    Well done Charlie really appreciate you taking the time to explain the difference between point's and electronic ignition system 👍 John's triumph bike is amazing ,that's when men were men and the name of a flower was a pansy,.lol.

      Yes it is. The amal carbs are on it now. It runs well but not quiet 100 percent yet.

    New Amal's and a Pazon... I bet it ran like a dream after that. There's no better feeling than installing an EI (or some other upgrade) on one of these old bikes then having it fire up and run.

      I really struggled with the bike. I think I couldn't get the carbs balanced and throttle balanced etc. In the end I put a tr6 head on and a single carb. Bike ran beautifully in this form and I still have it

    Nice to hear the old Triumph running better,i had bikes with contact breakers and they were a real pain,i use barrier cream on my hands which i find better than the gloves

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A barrier cream? I'll have to look into that.
      Does it make them easier to clean?

    Definitely a vast improvement on ignition.
    The bmw boxer engines are similiar in leaking oil into the cylinder but they only do it on side stand.
    Does sound a lot happier & I bet it pulls/rides smoother.
    Amal carbs next & then it will be a british pocket rocket.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes this does it on the side stand aswell. John's considering buying a new center stand for it.
      The amals are on it now. It runs well but it's hard to get it tuned and balanced well.
      It starts and rides every time but has slight hesitation at low throttle still.

  • @rickconstant6106
    @rickconstant6106 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    With the Pazon system, as with the Boyer Bransden system, the ignition rotor timing should be set with the crank at the fully advanced position (38 degrees BTDC), not TDC. By sheer luck you have got it right, because the timing mark on the alternator rotor is the firing mark, not TDC as you thought.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No way, that's interesting.
      So should it be tuned more finely now with a strobe light?
      Thanks for the advice Rick. I really don't know much about older bikes sadly.
      We're still fighting the carbs at the moment but I believe that they are close to working and I need new throttle cables.

    • @rickconstant6106
      @rickconstant6106 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@motorcyclerescuer yes, it's best to check final timing with a strobe, then you can forget about it (it will probably be a messy process with that type of chaincase, because the oil will be flung everywhere. In my experience with those mk 1 Amals, you won't get them to idle reliably straight from cold unless you turn the idle speed up, in which case it's too fast once it's up to temperature, so don't waste time trying to achieve a cold idle - once you've ridden it for a few minutes, it should be warm enough to idle. I never use choke on mine, in fact I removed it a few years ago. From cold, all it needs is a tickle, then it should start first kick and will pull cleanly straight away.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its only got the tickle pumps on these, no choke.
      Thanks for all the advice Rick, it's very helpful.
      The throttle cables currently don't have the hats on the end so are sitting high. I'll get the originals soon.

    • @RyRch
      @RyRch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate. Is that mark TDC or 38d before TDC? I know an old boy who said it’s TDC but modern electronic ignition are adjusted for 38d BTDC. To complicate things, my TR6 has two marks present 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @rickconstant6106
      @rickconstant6106 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RyRch It sounds like you have both a full advance mark and a TDC mark, if they are 38 degrees apart, in which case the full advance mark will be the first one to reach the pointer when rotated in the normal direction. An easy way to be sure is to take both plugs out and insert a screwdriver, as vertically as possible, in the left plug hole, then slowly turn the engine until the screwdriver reaches its highest point. That should tell you which mark is TDC.

    great vid Charlie (including a rare sighting of the lesser spotted Sultan), brilliant bike that Triumph - though I don't think I could ride one with the gear change on the right - did John at the end forget just how crap all round drums are or did he try and brake with the gear lever? I think he freaked out the Micra driver!

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it takes some getting used to with the reverse gearing and levers. The rear brake is very sharp which is good, the front not so much. But it's a 50 year old bike so sell good for its age.

    Hi kickstart don’t work Either I toke the spark plug wire out and then I try to start it just to see if it made the same noise and it did can it be the spark plug and can you start a moped without spark plug

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would need a spark plug to start. Ideally you could check to see if the plug is sparking when you try to start the bike
