    Sorin, you should have put brand and model number in title "HP Pavilion 14-CE". If someone is having this same problem, Not booting, no picture, it gives them a better chance of finding your video. Increasing your views and subscribers. So often we find the same problems over and over. Just like a broken belt on a vacuum cleaner, look for locked up bearings on beater/brush bar.

    I agree here, I had exactly the same problem with this laptop. Only re-soldering didn't help for me, I had to replace the entire socket. But I'm actually afraid of how many of these laptops end up needlessly in the trash.

    I ALWAYS enjoy your videos. Would love to meet you and say hey some time. I just had an HP 15-DY come in and it was the same problem, but the screen was flickering instead of being completely out. This model has 2 RAM Slots. I had to go accross all of the pins with my iron and it fixed the issue. I tested each pin and they would not move, but you could tell that the solder points were scetchy. The pins were not even loose this time. Just resoldering with a solid connection did the trick.

      The same thing happened to me and i didn't know what's causing the flickering, but i assume the RAM or the RAM socket is the problem

    Sorin, regarding the HDMI subject, you can test even without windows loaded. First disconnect the LCD connector. The graphics card will detect that there's no internal display and tries to output to HDMI. If you have an HDMI cable connected to a tv or capture card, it will display even without windows loaded. Nice work

    Oh my god!! I can't believe it! Because it wasn't giving me any POST codes, I thought it might be booting up with no picture so I checked the CAPS LOCK and saw that it wasn't turning on. I even swapped the RAM out thinking the chip was faulty. So I was in the right neighbourhood but I never considered the socket pins could have come off like that! Thank you very much!

    This really looked like a BIOS issue to me at the beginning. Maybe the experience with this exact model of laptop was key on diagnosing the issue here. I wouldn't have found it so quickly.

    • @carlosgarciaoropeza5480
      @carlosgarciaoropeza5480 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @viniciusvb22: Yeah. I also thought that the fault was the SpiFlash memory and I would have put a new one in without programming it at startup and recording it later without hesitation if the fault continued. All the best.

    When confronted with this type of problem, the first thing I do is reseat the memory. That fixes it 25% of the time. the next thing is plug in an HDMI to a monitor. If it's getting a picture, you know it's a bad screen or video cable. If neither, then I get the v/o meter out.

    Hello Sarin. I have two laptops hp zbook studio x360 g5 The both have same problem. Most of the time, but not always, when I connect the charger, the system makes a lot of noise, to the extent that the touchpad stops working, and sometimes the touch screen LEDs turn on intermittently.This happened so many times that a little shadow of the LEDs remained on the LCD. I tried with another charger, but it still has the same problem. Finally, I concluded that the problem is with the charging circuit on the motherboard.I am from another country, so I can't send it to you, and the repairman couldn't find the problem either. I wanted to see if you have experience with this laptop model and this problem?Even the schematic of the laptop is not available and I did not find anything about it through searching. Thank you for your guidance.

    • @retrocomputinggrotto
      @retrocomputinggrotto ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think it matters which way around you test so it just so happened Sorin picked up the red probe first - 50% change he could have used the black one!

      @emmanuelvalmas5468: A while ago I read an answer: If the DMM is placed in the diode test function and the positive (+) test lead is brought to a ground point (GND) on the PCB, the current supplied by the internal battery voltage of the meter is reduced to the minimum necessary for proper functioning of the selected range.
      He received a lot of criticism. Another way of saying it: I don't know the answer with certainty, however, it collides with what they taught me in technical school for the diode test function. So for me it is a "conventionalism" that is left to personal discretion whether to use it or NOT.
      The following is a certainty: For the continuity function, the polarity of the test terminals in their placement on the PCB is not important. All the best.
