Okay, so day 15/16 were mostly Jennifer McCabe cross-examination, and holy crap is there a lot to say about this one. We may be going late on this one. More witnesses to come, too.
She trusts every, single record that the defense provided. Call logs, she needed to look at, cause she trusted them, her grand jury testimony, trusted it, agreed with the celebrite data, until, it wasn't in agreement with her "crystal, clear memory" the test paper can fill in the blanks and be trusted for those things. But not if it disagrees with her preferred narrative. Absolutely bonkers
After seeing Kerry Roberts testify, I felt so cranky with Jenn McCabe for the way she represented Kerry Roberts to the court. She clearly over exaggerated & also took ownership of things that Kerry Roberts was actually the one to do or say/request. She also mimicked Kerry Roberts, and referred to her as an over-talker... so was basically insulting to another witness as well as to Karen Read. Personally, Kerry Roberts came across as genuine and sincere, and was clearly genuinely upset about John's passing - Kerry Robert's emotion on the stand is the most genuine we've seen all trial.
I hope when this is over Kerry watches Jenn's testimony. She should know who her real friends are. Over talker, yeah, the only one who can just give a straight yes or no answer. I'm really unsure how Jenn thought she was doing herself or anyone else a favor sharing the gossip.
Except one type of flower. Then there's a second rule that they can only be cultivated in yards with the maximum of some feature that means only her yard can have them.
Actually, I was thinking it's that she cannot STAND not being in control. Obviously watching the trial and feeling indignant about Jackson's "audacity" to prove her a liar. AND she's justified herself as a victim because of some online comments. She sucks!
Also: “Absolutely not!” “I never deleted ANY texts.” Later: “the officer allowed me to delete personal text to my daughter before handing over my phone.”
The thing that bothered me the most about Jen’s testimony is that she kept asking to look at her past testimony and statements. To me as a juror that would tell me that she has lots of versions of her story and she’s trying to figure out which version she said that time. Maybe I’m naive here but if you just tell the truth, your story shouldn’t vary that much..
Jen McCabe put the nail in the coffin (no pun intended) to the Commonwealth's case. 100% reasonable doubt. Love how when Alan Jackson asked the Judge if he could approach and Jen said "yes". Jen thinks she is controlling the court room.
I'd argue that her saying "yes" as to if the attorney can approach says a lot about her character. Not that she's controlling the _courtroom,_ but that she's used to being the one _always_ in control of *_everything._* She says jump, you don't even ask "how high," you just jump because you aren't allowed to question her, even innocently/for confirmation.
"I use tracking software", "I try to control the narrative", "I let my kids rifle through my private text conversations". [characterisations of testimony] "One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn't the same..."
Reading my parents texts is the last thing I ever wanted to or actually did as a child. I spent most of my time preventing my mother from reading my texts, not the opposite. Such a pathetic excuse.
Ones in a while I help my mum with her phone and I still don’t look at her texts at my middle age. And I’d not let my children if I had any see my messages . No one touched her phone she’s lying

@RunkleOfTheBailey - When chat was saying you skipped the best part, they meant the part about when Jen suddenly came up with the "I hit him" story. At the start of re-cross, Jackson gets Jen to confirm that, in April 2023, there were public hearings about her cellbrite extraction and the "Hos long to die in cold" search on 1/29/22 @2:27am. That's when all the harassment began, as the public was outraged to learn that she had allowed John to die in the cold. Only then, 2 months later, in June 2023, did Jen claim Karen said, "I hit him, I hit him, I hit him" for the 1st time - in order to redirect the public's finger-pointing!
Maybe he could do a quick video just showing the recross. I'm sure a lot of people here would be interested in seeing that. Or just shout out the timestamp in EDB's coverage lol
Mrs. McCabe's already decided that Karen is guilty, even though all she should do is give her honest account as a witness. She thinks she's part of the prosecution team because she played detective "trying to figure out what happened to John". IMO, Trooper Proctor took her spin of the story and ran with it and she felt validated by that and then they just reinforced each other's idea of what happened.
I’m kind of thinking a lot of them didn’t like KR or say her as an “easy out” as to what happened. But I don’t know if we will ever really know. I think your theory is very plausible. This whole thing is wild.
@@psychologynerd0423 it doesn't even have to be a dislike towards KR, it already suffices that she's not "part of the circle" and not a cop like Brian Higgins. Let's look at it from a perspective of vested interest - the Alberts and McCabes wouldn't want someone of their family to be a suspect, because in the community of this small town it would reflect back negatively upon them (I have more thoughts on this but it's all even more speculative). Brian Albert and Brian Higgins wouldn't want each other to be a suspect, because it would reflect negatively upon their status as cops in this community. And when the first reflex is to look away from any friend or loved one that could possibly be implicated...

