    I go with Golden Set’s HexPoly 18 at 39 lbs main by 43 lbs cross. I tested lots of string. The feel, bite, longevity (15 hrs?), and price is excellent. I played D1 in college in mid-90s and like to think my strokes has evolved over time; i.e., I hit a lot more slappy & get pretty solid rpm on my shots.

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting! You are using tighter crosses than mains. What do you find this helps you with? What racquet are you using?

    • @euroclyde
      @euroclyde ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TennCom I use Prestiges from about 2 generations ago, the mid-plus size. I add tension to the crosses because I think the resistance of the mains eats up some tension as I pull and I’m trying to have a consistent tension across the whole bed. I also always pre-stretch my strings, if for nothing more than to make them less curly and much easier to string.
      Have you tried the HexPoly in addition to Golden Ser’s SnakeBite? I’ve tried their whole lineup and prefer the hexpoly. Weird thing about GS is I’m not convinced their gauge is accurate. In my fingers, the 18 feels more like 16.

    Based on this video, I put Tourna Silver 7 Tour (17G, 50 lb) in the Gravity Pro, and it's my favorite string I've tried so far. It has a nice, crisp feeling while still maintaining some comfort. Great control and spin. Definitely underpowered, but it helps me open up my stroke to go for the full swing. $10 for a single set and the #2 ranked tension maintenance by Tennis Warehouse University. I will be using Tourna Silver 7 for the foreseeable future.

      V-square has been my go to string for a bit. On TW string database its in the top 3 for spin potential (IIRC). Holds tension well and it's pretty soft for a poly when strung lower.
      The only thing I don't like it don't feel like the square shape gives you a consistent response when flattening the ball out and the launch angle is high - which may work for some.
      Its a good string.

      X-Perience is a very solid base string without any major weaknesses. I personally prefer a more connected feel, typically found in metallic coloured strings (silver, gold, copper). I don't ever really think that the strings on my personal list become "bad" until position 45 or so, they just aren't to my preference. If you want to start experimenting, I think its important to try the classic, ALU Power, RPM Blast, Polytour Pro, then all the more unique strings, like anything square with sharp edges (Ultra Cable, Game Changer). See if you notice practical differences. You may not notice at all, you might find some totally change your experience.

      Good question. It depends on you racquet. I think if you are swing fast and have a more opened patterned racquet, it might not be the best choice. I find that these super slippery strings can be inconsistent, especially when you get the string to "bottom out," meaning, if you maximize the string movement before the ball has left the stringbed, there could be slippage or premature snapback which leads to inconsistency. For example, I've have poor results with Zero in my VC98 because of inconsistency during fast swings (even when I'm trying to hit big spin), but great results in my tighter patterned Extreme Tour. Time410s is one of the biggest promoters of this string (and I would trust him 100%) and he prefers very tight patterns and lighter racquets. Those are both factors which reduce ball pocketing and snapback due to the racquet's inertia.

    Hi Beckett I play around 10 hours a week. I play with an ezone98 2022 and confidential 1.25 at 50lbs. I love this string but I end up breaking the string in under 2 weeks. I can't afford to string more than once a month. Any advice?

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way you'll be able to make things last longer is if you go to a thicker string. The thickest you can get Confidential in is 1.30, which probably won't last thaaat much longer. Hyper-G is available in 1.35mm which is probably your best bet. I would recommend reducing tension to 45lbs to compensate for the significantly thicker string.
      If you don't like the thickness (snapback will likely reduce unless you have a very very high swing speed) then ReString Zero 1.28mm is probably the best bet. The lubrication lasts very long a really prevent notching much longer than most strings. I would probably string this at 52-54lbs since Confidential is much more control oriented than Zero.
      Could also consider Hyper-G 1.35 in the mains and ReString Zero in the crosses.

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  ปีที่แล้ว

      I discuss this more in-depth in my ReString Zero review. Essentially, notching (when little grooves appear in the main strings) increases the contact patch between the strings, increasing friction in the string bed, reducing snapback. This could be interpreted as "going dead." Only poly's notch, nylon and gut frays.

    I get this is your opinion based on experience over a period of time, but really it doesn't tell us much. Your racquet and tension play a great part... For example you may not have rated a certain string because you strung it too high/low for your set up/game.
    Sometimes you refer to a string being 'deader', but that maybe a positive for a player trying to tame some power & that perhaps is exactly what a player is looking for.
    Too many variables here to mention, that really other than your opinion, is quite meaningless to those looking at learning about strings.
    As for ALU Power, I'd choose ALU power rough over it any day of the week. I think most would agree, but hey, that's only my opinion. 😊
    As for tension, I assume you're playing largely in a cooler climate. I play mostly hot all year round. Tension changes markedly in weather extremes & hence why players will often change tension accordingly.

      Grapplesnake does have some European distribution that is seperate from the one I work with. I think for a while it was at TWE, but there’s also a German site and a Spanish distributor.

      Grapplesnake does ship in eu, I buy it in Poland but I wasnt so enthiusastic about it, I just played better with ISO speed baseline which is 80$ for 200m reel. You guys should try to review it! Its very crisp and powerful and lasts forever.

    I get terrible pain from my shoulder basically down to forearm when I play for more than 4 hours a week. Any advice on what I can do to mitigate this?

      What level are you? What racquet and strings are you using?

      @@TennCom 4.0, just recently changed to the Wilson Labs Shift 99/315 strung with Solinco Hyper-G 16L 46x46. I dropped tension form mid-high 50s and still having arm problems.

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recommend videoing yourself to confirm there aren’t major technical deficiencies with your strokes. The pain sounds very severe and I’m not sure a new racquet or string setup would help that much. Going to full nylon or gut would be the obvious move.
      Usually tennis arm pain is from hitting the ball late which causes you to tense up and muscle the ball over the net. If the Shift is heavier that your previous racquet, it’s very possible that you’ve started hitting late.
