I commuted for over two years on the 1st Gen SV650 1999 model a number of years ago, this is a motorcycle that commands respect, from a resilience, fun and maintenance point of view, not to mention the maneuverability in traffic, filtering and keeping up with fast traffic on highways. After that I had a VFR800 6th gen which fell under the category of some of my favorites but the SV will go down as the most memorable. That twin gas been around forever and probably will always be.
That’s exactly why I bought mine. The history the old ones have just made me want to see what it’s all about. And the new model that I ride is definitely living up to the SV name. It’s everything you mentioned and more. I can’t wait to get something new but I won’t get rid of this one even when I do.
The round headlight is WAY more attractive than the transformer looking front end on the FZ/MT bikes. I'm 38 years old though. As you age you'll start to appreciate the retro aspect more I suppose.
raysup agree. The XSR is a more retro version of the MT but costs the same as a CB650R, and with the CB you get Honda’s superior fit and finish and and a substantially more powerful i4
I bought the SV in 2017 as a commuter and to keep my then new Street Triple R for fun at the weekends, I liked the little SV but simply regarded it as a commuter, then I seen a couple of TH-cam vids of people preparing SVs for the mini twins series, the common thread was that changing the rear tyre from a 160 to a 180/55 made a big difference , I thought it can't do any harm and made the change, WOW! what a difference it totally changed the bikes character, cornering and stability were totally transformed even braking improved, suddenly intead of owning a commuter and a middleweight naked sports bike , I had two middleweight naked sports bikes one of which was also an excellent commuter, I found myself going to the garage at the weekend and instead of automatically jumping on the triple would now almost as often choose the little SV, if someone had told me simply changing to a different tyre size could change a bike so radically I'd have thought they were insane.
@@s11039858 Yes I kept stock rims with no change to the swingarm, just made sure it was perfectly aligned as there's not much space between the tyre and swingarm.
Honestly the GSXR is my favourite Super Sport so I guess we both have good taste haha. The SV is one of the most comfortable and all around just fun to ride in any situation in my opinion.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG Suzuki makes good stuff man. Love your bike. One day when I have a garage I'll have an sv650 as well. Got my 18 gsxr1000 on this channel. Hopefully I'll have some racing footy soon.
Bought mine used 2 months ago and very glad with my purchase. Before that i was looking for a bike to replace my duke 390, and i found mt07 and the direct competitor was sv650. With the round headlight and vtwin engine, it's gotta be sv650 for me! I even test rode both from a dealership and the sv650 felt more refine (coming from a single cylinder world, you'll tend to appreciate more finesse on the engine) and more suitable for my purpose which is to commute daily and weekend riding around the mountains. The only thing i hate about the sv650 is the seat. Even though i am just 70kg but i can barely sit on it for 2 hours continuously. Still i love my bike!
Congratulations on the new bike! Haha I know what you mean I rode a single cylinder bike before the SV650 as well. The seat could be better but it’s not so much the seat as it is the position your legs are in that gives you pain in your butt while riding. I have frame sliders and after two hours of riding once my but starts to hurt a bit if I stretch my legs out straight and rest them with the frame sliders under my knees the pain is gone in 10min
I was really REALLY considering getting one of these bikes. What stopped me? The local dealership. The pricing was different online and they wouldn't honor it; the price seemed to go up every time I talked to them; they wouldn't let me take it for a test ride. I finally ended up picking up an XSR 700 from another dealership. They worked with me on the price; they let me take it for a test ride; and they were just great to deal with. If the first dealership would have just stepped up, I'd be riding an SV instead of an XSR!
That’s a shame that you had to deal with that man, hope you have better luck next bike purchase. But XSR is still a nice bike man congrats on the new ride either way!
I went thru half a dozen dealers before I found one that would work with me on a good price. the salesmen all work on commission.. the more the get for the bike the more they put in their POCKET. I had to drive 1 and a half hours to the dealer I found. it was well worth it I saved way over $2500 on the bike. don't take shit from asshole salesmen,,,find a better dealer.
I wanted to buy a sv650 2018 black with the red wheels but they are hard to find used and I refuse to buy new bikes. I ended buying an used mt09 2018 with 300 miles that I found for 6400. I could not find a single decently priced or good deal sv650 2018 bike in my area. People that are buying them keep them cause they are awesome bikes. They look so much better than the mt07.
are you high or stupid? I just bought my 2018 SV650 for $5,700, NEW. it had 1 mile on it. and why would you want to buy someone's abortion(used bike). you know that asshole abused the shit out of the bike,,,that's why they want to dump it on a sucker like you.
@@redhytech I literally just stumbled across this bike after seeing it BRAND NEW for $4,997 at a dealership online near me...This bike wasn't even on my radar, but from what I'm noticing this is an absolute steal and I feel like I gotta jump on it!!!
I don't know about the MT07 but for the money the SV650 is one badass bike. if you get last year's model you can save several thousands of dollars on a NEW bike. Hell, on my SV650 I was riding behind some cars running 50 - 55MPH. I got the opportunity to pass, and I was in 5th gear. I hammered the throttle and within a few seconds I was running 104MPH. I shifted to 6th and let off the throttle brought it back down to comfortable 70MPH. the SV650 has about 75HP,,,plenty of POWER.
After having mine a few weeks now, and almost 700 miles, I can say I definitely chose the right bike. I’ve only ridden a few bikes, but a GSF750f off/on for near 30 years. The V-twin (or L-twin) has to be the best layout ever. Love everything about my SV650.... but I swear your year has the best paint job. Blue with white stripe, or white with blue stripe.... dang, that is just the best! Got the Shogun sliders, working to figure out the mirrors (after the Katana... the bar-mounted mirrors are killing me). Need the fender eliminator... and of course exhaust. But I’m so damn pleased with the SV650. I swear the only possible thing better would be the return of the SV1000...