And this is what makes it frustrating that she puts her kids out as a shield. "You can't come for me, look what you've done to my children because I'm trying to be helpful!" If you want to be a police investigator, you're gonna have to accept the risk of the job, which she doesn't want.
If she texted and got up five times to see why he hadn’t come inside why didn’t she step outside to see what was taking so long? I would definitely have checked.
When the comment was made earlier in the trial where Karen told someone - if you knew Jen M you'd know she isn't my friend " makes sooooooooo much sense now. What a nightmare of a human! She really seems proud of herself for being so difficult on the stand!
IT professional here. There are DIFFERENT spelling mistakes in each of the 3 "how long to die in the cold'' searches. It tells me that each one was entered manually. I believe that she googled it at 2:27am, 6:23am and 6:24am. Also, they don't delete themselves. The 2:23 search was deleted. Either Jen deleted it or someone who was ‘cleansing’ her phone did it manually. I wonder if the 'delete' action was date/time stamped too.
People keep saying the time is when the tab was opened. If I buy that it doesn't make sense for it to be deleted when she says she made the other searches in that same tab.... wouldn't all 3 say that then? It doesn't delete just because you close the tab. It doesn't track
My friend and I were in a car accident where the other car was at fault. My friend who was driving her car said her insurance was going to call and talk to me. She told me to tell them what happened. That was literally our whole discussion about it. Tell them what happened. There was no need to co-remember and get our stories in sync. Albeit no one was injured or died, but still. This is ridiculous. This lady is a real piece of work and this whole case is wild!
So she saw little tire tracks and was able to see them because she was looking at KR car, but in all the times she looked outside she was never able to see a whole body because she wasnt looking specifically at the spot where the body was laying? She contradicts herself all over the place.
Jen McCabe seems like more or a "Karen" than Karen does.. according to the testimony we've seen so far. I mean, yes Karen Read had a jealousy attack in Aruba but she had the balls to go and apologise after calming down (Yes that sometimes takes a day or two) and whoever talks about "but she tried to buy forgiveness with money" yeah no... People please remember: Giving gifts or buying stuff can be a love language. Some people feel good when buying stuff for others and hope to make those others feel good by getting those gifts. And we don't know Karen's background growing up. It might be that a family member acted like that, too. (Like the father buying flowers or something as an apology when her mom was mad at him, e.g.) If nothing else, Karen seems to be quite generous to me. I don't see Jen McCabe sincerely apologising ever... Her testimony feels like "if it doesn't go like I want, it won't go at all" to me.
The impression I've gotten of Karen Read from the testimony is that she's socially awkward. There's been testimony from multiple people of her seemingly attempting to buy acceptance, love, friendship, relationships by spending money, and I think it's because she has experience with so-called friends whose "friendship" is conditional on what she can do for them and especially what money she can spend on them. That trauma even bled into her relationships with the kids as she attempted to bond with them by spending money on Dunkin Donuts and expensive clothes and going with the niece to get their nails done. John understood it as spoiling the kids, and Karen perhaps didn't understand how she could be worthy of their love if she didn't spend money on them.
I didnt see anything wrong with KR offering to pay for the room, she was trying to make it better she clearly felt badly about it. I think that is better than these other people who cant even gather when they messed up. None of these ppl liked KR it seemed, and besides Kerry I dont think any of these ppl testified really cared about JOK.
@@annm9589 yeah that's what I mean. But I saw some people (at least in Emily's chat) who mentioned "KR wanted to buy that forgiveness" and such. And I don't say Karen is a saint (John probably wasn't either but that's just normal people) but she at least owned up to it or tried to.
I'm confused as to why the lady from Aruba gets to say John said Karen is crazy.... this leads to anyone that spoke to someone that dies gets to say "well they told me so and so is homicidal" why do they get to do that?

I think Runkle also missed an important part of Kerry Roberts testimony. Actually it was Jen who suggested 34 Fairview and then all of them agreed to go to fairview. It wasnt Karen who wanted to go to fairview cause she allegedly knew about John.
Yes that also stuck out to me. Especially because Jen said it with so much venom and contempt. She literally snarled that Karen wanted to go to Fairview because she knew that’s where she left Jon. I feel validated, that Jen is a lying liar who lies
It really feels like they all know what happened except Ms Roberts and Karen Reed. The stuff about the daughter driving around all night, the placement of the jeep, the missed phone calls, no one going outside, and the group texts make it look like someone in the family caused John’s demise either by accident or on purpose. At this point as a juror I have a boatload of reasonable doubt.
I also think the play fighting is a thing. I know guys that used to box. They get drunk and bare knuckle box now. It would be easy for an accident to happen or someone to get angry. Maybe they were just drunk boxing and the dog freaked. It seems they're all covering

