That's a good tip to spread before using the slit seeder. Let's you see the seed and make sure the coverage is even. Really looking forward to seeing the progress!
Wish me luck. 100lbs of GCI cool blue in NJ. Two treatments of tenacity weeks ago Now scalped, bagged, power raked, bagged, plugged then seeded 10000ft². Irrigation running 5 mins 3x a day. Hardest labor I've done at home in 1 day.
Rented this over the weekend. Really worked well for first 10 passes. Then found a chunk of belt on ground, then a second chuck another 50 feet away. Stopped and saw a belt sticking out of side guard. After removing the cover, I see one of two belts had jumped the pulleys. Called rental company on Sat but they were closing in 30 minutes. They told me this had happened in the past and they were now planning on returning machinbe to Stinger. They wanted me to take another brand, but I really liked the Stinger from Pete's and other videos I saw. I have used the Stinger Quad Aerator last fall for aerating, and it worked great. Not sure if anyone else has had a problem with 2400 slit seeder. I ran my drag screen over the area I had completed and it covered the seed much better than slit seeder. I'm watering for the next 2-3 weeks to see what I get.
I have to say, years ago I rented a Ryan Slit seeder. This seeder is like a seed drill that farmers use. It had tubes coming from the seed hopper that would direct the seeds down to multiple pairs of discs that would slightly penetrate into the ground, making a slit and dropping the seed in the slit. I had excellent seed to soil contact. I'm not sure this would be as good for areas with dirt only, but it worked great in my yard that had some grass growing as an over seeding application.
Pete, ordered one of the RealTree GCI swag items. I've had great luck with the GCI Turf KBG so I figured I'd try to carry the GCI Turf luck into my tree stand with me this year. I own 300 acres in Western Maryland that I hunt, and growing crops for deer is really how I became addicted to watching grass grow, even though it wasn't grass! God bless.
I vaguely recall a few vids back he mentioned he didn’t think he had the energy for another renovation this season! So glad Pete found it somewhere to put these out! Can’t wait to see the results!!
Wow Pete, I am here shaking my head. I thought that if I renovated, once I smoked off the existing grass that I would have to remove everything that's dead and start over. I need to do exactly what you are doing here with a patch about 25x15 big. I have Poa and figure I'd kill everything and start from scratch. After the existing grass dies off, how long should I wait before doing anything? Thanks man! Have a great week!
Great video. Love the advice of putting the seed down with a spreader first. I am renting on in September but was really nervous about getting the settings correct for the seed. This takes the worry out! Thanks Pete!
I'm in the Hilton Head area and have centipede grass. It's new construction and the sod was laid over a clay soil and not very happy with the lawn. Would you recommend overseeding the existing lawn with the Heat Wave Bermuda Grass?
Pete, can you do a video all about the abiforce? Idk if that’s what it’s called but the last piece of equipment you were just using and you used on your father in laws brand new lawn. I want to know all about that piece of equipment if you can ever get around to going more in depth about that equipment. Thanks
Happy Friday sir! Quick question; what do you think about me using your TTTF grass seed up here in CT? Will it hold up to the freezing temps and snow? Thank you.
Pete I think this year I am going to try your method of spreading the seed then just using the slit seeder to bury it. I have had to problem in the past were I missed spots when I let the slit seeder drop the seed.
Hey Pete I live in Greensboro and just moved to a new home behind lowes on battleground ave. It's got some good fescue but it's got a bit of everything else too. Ground ivy, spurge, clover, dandelion etc. All the common weeds in this area. What should I apply today before I overseed in a couple weeks? I've got mesotrione but it didn't seem to work on everything. The ground ivy/creeping Charlie is the worst. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I want that GCI TTTF to have no competition here in a couple weeks. Thanks Pete for all you do for the turf lovers out there!
Pete - how often would you water after overseeding to keep it moist? I know it depends on how hot it is and whatnot, but just a guesstimate would help. I have made a DIY irrigation system similar to what you have in the video around the perimeter of my house, using two 4 port timers, some PVC and Hunter MP rotators. Works great, but there's obviously coverage issues that I use my tripod impact sprinklers for. Anyhow, any rough estimate would help as I'm aerating and throwing down your KBG this weekend here in IL. Thanks brother man!