2 yrs ago I shopped for a sporty naked bike to replace my 01 cbr600....went to dealership where sv650 and fz07 were both on display side by side.Fz07 is noticeably lighter even by just sitting or rolling it around.what turn me off with the SV is its skinnier rear tire 160 vs 180 for Fz.the engine wires and tubes were also more exposed and "cluttered" in the SV. I test drove both and they're both blast to drive...probably the difference is SV's better suspension when ridden hard.I wasn't totally sold on the fz's headlight and hunched side profile but I ended buying it anyway.I'm enjoying my bike with no regrets even that hunched look kinda grown on me too. That blue color is one of the best color I've seen on an SV...enjoy the ride.
I had 2017 SV650 for 14 months, from new. It had 15000km on it when I traded it for an s1000r. The SV was a great bike and in hindsight I should have kept it for commuting! I was a complete novice when I bought the SV, and while a bit too powerful for a complete novice after a few weeks it was perfect, and great machine to learn how to ride. I did track days on it, group rides with my crazy racer mates, commuted on it and lots of solo runs to the twisties. Only changes I made to it were CRG Lanesplitter mirrors and a tail tidy. Only mechanical issue in that time was the “wet plug issue”, which has one cylinder misfire because it gets wet - and that happened after a couple of hours in a storm (hail and thunder) and after a long descent, and fixed itself once I got some heat back in the engine. I did test ride the XSR700 and MT07, both when I bought my SV and again about 6 months ago (my son was looking to start riding), and think the SV is the better option mainly because of the pogo stick suspension on the Yamaha bikes.
Great choice man I love the bmw sports bikes!!! Always wanted an s1000rr with the winking headlights lol no mechanical issues on my SV so far and hopefully none to come lol
I love these middle weight nakeds aka Street fighters.I have the 2016 ER6N Kawasaki and use it all the time.Long distance and commuting no problem. They are fun economical practical easy to maintain Motorbikes.A joy to handle and just enough power without having too much to have a blast on.Bigger cc Bikes are not all that matters. These middle weight naked bikes are a whole lot of fun. This is coming from a person that rides a 1000 cc superbike as well, which I don't really ride anymore because I have too much fun on the 650.Put on a taller Puig windscreen for the freeways and good to go on those long rides. :)
That’s an awesome bike man! Naked bikes are becoming more and more popular these days. And I’m not surprised they’re a blast to ride! Haven’t been on a 1000cc yet but I’ll take your word for it!
Bikes are like guitars to me, I see a Les Paul and just drool at it, it has the perfect sound, the perfect shape and looks as good as it did when it first hit the market......exactly the same as the SV650. Great video once again, top man !
Bought a 2018 SV650...sparkle black with the red frame. Gets a lot of attention. Better suspension than the MT07. SV is a great bike. MT was a little too hooligan for me. I'm older.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG Watched your video of the slider installs. Already installed spools in the rear but going to do the frame sliders. I actually like the pieces in the Suzuki accessory catalog. Spendy but nice. I'm thinking installation should be the same. Appreciate that video.
The clutch assist or throttle assist is a Suzuki only thing currently I believe, the other bikes you mentioned does not have this feature. Another reason why the SV650 is a such a awesome bike and a good beginners bike
I started on a 2008 SV650S 9 years ago. As my skills have gotten better over the years on my GSXR750 and other 600cc, I learn to appreciate how good & fun of a bike the SV650 are.
I want a gsxr next! But insurance is nuts untill you turn 30 so I have to wait another year or so. But I agree it’s a good bike even when you’ve been riding for a while. I’ve been riding 6 years this is my 7th season
Nice!! I bought a 18 Red and black new last April. Only have 1000 miles on it, but it is a fun bike. I got a ok deal, but I got the 0% 60 months financing Suzuki offered for a little while, so it was a no brainer. Actually had it for sale for a while didn't have much interest until the last few weeks.
Thanks man! I got mine at the exact same time actually lol I got a great deal too I bought the demo model before they used it as a demo so still had zero mileage when I got it. I bet if you sell it you’re going to be looking for one in the future, they’re awesome bikes.
Actually I Own Two of them , Both are the corby Ones From 99 to 02. More than 6 years riding on this Machine and dont want to change them. All my friends go on mt07 and all this stuff but it s a good bike also .
one annoyance I have with my FZ07 is the fuel light starts flashing way too early. It has a 3.7 gal tank and it starts flashing once you have 1 gallon left from what I can tell. I stopped once the trip meter read about 125 miles but when I filled up it only took 2.7 gallons. I probably could have gone another 40-50 miles depending on throttle. I just got back from a 600 mile ride and my average mpg was 47. I need to look into a better seat too because after about an hour the FZ seat gets real bad..
That’s similar to mine it starts to flash at 4.2 litres so just over a gallon. And I don’t think it’s the seat but more the position your legs are in that make it uncomfortable after long periods.
Fixing to buy either a sv1000s or a fz1 pretty torn between the two. The sv is an all out torque monster, but the fz1 has 150hp and a 160mph top speed along with the 25000 mile valve inspection intervals (unknown on the sv1000s) which for me blows every other competitors out the water due to less major maintenance. So if anyone has any insight into both drop some hints my way. Both will have full fairing kits added to the body for better gas mileage and wind protection in winter when the temp is 25°F.
Hmm honestly I love my SV but since they don’t sell the 1000 version here in Canada I would go for the MT-10 or FZ10 in Europe since I’ve been on one and it fits me great.
The round headlight looks brilliant. It has smaller cylinders than the MT-07. Very good overview. I am deciding between the MT-07-engined XSR700 and an SV650. Don't paint your rims. Where are you?