If John never went in the house, why would you have to tell someone to say he never went in the house? If you're such good friends, why do you refer to John as the body? The amount of butt dials, adulty time calls, spontaneous deletions, done by ghosts, reports allegedly missing information, calls that were answered that allegedly weren't answered, etc.... indicates to me that this group of horrible humans really believe everyone else is stupid and will buy what they are selling. I can't imagine how alone Karen had to have felt all of the time. John's friends, including the Aruba trip, didn't include her. It's one area I disagree with EDB. She calls them protective of John. I would use different adjectives.
Karen was smart, resilient, positive despite multiple health challenges, was independent, fiscally sound, on a dynamic career path and actively involved in the day to day raising of another's children. Everyone has flaws ....Karen's was pleasing and accepting people who actually had malice and hate hidden behind their smiles!
I’ve stopped watching EDB’s live streams bc there are so many people in live stream. I feel Emily is being more “careful” about what she says bc of all the opinions of 30k people in her chat. I don’t blame her, people can be real sensitive, but it’s just too much appeasing the chat for me.
I know Jackson slipped up and got the order of the "I love it" text a bit wrong.. but that doesn't even matter to me. Their "friend" had died and yet they were RIVETED about all this so-called gossip about the relationship that they weren't even part of and really don't even know the truth about? That alone is suspicious to me!
CR 's testimony was probably the most important one in this trial. Yet JM's testimony right before her being so firey made me mentally rest at CR, so I'm remembering more of JM being weird than the details of CR. She should have come before Jen for sure. In fact I can't understand why any of the Mccabe/alberts were called by prosecution, they'd have an easier time without them. All that group did was foster negativity and make me think that these people would do a conspiracy/coverup if given chance.
I agree CR’s testimony has been the most important yet. But I was the opposite of you, having JM run around in circles before hilighted how easy CR was to follow and listen to so I listened closer to her. So interesting how different people view things!

After seeing Jen McCabe testify, I think Chloe the German Shepard is getting a bad rap. I think John O’Keefe’s shirt needs to be tested for Jen’s DNA. Jen doesn’t seem to do well with people either and she certainly hasn’t spoken well about anyone. Karen was hysterical and screaming, Jen’s husband rambles on and on, and Carrie talks non-stop and kept yelling at Karen to shut up, and also horrified Jen when she told an awful story to the Police. Think of the three bears story. Jen does everything juuuusst right. Not believing a damn thing she says.
She thinks she is "mama bear" bravely protecting her family clan from facing consequences. She doesnt understand how evil it is to frame an innocent person

I thought it was odd and kind of sick that she cozied up to John’s mother after the fact. She is obviously a busy body and had her hands alone with her IT husband and police officer family to cover up SOMETHING. We don’t know what but this trial so far has given a very good idea.
It makes me feel gross when lally tries to diminish and normalize the wrongs of this family. All their own drinking and driving, underage drinking, it’s gross. Trying to normalize her behavior is gross
After a trial I was a jury member for, I spoke to some of the lawyers after and told them that honest people don’t have to say “I’m an honest person” and that that was a flag when their client said that.
Furthermore Kerry Roberts did nothing but testify to events and basically helped Karen Read by obviously empathetic to her shock and hysteria/grief of what happened to John! I believe once Kerry finds out how JM testified then she'll immediately disassociate from that B and her toxicity!

The M.E. said he was missing 3 pints of blood. Where was it? There is a witness who told someone what happened to John in that house, in the basement. The same basement where the Alberts ripped out & replaced the flooring right after John died. The same basement that would explain the flights of stairs John's Apple Health Data show he climbed & decended just before he passed. Pretty sure there aren't any stairs in the front yard.....
I have come into this with no prior knowledge. I had expected to hear from eother an ME or Coroner by now. The fact we haven't is telling. When are they going to get to the medical and IT experts!!! But if what you say comes in, then how have they even brought charges???

