Stop if your rod is about to break and resume when it's back to normal. This bypasses fish AI and lets you reel in the fish very fast. Just ignore what the fish does on the screen and stick to the pattern.

Yeh low pop servers are very nice and a great way to learn... Ive had this game for a few years and not really been a massive fan of constant dying before i can do anything but after joining a low pop server, its been alot better! Ive actually learned to trap base people... (Im garbage at pvp) but trapping people has been hilarious lol
I love low key strategies like these. My favorite is farming sunken ships in a sub with 3-4 spare scuba tanks that way you almost never have to surface.
Just tried this on a river on the test branch on console it works! If you don’t wanna do the scuba thing and be more inland then the river is for you you just have to put the triangle first above the water a bit and then the square and your good
Aw man, this is gonna give me so much competition for building a fishing village! I was doing this already and would just fish, buying any materials I needed from Outpost or setting up a vending machine at base trading scrap for mats. I could get the entire T1 and T2 tech trees done in about 10 hours of just fishing and watching TH-cam with nearly no hassle from anyone else
Great build I'm absolutely loving this as a solo the only change I made was the triangle that you fish in I set another half wall down so I could add a shelf for 2 furnaces above where I fish I tried 3 furnaces but apparently you can't fish directly under a furnace so 2 it is

It would probaly be smarter to keep the top without doors and upgraded to metal at least. It will force the raiders to use hammers to raid your doors underwater (or use C4). Satchels dont work underwater. If you make 4 triangles on top with turrets and middle having 1 more box square up + windmill, you can also loot any players that pass by the turrets as a bonus. Also instead of a door to tc, you can place a metal window, increasing the raid cost.
@@elliotbeauregard5060 Bases so close to fishing village get raided, no matter how they look. Well you can still make it low key, but just make a door that leads into a honeycomb, in other words a fake door.
I've built this in Console and it works fine. The only issue I have is that it's almost impossible to get close enough to open the repair bench without falling in the water. I've resigned myself to just putting down a triangle twig floor every time I need to reach the bench then demolishing it after..... cheap enough. Other than that, it's good. I didn't put the above-water doors on though... just use the underwater entrance. I don't see much point in putting in the internal walls to honeycomb it though as the base is vulnerable (single wall) all up one end (where you cast into) and also the roof square. May as well leave the internal walls down and have the extra space. Bloody boring though, spending all that time in a stone prison just fishing... fishing... fishing... Still, it serves a purpose and if it gets me all the BPs until the next BP wipe, it's worth the tedium.
I fished up 470 scrap yesterday at fishing village. When night time came, i snuck out to my base thats 4 tiles away. I slapped doen a t2 workbench. As a solo on official server.... It was a good feeling.
fish meat bait size is now 1, so that makes you run out of bait really quickly. got around total of 70 scrap in a whole hour (after loosing the fish for some reason, line didn't slap).
I got it to work, i thought this initially. You need to just move about on the triangle. The distance from the water makes a difference whether you can cast or not.
It's enough to build 1.5 walls deep. Just place foundation as high as possible deep in the water that u'll have 1full underwater. It'll take less materials for the same purpose.
I like to make bank with Low Grade and selling that for profit using the vending machines. I setup one vending machine that accepts Crude Oil for Low Grade, and another for accepting Wood for Low Grade, and have at least 8+ Refineries or more as your production scales, and just watch the Low Grade stockpile up until you have enough in excess to sell for scrap, and if you're lucky maybe drop off 6 slot stacks of low grade at a monument that has a Oil Digger that gives you Crude Oil and you'll be raking in so much Crude Oil to turn into Low Grade. I doubt many people even utilize these Oil Diggers at monuments, especially at places like Water Treatment up on the hill where the big water towers are.
So glad I watched this as a noob whose only built like 5 terrible bases. I unlocked all the weapons in tier 1-2 within 6 hours of total gameplay/fishing. It’s only day 1.5 on my server too 😁
For all yall people watching this a year later, you can get a free fishing rod with some free bait too from the fisherman NPC as part of their first quest
Made this base turning it to 3x1 so it has 3 fishing bays for a trio. Lanterns,boombox, lights all around.. probably the best rust experience we’ve had 😂. Is it worth keeping salmon for scrap too?
right, so the issue with that and why this is better (IMO) is that it allows you to do so very much without paying much attention. The fish cannot get away from you, cannot get under you (to break the line) or any other typical fishing issues. Doing it this way is just much more relaxed and certain. No more lost bait!
I havent played in months, but I would catch sharks at the fishing village all the time and its a safe zone. I did the whole tech tree on scrap from sharks.
it does improve your odds of catching sharks! Docks can catch too, but you run the risk of lines breaking or it getting away from you, which can't happen if done properly in this base!
Consider making the base at night in one go, or at least get the tc pillar to stone and lock it immediately. I tried to do a twig structure first then grab the stone and upgrade, but a hazzy with a db was camping the inside and was blessed with two rows of stone that day. What a play 😅
Note: you can catch all types of fish simply at fishing village dock in the safe zone. Bait is easy too if you know how to manage a fishing rod. Corn, pumpkin, worm or grub. Which all can be found on the way to fishing village. I'm excellent at the ocean. If I fish average is 900 scrap per rod. If I dive 45 mins yields an inventory of comps and around 800 scrap. Enjoy or find you a farmer like me to secure comps, scrap and materials for upkeep. Js it's that simple without any frustration.
ahh lol u just uncover my secret of 1 box of scrap on wipe day....fastest way to go end game....within 15 min i have t2 and lab run on wipe day make richh....make my solo progression faster...since i play on 500 pop
if are you on a modded server that has recyclers at fishing village or there's a recycler nearby then you could add a comp farm and make passive scrap while you fish or just for comps to have. Just add some extra foundations at the bottom, put wall frames on them 2 high and netting and it will collect comps over time. (Just don't enclose it)
You can get Bait 3 by putting down a fish trap and using pumpkins or potatoes as bait. Any bait above 100 calories will net Bait 3 fish. from there it's catching higher tier fish --> Shark.

