QUESTION TO JONAS: if I like 20/20 Alu power but I have arm issues, would 23/23 Head Velocity black kind of feel like the same tension as the 20/20 Alu power? Or are multifilaments strung around the same tension as polys? I need to protect my arm so it’s either 17/17 Alu power or a higher full bed of control oriented multi. Any thoughts?!? Tak tak 🙏🌟
I used the Ezone 100 the past 2 years - I like the power and the feel, but I crave more control. I see you rockin the new radical MP and I remember you played the ezone 100 as well... is the new radical mp a bit similar to the ezone 100 in feel but with more control? we are playing similar tennis and similar skill level
I think you should talk about the materials and how they work or not work so well also include tension cross and main because otherwise we have to take your word.
Well done video- one more time. I have some thoughts that i can share. I played with a Pure Drive plus ( relatively stiff racket) and recently switched to a Head Boom Pro and have tried full bed MLT natural, TF Multifeel, ISO Professional, Triax Clear, TF TGV, and hybrid set ups with VS Gut/Velocity MLT and VS Gut/TF Triax. All strings were 17g except for the Gut which was 16. Strung around 53-54.5. I also have a bad case of tennis elbow, am a 4.5 player with lots of spin on my forehand adn a top spin one handed backhand. Here's my take 1. Multi- feel on Head Boom PRO (BP): mushy. too soft and lack of control. No arm issues 2. Velocity MLT Black on BP: somewhat soft and pillowy No arm issues. Doesn't seem to have the power i want. 3. Velocity MLT natural- a little crisper on the BP. No arm issues. 4. TF TGV on BP: relatively crisp especially when new. Gets a little mushy when frayed. No perceptable arm issues. 5. Triax on PD+: crisp, liked the string but felt the arm was huring. Whether it was preciptated with the TRIAX i don't really know. 6. VS /Tiax on PD+. i played yesterday with this set up with a bad case of tennis elbow and alternated with my BP rackets. I liked this the best due to it being a little more powerful, nice spin and control HOWEVER, my arm is very sore today. It might be worth it though. 7. MLT on PD+: nice string but not as crisp a feel. At the time i was playing with it, my arm started to really hurt- that is when i thought it might be the racket and then i switched to the BP. So, the net of all of this is that i am not sure if my arm problems get better with a slightly more flexible frame with a softer multi. But clearly the PD+ with a gut hybrid is my6 preferred feel on the racket and i get a little more power. So my next move is to decrease the tension on the PD+ with a VS/TGV set up at around 52 for Gut and 50 for TGV and see if i can control it. When i use to play a lot, even with the PD racketsa, I was stringing at 68 with ISO PROfessional and i liked the control and feel. That tension with that racket and string would destroy my arm today!@! Hope this is useful to some of you. david
Also you made a great choice not using such a stiff racquet, although your better bet is to just use a larger head size for easier power, and better feel, because the hoop is going to bend more when it is bigger even though a lot of 105’s are at about 66RA and up. I don’t always think Stiffness is super accurate for some modern frames and that all depends on what it is actually made out of to begin with. But, I guess, graphite is just graphite lol
Gut is aggressive to elbow and not very playable on low tensions. If you like your elbow get racket with 18 mains quality Synthetic gut mains and thick rounded soft poly crosses which can go easily 4 kg less then mains. I am ok with under 25kg mains but try it less it is very playable!
Well I have to disagree on the hybrid comment about most of the response comes the mains. I've been playing and experimenting with Hybrids for over 20 years. What I'm going to say is if you strung 2 identical racquets with the same mains (doesn't matter what it is) with different crosses that are similar and they'll play similar. But that's not to say that a very different cross at a different tension will NOT make and difference. Try this: Put a 16g stiff ploy like Tour bite in the Crosses at even tension. Then put Vel or MLT in the 2nd racquet at the same tension. Can you notice a difference? Same launch? same power level? Same control? Want to get crazy? put in T1 ghost wire or Cream in the crosses at let's say -2lb as a lot of people do and what's the response? Since most won't try this, here's my guide to cross strings: * You can generate a whole different POWER response with cross string selection. * You can completely change the launch angle from low to crazy high with cross string TENSION. But you want to know what's hard? Maximizing spin, control, power and feel with the cross string. It's taken me what feels like a lifetime (a lot has to do with my finicky elbow, thank god for prolo therapy), I've settled on a fairly stiff, not too slippery, pre-stretched 19g poly that's $8 a pack. This particular string has linear power which I believe to be the key to success for power swings as well as touch shots. I tried umpteen million co-polys and couldn't get any to really play great and/or stay consistent. This cross string works great for me with all versions of main strings at all tensions.