Jen did more to sway my view than anyone so far, and she pushed me fully towards the defenses side. The way she flip flopped and dodged. The way she did exactly as the defense accused her of acting, ie trying to be controlling. The fact that this was her friend who died and she only showed any emotion when talking about what she has been through. She even admitted to getting her story straight with other witnesses. And she more than anyone said she saw tire marks that should have been pointing like an arrow to a body and she saw nothing. Then the common wealth built up Kerry like she would rip the defenses story wide open, and she dismantled what Jen said. So much so that the defense didn't even cross And to cap the day off, the dramatic Aruba story was, "Gf gets mad at bf drunk hugging another woman." That would be a nothing burger in a city bar, it's even more understandable on a trip. No one wants to find out their significant other is cheating on them on vacation when you're stuck with them. And if she had ever been cheated on before she would have even more reason to react.
And while the mathematicians are helping you, let the Grim Reapers help me about either the ghosts picking and deleting calls this in this “circle.” And the magical dog trainer who kept a German shepherd quiet .
I hope the defense brings in an MS expert too. My husband has MS and he overreact, is extremely emotional, can’t control is grief at times and hyper focuses on things. It’s uncontrollable for him, as much as he tries in stressful situations he loses it. I could absolutely see that in Karen. It depends on where the lesions are as to how it affects the brain. This may explain why she was so frantic, besides the overwhelming fear of not know where John was, then seeing him in the state they found him. Honestly I’m surprised she did not end up with an exacerbation leading to hospitalization, not the psych hold. This entire trial baffles me, how much longer until there is actual evidence of the crime she is accused of? So far it’s just a group of mean girl gossip over someone they obviously did not want dating their “friend”. Although, it only seems as though there were two true friends on the stand so far.
I fell asleep watching the first time and I rewatched JUST to see Runkle react to the beginning of re-cross. Specifically, when Jackson pointed out that the first record of Jen claiming Karen said "I hit him" was 2 months AFTER the harassment started. He also pointed out that the harassment only started after the 2am google search was publicized. And then Runkle skipped right past it! The audacity.
I'm someone who regularly deletes stuff from my devices, but even I know, if I have to call 911 for a dead cop, I probably shouldn't delete anything until/unless my phone is cleared by authorities.
So.. the McAlberts always say "Absolutely not!" when it's something fishy, something about the cover up the defense suggests or something in that direction. It seems, to me, like they always say "Absolutely not!" when they actually absolutely did what was suggested.
Whell, she bought a meal before the incident in Aruba, then she saw what she saw (I still don't know if nothing happened as John was glass-eyed drunk). Bur for me Karen acted understandably, when a bit drunk, seeing your man embracing other woman, but after getting the explanation, she apologised.
Absolutely love your analysis, commentary and humour!...much love and respect from Northwestern Ontario, Canada❤. I've been intensely following this case for two years, doing a deep dive, reviewing all the public documents and watching every hearing and trial day. I believe Karen Read is factually innocent and will be acquitted. I hope that Officer John O'Keefe can receive justice and that the ongoing Federal investigation into the investigation of his death will bring charges against those who murdered him.

So in police questioning she can actually just answer what she is asked but on the stand under penalty of perjury she cant give a straight answer to save her life? A man died, literally a man lost his life and Jenny here is adamant on playing this game of I wasnt specifically asked about such and such but I insist on give exposition and narrative on every answer Mr. Jackson can successfully pull out of me. She is disgusting. When she keeps spouting on about being harassed and how she is being tortured by the public all I could think was how do you think Karen Read feels having been drug through the mud because of you and your cohorts claims that she killed a man? Claims that as of this point seem faker than an AI bot and that having mean things said to and about you isnt torture, officer John O'Keefe was found appearing to have been beaten and have marks that strangely resemble animal claws on his arm. That Mrs. McCabe is torture. Also her saying I will never forget her saying I hit him, I hit him, I hit him while having not mentioned it 12 times before is ridiculous. She strikes me as the kind of person that would lie on a server to get a free meal not caring that it could cost that server their job as long as she got her way.
Absolutely!!!... I automatically thought the same EXACT thing!! I believe her brother in law, Brian Albert DID. Let's remember the Albert's & the McCabe's were all left ALONE in that house to go over their story. Brian Albert knows EXACTLY what to do during an investigation and he used that to his advantage to start covering up their tracks. Whatever happened in that house, those are DEFINITELY dog bites on his arm. Nicole Albert Testified that she knows where Chloe is (Vermont)... So, go there & get a damn sample of her DNA and prove it once and for all!!! Jen McCabe is a rotten human being and they ALL deserve to be harassed for their lies. She COULD NOT answer 1 question directly. She deflected every which way. The judge let this go on for 3 days. Shame on her that she didn't say - "just answer the question Mrs. McCabe". Mr. Jackson did an awesome cross though.
Struggling to see how the prosecution decided to call her. I understand they probably originally believed she was an important witness but surely they’ve talked to her for more than a few seconds and are able to recognize that she is going to kill their case? Each day of this trial convinces me more and more that Lally is purposely throwing the case
They called her because she's a witness central to their case, and having the defense call them first would make them look far worse. They were forced to prosecute by the CW, and the Judge declined motions for extensions of both defense and prosecution to get to trial. So the best thing for the prosecution is to not look like they're hiding anything, and to attempt to get in front of the bad demeanor and inconsistencies of this central witness.
@@Singingfan57 to be fair, they're not forced. They by all means should, since failing to do so means the entire case could get thrown out for reasonable doubt, but they're not legally obligated by the court. And as commentors have loved reminding people, the Judge allegedly made a snide remark to the defense pre-trial of "but what if the prosecution doesn't call Proctor, what'll you do then?". So if we were to believe that, then the Judge probably wouldn't throw it out on those basis, so they'd have more leeway not to call him.