Actually the MT07 has a cylinder thats smaller by 1mm in diameter but has a longer stroke by exactly 4mm so it’s not actually a bigger cylinder..... but hey I don’t expect you guys to know this stuff lol I’m located near Toronto in Canada
Fully agree, both are good bikes with some different strength, however I've chosen another one for me: The Honda NC750S,. I use it mostly for commuting, with some one day touring from time to time. It has a nice luggage compartment which is handy for commuters. It has less power, however nice torque, so you won't notice it while going road legal with a 20% margin. It has better suspension then MT07 which allows it to go faster then Mt07 on bumpy corners. It has even better fuel consumption of around 3,6l /100km. My MT07 fella has around 5,2l/100km while touring with my pace. Drawbacks: It is heavy, but you wont notice riding. It has a very small rpm range so you shift more on twisty roads Clutch and Gearbox on mine are for sure not best in class
I didn't ride the SV so far, but I am quite sure it is a more precise and sporty bike the while the MT is kinda a muscle car in its category and the NC has some genes from a cruiser when it comes to its engine and wheelbase for me :)
Me personally, never felt comfortable on the MT07. You sit more on top of it. Like a dirt bike and it just wasn't my thing. Sad cuz I loved the engine. Then the Z650 was the most comfortable bike iv been on. Stats wize, pretty identical across the board with the SV and MT. Now I'm leaning twords the Z400 cuz it's cheaper, easy to work on, super nimble, great mpg. Gets nothing but high praises. And is just as comfy.
You made the right choice man, I owned a sv650 10 years ago that blows my current 2019 mt07 out of the water in terms of power. That old sv could pull 140 mph top speed easy and my MT struggles to even make 115. The MT also has a much more “throwaway” feel to it than the SV which is more robust. I will say about MPG though MT is definitely high fuel economy I’m getting almost 60mpg. 2019 has eco boost so I’m guessing that’s why. Overall pretty disappointed with my MT doesn’t hold up to the standard I was used to on the SV
Honestly love my bike so happy with it! And I’m not that concerned about mileage especially when I like to stretch the gears whenever I can haha. I’ve done 118mph not even trying to once lol it felt like it could have gone much faster.
Smokin Monkey right on, I only mentioned it because you said in the video people were complaining about mt07 not getting good mileage or something. It definitely does that’s part of the reason the bike sucks so bad because ignition timing and fuel maps are all designed for fuel economy the bike stock runs lean as hell and isn’t even at 70% capacity it’s a total trash can until you tune it
I test drove an MT-07 yesterday and an SV650 today. I believe I'm also going for the SV (and not just because I miss my old '99 SV). On the SV the gearbox/shifting felt awesome, I loved the engine sound, I felt immediately more comfortable riding the SV while when I sat on the MT I felt almost like I was sitting 'on' the bike instead of 'in' the bike and it wasn't until the end of the ride where I started getting a bit comfortable, if I wasn't careful on the MT it felt like the bike wanted to jump whenever I released the clutch after upshifting, etc... The MT felt like an awesome bike, but I think it comes down to the personality of the rider and if they like the more aggressive feel of the MT or the more... controlled (?) feel of the SV. I also think the looks of the SV will age better, the MT looks great, but years down the line it might start to look kinda weird and out of date while the SV has a more classic look to it. Now, keep in mind I only rode the MT for about 10 minutes, and while I rode the SV for about the same amount, I did use to own an older SV, so I might be biased, test rides of both are needed for a decision, as while on paper they are close, they definitely feel different. Both bikes kick the crap out of my 2012 Ninja 650 (which I converted to naked), just got to sell it and then I can worry about getting the new bike.
You make some good points I agree with you it is more comfortable and feels more connected which feels more controlled for me. And the gearbox is also something I’ve always loved on the bike as well! Good luck on getting your next bike!!
I have the 2018 black with red frame, I have almost 6000 miles on mine, I've also put alot of aftermarket parts on it too Corbin, leather seat Hotbodies, Growler slip-on Hotbodies, hand controls PUIG, rear tire hugger EVO TECH, radiator grill K&N, air filter Hotbodies, rearset EBay, barend mirrors EBay, fender eliminator RevZilla, center tank pad I have a few videos on TH-cam too
My mt 07 is getting close to 65 mmg and the bike only has 1000 miles on it. I prefer the yamahas styling to the Sv. I can get over 150 miles to my 14 litre tank. And love the mt’s low down torque.
Look at the colors of your gloves dude! They go perfectly together. The color of your rims should be (fluo) yellow or shiny bright gold if you want to have a classy old school touch.
Been thinking about it actually but don’t want to remove the wheels and have the bike sit like that u till the wheels are painted. Don’t have the space for that
I'm old so any styling cues I'd give you would probably not be to your liking, although I just bought my thirty first bike last week. I'd stick a "Dart" screen on it because they look nice and work really well and, possibly, a small reflective white pinstripe on both black rims. BTW, the round headlight is perfect on this bike.
I agree the headlight has grown on me to the point that I don’t even want a new LED version like a lot of people do. I honestly love retro things so this bike is perfect 👌 lol congrats on the new bike! Ride safe out there
We all start somehow, don't worry about not having a big bike it's better to learn to ride on something with less power and master it. That way you will have the skills and technical knowledge you can apply to riding a bigger bike one day. It makes you a much better rider than someone that starts on a bigger bike in my opinion.
"makes horsepower" (for example) not "makes...per gallon" ....should be something more like "delivers 70 mpg"etc....just wanting to preserve the English language is all
I am allowed to see it from Japan. I was on the SV400 of the 2006 carburetor specification in Japan. It is a very cool SV650! I also look good blue coloring.
CB650R You get a i4 with substantially more power then anything in its class And beautiful looks. Where I live the CB is only $800 USD more then a SV or MT
Smokin Monkey the SV would be my second choice. V Twins sound better then parallel twins, and the SV has the best torque curve of the bunch. Then the Kawi, then the MT last. Just my style personally.
CB650R was the bike that I used in motorcycle lessons, after that bought an SV650. Where the CB was a great bike, the SV had a lot more character because of the Vtwin torque engine.
i think painting the wheels fluoro yellow could be really good or really bad. May I suggest using a "plastic dip" type spray paint that can be peeled off easily. It is a cheap way to change colour and if you don't like it you can revert back quickly. If you find a colour you love you can get it sprayed professionally and be confident in you choice. You could also add some colour accents to the bodywork cheaply and easily using vinyl wrap which is also easily removed.