I have used Velocity MLT quite a bit but recently strung Yonex Rexis SPEED, not the regular Rexis and its amazing. I actually prefer that over Velocity MLT. Better snapback and feel, and it doesnt move and lock as quickly as Velocity from what i can tell.
Jonas, got to be honest, I cant afford to restring my 3 rackets too regularly, and I moved from Yonex PTP to Luxilon Alu Power mainly because a lot of pros use it. My thinking was simplistic; if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. Yes, I know, there are a lot of things to unpack there. But as I said, I cant really afford to go on a restring journey, and I only really restring when I break a string. My setup is the DR98, led tape at 12, and 52 pounds. The guys at Sergio's might tell you how I play. I'm the 6'4" Aussie - I like to hit the ball... hard... 😂😂😂
I play with customized Head Speed S (specs similar to MP, rdc 69) Hyper G 16 in mains and 4G 16L in crossed both strung at 65 lbs. Stiff racket, stiff strings and high tension and I have no arm issues. I hit pretty hard and have good serve (4.5 level). I tried stringing at 48 because of all the current talk of stringing low and it killed my arm, took 2 weeks for it to heal. Maybe cuz I started playing in 70's when stringing at 70 was normal 😂
I've always heard synthetic is terrible. I've been using multi as crosses and poly main, and really like how it softens the bed. If you want a softer feel, there are racquets for this, like the solinco whiteout 305 18x20 you can barely feel the racquet hit the ball. Some people love this (like me) while others don't.
The Head Velocity or Technifibre Triax are the way to go. Went to a 3 lb variance between the mains and crosses on full bed Triax and getting very good spin and control surprisingly... 51/48
Sounds true, but there’s another dimension: the racket and string combination! In my old Prince O3 Tour i prefer the Head Velocity MLT (very nice multi) over a poly (feels dead). But in the Wilson Blade 100 the Luxilon Alupower works really well. Maybe it’s because the Prince has deceased, or the Blade is alive and kicking. Don’t know🤔
Hello Jonas and everybody else ! Thanks for a great video. I have a question and i need some advice. Currently i have started to use a Head Prestige Pro Youtek (98 sq,325g & 16x19) and i loved it but i after hitting for 1,5 hour i started to feel pain in my arm later that day. The stick is stringed with RPM blast and i want some help with a more armfriendly strins set-up. Thanks in advance!
I really love multi, they have excellent power and easy for the arms, I'm ok with the string movement of multi, but as I develop my swing now I think they seem to have too many power, and I haven't found a low power multi yet. My favorite is Wilson NXT, have try string them up to 55, but still feel too many power, and it feels like it looses tension a lot after several play. Never try string it higher than 55 though, I'm worried it would hurt my elbow. I try to hybrid the NXT with Volkl Cyclone, but the NXT just won't hang on, it looses tension easily so its make it feels weird, and also the NXT broke on the Cyclone. And NXT is not cheap, that why I get it that people get poly or co poly as it the better trade off plus minus (including the price) than multi. Meanwhile I haven't find poly or co poly that also give good respond to volley. Last is I try Luxilon M2 Pro, best poly I have tried, even better than Luxilon Alu Power, too bad it also have not too good respond of volleys, and also it is discontinued. So my take is, wish there is a bit low power Multi, that would be perfect.
I love Solinco strings, but when I play with them I have some problems with my elbow and wrist (the tennis racket I use is Wilson PSX and the string is Solinco Tour Bite Soft 24 kg). Do you think that I should choose one of the multi( if so, which one will guarantee a spin) or some other soft field?