The thing she does where she wields the harassment she's received like a shield against uncomfortable questions reminds me of every TH-camr "apology"/drama response ever, where they give a halfhearted "I'm sorry if you felt hurt, I was in a bad headspace, etc. etc." before launching into a rant about how everyone watching or wanting accountability is actually evil because some people sent death threats. Yeah, we know harassment is awful, that's common sense to anyone with half a brain, but being on the receiving end of it is not also a "get out of jail free" card you can wave around whenever someone asks a question you don't want to answer. You're not the one whose son or brother was left to die alone in the cold -- you haven't even shed a single tear for him, despite John O'Keefe being the real focus of this trial, but you're more than happy to show the world how upset you are about how YOU are affected. Officer O'Keefe's family is in the room, watching, and you want to make it all about you? Give me a break.
This is how I imagine my stepmother (who has NPD like traits) would testify lmfao. I’m amazed that the lawyer didn’t just snap during this cross. I think I would’ve seriously contemplated defenestration of myself or Jen if I was in his position.
I know someone like this and they’re so heck-bent on always being right that, in the end, they wind up arguing in circles and contradicting themselves. That, on top of lying, makes it hard to keep their story straight.
We had an old lady in my street when I was really little. She had a big mastiff as a dog and that dog was so lazy she always had to have a bone in her pocket when talking him for a walk xD That dog was the nicest dog to ever dog but the instant someone came to that house you heard his bark and he had a loud bark, as a reminder to not do something fishy. He also loved her old red VW Beetle and the few times my dad took that beetle to repair something (he's a car mechanik) he was the absolute evil to that dog. (No biting but he made it very clear that taking the car was not welcome) But my dad was his best friend when he brought the car back xD
That reminds me of being on a Teams meeting when someone's dog started losing it at a passerby. I said, hey, at least you've got a good protector, and she said no, I've got a good barker, she'd want to be friends with whatever stranger it was. But the point is, even her almost pathologically friendly dog would bark at the unusual. Then mayyyybe snuggle the unusual, but only after alerting.
If you made a tumbler that was reminiscent of an evidence collection container and put "Official Evidence Collection Container" then you can put "of Canton, MA" or "Runkle of the Bailey" or you just branded it I would buy that so fucking fast.
The sad thing is I'm starting to see the story Defense is telling us. From what I can piece together from only watching the trial, they think that John did go to that party, maybe Karen left him at the waterfall and he found his way to their house. Someone got into it with him at the party, maybe Colin, maybe the two Brian's. I'm not sure. Chloe the dog definitely got involved and attacked his arm. Maybe he got knocked out cold in their house. If any of that is true, I'm so angry at these people. But the Commonwealth has given me no reason to disbelieve the Defense at all.
And the head gash could be caused by a shove/fall into basement exercise equip., their dropping JO against the utility box, or the edge of the scoop? The basement flooring was lifted for some reason. I doubt it was a water leak, b unless that "leak" was from a hose being used to wash away certain fluids. The lack of investigation is a disgrace.

I would be a terrible juror. I have no poker face. I'd be wincing and frowning at this horrible woman. The judge is a nightmare and she should be ashamed of herself. I honestly hope she has no peace over her behavior and choices from this case. She should have been removed. I think judges deserve protection and care, but at the same time, there should be some kind of system for giving them feedback on their behavior up to removing and prosecuting them. There are other careers where people hold others' lives in their hands and they know they'll be open to legal prosecution if they step out of line. I think judges should experience the same scrutiny.
Okay Runkle…. So I was thinking about the storm door, Jen seeing the car and tracks. Well last night I had my front door open & a storm door (all glass) there. With my lights on in my house I CANNOT see my street (it’s maybe 10 yards from my door) I just see my reflection until I basically put my face against the glass. Were the lights not on inside?

Not just keeping the screen open for hours to hold that "time" - BUT the search being deleted says more to me! Because even IF the time was "off" there would be no reason to delete it and ONLY it. I expect the experts to explain this. If I was a juror this would be on my mind right now.
All of the searches were spelled, or misspelled rather, slightly differently from one another which indicates they were all individual and separate searches to me!

Jacksons point regarding the results for these searches would be the same, even with the misspellings, also makes a strong case that the searches after 6am were to cover up the original search at 2:27am. (not well of course!)

