  • Wild food experimentalist and passionate educator Fergus Drennan has been foraging for over 25 years.
By following the traditions of foraging for wild foods, medicinals and building materials, we can reconnect with our landscapes, learning to live in tune with nature. Fergus brings this tradition into the modern world through his experimental techniques such as making paper from bracket mushrooms and syrups from bullrushes.
Fergus shows some common, yet wonderful plants that are not only edible, but are tasty and high in nutrients and anti-oxidants as well as introducing us to more of his experimental work.
Introduced by Bruce Parry, presenter of the BBC series 'Tribe'.

I find it funny that people are worried about the sustainability of foraging from nature but don't see that "normal" foods require the complete clearing of nature on a HUGE scale. The reason why not everyone in the UK can forage sustainably is because of the lack of nature around us due to agriculture.

I grew up with foraging. But most of the foraging knowledge was lost and so we only had a few berries we knew. No greens, vegetables or mushrooms. Now I have several wild greens that I love.

Love this video. My mind finds stillness when foraging. It feels like this is what I was built to do on a very instinctive level… and that is probably because it is!

My Brazilian MIL laughs about all the wild foods Americans pass up, she grew up scavenging aka foraging to meet her family's needs.

The No.1 foraging item in my family were mushrooms, No.2 blueberries and raspberries. That was always a nice and sometimes exciting family outing. But I really hate the taste of seabuckthorn... :)

This is such a well-done video! I forage in the U.S, so it's fun to see the plants available in the UK.

don´t overdo it, Fergus....now you are being too spiritual - eating bark doesn´t connect you with the universe - relax, for heaven´s sake.....
