Maybe the clear roof will turn out to be a blessing you didn't expect. So sorry you have to move that gorgeous clematis....hope the move goes well. I'm thinking about a few of those metal beds. Glad to see you installing and the challenges.
Hi Robin 😊 those metal beds are really handy and great for plants 💚🌿 I have to find a new planting area for that Clematis and I don't have any wall space or shed roof left to cover that can take such a vigorous climber, but I do want to keep it 🥰
Thank you, Emma 🤗 Yes it is difficult to manage it all with shorter days, but when you get a substantial amount done, its really satisfying in the end 🥰 Love the current dry days 💚🌿
I love the colours of fall 🍁🍂. Wow so good no one was hurt as that looked wild. Those swedes are funky but I bet delicious 😋. Chickens are quite funny to watch 🤭. AMA ing use of clippings and money saving too 👍. 25:00 love the over view of the house. Have a super week Maiju and hope it’s a calm one, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦
Amazing amount of work completed! 👏🏻 I love this time of year for giving us more time to get on with those bigger jobs! Your garden is beautiful in every season! 😍🍂
Thanks a million 😊💚🌿That's so kind of you 🥰 I'm really looking forward to spring to get the garden under control again, but for now I'm pleased that I can take it a little easier going into winter 😍
Hi Maiju 👋 ❤ Lovely seeing you on Danny's live last night. Geez you've been so busy. Those tomatoes look delicious. Lots of calendula seeds they look so pretty in the garden. Plenty of garden waste for your lovely raised beds. Your pergola looks really lovely. and will be a great space to sit out come sunshine or rain. Love Clematis Montana, we have a pink one that rambles over our pergola. The black netting looks so much nicer than the white netting. Have a great weekend ❤
Thank you, Linda 🤗🥰 last nights Live was a great fun 😂 I agree with the black netting, it looks superior to the white stuff and blends so much better with the nature 💚🌿 Have a great weekend, too and best wishes, Maiju 🥰
We had a similar pergola in our previous home. The polycarbonate is never quite the right size. It will be good when it's done perhaps with some lovely climbing roses. So much hard work. Thank you.
Thanks a million 🥰 We will wait for the sheeting to arrive before attaching the remaining battens, just to make sure we'll get them to the correct distance 😊💚🌿
Haha, Kerry...I'm actually prospecting, when trying to dig 😂 Especially when carrying the pickaxe, and all you'll hear is the sound of stones clinking against the metal 😁
The size of those swedes!! All this clearing. My garden is still just a jungle 😂😂 My greek gigantes aren't quite ready yet - want some nice dry weather!
The swedes are a good size, they're a F1 variety, so far the most reliable..... I left one plant of the GG still standing, where the piece of the arch remained in the ground as the beans themselves aren't that large in the green pods yet...so same here, hoping for them to dry naturally on the plant 😊💚🌿
Lovely video Maj! I'm filling my raised beds up the same way this week. Gosh autumn has such a dramatic change to the garden doesn't it. It'll soon be bare soil and awaiting for spring! Lovely video. Danny 🌱🌻
Thanks Danny Boy! 😁 I love seeing the crispy dry leaves off the trees on the ground, its so pretty.....and the next thought is - I'd love to run the lawnmower over them collect it all.... its like gathering gold 😍 I initially loved the idea of mild climate and growing and gardening through winter, but now I seem to be changing my mind about it and prefer to take it easier over winter months just to be really ready for spring again 😊💚🌿
Great work, Maiju! I love your big new planters. I was wondering would you consider doing a video about the various tools you use around the garden? The hand tools and the electric or fuel. What do you use, what for, what are your favourite/must-haves?
Enjoyed with envy as always. Although you’re tidying up you also have lots alive in contrast to our zone 4ish gardens. Our garden is well put to bed here in Edmonton, AB. Fall weather is definitely a little longer in the past couple of years so I may need to add a few more plants/shrubs that we can enjoy for longer than we had been used to. Enjoy your beautiful Autumn colours-perhaps the changes with your pergola allows more light & views as well.
Hi, Breda and greetings to CA! 😀 Our cold weather is only arriving now, this week is close to 0C and I am tempted to start ''putting the garden to bed'' for winter rather than continuously plan growing in there 😊💚🌿 Looking forward to getting the pergola finished, the sheeting should arrive tomorrow 🤞 Best wishes, Maiju 😊💚🌿
You have a lot going on for the winter. Many of us just take a break. Re trellis roof. I had same experience in that I planted a grape vine. It grew very well was productive and then attracted all kinds of critters - raccoons and possibly opossums one of which was killed by something else - just steps from my bedroom! So I pulled that all out. I currently have a climbing rose on one side which is going to be pruned. I also use morning glory on other trellis pillar which is away from the house. It being an annual, it is v decorative and productive but dies out in winter.
Oh gosh, decorative plants definitely seem to overweigh edibles in those situations... I like the idea of Rose and Clematis mix on the trellis. Thank you for your lovely comment, have a great week! 😊💚🌿
Start your rotation with spuds as they clean the ground for the next crop. Over winter onions are fine, usual the Japanese, but like all onions if they get too much water they bolt. I used 6mm polycarb, on my greenhouse and worked very well and saw a very big reduction in gas use and much earlier cropping as could maintain the night temp, better for less so go speedy growth. Always keep them in the bottom of the fridge for next year then you don't have to buy as they keep years in the fridge. I have a good second crop of carrots from 6 year old seed as I sow what is needed , then put back in the fridge saves a lot on money bulk buying.
Hi Robert, How is all in Portugal? I'll see how I get on with the onions, not sure what's best for us in the way we eat. In the end it might just be easier to buy them from the shop. I have used potatoes in the ground before, just found the buckets much easier, especially when it comes to dealing with diseases. They are a great ground clearers alright 😊
@@spudsandroses Yes spuds are good ground clearer's which is why I always put them in first when cutting new ground. Onions. I tried a few seed this time as my shop only had 1 bag of sets left. I sowed in field and very slow so took a few plants home and put in some barrels I bought for my hydranger cuttings and they produced almost t as much from 6 as from 3 rows in the field, so try it but cover in heavy rain otherwise they bolt..
Hi Mijiu love your videos thanks so very much for your videos I live in Kerry. Watched your live on Danny channel and you showed ocra never grew them . Just wondering if I try them . Ps your sheeting over pergola will be fine as wind will blow trough it. While I was watching your video today I know you did that big job during the year as you were concerned about posts ❤❤🪴🌶️💐☘️☘️
Hi Sarah 😍Def try Oca if you're up to tasting new flavours and textures. I wanted to get more into growing them because they don't suffer from blight and can be a potato replacement. Now they're definitely not a spud replacement, and their size is small, but could work as a perennial vegetable (when mulched heavily in winter) or just an all rounder veggie that doesn't seem to have any pests or troubles. The texture is different as well, something more similar to parsnip when cooked, but it can be eaten raw in salads and then it is crunchy 😊💚🌿
Hi, Thank you so much for the video! It is really surprising that you can make such an engaging & interesting video at this time of the year. I enjoyed it so much. It was nice & long too. It is really interesting to hear your approach in different areas. Your strategy & decisions of the pergola seem absolutely perfect for our climate & I would do the same. The sheeting should do a great job to protect the wood. I cant wait to see how it will look. Is the sheeting the same as is on your glasshouse or is the sheeting on the glasshouse curved? Do you remember where you got your netting from? (Was it from Gardening Naturally) (I have fount it quite difficult to find netting - the usual garden centre netting does not seem to be very strong). I also have a very windy garden. I think it is probably much more exposed than yours. It makes gardening challenging. To think of different long term strategies on how to create nice spaces & protection for plants is a challenge. I am trying to find ways around it and trying to find areas where plants are happy to grow. You are doing such a great job. Thank you so much for sharing it. 😊 I am sorry the girls are creating probelms for you. They are so cute though 🐔 All the best. 💚💚💚 🌸
Aww, thank you so, so much. You deserve a medal 🥇😍 Such a thoughtful and kind comment 😊💚🌿 The polycarb sheeting is flexible material. It comes rolled up and can be attached on a curved shape as the greenhouse roof and sides are, or on a flat surface. We have angled the new pergola roof and will be attaching the polycarb sheeting flat, just need to use good washers as the screws will otherwise go though the material easily. The netting for the hoops is from Gardening Naturally indeed, it is a butterfly netting, only to keep the birds, cats etc off the beds, I think it was 5m in length and is a good, strong netting. Love the hens shuffling in the garden...except when they start eating our crops or make too much of a mess with the woodchips 😀 Thank you again for your lovely, lovely comment 🥰 Have a great day! 😊💚🌿