Call logs, she needed to look at, cause she trusted them, her grand jury testimony, trusted it, agreed with the celebrite data, until, it wasn't in agreement with her "crystal, clear memory" the test paper can fill in the blanks and be trusted for those things. After seeing Kerry Roberts testify, I felt so cranky with Jenn McCabe for the way she represented Kerry Roberts to the court. She clearly over exaggerated & also took ownership of things that Kerry Roberts was actually the one to do or say/request. She also mimicked Kerry Roberts, and referred to her as an over-talker... so was basically insulting to another witness as well as to Karen Read. Personally, Kerry Roberts came across as genuine and sincere, and was clearly genuinely upset about John's passing - Kerry Robert's emotion on the stand is the most genuine we've seen all trial.
JM is an actual friend to no one.

The thing that bothered me the most about Jen’s testimony is that she kept asking to look at her past testimony and statements. To me as a juror that would tell me that she has lots of versions of her story and she’s trying to figure out which version she said that time.
Maybe I’m naive here but if you just tell the truth, your story shouldn’t vary that much..
Jen McCabe put the nail in the coffin (no pun intended) to the Commonwealth's case. 100% reasonable doubt. Love how when Alan Jackson asked the Judge if he could approach and Jen said "yes". Jen thinks she is controlling the court room.
And Kerry cemented the Commonwealth case 100%.
I'd argue that her saying "yes" as to if the attorney can approach says a lot about her character. Not that she's controlling the _courtroom,_ but that she's used to being the one _always_ in control of *_everything._* She says jump, you don't even ask "how high," you just jump because you aren't allowed to question her, even innocently/for confirmation.

At the start of re-cross, Jackson gets Jen to confirm that, in April 2023, there were public hearings about her cellbrite extraction and the "Hos long to die in cold" search on 1/29/22 @2:27am. That's when all the harassment began, as the public was outraged to learn that she had allowed John to die in the cold.
Only then, 2 months later, in June 2023, did Jen claim Karen said, "I hit him, I hit him, I hit him" for the 1st time - in order to redirect the public's finger-pointing!

Mrs. McCabe's already decided that Karen is guilty, even though all she should do is give her honest account as a witness. She thinks she's part of the prosecution team because she played detective "trying to figure out what happened to John". IMO, Trooper Proctor took her spin of the story and ran with it and she felt validated by that and then they just reinforced each other's idea of what happened.
I’m kind of thinking a lot of them didn’t like KR or say her as an “easy out” as to what happened. But I don’t know if we will ever really know. I think your theory is very plausible. This whole thing is wild.

Let's look at it from a perspective of vested interest - the Alberts and McCabes wouldn't want someone of their family to be a suspect, because in the community of this small town it would reflect back negatively upon them (I have more thoughts on this but it's all even more speculative). Brian Albert and Brian Higgins wouldn't want each other to be a suspect, because it would reflect negatively upon their status as cops in this community. And when the first reflex is to look away from any friend or loved one that could possibly be implicated...

IT professional here. There are DIFFERENT spelling mistakes in each of the 3 "how long to die in the cold'' searches. It tells me that each one was entered manually. I believe that she googled it at 2:27am, 6:23am and 6:24am. Also, they don't delete themselves. The 2:23 search was deleted. Either Jen deleted it or someone who was ‘cleansing’ her phone did it manually. I wonder if the 'delete' action was date/time stamped too.
People keep saying the time is when the tab was opened. If I buy that it doesn't make sense for it to be deleted when she says she made the other searches in that same tab.... wouldn't all 3 say that then? It doesn't delete just because you close the tab. It doesn't track
My friend and I were in a car accident where the other car was at fault. My friend who was driving her car said her insurance was going to call and talk to me. She told me to tell them what happened. That was literally our whole discussion about it. Tell them what happened. There was no need to co-remember and get our stories in sync. Albeit no one was injured or died, but still. This is ridiculous. This lady is a real piece of work and this whole case is wild!
So she saw little tire tracks and was able to see them because she was looking at KR car, but in all the times she looked outside she was never able to see a whole body because she wasnt looking specifically at the spot where the body was laying? She contradicts herself all over the place.

