One year later, and I'm guessing Renegade Studios saw this video. As of the release of Age of Annihilation, they increased the point values of several older unites to balance competitive play. Marro Warriors are now 105, Raelin is 125 and Grimnak is 160. (Yes there are other units who got the point increase, but I'm just focusing on Rise of the Valkyrie.
I absolutely loved this and think your analysis is spot on. Not only did you show how knowledgeable you were, but you also did a great job with your reading/voiceover work. I've never tried that Torin-Zettian build, but I've been looking for an excuse to get him on the table more. I really hope you keep the series going! Liked and subscribed, no question!
Appreciate the kind words and support! I'm eager to continue this series. So far the response has been positive, so safe to assume more is on the way. This video took a long time to make, so no telling when the next installment will be ready. But I've got my process down for the most part, so hopefully not too far off either. Cheers!
Oh my god there is a small but passionate group of people keeping hero’s ape alive?! This is exactly the news I needed today. Thanks for your contribution to the community!
Just got this recommended to me. You did a great job! Was fun to hear your opinions on the OG figures. One thing I would recommend is having a "synergy" category in addition to pros and cons. That way the "pros" category can focus more on gameplay and the synergy is highlighted separately
Thanks for the comment! And that's a great idea. I'd have to find a way to negotiate the limited real estate I have on screen for all that info, but I'll give it a try.
My man! A pleasant surprise to see you here! I remember back as kids you always did the Deathwalkers/Zetts, Clay always did the Marro and I...don't think I had a shtick of my own back then. Ah, the good ol' days. Hope you and your family are doing well, and thanks for stopping by!
Your video is at least successful enough for it to be showing up in my recommended feed, and I agreed with and was entertained by your assessments overall. I'm going to subscribe and eagerly await a sequel.
I really enjoyed the depth of detail based on your perspective. It makes me want to relook at these heroes and squads we might tend to pass on. Keep up the content! You certainly need more subs! Will give your channel a shout out the next ToV Podcast!
Hey, I just found this video. It was really informative and helped me prepare for my first ever tournaments, which I'll be attending soon at Gencon. I appreciate that you address the thematic and story elements of the units along with their actual mechanics and abilities. That's the kind of thing tier lists sometimes don't mention, but the thematic elements are what drew me to Heroscape in the first place. I hope you'll eventually make more tier lists.
I still remember when my mom got me the core set for Christmas when I was a wee lad, top 3 gifts she ever gave me. No one wanted to play until my late teens. Airborne elite were so cool as a kid. I had no idea I'd be an ork man through and through to this day.
There seems to be a small typo and audio issue. When Ne-Gok-Sa is about to get ranked, the screen shows an A and makes it sound like you said A. Since he's obviously S-tier, I can expect you to put up a revised video tomorrow, fixing this issue But this is a wonderful video and I can't wait for more!
Impressive analysis on this set. The first and only master set I currently have for the past 10+ years is #2 Swarm of the Marro and hope to see your ranking video on it soon! 😁💙👍🏼🙏🏼🤞🏼
Awesome video. I loved heroscape as a kid and had almost every expansion. I should really bust open the old tote bin of minis. Anyway I would love to see more videos in this style, it’s interesting to see how the wider community views units compared to how my friends and I used them. For example I looooooved Deathwalker 9000, I knew he wasn’t strictly “good” but little me loved taking a bunch of turns with him and watch as my enemies tried futilely to break through his defenses.
Love this video man! Great stuff. Definitely opened my eyes to a few characters I haven’t used that much. Hope to see more of these videos in the future!
Loved this and look forward to the rest of the series. I not only thought you were very fair and thorough, but you also introduced me to a few strategies that I hadn’t heard of before. Great job!
I'm rebasing a bunch of C3V units and this is the perfect series to throw one while I work! I appreciate your insights and everything feels spot on. Amazing work!
I really enjoyed this discussion of the units. I would definitely listen through each episode if you went through all of them. I forget if you mentioned this at all, but will you incorporate the customs into your discussion, eventually? Or stick with Classic Scape? I have personally barely touched the surface of the customs, so any discussion would be interesting to me.
Thanks for your comment and glad you liked it. I've actually started on the next video in this series, though it may take some time to complete. If this turns into a successful series, Valhalla Customs are definitely on my mind for future installments, but I'd want to get to them after covering all the official units first. If I did, I'd approach those units in the Waves they were introduced by VC. But that's looking very, very far into the future. We'd still have all the Classic and DnD Waves to get through and the other 2 master sets (3 if we do Marvel) before then. Either way, appreciate your thoughts!
@@doggindays2631 Makes sense, and sounds like a great plan. If you are familiar enough with VC, you could mention which VC units pair with each Classic unit, when you discuss the armies and synergies.
@@doggindays2631 I would like to further ask if plan to do a breakdown of the AoA units in the distant future. We may not have the figures, but we have (most of) the cards and a new team looking to fill in whichever ones we don't, so I'm interested to see how they get assessed as time goes on.
Absolutely! The scope and style of these videos have developed, and expanded, quite a bit since I did this first one. So the next I'm working on is long...but it'll be in the same vein as all the others. More to come, and thanks for the comment!
@DogginDays well crafted video. I know I'm a year late. But my Heroscape searches are on the uptick considering the 20th year anniversary and the new Master Set. Will you be covering these new additions to Heroscape?
Ne-Gok-Sa will always be my favorite unit. My best memory of Heroscape as a kid was winning a Toys-R-Us tournament (against the only other entrant) with him. My opponent was kicking my ass the entire time until, with Ne-Gok-Sa as my sole surviving unit, I landed a desperation Mind Shackle on her big dragon. She definitely got robbed lol
I feel you. Ohio and surrounding Midwest states always struck me as good HS territory, but maybe it's harder to set up than I thought. I've got my own group as well, but it's not often we're all in the area to do in-person games. That said, I'd like to do a video on this channel talking about the Heroscape mod for Tabletop Simulator--by far my favorite way to play after in-person. Limitless army possibilities and all you need is the game and an internet connect to play. Good way to connect with people from around the world and much cheaper than buying the figures!
It would help a lot to show the other cards you're mentioning on the right side of the screen for comparison. A lot of it relies on existing knowledge of the characters to know what you're referring to.
I agree. I'll be adding something like that in the next tier list. I'm thinking when I bring up a comparison unit, that unit's card will replace my bullet point pros/cons on the right side of the screen. Thanks for the input!
The Marro Warriors are somewhat overrated. 4 range attacks/turn for 50 points, 3 defense, and 6 movement are all quite solid. However, 2 attack with 0 upside makes them very middling attackers. Their water clone is a pretty overrated. You can't attack with them when you try it and even then can whiff. It is super situational. It is only semi viable in the endgame, but it would have to be very specific endgame situations since if your opponent is attacking and all you are trying to do is clone then it is already a lost cause. I guess the ideal situation is maybe you somehow find an opponent who is nice enough to just pass for multiple turns without attacking in the endgame just out of pity?
All good points. The Water Clone being done instead of attacking, and having a chance to fail, I think are good things. They're effective enough already within those limitations. I think a big reason they're so well regarded is their point cost of 50. It's a steal for a unit with their stats--a unit that, while unreliably, can generate. And on water, 10 or higher is a coin flip. Not bad odds if you ask me. 2 attack is no doubt poor, but it's also average for a ranged squad. And it has a decent chance of doing damage against 3 defense or lower. With their 6 Move (rather fast), they can also grab height fairly quickly, meaning they're often putting out 4 attacks of 3 at range. I've played against them in tournament games and they're often sent out early to snipe my Raelin. Even if they never Water Clone in a game, all they need to do is kill 50 points worth of the enemy and they've justified their own points. But I appreciate your take. Not everyday I hear an argument that the Warriors aren't A+ units.
not bad i usaly avoid metas because i feel it optimizes the fun out of a game and games arer ment to be fun and escape from work or life imo but worth looking into

