My wife Lauren and I arrived on the Pacific side of Costa Rica on Thanksgiving Day 2017. It was a huge adventure (and lot of fun!) reacquainting ourselves with this rural Costa Rican community.
We really grew fond of all the people, as well as the environment, and of course the FISHING!
Monster pacific black snook, roosterfish, needlefish and jacks inhabit this section of coastline.
But according to the locals, catching a Cubera Snapper in the surf along this sandy beach section of Costa Rica is a very rare event.

Wow what a monster catch from the surf. I love surf fishing with lures from the shore during my vacation as well. But haven’t caught anything anywhere near this. Absolutely catch of a lifetime. Congratulations!

I'm really not sure Zyn. This cubera was a rogue fish and is the only one I've ever caught from shore. I'm told they are typically caught from boats.

LOL, we cooked it like a chicken (roasted in the oven) with a lot of butter, minced garlic, salt and pepper

What do you do to keep your fish fresh while you continue fishing and then when taking them home?
If I'm on a boat, then I ice the fish down. But when fishing on shore, I just place the fish in a cool shady spot, or I just call it quits early and walk home with the fish, which is what I did with this cubera.

really good guy and lovely family we tried hard from shore battered by thew waves without much success but we all went out on a boat and noah showed us how its done catching a decent corbina we caught well off boats later in the holiday across the way....inc rooster! but nothing like what you've achieved, awesome results
How do you clean your reel after bathing with it?
The Van Staal reel I used in this video has a sealed drag, so saltwater and sand does not affect the reel at all.

Hey Al, unfortunately I'm not familiar with the Tamaraindo area. I was in the Golfo Dulce. The fishing is generally pretty good year around in the Dulce.

nice. i'm guessing zancudo....i spend time down in pavones. a lot more big rock formations all along the beach in pavones, so there should be some fish there. on my next weekend down there, i'm gonna try surf casting. when is your next trip down here?