Jen McCabe seems like more or a "Karen" than Karen does.. according to the testimony we've seen so far. I mean, yes Karen Read had a jealousy attack in Aruba but she had the balls to go and apologise after calming down (Yes that sometimes takes a day or two) and whoever talks about "but she tried to buy forgiveness with money" yeah no... People please remember: Giving gifts or buying stuff can be a love language. Some people feel good when buying stuff for others and hope to make those others feel good by getting those gifts. And we don't know Karen's background growing up. It might be that a family member acted like that, too. (Like the father buying flowers or something as an apology when her mom was mad at him, e.g.) If nothing else, Karen seems to be quite generous to me.
I don't see Jen McCabe sincerely apologising ever... Her testimony feels like "if it doesn't go like I want, it won't go at all" to me.
The impression I've gotten of Karen Read from the testimony is that she's socially awkward. There's been testimony from multiple people of her seemingly attempting to buy acceptance, love, friendship, relationships by spending money, and I think it's because she has experience with so-called friends whose "friendship" is conditional on what she can do for them and especially what money she can spend on them.
That trauma even bled into her relationships with the kids as she attempted to bond with them by spending money on Dunkin Donuts and expensive clothes and going with the niece to get their nails done. John understood it as spoiling the kids, and Karen perhaps didn't understand how she could be worthy of their love if she didn't spend money on them.
I didnt see anything wrong with KR offering to pay for the room, she was trying to make it better she clearly felt badly about it. I think that is better than these other people who cant even gather when they messed up. None of these ppl liked KR it seemed, and besides Kerry I dont think any of these ppl testified really cared about JOK.

It really feels like they all know what happened except Ms Roberts and Karen Reed. The stuff about the daughter driving around all night, the placement of the jeep, the missed phone calls, no one going outside, and the group texts make it look like someone in the family caused John’s demise either by accident or on purpose.

CR 's testimony was probably the most important one in this trial. Yet JM's testimony right before her being so firey made me mentally rest at CR, so I'm remembering more of JM being weird than the details of CR. She should have come before Jen for sure. In fact I can't understand why any of the Mccabe/alberts were called by prosecution, they'd have an easier time without them. All that group did was foster negativity and make me think that these people would do a conspiracy/coverup if given chance.

I have come into this with no prior knowledge. I had expected to hear from eother an ME or Coroner by now. The fact we haven't is telling. When are they going to get to the medical and IT experts!!!

Jen did more to sway my view than anyone so far, and she pushed me fully towards the defenses side. The way she flip flopped and dodged. The way she did exactly as the defense accused her of acting, ie trying to be controlling. The fact that this was her friend who died and she only showed any emotion when talking about what she has been through. She even admitted to getting her story straight with other witnesses. And she more than anyone said she saw tire marks that should have been pointing like an arrow to a body and she saw nothing.
Then the common wealth built up Kerry like she would rip the defenses story wide open, and she dismantled what Jen said. So much so that the defense didn't even cross
And to cap the day off, the dramatic Aruba story was, "Gf gets mad at bf drunk hugging another woman." That would be a nothing burger in a city bar, it's even more understandable on a trip. No one wants to find out their significant other is cheating on them on vacation when you're stuck with them. And if she had ever been cheated on before she would have even more reason to react.
And she apologized as soon as she sobered up

I hope the defense brings in an MS expert too. My husband has MS and he overreact, is extremely emotional, can’t control is grief at times and hyper focuses on things. It’s uncontrollable for him, as much as he tries in stressful situations he loses it. I could absolutely see that in Karen. It depends on where the lesions are as to how it affects the brain. This may explain why she was so frantic, besides the overwhelming fear of not know where John was, then seeing him in the state they found him. Honestly I’m surprised she did not end up with an exacerbation leading to hospitalization, not the psych hold. This entire trial baffles me, how much longer until there is actual evidence of the crime she is accused of? So far it’s just a group of mean girl gossip over someone they obviously did not want dating their “friend”. Although, it only seems as though there were two true friends on the stand so far.
I fell asleep watching the first time and I rewatched JUST to see Runkle react to the beginning of re-cross. Specifically, when Jackson pointed out that the first record of Jen claiming Karen said "I hit him" was 2 months AFTER the harassment started. He also pointed out that the harassment only started after the 2am google search was publicized. And then Runkle skipped right past it! The audacity.
I'm someone who regularly deletes stuff from my devices, but even I know, if I have to call 911 for a dead cop, I probably shouldn't delete anything until/unless my phone is cleared by authorities.
So.. the McAlberts always say "Absolutely not!" when it's something fishy, something about the cover up the defense suggests or something in that direction. It seems, to me, like they always say "Absolutely not!" when they actually absolutely did what was suggested.

I believe Karen Read is factually innocent and will be acquitted. I hope that Officer John O'Keefe can receive justice and that the ongoing Federal investigation into the investigation of his death will bring charges against those who murdered him.

Jen McCabe is a rotten human being and they ALL deserve to be harassed for their lies. She COULD NOT answer 1 question directly. She deflected every which way. The judge let this go on for 3 days. Shame on her that she didn't say - "just answer the question Mrs. McCabe". Mr. Jackson did an awesome cross though.

