    You are now my favourite travel channel on YT! I love how you say it like it is. So much more enjoyable to watch than any of the others 🙂 Love from Ireland ☘️

      Oh wow, those words are amazing! Thank you so much it makes us feel great! We try not to make videos like "Top things to do here.." bleh bleh, people are already doing that. We just like to show everyday life in the places we visit, and as you say ... tell it like it really is travelling the world full time. We hope more people find our channel and it can grow, to share those experiences! How did you find us?

      @@JayandSarah You appeared on the suggestions after I watched another travel video about Montenegro. I'm glad I clicked on it 🙂 I have started watching your videos from the oldest today and loved your comment on seeing another youtuber " he's fuckin lost" 🤣 Please don't change your style as it's just so refreshing to see compared to all the fake sweet pusses. ☘️🌹 Good luck now begorra.

      @@LeonardoLabastia-mq4qj haha yeah I remember that video and seeing the guy. You have to pay attention to sometimes find the gems and have the right comment at the right time. Not every video can have that sort of stuff, but once in a while there is some nuggets for sure. Thanks for watching and subscribing! Stay tuned, we got lots coming... more from Bulgaria, some videos from Istanbul ... (still to be produced) and tomorrow we fly to Bangkok for a LONG sting around Asia, should be some fun.

    Bulgaria is a part of the EU since 2007 and recently joined Schengen

      Yes this Was my mistake, thanks for pointing it out. It does surprise me a bit. It seems still quite behind most of the EU.

      I will point to an article that covers quite a bit of why Bulgaria is being delayed at entry into the Eurozone.

    Bulgaria have the biggest ammount of thermal springs in all of europe(and the biggest gold deposites estimated to be more than a trilion dollars),only iceland has more,but the highest gazer is in bulgaria,18meters,he is also the hottest 103 degrees celsius,also bulgaria is on third place with archeological sights after italy and greece,you had to check the archeological museum of sofia,also the oldest procesed gold was found in the bulgarian city of varna,the so called varna gold treasure,it is 8000 years old

    We liked Plovdiv and Varna better than Sofia. Where we stayed north of the downtown seemed pretty run down as well. Thanks for the video and enjoy your travels.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We also liked Plovdiv much better. There will be a Plovdiv video coming out as well in the near future. Sofia to us was underwhelming. We felt the same way about Podgorica, Montenegro. It was just.. "meh".

    Looks like a beautiful city! And fully agree with you about not waiting longer than you need to before you retire.

    Bulgaria generally is a good place to retire, but for a better experience i can recommend the city of Varna. Prices are a bit higher than other cities but there are less people exept in summer and prices for housing are cheaper also Bulgaria is a part of the EU

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not a good place if you are retired early without a state pension. The requirements for foreigners to get a visa to stay are limited.

  • @nomadjim

    Interesting street art. I'm sure it would be a lot more lively without all the road closures. Didn't realize that Bulgaria was in the Schengen Zone. Good to remember. Second that advice to retire early and see the world while you still have your strength, stamina and energy. Thanks for sharing!

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just recently joined Schengen. We've met lots of people in their early 70's doing this, and every single one of them said they wish they had retired earlier. These are all people clearly with the financial resources to do it, but for whatever reason kept working to 65 when it wasn't necessary.

    Can't say Sophia made me want to rush to visit. Guess the weather didn't help, but it just looked grey and grimey and unappealing. Apart from the cool graffiti !
    How rude of that Iraq restaurant, odd 🤔 The one you ended up in served the same old meat and salad combo that is so common here. Had enough of that here in Albania to sink a ship lol. How much was all that food in Euros btw you didn't say ?
    Should have gone to McDs 😂
    Great video though, enjoyed it. Looking forward to Turkey, been many times ❤

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sofia was okay. I wouldn't stay there long term. A short visit is fine. It is on the same level as Podgorica, Montenegro. There's nothing wrong with it, but nothing very special about it. We have a video coming up on Plovdiv, which was better, we really loved that city. Bulgaria overall was enjoyable. Bansko has a very good selection of food... probably because it is tourist focused.
      Some food was better, but yes, most of the balkans food is same, same. Turkey has already been 10x better for food than anything in the balkans. We are heading on our first flight in a long time next week.. to some really good food.
      I think all that food was around 65 euro, split between 4 and ate over 2 days, so 8 meals. In that regard, it was alright.
      Yeah, meat, salad, chips. F#(#*K me dead.

    • @eeeee6717
      @eeeee6717 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JayandSarah Actually it is not because Bansko is tourist focused - it is but the food is because it is part of Pirin Macedonia geographic area and in any Macedonia we have the best food and meats, and veggies, and you can jump to Greece for Fresh sea food.

      Thanks for pointing this out, this is good to know for sure... but most of those restaurants would not even be there if it weren't for tourism. The menus were all pretty good. Better chefs than other areas that is for sure.

    Stop staying there and calling it downtown - it is part of the wide centre but it is also part Central-North Sofia, that is not the downtown - that is the AVOID area... Downtown is around NDK and between St. Sunday and NDK and above NDK and East of NDK West of NDK and anything but NORTH of Serdika Metro station. W are part of the European Union, we are not part of the fiscal Euro zone even though we are fixed to the euro.Only use ATM's in Banks or attached to Banks - not the Yellow and Blue NO ATM has ATM written on it and being legit. The area you were in in that restaurant where you had a bad experience we refer to as little Arabia and you sound American.

    Jeez, man, you wasted your time in Sofia. You went to the wrong places and ate the wrong food. You need someone to guide you here; otherwise, you'll end up with this nonsense impression that shows nothing of the city and culture.

      @marinatzvetkova9382 the time is never wasted. We are not tourists. We just live ordinary lives in the places we visit.
