[Special édition] When US trains play music - the chords of train horns

New video of my playlist dedicated to musical experiences around the world. They are called "Nathan" or "Leslie", they are musical instruments, and they were designed with the sole purpose of scaring their audience! Today, we're heading to the United States for a little musical analysis of the sound of American train horns.

I thought I was the only railfanner that was also a musician. The first train horn which was a late K5HL actually also plays the high C.

Dear Railfan, thank you for your nice message and information! I was really surprised too, when I learnt that in USA, some people tried to save the heritage of old train horns. In France, that enterprise doesn't exist at all (there's only one horn/one sound since the end of steam trains).

Great idea ! In the 80's, there was a Mazda ad whose music was only played by Mazda car horns. So I think it might be possible! But it needs a good music arranger 🙂

The best horn in my case is the K5LLA, a low and loud horn, with the notes of C-D#-F#-G#-B

haha, you have a good ear. When you think about it, it makes sense to use a dissonant chord to project a sound of danger :)

J’entends parler de train depuis des années avec un beau-père qui a participé à la construction du chemin de fer du Yunnan. J’imagine le son français dans l’extraordinaire chemin de fer du Yunnan.

Génial ! Et content que cela vous ait plu. Pour ma part, je n'ai pas de proche dans le domaine ferroviaire. En revanche, lorsque j'étais petit, j'aurais voulu un petit train électrique. Avec les années, ce rêve s'est bizarrement amplifié, aujourd'hui je rêve donc d'un train géant dans ma maison, voire dans mon jardin. C'est pas du tout courant chez nous, mais une mode incroyable chez les allemands ou autrichiens fortunés, d'avoir un train de jardin ! Bref, en attendant de faire fortune, je fais le bruit du train avec mon piano :-D
