    About Homestead Homemaker:
    Hi! I'm Lindsey, a wife and mother to two sweet and crazy kiddos. I homeschool the kids, grow a garden or two, take care of my goats, chickens, dogs and a cat, and lately I've been working on finishing up building our house. That's right, my husband and I built our 576 sqft house with our own hands and it is nearly done…for now. We'd love to have you join us on our journey of a life lived simply.

    The big green worms are horn worms, and if you get a black light and hunt them after dark they glow. I keep mine clear with the black light it works great! I also make a spray out of finely blended Jalapenos and strain it into a spray bottle of water with a teaspoon of dawn dish soap and spray my plants, it seems to help with a lot of the bugs.

    It's hot here in Georgia, too. My spinach bolted before it got big enough to pick, and my squash and cucumbers are failing, too. Don't know if it was bugs or wilt that got them.

    Hi Lindsay 😁
    Man you need a tree trimming company as a source for free mulch!
    You are battling squash bugs and I’m battling roly polys 🙄
    Your garden is looking great!! I have been planting late, but I have a long growing season, here in SoCal. I planted a bunch of old onions (just to see what happens) and some purple asparagus also to see what happens.
    As I wrote on a comment somewhere on this thread, I’m going to send you some succulent cuttings. All you have to do is stick them in dirt and they will grow...so easy!!! Can you get boxes at the address you have listed in the description? I’ll have to send a bit of everything I have around here. I’ll have to research a few names, as I have propagated many from mother plants myself 😁
    I 💕💕💕 how excited Ollie gets about his garden 🥰🥰🥰

      I will have to call around and ask about mulch. The place I found is around $300 before delivery.😳 Yes! We can get boxes there and I check it regularly. I LOVE succulents!

    Pepper heat is 100% genetic. So you can plant a sweet pepper and a hot pepper next to each other in the exact same hole and the sweet peppers plant will only ever put off sweet peppers. This is important to consider because if you get a pack of jalapeno's (or any other pepper) that aren't stabilized genetics what will happen is each plant will be a little more or less hot. Hard to judge how many peppers when some are scorching hot and others barely tingle.
    Saving Seed is the only time you need to worry about planting different pepper plants near each other. Genetic wise heat beats sweet so if you save seed over several generations it's easy to lose all your sweet peppers and only have peppers of vary heat levels if you don't take steps to prevent cross pollination.

    • @HomesteadHomemaker
      @HomesteadHomemaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the info! I do seed save, so I'll have to keep and eye on them and see how they do next year. If theyrr too hot ill just have to start over.🤣

    We are in grow season 4, just had a cold weekend again with a drop to 50. Great sleeping weather, my garden needs a little more heat. Lettuce is ready, we have lots of tomato flowers, and some peppers, flowers just starting on the peas. I have raised garden beds lots of raspberries coming, planning to make some jelly, made strawberry jam a couple of days ago. I have lavender growing at the side of my house and it’s just beautiful right now. Your garden is quite ahead of mine. Our fridge died and the new one is coming on Thursday can’t wait. Jay when is the next song.

    Hi, when I started my raised garden beds I munched but the problem is the mulch on the walkways composted down and the weeds grow in the mulch,this time I am not mulching the walkways.

    • @HomesteadHomemaker
      @HomesteadHomemaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you put weed barrier down first? I did that in my greenhouse and I dont have weeds going in there but I have a good 3-4 inches of mulch.

    • @lesleyharris525
      @lesleyharris525 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello I heard you mention about using peppermint spray in your garden to control some bugs in your garden. Do you have a recipe for it. I'm only growing a few tomatoes and a row of corn. I started a little late in planting my garden this year and we're getting a lot of rain this year

    • @HomesteadHomemaker
      @HomesteadHomemaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just put 10-12 drops of peppermint essential oil in a spray bottle with 1/2 -1 cup of water and shake it up. Focus on spraying the base of the plant and only apply evenings so you don't burn them