Just took my 17 sv650 on a 800 mile weekend trip. I put a givi windscreen on it and through some saddlebags over the backseat. It was actually really comfortable and had plenty of power.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG I think it does a good job while still looking good. I mean I prefer the look without it but on a long trip it would be pretty tiring. It's easy to take on and off too. Once it's assembled it's just 2 bolts attached to the bike. And on that I've had it on for a couple thousand miles and it hasn't come loose.
Okay good to know. I plan to pick one up in the near future. As well as the OEM Meter Visor. I hear they are good for breaking up the wind pressure on your body as well. I’ll have to get both and do a comparison to see if the Meter Visor is maybe better for everyday use.
MT/FZ07 get around 60 mpg when I’m just riding normally, kicking around town. How much better mileage do you expect? They are basically the same bike. You won’t go wrong with either choice.
The sv650 might be more simple in design , but looks a lot more solid , love the exposed fame, and there's hardly any plastic on the bike , love the looks myself personally.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG I guess I'm biased because I own 1, I got a silver one with blue frame, you know the blue paint that you said suzuki dont do a great job on and looks shit , thanks for insulting my bike , appreciate it haha
I feel ya. Sometimes when it's super hot I just don't feel like putting on jeans to ride. The only problem is it kind of dictates how fast and where you ride. Question for you SM, have you been bitten by the variety bug? Cause now I'm thinking I need to buy a duel sport to go with my street bike to go off roading too.
Yes!! I totally have that feeling I’ve been wanting either a dual sport or a mini bike like grom or Z125 Pro haha just want something different to be able to ride once in a while. Might try to pick one up for the channel for next season!
Thanks man! I agree blue rims or even green. I actually love the way the lime green rims look on the gsxr’s with the blue paint but not sure if I can get the same effect with the SV
Nice bike and you make some great videos.. love the drone shots. I’m looking at buying an SV650 next week. Regarding the fuel capacity .. its not 17.5L cos that would be pretty bad fuel consumption if you only get 300kms (roughly 17km per litre) All of the specs i looked at say 14.5L in US, Canada, Europe, Asia & Australia (where i live). Is your fuel tank empty when you reach 300kms or do you hit 300 when the low fuel warning light flashes cos usually when they flash you will usually have about 3 litres in reserve. According to Suzuki its should use around 3.8L/100kms ..... anyway look forward to seeing more videos from you
Yes you are correct!! It’s 14.5 litters I made a mistake. And the light will flash at 4.2 litres and then once the last bar is gone it flashes still but with only 1.7liters remaining
Thanks bro ... so do you hit 300kms when the light starts flashing or when the last bar is gone? Just trying to get an idea of what is the most kms i can get out of the tank before i need to fill up. I ride in mostly rural areas so fuel stations are further apart than the city.
2018 MT-07 3.75 gal tank. Went 166 miles in city traffic before the gas flashed E. I generally have about 40 miles in reserve so it gets about 190-200miles on a tank. The SV does look better and I hear the suspension is better on the SV. I like the ergos of the MT better.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG I work in an intensive care unit here in Denmark, and I see the results of the kind: GSX-R+t-shirt+sandals+shorts every week. Not funny, not cool, not relaxed. according to sprintmotor, average consumption for 2016-now sv650 is 4.1 l/100km, for mt07 is 4.2 l/100km and for z650 is 4.45 l/100km. sv650 fuel tank is 13.8 L, only honda cb500 has a bigger fuel tank with 17.7 L despite around 3.4 l/100km for average

Good video 👍 I tested the MT07 also (two testrides about an hour each) and tested the SV650 and the SV650X afterwards. Felt more comfortable on the SV an bought the SV650X after testriding it for about 350 km (Great dealer i have here)! 😎 For the rims: test white rims first on a foto...
2019 S650 ABS fuel capacity spec =14.5 liters(3.83 gal) not 17.5 liters(4.5gal)... The SV gas tank since 2017 is 14.5 Liters.. If you got 186 miles out of a tank: 186mi/3.83gal=48.5 mpg, which is about right.... if you got 186 mi out of 4.5 gal, then you mileage is 41.3 mpg, which is low... Only the Gen 2 were 17.0 liters... I like your mods and reviews... please accept this as a correction for your fans.. My 2017 Vstrom 650 XT is 20 Liters for comparison... A 2020 SV650 will soon partner and compliment my VSTROM 650... his was just to
A V twin engine sounds better than a parallel twin, especially when engine braking at about 20 mph. Parallel twins are cheaper to build- only 1 head, and Yamahas might be more reliable overall compared to other brands. A lot of it is sitting on them to see which one feels and looks better to you. I am most attracted to a Yamaha Tracer 900 and a Kawasaki H2 supercharged sport tourer, however they cost more and are too much engine and braking power for a beginner- I started riding on the streets in 1980. I have a 2002 Honda V twin and a 2008 Kawasaki inline 4 now, one with 30 horsepower and the other with 90 horsepower, both have 600cc. They both get about 55 mpg when rode normally, after rejetting the slower one for more power but losing about 5 mpg.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG the V twin sounds best when engine braking at 20 mph, and the inline 4 sounds best at 13,000 rpm at its maximum power. I ride one on Saturdays, and the other on Sundays. If one needs a new battery or new tires, I can slowly get it done while riding the other one.
I reckon what would look good on this bike is a short cone exhaust... but it should sit flat and low much like the MT07... You have bar end mirrors, and round headlight, if you could do that it will look a bit more cafe racer - but that's where I find the seat design is not really cafe racer on this model, its more like a sports bike. So it may look a bit odd, not sure, haven't seen it.
I actually really like the yoshimura exhaust and the new seat I got gives the bike a bit more of a cafe look if you check out some of my most recent videos
i like the design of the Gladius SV, but man they did a huge improvement on this one. A round LED headlight that resembles the Vitpilen 401 would be my first mod, maybe painting the chrome ring in black matte also.
Nice bike, I'm eyeballing the same but license goes first. Talking about mods, did you see the sw motech scrambler kit? Reckon the blue would look with a brown saddle.
Im debating between this bike and the Honda CB650F... still dont know what I want. anyone have any recommendation and why? Im upgrading from a 300 so both are better. The main use is about an hour of commuting couple times a week in LA traffic.
