I think any band that put out a debut record in '88 and later we're definitely on the downhill side of that scene. They absolutely had a much shorter window for success than bands that came out earlier in the decade.
For me Slaughter was a highly popular band for teenage girls in my Junior High School. I had been playing guitar for a few years. I was into Slayer, Megadeth, and harder music at this time. They were insignificant to me. With a name like Slaughter I would hope they were more on the Slayer spectrum. Now that I’ve grown musically, I can appreciate them now. Thanks for sharing this with us 🤘🏼
His Voice on Ashes To Ashes with Vinnie Vincent is the best vocal track I have heard yet. It was my #1 streamed song on Spotify in 2023. It got me through loads of workouts. I played it at a family BBQ last Summer and my older brother(who isn’t much of a rock connoisseur) said “Is that Led Zeppelin?”. I was proud of Slaughter at this moment, those vocals killed on all of his albums. What a legend . Unsung hero ❤
I got Slaughter 1990 album Stick It To Ya on CD 💿 also I used to live in Las Vegas from 1995 to 2007 good times and Mark Slaughter goes to the same high school as I do. 😀👍🤘🎸
The Bulletboys also had a short shelf life and was a little bit late to the party as well. Highly underreated...but a simple youtube search for Headbangers ball for the late 80's to 93 (pre-Nirvana/Pearl Jam) would prove interesting to anyone who is curious about the underrated talent of the tail end for Metal/Glam Rock...some of which today still holds up.
I used to love Slaughter back in the day. The debut is stellar. I'm 53 now, but back in the day, I definitely had the Mark Slaughter schtick going on with the hair and everything. Good times...lol
I still love that album to this day. It's pretty much perfect start to finish. Imo the majority of bands in the genre who came out during that last Big Wave of Hair Metal were arguably among the best. Slaughter, Winger, Warrant, Firehouse, Hardline, Danger Danger, Tyketto...all of those guys were and are criminally underrated and underappreciated. Probably one of the best and most uplifting eras of Hard Rock/Metal.
@jcrockandmetalreviews I had actually started with Iron Maiden, AC/DC, and the Big 4 of Thrash. I was considered a bit weird by my circle of friends for also liking all of the Hair Metal bands too. Took a lot of flak for it in fact. Funny thing though - while my friends kind of stagnated after the whole Grunge thing and for the most part never moved past that, I was also the only one who kept discovering new music and went into weirder and heavier directions with Death, Black, Power, and Prog Metal as well. Glad that happened too, as now on any given day I might go from enjoying some Slaughter or Danger Danger to Helloween, Opeth, Darkthrone, or Wobbler! Variety is indeed the spice of life!
I'm currently reading Justin Quirk's, 'Nothing but a Good Time: The Rise and Spectacular Fall of Glam Metal.' In it, he references the cover art and their lineage to V V's Invasion. Why not fill my boots with a deeper dive, you vould ask? 'Ahh, well. Who wants to live forever? DIVE!'
@jcrockandmetalreviews Aye, it's right up our respective street. All part of my mixed media menu for life in general. And with that said, rocking on regardless.
@@jcrockandmetalreviews 1990 is not late to the party. Maybe if the band came out in 1992. Firehouse had really good run and never stopped for 35 years.
The album is not very good. I just re listened to it after watching this video and came back here to comment that there's a reason why they're not still around. The songs just aren't that good. Surely you have a good enough listening ear to recognize that. These songs just won't stand the test of time. As compared to a band like motley crue or guns n roses
Stellar band🤘 great songs , shows , history etc etc ,,,,,then MTV started to show the real world series and drugged out whiney runt bands from a shit hole called Seattle 😊
I love the Stick It To Ya album! A real gem of the genre that I only heard about 5 years ago. Thanks for the video brother of metal 🤘
No problem. I appreciate it.

Yeah there were a lot of other bands like that such as dangerous toys, bang tango and love hate.

That's cool. I also thought that they should have been heavier given the name of the band.
@ hey! Metal chicks need their bands too.
That drummers posters were in so many lockers and bedrooms of girls I knew. 🍻

Yeah, that's a good song.

Yeah, they were also pretty cool. I watched Headbanger's Ball every Saturday night from about 88 to 91 so I remember all of those bands.

I know what you mean... I had the hair too.

Yeah, I know. This was the time when I started listening to heavier music.

Cool. I've never read that book.

Desperately is the best song on the album
Yeah, that one is very catchy.
I agree with this. Interesting it was the B-side of Fly to the Angles because the track was so strong.
Late to the party? For sure. Same with Firehouse, they had some good stuff but showed up too late.
Yeah that's true. There were a lot of bands that fell into this category.

Enuff Z Nuff, Vain, great bands who came too late.
Had Mark not burned several years with VV, and Slaughter started several years earlier, they would have had more success.
Yeah, that is so true.

Yeah, I get that. This one has a lot of nostalgia for me though.
Hair metal is a derogatory term!
I usually say either hair metal or glam metal when referring to those bands.
Stellar band🤘 great songs , shows , history etc etc ,,,,,then MTV started to show the real world series and drugged out whiney runt bands from a shit hole called Seattle 😊
Yeah it all ended with the real world and from there the age of reality tv was born.