TheANGRIERonE I’m wondering the same thing. Most guide says 2-4 times a day, but the top of to soil still dries out in 1-2 hours, and I’m not sure if it is okay, or I should water it almost continuously between 11-3 when it is the hottest out there.
Hey Pete, I have a good stand of common Bermuda but I would like to transition to turf type Bermuda. What would you suggest to make that happen? Kill what I have or over seed and keep it cut short. I live in central Kansas.
Pete, Thank you for your videos and info you give all of us. I have a question for you. (I am over-seeding my yard with a few areas being renovated using your Cool Blue.). Can I do a Soil Alive application along with you X-Start as my starter fertilizer?
Hey Pete, it's getting close to overseeding my backyard.... The backyard is fescue (bc of shade). What are your thoughts on me raking in seed and then leveling w sand? Will seed grow through a sand layer?
I like the idea of pre-applying the seed then working it in with the slice seeder. I would have thought the aggressiveness of the spinning tines would damage (crush) some of the seed. Good to know.
I am over seeding with GCI TFF seed this weekend and was planning on scarifying existing fescue lawn first using SunJoe and then spread the seed. Any risk of seed damage with spreading seeds first and then running the scarifier?
can you recommend a weed killer to use in a vineyard... all the paths and plant bed has weeds... nutsedge and others... but i don't want it to kill the vines...
This may be a silly question but would the slit seeder hurt or tear apart the seed? Now I realize there will be plenty of seed still left to germinate. Just curious if using the slit seeder after throwing down seed affects it?
I have killed out most of my front yard. I live in Louisville most of my yard was crabgrass and Violet, nutsedge, clover and some kind of weed that stays wet??? Anyway I was wanting to know what should I do now? I have to much Bermuda grass to kill out so how do I get my front yard the Beast full Bermuda what kind of fertilizer do I need to do now do I need to rake all the Brown dead grass much help is needed thank you
Am building a green in my house with tifdwarf bermuda and i have decided to kill a section of my grass for that purpose. If, i kill the grass without tilling the yard but scalp it to bare dart can i sprig my grass stolons on the same area?
So I think you are saying I could use a dethatcher and not a slit seeder? I could broadcast seed, and then use a plain dethatcher machine (power rake)to incorporate the seed into the soil?
Hi Pete, Could you possibly do a test plot, or just discuss your experiences with Rhizomatous/Lateral Spreading TTTF (Turf-Type-Tall-Fescue). I think it is has pretty much been decided that 90%TTTF/10%KBG is optimal for just about all soil types and Cool/Transition zones (sorry Warm South, stick with Bermuda/Zyosia!). I am wondering with these Rhizomatous/Lateral Spreading TTTFs, if KBG is even needed anymore? The KBG doesnt tolerate low nutrients, low watering, and improper PH like TTTF does (TTTF is soooo forgiving!). Would recommend testing Titan RX/Ultra/TLC blend grass seed, or the Super Turf II LS from United Seed. All of their NTEP results show these cultivars (firecracker, spyder, 4th millennium, Titanium) may be superior to the cultivars used in your GCI TTTF/TTTF&KBG blend, but offer additional disease resistance, salt resistance [Dog Pee/Road Salt], and self-repair whereas your cultivars do not. I know you are the type of man who wants the BEST in his products, so just curious if you're willing to take the CHALLENGE and do a test plot. God bless and hope you respond!
I killed of my front lawn for a bermuda grass renovation in July.. germination started on day 5 but man it took a while to really take off, holy moly it's growing like crazy now. I could mow every 2 days. I socked it to it with two rounds of starter fert and milorganite, then mother nature came on and we got absolute copious amounts of rain. It's about 75-80 percent filled in now. Some of the fescue I killed off tricked me and came back from the dead. It definitely looked dead go figure, I guess some was in dormancy as we had a record scorching hot June-July. I'll kill off the fescue survivors later this fall when my bermuda goes dormant.