Honestly they are both great bikes and are very similar. It will come down to personal preference in the end, I would test both if you have the chance but they are such similar bikes I would go with your gut and get the one that you like more even if you don’t test them. Good luck on your next bike purchase! Ride safe man
Sold out everywhere when I was looking for my bike! & believe it or not I’m wearing all my gear except the jacket which I’m wearing a motorcycle vest instead for the video as I’m not actually going far just enough to make the video. If you check out some of my actual rides I’m always wearing full gear (jacket with elbow pads shoulder pads back pad and chest piece, full leather gloves, alpinestars riding boots, helmet of course and a good attitude hahaha!)
Dope video, dope bike !!! Thinking about buying one for my first street bike ever. Question for you tho, where'd you get those engine slider/guards from ?!
Yas! Got a question for yah! What about passenger seat? Is it comfortable or not (could you rate it 1-5)? Thank you from Europe, love your videos, definetely I'm gonna get an SV650
I haven’t had anyone on the new tuck and roll seat but the stock one is quite thin at the passenger section and definitely not comfortable for long rides. I would say 2/5 for the stock seat. The tuck and roll I still have to test with passengers
both are great bikes. I chose the SV with ABS and love it. The 90 degree V-twin is super smooth. The bike feels nimble and planted at the same time. The SV fits me better (i am 6'2"). The 07 is a little lighter but the difference is not that much. With me (200lbs) on it, the SV weighs ~637lbs, the 07 ~603lbs. The SV engine is tried and true and has been refined over many years. Plus it has been shown to be super reliable. Cant go wrong with the SV.
bigger cylinders on the 645cc SV650 than on the 689cc MT07?? You sure about that fella?? The SV cylinders are 1mm taller but 6mm narrower ;) ...... MT makes more torque than the SV, BHP is damn near the same .. yet the MT is a full 20KG lighter. I own an MT but have ridden a couple of SV650s in the past .. the SV is a decent ride with a great engine but it has dated styling (that swing arm is 99% the same as on the 1998 GS500 I owned!!) and isn't as fun as the MT in my opinion ... but the SV is a bit cheaper. Not much in it between them in all honesty ... for me though the MT feels fresher, looks nicer and is more fun to ride :)
Pretty sure since the cylinder bore on the SV650 is larger than that of the MT07. And yes the 689cc I just checked myself. You’re the first person to have said they like the MT07 better so I guess to each is own. Gotta ride what makes you happy right! And I agree about the swing arm it’s dated but it is what it is the rest of the bike looks awesome in my opinion as does the MT07 just not for me. Ride safe!
Couldn’t buy anything I wanted because of insurance so I found something else I wanted but it wasn’t my first choice. However it’s my fav naked bike which is why I bought it; i wouldn’t spend the money if I didn’t like it lol
Every manual/standard vehicle will creep when releasing the clutch but the SV650 actually adds throttle I guess people are thinking the creeping effect is the same thing and getting mixed up.
Paint the rims same White & blue as the tank. I Think bronze rims like the CB650 has would also work. :)Great vid, im getting a sv650 for my first bike!
how fast have you had your SV650? I have a 2018 SV650.. I get an average of 51-52 MPG. I've had mine up to 110MPH. I have noticed that when I'm riding in sixth gear and running about 100MPH the bike starts to loose power. it's hard to get up past 104MPH after 7,000RPM. it has plenty of throttle and plenty of RPMs, I think the computer is killing the fuel after a certain speed. also as for the aftermarket parts,,,it is almost impossible to find shit for the 2018 SV650. and if you do find any you will pay out the ASS for it. I bought a wind screen for mine a puig made for the 2017 SV650 it cost $160 and is the cheapest piece of shit. it looks good, but my God what a cheap ass wind screen.
I’ve had it up to 112mph and it felt like it wanted to keep going but I ran out of room on the road where I was at the time. I’ve seen videos of people hitting 136mph on theirs. And aftermarket parts are usually sold out that’s why they charge so much because they know people will pay for the shit lol once the bike is out for a few more years I believe the aftermarket should get more variety thus bringing down the prices.
@@gibememoni how did you get it to go that fast? I found that if I run high RPMs in 4th, and keep the RPMs up in 5th, I can get over 100 MPH then shift into 6th to get the bike up to 110 MPH. But then ran out of road... Lol
had it at an indicated 126 mph and she still had some left to give. Highly recommend the MRA Racing windshield. Works very well esp at higher speeds. Ride safe.
Smokin Monkey Haha word. I’m usually a fan of anything retro looking...except when it comes to motorbikes lol. Love everything about the bike except for that light but like you, I’m sure it would grow on me too.
I purchased a CB650F in April, Loving it lots so far , has a 17.3 L tank, I think I’ve come close to 300km but I don’t pay too much attention as I usually ride it hard, my avg is 6.5 L/100Km Also purchased a 2005 SV650S just yesterday, curious how it compares to the current gen
Love those bikes I was pretty close to buying one myself. I don’t care too much about gas mileage myself but I lost it for others that may be curious. It’s a motorcycle, I don’t but it for anything but having fun
They are plenty of fun, I have started considering changing the gearing up for more torque in the bottom as I’ve realized I don’t use that 230+kmh anyways only, that’s where the twins and triples come in a little stronger they seem to have more bottom end torque then the inline 4
I hear you, it is growing on me
raysup I’m 25 and agree with you lol
raysup agree. The XSR is a more retro version of the MT but costs the same as a CB650R, and with the CB you get Honda’s superior fit and finish and and a substantially more powerful i4
I'm 19 and I agree :)
I am 29 and I agreed, this and the new honda cb650 are so beautiful
I had a sv650 03. Now I have a 2017 vstrom 650, the engines are great!
I agree great engine! Good power delivery
i used to eat bananas now i eat apples the tastes is great
At least you’re getting your nutrition
@@THE-BUTT-DOCTOR lol
Hmm guess I need to try the bigger tire!
Did you have to modify anything to fit the 180/55 or did you manage without modification?