I tried mlt 1.25mm in my 18x20 youtek ig speed and really struggled to generate any spin, and i play with very heavy spin. I’ve since moved to a PA 2023 (100sq) with solinco confidential (52lbs) and loved it once settled in, but 10 hours later and its killing my elbow. Since i can’t afford to restring every 10 hours, I’m considering a hybrid with mlt again, perhaps with something like head lynx tour since it’s got such good tension maintenance for a poly. Just worried the shaped poly might chew through the multi. Anyone have any recommendations for a good poly to hybrid with mlt?
I strung my new prestige pro with Hawk Power at 52lb. It is pretty underpowered... I was wondering if I should just lower the tension or switch to multi...Usually I'm a lynx tour user, but I thought hawk power might be more powerful, but seem like it is not
YESSSSSS listen i use Multi and will not change I am a multi Stan. I have also converted most people in my club to Multi as well 😂😂😂 I use Head Velocity MLT, but I use it in 1.25 black by the way. Stumbled on this video by accident
I don’t agree with that. As a fairly good intermediate, I switched to poly and noticed a big difference in my game. Overall more confidence when swinging due to the added control. It gave me the confidence to hit hard without tightening my arm and body because of the fear of sending the ball away. I feel like playing with multis on powerful modern frames such as the pure drive or the ezone is a bit too much. The downside though is that I started having some pain in the arm, especially playing around 8 hrs per week. Maybe it’s worth trying some hybrid setup i.e. poly main and multi crosses.
@@nicolapipan7090 if you are a between intermadiate and advanced, it would be a good idea to try poly, as you said hybrid would be even more better choice. But i've seen some people as soon as they start playing, they're asking for hyper-g.
Velocity MLT 1.30 black is great! I´m planning to string in my Babolat Pure Strike 16x19, any recommended tension for this string in this racquet? Thanks man!
Yes please review the Karue hybrid poly strings from Toroline. If I put multi in mains instead of crosses in a hybrid with poly, will it last longer (move less)?
I need some multifilament advice... I play with a multi at about 50lbs. It's easy on my arm (a full bed of poly, even at 45-50lbs cause me elbow issues). So I love my multi, but CONSTANTLY having to straighten strings between points drives me mad. I have a set of Solinco Confidential, and I would like to try them in the crosses with the multi in the mains to see if i get better snap-back on the strings. Has anyone here done this for this reason? And if so, should I string same tension on both, or lower/higher on the crosses or mains?
I have a PD with Rip Contro; and Velocity. Velocity is a little crisper. The Rip Control plays a little dead. Good control though but i did not like the sound.
For me, natural gut string gives excellent spin but only if you hit with full stroke through the ball. It is worth noting that you shouldn’t string a multifilament string higher than your usual tension. Thinking that you need to string it higher because it is softer defeats the purpose of using a multifilament.
Thats logic makes no sense, the material of the string and its structure to a poly you can claim that a higher tension defeats its purposes, if anything the higher tension allows more control because tension below 50lbs creates terrible control and the string is still softer than a poly in its mid 40s.
I keep hearing stiff polys like solinco confidential are only for high level players. I'm a 3.5 and I feel like I can greatly benefit from this string. I love knowing that if I tighten up in a match, the string is dead enough that I have confidence to swing out knowing it won't go long. Arm pain took a few weeks getting used to and now I feel no pain with this string.
I recently strung up Cyclone X Velocity MLT (natural) and was happily surprised with the spin. I probably play my best tennis with a full bed of Poly, but at 35, I'm better playing at 90% for a full match and able to back it up the following day without a sore arm
if you are 3.5 just get the cheapest multi you can find and roll with it. All this talk of strings doesn't really matter when you aren't hitting hard enough.
Back in the days, pro players used sandpaper in the 70s to roughen the surface of natural gut in order to get more spin. It also works with multis or polys. But don't do it before stringing. Do it, when the stringing of the racquet is done.