Update: I don't know if I have the worst luck in Rust, but after building at a depth where sharks spawned, using good bait, and landing 80% of my hooks, I only had about 100 scrap's worth of fish in 30 minutes. Even if every one of the hits that I missed were sharks (very unlikely), it would have only been about 400 scrap's worth.

On a dead server with every single crate/barrel up it's ~800 scrap on vanilla. I get close to a full stack sometimes, depending on RNG. You will NOT do that on a full pop server.
Great idea! However i would liked it more if you showed us a starter base first with campfire / water purifer and a fishing start and than expand that base into the water for shark fishing. The way this is shown is kinda unrealistic for a solo player without some idea what to do first and how much this costs. If this is possible with two bases connected with two TC's that would be next level. You can even add a subpen or boat house.
Tbh thats how i do my start since it came out, even bevore it got meta.. you can do it in Bandit in the Safezone for freshwater fish. Making ist only Like 1k-1,2k per h but in the safezone

i dont recommend turrets as it just annoys and motivates players to raid u to get rid of the turret

I build waterbases for almost a years now on Rustoria EU Main, every single one has been Uboat raided. Trust me they will just Uboatraid you...

I'm not sure if it's still a thing as I haven't played Rust in a while, but you should be able to put another Box inside the repair bench.
unfortunately you can only put small boxes under it, which wouldnt be accessible

You can just do this without the base also in under water labs is the best place for fishing

Tbh thats how i do my start since it came out, even bevore it got meta.. you can do it in Bandit in the Safezone for freshwater fish. Making ist only Like 1k-1,2k per h but in the safezone
I made a base which also houses 32 horses, I am now making 12K scrap every 4 hours. I'll do the fishing one next I think