@@aeRo_motorcycle I just had to make sure there was enough clearence at the swing arm as the bigger tyre makes it a close thing.
@@yonniboy1 did u use stock rims? And any changes done to swingarm?
@@s11039858 Yes I kept stock rims with no change to the swingarm, just made sure it was perfectly aligned as there's not much space between the tyre and swingarm.
I have a 18 gsxr 1000 and I want one of these. Just looks like such a clean, comfortable, practical, fun little machine.
This bike is kinda being forgotten just by being around and being good for such a long time.
Ya I know what you mean
'They changed the name in Europe' (MT-07)
Ehh, It has always been MT-07 in the rest of the world. It was only ever 'FZ' in America...
My mistake haha I knew they had it named different somewhere else but I wasn’t 100%
Which one are you referring too for $250?
Good luck on your search bro! They are awesome bikes for sure not surprised that people aren’t selling em
Exactly my impression.
JudoAndrew totally agree
are you high or stupid? I just bought my 2018 SV650 for $5,700, NEW. it had 1 mile on it. and why would you want to buy someone's abortion(used bike). you know that asshole abused the shit out of the bike,,,that's why they want to dump it on a sucker like you.
@@redhytech I literally just stumbled across this bike after seeing it BRAND NEW for $4,997 at a dealership online near me...This bike wasn't even on my radar, but from what I'm noticing this is an absolute steal and I feel like I gotta jump on it!!!
I ride a vstrom650 which has the same engine in it. Very durable and reliable. Can’t kill them.
Sweet bike! Totally agree with you the engines are bulletproof
I tested both. The only thing that is better on 07 is the seat. So SV wins bigtime! Gonna buy soon.
Haha glad to see so many people agree with me! Good luck on the new bike!
Hell YEAH. do it. you will not regret it. the seat on the SV does suck,, but what are you gonna do.. I haven't found a replacement,,,YET. LOL
I had an sv650s for 3 years.Excellent bike!Engine is a gem!
Their a bit of a pain as a town commuter though. Wrists get sore after a while
I'm really having a hard time in choosing between the sv650 and the mt07, and this really helped! thanks man!
No problem glad I could help!
@@redhytech so it’s fast enough to have fun ?
I agree! We need a SV1000 again
😌Im proud to say I love my 05 sv650, may not be like your 600 gixxer, but its suits just fine for me.
Had 2 sv650’s
Now own an mt07, there 2 huge reasons why I would buy an mt07 over an Sv
1- the sound
2 - so much more fun!
Gotta ride what you like!
A cannot agree with the sound reason, as SV sounds much better than MT for me, and that was probably the major reason I've bought my SV650
Awesome bike man either way! Glad you’re happy with your choice man ride safe out there
I had 2017 SV650 for 14 months, from new.
Thanks man!
Bought a 2018 SV650...sparkle black with the red frame. Gets a lot of attention. Better suspension than the MT07. SV is a great bike. MT was a little too hooligan for me. I'm older.
Awesome bike man love the colour scheme!
That’s what I thought but I’ve had people comment the MT07 has this feature as well
I started on a 2008 SV650S 9 years ago.
It's that kind of bike that you only realize how good it is if you ride another one! I miss a lot my 1999 SV650 :)
Totally agree it’s such a well balanced machine
I like to wheelie and loved the 2019 mt 07 and the sound with akra carbon, put 5000km on it in 2 months love the powerwheelies
Definitely love the green/yellow wheels on the MT07 I can’t get enough of that look
Fully agree, both are good bikes with some different strength, however I've chosen another one for me:
The Honda NC750S,.
Drawbacks:
It is heavy, but you wont notice riding.
It has a very small rpm range so you shift more on twisty roads
Clutch and Gearbox on mine are for sure not best in class
My NC is black with black rims. Other colors for rims are only better if you like cleaning them :D
Love the NC series I actually started out on a CBR250R and owned a few Honda cars in the years so I love all Honda’s stuff. Great bike man!
I didn't ride the SV so far, but I am quite sure it is a more precise and sporty bike the while the MT is kinda a muscle car in its category and the NC has some genes from a cruiser when it comes to its engine and wheelbase for me :)
Your videos are the reason why I bought this exact bike, thanks man! I ❤ my SV
They’re really underrated bikes. I still have mine and it’s still going strong
Totally! Gotta get what you’re gonna enjoy more
You made the right choice man, I owned a sv650 10 years ago that blows my current 2019 mt07 out of the water in terms of power.
It definitely does that’s part of the reason the bike sucks so bad because ignition timing and fuel maps are all designed for fuel economy the bike stock runs lean as hell and isn’t even at 70% capacity it’s a total trash can until you tune it
I agree with your comment about the MT having a throw away feel to it. The SV feels much more substantial and solid.
I have the 2018 black with red frame, I have almost 6000 miles on mine, I've also put alot of aftermarket parts on it too

Hotbodies, Growler slip-on
Hotbodies, hand controls
PUIG, rear tire hugger
EVO TECH, radiator grill
K&N, air filter

RevZilla, center tank pad
I have a few videos on TH-cam too
Love that color combo! Sweet bike man. Ride safe
My mt 07 is getting close to 65 mmg and the bike only has 1000 miles on it. I prefer the yamahas styling to the Sv. I can get over 150 miles to my 14 litre tank. And love the mt’s low down torque.
Glad you got a bike you love man! Gotta ride what you like
Some only can put 11.5 L in the tank :o
Look at the colors of your gloves dude! They go perfectly together. The color of your rims should be (fluo) yellow or shiny bright gold if you want to have a classy old school touch.
You’re not wrong lol
🌗 paint half the rim white and the other half 🌗 blue. Thank you for sharing
Ride safe out there
I love suzuki engine...i'm looking forward to have this bike someday...now i just have the gsx150...
We all start somehow, don't worry about not having a big bike it's better to learn to ride on something with less power and master it. That way you will have the skills and technical knowledge you can apply to riding a bigger bike one day. It makes you a much better rider than someone that starts on a bigger bike in my opinion.