I think the coaching community, at club level need a kick up their ass. I have coachines near me stringing kids with poly at 24/5 kg. becaue thats what the pro's use. And then wonder why their kids have bad joints. I think its time manufaturers did a better job at explaining what strings fit what type of player. As a Master Stringer and retired tennis coach, the information is just poor atm. Advice here is pretty solid. Which I am genuinly shocked about, but it comes from data driven and not someones opinion based on what pro played with what. Thats like a mechanic telling you to put F1 Soft slicks on your SUV
I played with Speed for the last 5 months and loved it. I tried Comfort after it was sent to me by mistake and actually like it just as good or better. Both are underrated strings.
Multifilament is only good for stringers to earn more money, it is much worse then good synthetic and much much worse then natural. Durability of Natural good makes it much cheaper then multifilament not speaking about much better specification which can easily change your set from 1-6 to 6-1! Wake up all customers. Those who do not play on clay just string what Pro are stringing! It is all just propaganda! When did you see Pro breaking string in the match? The most often playing guy in my club with fastest forehand had synthetic hybrid for 5 months, 90% of people play less then him however natural last much longer because its plasticity. Why will you string multi for half price which last 10 times less and plays 10 times worse! Wake up!
Hi, tennis nerds! Looking for any thought on Solinco Vanquish. General or comparisons, cause is significantly cheaper than other brands where I live. PS: Always enjoying your content, Jonas!

what's the point of using a poly over multi for durability when it loses it's tension so fast?
Poly creates spin and multi plays very flat in full bed!
Most people should be using mltifilament not poly
People should bin multi it is wasting time and money Gut/soft poly for slow players full poly for heavy hitters!

Best video ever Sir for knowledge ever
Tecnifibre X One Biphase and NRG2 and Head Velocity MLT are one of the best.
Here's my take
1. Multi- feel on Head Boom PRO (BP): mushy. too soft and lack of control. No arm issues
Hope this is useful to some of you.
david
The control group is just the fact your arm is always sore from tennis elbow lol 😂
Could you reveal the name?
I have used Velocity MLT quite a bit but recently strung Yonex Rexis SPEED, not the regular Rexis and its amazing. I actually prefer that over Velocity MLT. Better snapback and feel, and it doesnt move and lock as quickly as Velocity from what i can tell.
I used to strung my prestige Mp using Simon’s String of choice love it !
Technifibre NRG2 or xone bi-phase are great. I've been playing the bi-phase in 2023 and I like them very much. Very similar to natural gut.
what tension on the nrg2?
@@ThesGt Wilson Blade v8. Currently at 48 pounds but I preferred it at 50.
Would you say multi or synthetic are good to use for crosses in a hybrid? I am always confused about what to do with the 2 different tensions
Confidential 1.25 gage at 53. It’s pretty hard at the beginning, but keep my shots inside the court!
Hi Jonas,
Thank you for the video. Are you still using string project gold / Magic ?
I use a hybrid of Ashaway Kevlar and Lux 4g. Super stiff and lasts a long time.
The Head Velocity or Technifibre Triax are the way to go. Went to a 3 lb variance between the mains and crosses on full bed Triax and getting very good spin and control surprisingly... 51/48
have you tried velocity MLT on a hybrid with a polyester? Does it react well?
Works great until the Velocity's coating breaks down. Then there is a sudden drop in spin. But until that point you are golden!
@@vanodne did you use it on main or cross
@@brunoalves3736 Both. Actually using it right now as a cross with Lynx Tour mains on a Gravity Pro.
Don’t know🤔
Try Gamma ocho XP multi. Doesn’t move or fray.
Why is your racket takeback on the forehand so fast?
I use Head Rip Control 1.25 black and love it
hawk touch reminds me of luxilon element with a little more pop
Jonas, what do you mean by responsive? Some relate it to the feel, others power, others spin.
Polytour pro is good with it
I strung my new prestige pro with Hawk Power at 52lb.
Seems like you take a super wide takeaway, even behind your back on your forehand. Have you tried making it a bit more compact?
How do you rate TF X-One Biphase? I have used it for a long time and really like it.
Agreed. I don't understand polyester love among rec players. There are plenty of good multiflaments exist and more suitable for low level of players
Hello, by any chance, do you know what string Marozsan is using? Thanks
Velocity MLT 1.30 black is great! I´m planning to string in my Babolat Pure Strike 16x19, any recommended tension for this string in this racquet? Thanks man!