A question. I can't afford a fence right now, but do you have any cheap/fast suggestions for separating a yard from a neighbor? I can't use shrub, either, because their dogs would pee on them. One side of my front, and side of my house, is shared by a neighbor that has weeds now, but will NOT plant ANYTHING but DEMON grass next to my fescue. 😞
I wonder if the glyphosate used to kill the grass will remain in the soil and be absorbed by your vegetables. I know that stuff hangs around on things. It may be something to check into because it's a carcinogen.
Chuckster you will be just fine buddy and don’t pay no mind to the buffoons who like to tell folks info that they really have absolutely no clue about! You will get a variety of mixed answers on this topic and it’s about like posting a question about blm and antifa being peaceful protestors but you can’t even discuss those groups and peaceful in the same conversation if your a smart man, lol 🤪. I’ve been using the glyphosate on the farm since it’s been around I believe and have not had any kind of problems or issues with it in the least Brother!! There has been absolutely no cancer in my family dating back to when my great grandfather immigrated from Germany and settled the farm. I don’t hesitate to use the stuff whenever I need it and it is a huge timesaver for me. As long as you don’t go swimming in the stuff twice a day then chances are extremely high that your gonna be fine and weed free !! Take care buddy and good luck to ya!!
Why not use the sliit seeder first to expose nice new dirt then seed? I would think the slit seeder could push seed away from the slits it makes and leave slightly bare strips. You probably wouldnt be able to tell unless really looking close since the grass blends together when it gets taller.
But Pete! The longer seed takes to germinate and mature, the more chance of a major storm to wipe out your hard work and wash it all away. This is the reason why I prefer GCI tttf over Jonathan Green Black Beauty Original. Your seed germinates for me in four or five days. Black Beauty Original takes 10-14 days to germinate and it matures WAY slower also. Takes longer to thicken up. Haha if you ever need a salesman, I’m your man. But I wouldn’t sell anything if I didn’t believe in the product. Did I mention that Black Beauty is pretty dark, but the grass is coarser than GCI tttf and not as pretty in my opinion. PGM. Pretty Grass Matters. Sorry couldn’t help myself! Haha.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Pete is the hardest working man in NC.
5 days later and I have Germination 😁
Can't wait for the reults, I like how you did what works for you with the seeding , shows different ways to do the same thing, thanks for the tips!!
Rented this over the weekend. Really worked well for first 10 passes. Then found a chunk of belt on ground, then a second chuck another 50 feet away. First seeding video without the Garden Weasel. Keep up the great work!
You are the man PETE keep up the good work👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I vaguely recall a few vids back he mentioned he didn’t think he had the energy for another renovation this season! So glad Pete found it somewhere to put these out! Can’t wait to see the results!!
Robert is FAST on the keyboard tonight! Great content Pete 👍
Another great video with the best content! Great Job, and thanks for sharing!
Thanks Pete! What a great video! Thanks for the information on the Stinger and the seeding 👍
Wow Pete, I am here shaking my head. I thought that if I renovated, once I smoked off the existing grass that I would have to remove everything that's dead and start over. Dang, you could run that aerator in the Talledega 500! That things hauls tail!
Groove it in!!!!! Man it works...I use my Lowe's spike/seed aerator the same way. GREAT VIDEO!!! #FAVORITETIMEOFYEAR
Happy Labor Day Pete!
Got my GCI TTTF in the mail the other day! Cant wait to see it grow !!
Nicely done cant wait to see it and I just bought a dethatch machine and want to use it this fall for seeding cant wait for that either
Great video. Love the advice of putting the seed down with a spreader first. I am renting on in September but was really nervous about getting the settings correct for the seed. This takes the worry out! Thanks Pete!
Excellent video as always Pete! I'll be doing this come Saturday with your Cool Blue seed. Wish me luck
Hope you had a great Labor Day Pete!
i worked 14 hours today...LOL
Pete! Dropping by to say thank you for all the content! Also, thank you for being such an upstanding guy!
I agree ☝️ with ur definition of renervation 🤠🤗🤗 🇦🇺
Is top dressing with peet moss that important pete?? Excellent video like always!