MT-7 does 54.70 miles to the gallon or 23.2 km per litre or 4.3 per 100 km. 🏍 SV650 does 70.62 miles to the gallon or 30 km per litre 🏍
This guy knows his stuff!
"makes horsepower" (for example) not "makes...per gallon" ....should be something more like "delivers 70 mpg"etc....just wanting to preserve the English language is all
@@dougiequick1 since I'm not English I think I do pretty well but thank you for the English lesson, I'm always keen to improve. 👍
Mine sv650 2017 does 75.6MPG (3.7l/100km) when turing and around 58-60 MPG on motorway commute
there is noway a 650 cc bike is burning 3.3 litre on normal riding
Cant wait to upgrade my silver 2006 sv650 to one of these.
You won’t be disappointed!
the round headlight is the main reason i want my first bike to be an SV650 over like the yamahas, or anything
I am allowed to see it from Japan.
I was on the SV400 of the 2006 carburetor specification in Japan.
It is a very cool SV650! I also look good blue coloring.
Thanks!! Hope to visit Japan one day soon!!
did either bike have a more forward sitting position or do they both make you sit with a straight back?
I rode a 2020 sv650 and there is the most minimal amount of pressure of your arms. Pretty straight back
CB650R
You get a i4 with substantially more power then anything in its class
And beautiful looks.
Where I live the CB is only $800 USD more then a SV or MT
I love those bikes but they were sold out everywhere when I was buying my bike unfortunately. But I don’t regret the SV650
Totally if I did it I would use plasti dip for the first try to see how it looks. Just haven’t had a chance to get around to it
Just took my 17 sv650 on a 800 mile weekend trip. I put a givi windscreen on it and through some saddlebags over the backseat. It was actually really comfortable and had plenty of power.
I’m thinking of picking up a windscreen to test. How’s the Givi at speed?
Totally agree
@@SmokinMonkeyOG I guess I'm biased because I own 1, I got a silver one with blue frame, you know the blue paint that you said suzuki dont do a great job on and looks shit , thanks for insulting my bike , appreciate it haha
The wheels are painted like shit on the blue ones but the bike and frame are fine. I havent seen any issues on the bikes themselves haha
I'm gonna write this before I read any other comments...
I have to say that matching blue rim's would look wicked larr!
Much love from Yorkshire
Thanks man! I agree blue rims or even green. I actually love the way the lime green rims look on the gsxr’s with the blue paint but not sure if I can get the same effect with the SV
@@SmokinMonkeyOG the contrast between the blue and green could cool. A loud screeming green tho!
Taniwhais I hit 300km once the last bar starts to flash so 4.2 litres remaining
Great review.. Currently loving my SV650. Looking into getting frame sliders. What brand are you currently using?
Those are the shogun frame sliders
2018 MT-07 3.75 gal tank. Went 166 miles in city traffic before the gas flashed E. I generally have about 40 miles in reserve so it gets about 190-200miles on a tank.
The SV does look better and I hear the suspension is better on the SV. I like the ergos of the MT better.
Ya you gotta ride what makes you happy
Smokin Monkey I wish I could afford both.
Please! Riding in a t-shirt and shorts ? Do you have any idea what will happen to your body if you fall even at only 30 miles per hour?
Yes I do
@@SmokinMonkeyOG I work in an intensive care unit here in Denmark, and I see the results of the kind: GSX-R+t-shirt+sandals+shorts every week. Not funny, not cool, not relaxed. Leave it to brainless tourists on mopeds. And it can leave pain and problems forever.
I have an old 750 Bol d'or and even though it is warm, I have a leather jacket, pants, gloves and boots.
The SV is a lovely bike and you give a good review. Look like a rider and not a tourist.

@@DominicNS Call it what your want, laugh at me, I just know what I see. I've experienced a 40 M/ph tumble and I still remember what my leather pants looked like afterwards. In Germany, if you don't have the right equipment, your insurance won't pay in case of accident. Is it for no reason ? Just to be irritating and square ?
I am not square and I don't look like an amateur who only rides on Sunday when the sun is shining.
@@74aspi right. So you are basing your view that everyone should use based off your own experiences where you live? Understand that not all insurance is the same especially if it's not even in the same country. Get off your high horse thinking you are better then people who don't ride with gear.
according to sprintmotor, average consumption for 2016-now sv650 is 4.1 l/100km, for mt07 is 4.2 l/100km and for z650 is 4.45 l/100km.
sv650 fuel tank is 13.8 L, only honda cb500 has a bigger fuel tank with 17.7 L despite around 3.4 l/100km for average
Cool bike.If you are looking for more colours on wheels, you can get some cool wheel stickers, and you don’t need to paint the rims
I love the SV 650 and it would be one of my picks. I have a old 919 which I love although and I am only allowed one bike. Nice bike Mate. I love the round headlight, sound, and style of the SV. Greetings from South Australia
Hey man I appreciate it! Hope to visit Australia soon looks like such a beautiful place to ride!
Keep the 919, that’s an amazing bike.
Is classic style is one's thing then why not look at XSR700 that is built on MT-07 frame?
I don’t like the look of those bikes
@@SmokinMonkeyOG Funny how oppinions can differ. I personally like them way more than the SV650 :)
US changed from FZ 07 to MT07. Bike always called MT in Europe. Allegedly MT stands for monster torque?
Ah okay good to know! And no idea what it stands for to be honest man

In the US does it come limited in HP?. I know in spain it does, and in Colombia i'm not sure.
Not that I know of but I’ve never heard that about a motorcycle before so I don’t know anymore lol I know that it’s limited to the horsepower it comes with until you do upgrades and tune it so I still don’t know exactly what to say man lol
It's smart to wear a rosary instead of knee pucks
Actually like that idea 👍 wear both if anything haha
Good video 👍
I tested the MT07 also (two testrides about an hour each) and tested the SV650 and the SV650X afterwards. Felt more comfortable on the SV an bought the SV650X after testriding it for about 350 km (Great dealer i have here)! 😎
For the rims: test white rims first on a foto...