I have 16g in my PS 98 at 52lbs. Love it!
The problem that multi doesn’t last that long. I like the feel, but as soon as it frays it loses all the jam. Plus it breaks like there is no tomorrow
Can you get the ERT 300 in the USA?
does stringing velocity mt at 45lb would be very trampoline? is 50 ideal then?
why do dark colors give more control?
What was the score against the pro Marco?
Yes please review the Karue hybrid poly strings from Toroline. If I put multi in mains instead of crosses in a hybrid with poly, will it last longer (move less)?
No
Multifeel
the black version 👍
I need some multifilament advice... I play with a multi at about 50lbs. It's easy on my arm (a full bed of poly, even at 45-50lbs cause me elbow issues). So I love my multi, but CONSTANTLY having to straighten strings between points drives me mad. I have a set of Solinco Confidential, and I would like to try them in the crosses with the multi in the mains to see if i get better snap-back on the strings. Has anyone here done this for this reason? And if so, should I string same tension on both, or lower/higher on the crosses or mains?
I've been using technifibre triax multi for yonks and it doesn't displace, might be worth a try
I liked the ones I tried but I tried triax once and snapped it within 3 hours. None ithers were any better for durability really.
Jonas, have you tried Prince Lightning Pro?
Weiss cannon power principle best for cross
Just give me a set of IsoSpeed Professional classic or Control classic 👏👏
ISO Speed Pro was my string for about 15 years. I have switched.
Anyone tried Rip Control and Velocity? How do they compare? Which is more dampened? Controlled? More spin?
I have a PD with Rip Contro; and Velocity. Velocity is a little crisper. The Rip Control plays a little dead. Good control though but i did not like the sound.
@@dmf30 thanks Dave! Too low pitch?
@@jorgeandrescoppiano More like a dull thud!!! If you can handle triax i think that might work. What racket are you using?

Can you please also comment on using multifilament in hybrid with poly?
do it all the time! great thing to do, jus tmakes sur eyou string the Multi at about 53lbs is you string the poly at 48lbs
@@CH-yp5by poly main and multi crosses?
Jonas, why do you say to avoid synthetic gut?
They tend to be cheaper strings without spin potential and with poor durability.
@@Tennisnerd thanks... I didn't realize the spin potential was generally poor for nylon
If you want to continue playing into your 50 or 60, multi is the string to go.
they stopped selling head hawk touch red as a reel : (
90% of rec club players should be playing with at least a half bed of multi.
Rule #1. Get the cost factor out of the equation.
Like how much of a difference does it really make, seriously
multis most anoying thing is string moving, I hate it. it moves a lot. thats why I prefer gut+poliester hybrid, it moves very rarely.
Head RIP control
When i strung on the pro tour, Simon did not use intellitour.
What did he use hahaha
What tension would you recommend stringing head rip control in a head speed pro racket
How can anyone recommend anything for you when nobody knows how you hit?
Just keep restringing untill you get tension that works for you
What tension is suutable for wilson blade 104 if using head velocity mlt 17 ? Thank you
Wilson blade 104? Really????
What tension for velocity mlt in rackets would you recommend.
Stop
"If you want to improve" take lessons from an excellent teaching pro 😂
Velocity Black is terrible, I tell everyone to avoid it. Once the black coating wears off the stringbed is locked.
Which color would you recommend then? Natural?
True... black multifeel is worse...
Velocity in black gets notched in 15 minutes of play with me. Terrible string.
Pure drive 2021, advise tension and string
Kevlar strings at 65lb
Yonex Rexis Speed. Don’t look any further. Spent hundreds of dollars to arrive at this. At 56lbs. Thank me later.
I played with Speed for the last 5 months and loved it. I tried Comfort after it was sent to me by mistake and actually like it just as good or better. Both are underrated strings.
@@robertclary1718 thanks. Does comfort have similar speed/power?
@awa3374 yes I think it does. I really expected more power and less spin but that's not the case.