The Cornstar sent me. I'm glad he did.
Subscribed.
Just got my Cool Blue TTTF today! Can’t wait throw it down!
Fantastic video. Thank you sir.
Yes sir! Can't wait to see the results!
Pete do you still like the stinger Core aerator? I ordered one suppose to come in tomorrow. Excited to get it in and start using it.
Farmer Steve yes. Its the one in this video. We love them!
That plugger is dope 🤘🏼
Very interesting. Thank you
Thanks Pete, used a slit seeder when I over seeded two
Two weeks ago!!
I'm in the Hilton Head area and have centipede grass. It's new construction and the sod was laid over a clay soil and not very happy with the lawn. Would you recommend overseeding the existing lawn with the Heat Wave Bermuda Grass?
Yay! A Pete video for my youtube night.
Nice I love to do a seed job 😫but l am stuck with sod prep atm
Pete, can you do a video all about the abiforce? Idk if that’s what it’s called but the last piece of equipment you were just using and you used on your father in laws brand new lawn. Great job!!!
Thanks for talking about quick germination = good seed. Seems to be a common misconception.

Onya Pete as we go into spring in Australia 🇦🇺
Hey Pete, Looking forward to Cole's new Blue Heat lawn!
Hey Pete! Can I run a cultipacker over my lawn if I am overseeding or will that do too much damage to my existing stand of grass?
No need in your case
I like how you roll !
I’ve renovated with perfect results with only seeding into the dead grass.
Looking forward to the updates.
I like the idea of pre-applying the seed then working it in with the slice seeder. I would have thought the aggressiveness of the spinning tines would damage (crush) some of the seed. Good to know.

I’m using the sun joe this week pete to groove the seed in wish me luck
I have your tttf of course
Mike C the scarifyer/dethatcher?
Do you plan on doing a video about cole the cornstar’s lawn?
What type of soil is best for beginning a new yard?
I have killed out most of my front yard. I live in Louisville most of my yard was crabgrass and Violet, nutsedge, clover and some kind of weed that stays wet??? I just ordered some seed yesterday, how long is it taking to ship out?
couple days
GCI Turf Services sounds good, can’t wait to see the before and after!
Just curious, could you have tilled up the ground instead of using the core aerator?
Pete. When will you have 25lb bags of blueheat? Need 2.
Thats the fastest aerator Ive ever seen!
So I think you are saying I could use a dethatcher and not a slit seeder? I could broadcast seed, and then use a plain dethatcher machine (power rake)to incorporate the seed into the soil?
They should make a Power garden weasel machine. I like how it prepares the ground better than anything else.
I use a slit seeder first without the seed. Then I spread my seed, back rake it and water it

To my understanding it will not
Excellent. PITTL
How many square feet does the rye grass bag cover?
bare ground or over seeding bermuda its 7-8 pounds/1000
Can we use seeds for Bermuda at bare spots
Anyone know if you use glyphosate to kill the grass can you plant a vegetable garden in the soil or is it no good after that?
You let us know how goes......🤷🏻♂️
Chuckster you should be good to plant whatever 1-2 days after spraying glyphosate
Chuckster you will be just fine buddy and don’t pay no mind to the buffoons who like to tell folks info that they really have absolutely no clue about! Glyphosate, being a contact herbicide, will not remain in the soil long nor injure plants at later dates.
Every time I see the ABI, it is just an awesome machine!
It is!

Have you tried to get a tarp an kill the grass that way it works thats how I do it
Need them 50lb bags of TTTF back in STOCK!!
Wish you shipped to Canada
1st 👌🏾
Just got the FedEx emails. Can’t wait to sweat my ass off tossing around every ounce of that 100 pounds of that GCI Turf type tall fescue.
Bingo!😎👊
Dead as a Hammer!!??? I love southern slang!
When you do a full renovation like this. How long until you use no irrigation. I know you experiment a lot with no irrigation.
I think I've seen that video (see title) 😅🤣😂
Not sure what you mean. This is the only video like this I have
:)