You should absolutely do this for other sets! Great breakdown, especially for someone who is just getting back into heroscape
Thank you! That's definitely the plan, and I've started writing out the breakdowns for the next video. May be a while, but it's in the cooker.

nice to see new more "modern" contents to heroscape :D and a tier list is definitively an S Tier :P
I occasionally watch HeroScape videos, and stumbled across this one. SO well done. I hope you do indeed make more!
This is probably the best version of this type of tier list ove seen for heroscape
It isnt close
Please make more when able

I'm glad you enjoyed it and greatly appreciate the support! If this gains a bit more traction, I'll give Wave 1 the same treatment. Cheers!
ToV brought me but I stayed for the high quality analysis, I'd love to see more of this in the future!
This was a really cool video and I agree with your rankings. I really hope to see more of these for the other master sets and expansions!

Would love to see more! I’ve always wanted an in depth look at units. I would do some myself, but don’t have the time to do it the way I want.
I really enjoyed this.
Please keep up the good work.

Thanks, I valued it.
I got got back into this game after like 8 years so im very excited to check this series out
Definitely do more of these! I could watch these for days

Really enjoyed this long form, love playing this game
What’s really interesting to me, is that the actual master set played by itself is really balanced.
No doubt! As a standalone product, it's incredible.
That is an Amazing Video.
Thank you so much for the effort of making it!
Any chance you additional ones for sets 2&3? :)
Absolutely! The scope and style of these videos have developed, and expanded, quite a bit since I did this first one. So the next I'm working on is long...but it'll be in the same vein as all the others. More to come, and thanks for the comment!
I sold my massive collection, worth about $1200 CAD because I was moving...but Heroscape will always have a special place in my heart.
@DogginDays well crafted video. I know I'm a year late. But my Heroscape searches are on the uptick considering the 20th year anniversary and the new Master Set. Will you be covering these new additions to Heroscape?
I ask, before I look at other vids. I am very smart! :D
Yeah but can Marro Warriors get buffed by the Warden? I rest my case.
Ne-Gok-Sa will always be my favorite unit. My best memory of Heroscape as a kid was winning a Toys-R-Us tournament (against the only other entrant) with him. am i the only one that never used order markers?
my friends and i would just take turns moving/attacking once (or twice in syvarris's case) each.
Man I just wish finding other players was easy! I hold games once a month here in Ohio with 2-4 others we need some more!

Hearing first time ever about this Game and it really peaked my interessed.... is it still sold online?
Ending a game by mind shackling the opponent's last hero ... priceless !
good vid!
A reason to use Grenades that you don't cover is that it is a Special Attack and Special Attacks bypass some Defensive Abilites.
That's true! Thanks for pointing that out!
You can mindshakle unique squads!
i love that you unironically gave agent carr a C lmao
Geez you like Mimring sheesh we get it.

Awesome, loving these. I make a lot of customs and these kinda videos give me a better grasp on balancing figures.
Never will forget killing my dads dreaded sir denrick with a lucky chomp before he could decimate my huge figures. Good times
