Kamen Rider really needs to get its western releases more streamlined instead of multiple companies taking a whack at it

There is no excuse for the Sentai DVD sets to be $60 MSRP at this point (or even $65 for Fiveman on Amazon), when the Kamen Rider sets are a much better value for the exact same price
I'm betting it's toei doing toei shenanigans as well as sentai being the generally more recognizable/profitable/popular brand sp they can milk it harder
That's my theory. Toei charging more because of the Power Rangers connection.
Honestly these prices arent bad at all. We are very lucky. You could pay $80 to $100 per volume and end up spending $500+ or more to own a complete series. Which is one of the price points in Japan. For Bluray its way worse. If you want to own the complete first Rider series on Bluray you're looking at $300+ per volume at 4 volumes plus a movie set so you would end up spending $1500+ before shipping and taxes. Sentai sets and any other sets being in the $40 to $60 range isnt horrible and sets do go on sale. We have it good when it comes to getting these at all and we should be grateful we dont have to spend hundreds to thousands to own the series we love.
@@kevinkeene474 i mean just saying that Japan has even more insane prices doesn't mean that $60 for a 50 episode series isn't still a lot. That's the price of the entire adventure time series. Or 3 ultra series.
I bought all 15 series on DVD and right away moved the disks to a CD book for storage. I will keep getting them so I have a US set.
The Super Sentai DVDs certainly aren't perfect, but I'm amazed that we've got 15 series released now. 15 down, ~32 to go!
It's impressive for sure! A couple more and I'll have to expand to a second shelf for them
I don't mind the SPD picture. it's the same suits, and it's not like it's a gender swapped yellow season. We are talking about Toei here. They may have wanted to charge an arm and leg to send Shout Dekaranger pictures, and Shout replied "Nah we're good"
That's entirely possible. I think the blurry screenshot on the inside being the only shot of the team bugs me more than the front and back. It just looks really sloppy

After watching this I went to check my Ryuki discs and, sure enough, they also had scratches. Way to go, Shout. I also very much lucked out on not having a broken Ryuki case.
Damn. The scratches definitely bug me since even with a good quality case, they're still arriving imperfect
Luckily for me when I went to Barnes and Noble I randomly found the Ryuki set and it was completely fine for me, it had no scratches whatsoever. Although I am surprised that I found it on retail
I actually thought the covers were just prototypes but they turned out to be the final versions I do think they should've used a different ranger team cover for the dekaranger dvd as well for the back I don't know if they were trying to rush it out for release or something
It really does feel rushed compared to the others. The lack of screen shots on the inside is just bizarre
@@Soundout12 Most of the Sentai use press photos on the inside covers, not screenshots, but even if Toei didn’t provide any press shots for some reason and they were forced to use screenshots instead they picked some truly terrible ones, especially the ones on the inside cover blown up as big as they are since there’s only 2 for some reason. Also strangely there does seem to be 1 press photo on the packaging but it’s barely visible behind the episode listing, I have no idea what the deal with all this is

Yep. Same for my Zero-One Blu-Rays. I ran an experiment in the video for that set in its video last year
Thankful that I haven't had a broken Rider Blu-Ray yet, but my Carranger DVD set the holders for the DVDs are disattached to the box (not enough for me to return it), but my first copy of Gingaman the entire inside was in literal tiny pieces, which I returned. And it's kinda obvious that the next Sentai DVD would be Turboranger and for Rider the Original on Blu-Ray
My Kuuga arrived in a cracked case from Amazon, but they were cool and let me keep it AND gave me a refund...but the cases Shout use do leave a lot to be desired. Got my fair share of cracked Sentai cases...
I wonder if they tried to secure the English dub for Ryuki Episode Final... (sorry if it was brought up in the video, typing this before watching).

@@Soundout12 it's happening like a lot more recently. Use to be a rare problem for me. Has happened to me 3 or 4 times now though where the case itself has some chip in it somewhere, though the Ryuki one was unfortunate because it's at the top of the spine where I can't hide it on display.

I waited to buy Dekaranger until last Christmas, and I got it intact. Personally I was satisfied with the set. Admittedly, Dekaranger is my least favorite Sentai released so far aside from Ohranger, Megaranger and Hurricaneger but when it was good it was really good so it's definitely worth having. I just feel that literally all the Sentai that I've seen after it (everything from Magiranger through Zyuohger as well as Ryuusoulger and Kiramager) are much better aside from Go-Onger but I still like that one more so here's hoping that Shout Factory capitalizes on the potential goldmine they're sitting on.
Ryuki was also a better series. It didn't quite make the A tier of toku series for me due to too many little things constantly annoying me but it was still a pretty good series. And honestly the alternate ending movie elevated the series some for me, it's a much better resolution than the one we actually got.
Do you have any information on dekaranger dvds shipping from Malaysia? They have a different cover than these, they have all 50 episodes on 2 disks and they cost 25€ with English subtitles. I ordered a set since I'm from Europe and I cant find the shout factory release and also out of curiosity, but I cant find any information or reviews about it.
I don't know anything about the Malaysian DVDs sadly.
@@Soundout12 well finally I got my Copy. It's definitely an unofficial product. All episodes are indeed separated in 2 disks. You can definitely tell that they took the episodes from a fun-sub site, put them in a disk and sell them, I wouldnt have bought it if I knew this was the case. image quality is far from great, but that's not an issue for me since if I'm ever going to play this, it will be on a crt most likely. My biggest issue is that they have hardcoded both Chinese and English subs, so there's no way to turn the Chinese subtitles off, resulting in having subtitles of both languages playing at the same time, not a huge deal for me personally, but definitely unacceptable. Overall, it's a good enough product for what I intend to do with It, but if anyone ever spots it better stay away from it and don't support products like these. They literally sell fun-subs and this is not a licensed product.

