    In this Affinity Photo tutorial I'll show you how you can change the composition of a photo WITHOUT cropping. For this we are using the Selection Brush Tool, and the inpainting function. Keep in mind that this trick is only possible in photos where the background isn't too detailed!

    Rens, Many thanks for replicating the effect in such a clear way, it does help to show the menus to select the actions from. I use many editing programs and some shortcuts have different meanings and I struggle to recall all of them. Have checked, Affinity photo does not use (yet) any AI like photoshop does, that is why this technique is very useful. Downloaded the image file, and followed your precise and clear instructions, not too fast was good for me. It worked fine , the result was perfect. This comes as close as generative fill in photoshop for me. If affinity is not going to adapt or adopt AI they may lose a few users. The secret being a soft defined background is key to succes, hope affinity will improve their algorithms. Thanks again, a great tutorial , masterclass !
    PS my challenge photo is on its way, was fun to play with the photos you gave us to work with. Kind regards Robert

      Hey Robert! I’m glad you were able to follow the tutorial this time! Honestly, I also struggle with keyboard shortcuts when switching softwares. Very confusing sometimes haha. I don’t think Affinity will develop generative fill. However, things like subject selection and content aware crop, would be an absolute game changer! Looking forward to seeing your TPEC submission! Have a nice one, Robert! And keep creating 🔥

    Thank you - I didn't know there was a fill tool like that for inpainting

      You’re welcome, Catalia! 😊 Yes, you could also use the inpainting brush tool. But this is a lot quicker and probably more accurate too in this case

    Thank you. I usually just use the inpaint brush but this is great to know.

      The great thing about this method is that you can carefully make a selection first, instead of brushing. Which makes it a more accurate choice I think in this scenario 🙌

    Good job.
    Now inpainting works with AI much better and it is easy to combine both methods with Stable Diffusion and Affinity Photo.
    Thanks

      Interesting! I honestly have never used Stable Diffusion. Somehow I am still not really into AI thing. Is it at least free? 😅

      @RSV9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@IAMRENSI Yes, it is free and easy to use. It can be easily installed on the computer and especially if you have an Nvidia graphics card, it works relatively fast. It is a good combination with AP, especially if you want to make composites. The best known UIs are A1111 and Fooocus. You should try it

    Ive seen a few of your vids and they are great so thank you for these. I have a question about affinity photo. I want to dump ADOBE. I use photoshop primarily for real estate photography and I need to make sure that AFFINITY will allow me to edit layers and merging them just like in photoshop..
    Thank you and I await for your response.

      You’re welcome! Glad to hear you enjoy my tutorials. As long as you don’t need AI / generative fill you should be fine. The workflow is a little different, but Affinity is fairly similar to older versions of Ps without all the bells and whistles. It’s very capable if you have the right skills. Hope this helps in your decision making 👊🏼

    After many years with Photoshop, I'm finding Affinity Photo 2.5 quite difficult to work with. I will persist but little things like masking & generative fill are much easier in Photoshop and appear to work much better. Time will tell, I hope I'm wrong because I don't want to go back to Adobe's subscription model.

    Very useful, Thank you, but would be easier to follow without the zooming around the screen, and the inset of the presenter is a distraction