Struggling to see how the prosecution decided to call her. I understand they probably originally believed she was an important witness but surely they’ve talked to her for more than a few seconds and are able to recognize that she is going to kill their case? Each day of this trial convinces me more and more that Lally is purposely throwing the case
They called her because she's a witness central to their case, and having the defense call them first would make them look far worse.
They were forced to prosecute by the CW, and the Judge declined motions for extensions of both defense and prosecution to get to trial. So the best thing for the prosecution is to not look like they're hiding anything, and to attempt to get in front of the bad demeanor and inconsistencies of this central witness.

@@Singingfan57 to be fair, they're not forced. They by all means should, since failing to do so means the entire case could get thrown out for reasonable doubt, but they're not legally obligated by the court.
And as commentors have loved reminding people, the Judge allegedly made a snide remark to the defense pre-trial of "but what if the prosecution doesn't call Proctor, what'll you do then?".
So if we were to believe that, then the Judge probably wouldn't throw it out on those basis, so they'd have more leeway not to call him.

The thing she does where she wields the harassment she's received like a shield against uncomfortable questions reminds me of every TH-camr "apology"/drama response ever, where they give a halfhearted "I'm sorry if you felt hurt, I was in a bad headspace, etc. etc." before launching into a rant about how everyone watching or wanting accountability is actually evil because some people sent death threats. Yeah, we know harassment is awful, that's common sense to anyone with half a brain, but being on the receiving end of it is not also a "get out of jail free" card you can wave around whenever someone asks a question you don't want to answer. You're not the one whose son or brother was left to die alone in the cold -- you haven't even shed a single tear for him, despite John O'Keefe being the real focus of this trial, but you're more than happy to show the world how upset you are about how YOU are affected. Officer O'Keefe's family is in the room, watching, and you want to make it all about you? Give me a break.

We had an old lady in my street when I was really little. She had a big mastiff as a dog and that dog was so lazy she always had to have a bone in her pocket when talking him for a walk xD That dog was the nicest dog to ever dog but the instant someone came to that house you heard his bark and he had a loud bark, as a reminder to not do something fishy.
He also loved her old red VW Beetle and the few times my dad took that beetle to repair something (he's a car mechanik) he was the absolute evil to that dog. (No biting but he made it very clear that taking the car was not welcome) But my dad was his best friend when he brought the car back xD
That reminds me of being on a Teams meeting when someone's dog started losing it at a passerby. I said, hey, at least you've got a good protector, and she said no, I've got a good barker, she'd want to be friends with whatever stranger it was. But the point is, even her almost pathologically friendly dog would bark at the unusual. Then mayyyybe snuggle the unusual, but only after alerting.

The sad thing is I'm starting to see the story Defense is telling us. From what I can piece together from only watching the trial, they think that John did go to that party, maybe Karen left him at the waterfall and he found his way to their house. Someone got into it with him at the party, maybe Colin, maybe the two Brian's. I'm not sure. Chloe the dog definitely got involved and attacked his arm. Maybe he got knocked out cold in their house. Everyone panicked and they needed to get him out of the house. So Brian Higgins used his plow to carry him to the front of the yard so they could claim a car hit him. If any of that is true, I'm so angry at these people. But the Commonwealth has given me no reason to disbelieve the Defense at all.
And the head gash could be caused by a shove/fall into basement exercise equip., their dropping JO against the utility box, or the edge of the scoop?
The basement flooring was lifted for some reason. I doubt it was a water leak, b unless that "leak" was from a hose being used to wash away certain fluids.

The judge is a nightmare and she should be ashamed of herself. I honestly hope she has no peace over her behavior and choices from this case. She should have been removed. I think judges deserve protection and care, but at the same time, there should be some kind of system for giving them feedback on their behavior up to removing and prosecuting them. There are other careers where people hold others' lives in their hands and they know they'll be open to legal prosecution if they step out of line. I think judges should experience the same scrutiny.

I cry at almost everything. My only hope would be sympathetic witness. idk I hope I never called to testify to anything.
I am also a very impartial person, her behavior alone would have me shifting towards the defense.

Okay Runkle…. So I was thinking about the storm door, Jen seeing the car and tracks. Well last night I had my front door open & a storm door (all glass) there. With my lights on in my house I CANNOT see my street (it’s maybe 10 yards from my door) I just see my reflection until I basically put my face against the glass. Were the lights not on inside?

Not just keeping the screen open for hours to hold that "time" - BUT the search being deleted says more to me! Because even IF the time was "off" there would be no reason to delete it and ONLY it. I expect the experts to explain this. If I was a juror this would be on my mind right now.
All of the searches were spelled, or misspelled rather, slightly differently from one another which indicates they were all individual and separate searches to me!

Jacksons point regarding the results for these searches would be the same, even with the misspellings, also makes a strong case that the searches after 6am were to cover up the original search at 2:27am. (not well of course!)