Aww thank you so much, very kind of you 😊💚🌿
You’re such a hard worker and you always seem to remain calm. ❤❤❤
Aww, thank you, Karen 😊 💚🌿
As long as I've got a plan in my mind ready what and how to do things, that's what keeps me calm 😅
Well done on getting so much done! The shorter days make it tough to find the time to get out there so this is impressive stuff ❤💚
Thank you, Emma 🤗 Yes it is difficult to manage it all with shorter days, but when you get a substantial amount done, its really satisfying in the end 🥰 Love the current dry days 💚🌿

Oh boy that rocky ground!! I know you've mentioned it before, but seeing you try to dig it 😬😬😬 Definitely needs the raised beds!
Haha, Kerry...I'm actually prospecting, when trying to dig 😂 Especially when carrying the pickaxe, and all you'll hear is the sound of stones clinking against the metal 😁
Great update, you got lots done. The polycarbonate roof will be a nice spot for both people and plants, I dream of something like that myself.
Tusen takk 🥰 that is very kind of you 😊💚🌿

The onions so far have started to grow already and have beautiful green tips on all of them 😍💚🌿
Hi Maiju, the size of those swedes and the celeriac is looking good too. That's a lot of clearing done and an excuse to get new planters each autumn?
Haha, I don' t think I'll get a way adding new planters every year, Ady 😂 just have to start shredding the material next year 😊

Where did you get your polytunnel from please?
Hi, Its from KSB Gardens in Ireland 😊