Sweet bike man congrats! And ya I would most likely do some renders first
2019 S650 ABS fuel capacity spec =14.5 liters(3.83 gal) not 17.5 liters(4.5gal)... A 2020 SV650 will soon partner and compliment my VSTROM 650...

where is your country??

I agree but I think inline 4 sound best of all! Nice bikes man definitely two different animals that’s for sure.
Good system
I reckon what would look good on this bike is a short cone exhaust... but it should sit flat and low much like the MT07...
You have bar end mirrors, and round headlight, if you could do that it will look a bit more cafe racer - but that's where I find the seat design is not really cafe racer on this model, its more like a sports bike. So it may look a bit odd, not sure, haven't seen it.
I actually really like the yoshimura exhaust and the new seat I got gives the bike a bit more of a cafe look if you check out some of my most recent videos
Hello from 2021. Quality content, had a few good lols, thanks.
Thanks!
i like the design of the Gladius SV, but man they did a huge improvement on this one. A round LED headlight that resembles the Vitpilen 401 would be my first mod, maybe painting the chrome ring in black matte also.
I think I will do end up painting it too just didn’t get around to it last season.
Nice bike, I'm eyeballing the same but license goes first. Talking about mods, did you see the sw motech scrambler kit? Reckon the blue would look with a brown saddle.
Thanks man, Yes I have! Can’t seem to find the seat anywhere though! I agree the brown would look nice! Good luck on getting your bike!
@@SmokinMonkeyOG slichtly different but with brown seat is C-racer based in Athens Greece
I’m thinking a flake root beer or gold/bronze for the wheels/frame eventually would look great :)
Ride safe man
Motodemic has a led option for this bike.
Thanks man I’ll check it out
My only problem with a naked bike is catching bugs on my helmet visor. Do you have much of a problem on the sv650?
Unless you drive a Harley with a 2 foot windscreen you’re gonna get bugs on your visor.
Great bike should have got black with red frame and wear to correct gear on your bike very scary
Thanks man! I got em online. They’re always sold out everywhere so I just kept checking until they were in stock lol they’re the shogun frame sliders
@@SmokinMonkeyOG word ! gonna hunt em down, thx !
Sv is the best bro,,, from anyside,, the design is so elegant so simple but cool,,,my dream bike ever,,,just dream😣😩😫😭 i want that bike so bad!!
Stay focused and you’ll achieve your dream sooner than you think!
Good video man
Thanks man
Have you tried the Yamaha xsr-700? Regards Mick
Unfortunately I have not but I want to try one soon!
the name of the mt07 was changed in the usa... not in europe. cause the bike its called mt07 worlwide, only in north america it is called fz07...
Now I believe it’s universal everywhere they made it simple for everyone and called it the MT07 all over the world
Had Fz07 for 2 years, sold it and bought 2002 mazda Miata😂😂😂
Lmao gotta drive what you like I guess
both are great bikes.
I sold my sfv650 to trade in the crf150 and supercub. Now I am thinking about getting the sv650...
I just put a deposit on a 2020 sv650. should have by weeks end:] so excited!
Congrats!!!
bigger cylinders on the 645cc SV650 than on the 689cc MT07??
Ride safe!
@@SmokinMonkeyOG another vote for the mt07 so much lighter and more fun for me 😁
There’s something for everyone out there! Glad you found a bike you love man
You don’t like round headlight and didn’t want a v twin, but you bought a sv650??
Couldn’t buy anything I wanted because of insurance so I found something else I wanted but it wasn’t my first choice. However it’s my fav naked bike which is why I bought it; i wouldn’t spend the money if I didn’t like it lol
The mt07 also gives a little bit throttle when your release the clutch.. 👍
Nice I didn’t notice it when I test rode it
@@SmokinMonkeyOG maybe just less than the sv..
No it doesn't.
Every manual/standard vehicle will creep when releasing the clutch but the SV650 actually adds throttle I guess people are thinking the creeping effect is the same thing and getting mixed up.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG I know, almost all new Suzuki motorcycles have the easy start assist, that is the thing you are talking about.
Paint the rims same White & blue as the tank. I Think bronze rims like the CB650 has would also work. :)Great vid, im getting a sv650 for my first bike!
Thanks man! Great choice, you won’t be disappointed!
Hi. Is this a standard (stock) handlebar?
Yes
isn't the MT-07 about 50lbs. lighter?
Ya 40-50lbs lighter that’s right
@@SmokinMonkeyOG more like 30 based on manufacturer specs
how fast have you had your SV650?
And aftermarket parts are usually sold out that’s why they charge so much because they know people will pay for the shit lol once the bike is out for a few more years I believe the aftermarket should get more variety thus bringing down the prices.
hit 135mph easy on my 06 naked
@@gibememoni how did you get it to go that fast? I found that if I run high RPMs in 4th, and keep the RPMs up in 5th, I can get over 100 MPH then shift into 6th to get the bike up to 110 MPH. But then ran out of road... Lol
@@redhytech it took forever after around 120mph i don't recommend doing it. my sv was an 08 and it was bone stock, naked. i weigh 160lbs.
had it at an indicated 126 mph and she still had some left to give. Highly recommend the MRA Racing windshield. Works very well esp at higher speeds. Ride safe.
Feel the same way about the round headlights. Been trying to decide between the two bikes... difficult decision.
Honestly it’s grown on me I don’t mind it as much as I used too haha but it’s still not my favourite style of headlight
Smokin Monkey Haha word. I’m usually a fan of anything retro looking...except when it comes to motorbikes lol. Love everything about the bike except for that light but like you, I’m sure it would grow on me too.
I purchased a CB650F in April, Loving it lots so far , has a 17.3 L tank, I think I’ve come close to 300km but I don’t pay too much attention as I usually ride it hard, my avg is 6.5 L/100Km
Also purchased a 2005 SV650S just yesterday, curious how it compares to the current gen
Ya I love the sounds of inline 4 engines but the power delivery from the v twin is amazing. Great torque all the way through the rpm range
Hi !
Did you finally find a led headlight ?
