) Lucy felt that the car trip would be way too long for Little Ricky because they were going to stop off in so many places. Rightly so too! So she had her mother come down from Jamestown to stay with Little Ricky in their apartment until they got to Hollywood and got settled in. There is nothing wrong with a grandmother taking care of her grandchild for a while. Lucy's mother and little Ricky then flew to Hollywood so they would all be together.
As for it being 'unrealistic' in a way, this mirrored real life. Because Desi and Lucy worked so much between the series and running Desilu Studios, even though they had servants in their house, Lucille Ball had her mother 'De De' move in and take care of Lucie and Desi Jr. She basically oversaw the house and the kids. Lucie Arnaz has spoken about this in interviews. How their grandmother was always there for them and how they considered her to be something of a saint.
As for Fred and Ethel staying in Hollywood with them, it's true that Fred had to pay for his own hotel room. But it was NOT a big beautiful 4 room suite with a kitchenette like Ricky and Lucy had which the studio paid for anyway. They just had a normal plain one room hotel room so it was affordable. Pl;us, in those days, hotels gave discounts for extended stays. Also in those days, people could and actually DID live in hotels. It could be cheaper than an apartment.