Thats because the JP sets themself were different resolutions. Kuuga in JP was 1080i while Ryuki was 1080p.

The higher prices makes it really hard for casual people to even wanna watch Super Sentai. From their perspective, why bother buying these when they can buy power rangers DVDs for more than half the price? Not to mention more variety

Yeah that Super Sentai DVD case just is so bad. My mom ordered The Angry Beavers Complete Series which was also Shout Factory and came in the same styls case and just was completely broken.
I had the same issue with my Rocko's Modern Life set. I think the cases are fine as is as long as they're packed correctly in transit. But sadly, most places don't pack them for impact
My bet is they'll do Turboranger next for Sentai & they have the rights to the original Kamen Rider series, so maybe that one for that franchise. We'll see when that'll be, though.
If they do the original next then it’s kind of clear they are out of rights for KR

They'll do Super Sentai shows from Pre-Zyuranger and Post Zyuranger in the future this year. Kamen Rider well Discotek got Black and Black RX Shout will do Heisei and Showa, Reiwa is another story. I wish PreCure is going to be licensed by Shout Factory since its PreCure series 20th Anniversary.
@@dillonmui9484 Shout has the first Kamen Rider series licensed for the last of the 4 they licensed, so I expect a BR at some point probably later this year. For Sentai, I expect 4-5 more sets throughout the year.
@@Scsigs they can but again it’s been 2 years since they announced the Ryuki and 01 rights. If Shout wants to actually be known for KR, they need to start saying more. Discotek is setting a fine example right now with how they announced RX
With the exception of the original, the only other Rider series I can think of that Shout _could_ acquire for release are Agito and Faiz, as they are already technically available in North America, and I imagine even Toei would want those to be released through "better" channels. If Shout were to commit to licensing the rest of the Heisei-era series, I would actually buy most of them, and the same goes to Discotek if they wanted to continue distributing the Showa series. As happy as I am to see the Kamen Rider franchise getting a better foothold in the Anglosphere, even I wouldn't buy EVERY release just to keep them going.
As for Sentai I... don't really know or care. The only set I'm after is Abaranger. 😛

I also agree that Shout should stick to the Heisei era, while Discotek could do Showa era. I definitely want to see an Agito release
Note that streaming, DVD, Bluray and 4k are all separate licenses and all different price points. If some one already has streaming rights, that doesnt effect the home video release at all. From what we've see with Rider being split between 4 different companies it seems like anything could be up for grabs. V3 from Generation Kikaida (licensed a decade ago) Black and Black RX from Discotek. Kuuga, Ryuki and Zero one from Shout and Shin, ZO, J and Kamen Rider the First movies being with Media Blasters.
My problem is Shout hasn’t announced anything new lately. They announced Ryuki and 01 rights back in April of 2021. They are really slow when it comes to KR. I guess technically they got Episode Final Directors Cut. That’s “new”, but in the grand scheme of things Shout only has 4 riders series. All Shout has left to release is the original

@Zero Roze what you don't understand is licensing the sets costs lots of money. They have to see sales profits, it takes time. If the sales aren't there they aren't going to license more. Patience! In the mean time we have Black out now from Discotek and Black RX coming later this year.

Both my Ryuki and Dekaranger were destroyed when I got them from Shout Factory. I’m just not gonna take anymore chances with them if this is how they treat their shipping.

Yes, yes they are. Pretty much all the "Zords" scenes are Sentai scenes, and a lot of the quarry fights & city fights in SPD are also from Dekaranger.

I'm very disappointed in Shout, the only time I got a cracked case for Sentai was Zyuranger, and that was an Amazon purchase years, more recently my Superior 8 Ultra Brothers Blu-ray case was falling apart, what the heck Amazon, I have a good track record with you mostly and this is what happens, ended up switching cases with a random Blu-ray case trashed it's original case
I always hate it when disc cases are busted due to lack of care when packing them. It's less excusable when its from a dedicated seller like Shout as opposed to amazon where they're shipping thousands of items an hour
I think an improvement for at least my copy so far is that Ryuki's case doesn't feel like a disc can fall out like my Kuuga discs can on occasion.
That's good. Disc cases from all companies have been really inconsistent lately. Discs are sticking too hard or falling out too easily

All the complaints “Shout!” has received about the Sentai sets does make me wonder if they’re not that invested in said franchise so that’s why the subtitles, packaging and discs are off. Whereas with Rider, they are more invested and why the first three sets have been praised.
Honestly, the KR treatment isn’t exactly better. Ryuki and Zero One rights were announced in April of 2021. We just got Ryuki physically. No new Shout Factory acquisition since then
