I see a lot of negative comments on this video. My observation is that it is mechanics like these who have kept the enfield and motorcycling alive in India. They work hard, in fairly basic conditions and know the bike inside out. They've done this for years on relatively low wages. Yes the techniques here are a little brutal, but they know how to get the job done on a budget and I have no doubt that engine would run like it should when they were finished. You pay your money and you take your choice.

i respect mechanics but seeing guys like these will only make me feel like pulling my hair. i mean, hitting the cylinder head studs with a steel hammer? seriously? using a tube under the exhaust port n using the crashguard as fulcrum to lever the cylinder head out will not only damage the crashguard but also might make the exhaust port leak!

    • @reginalda350

seriously this isnt the way to work on bullets or any engines for that matter!

The good thing is that in the end it always works again. More or less that is.
I always wonder why these people never get some proper tools. Ok, time is not of the essence in India, but I would just not like to work this way.
This is not an emergency roadside repair,
This is the way they all work, all the time.
The really bad thing is that it just does not bother them to work on the floor with a peace of wood and a big hammer.

Please go to lunmad Triumph T120 bottom end rebuild, and see how engines should be stripped and re-built. This may help this garage improve it's work practices and it;s profits. Either that or hit the mechanics with their favourite tool- the lump hammer!!! Dave

  • @twostroke350
    @twostroke350 5 ปีที่แล้ว

The main problem here was deformed washers under the cylinder head nuts binding against the studs. That's why he was putting the head nuts back on loosely and tapping them from side to side to try to free them off. It can make the head nearly impossible to remove. You can fit hardened washers to prevent this happening. One useful tip that can help is the "Indian rope trick" where you put a long piece of nylon rope down the sparkplug hole then turn the engine over. I have fitted studs with square ends that can be removed with the head in-situ to my bullet to get around this problem.

    1. That ain't the right way to dismantle an engine. Use pullers or spray loosener.
    2. Do Not assemble/disassemble engine in an open environment. Lots of dust and sand particles.
    3. Always pressure wash the bike before disassembling!

U Know in India they don't have much to work with.
AKA, They cant afford tools and don't have many useful tools to work with.
Also when heads are glued down it turns out people think of it like Butchery... Technically it is kinda like that.
I would have used Door stop's to take the head of in their Position if it was stuck.
Only thing i would agree about is the fact they go to far when they do what they do.
    for
1: What is the problem with the engine?
By looking at what their doing, their isn't much wrong with it.
At first i when i looked, i thought the head was fine, till you watched them taking off the piston.
When i looked at the piston first thing i saw was a crack through it.
I thought they were replacing the piston head because of that...
If they were then it would not be butchering.
But their seems nothing wrong with it.
    It looked good.
That part i see now is that the oil is white.
That means water has gotten in the engine and mixed with the oil.
Its not good, unless your using it for coolant when doing Machining on a lath or milling machine or something.
    Anyway, just don't pick.
Your not in India and you don't know what they got and what they need.
All you need to know is they can fix stuff their own way.
Even if its just a Disassembly.
    I will admit.
I am worst then these guys.
First engine i even took appart was a 98cc Villiers MK10...
I used a screwdriver and snapped the head.
I did not notice the head bolts which blended so well in my eyes i didnt notice.
Also i smashed 2 rings putting in the piston...
I was ready to reassemble and i put the piston in...
I could not push it down.
I got a hammer and next thing i knew the rings where smashed.
I was around 13 years old... Dumb if you ask me now.
I feel i could do WAY BETTER then that.
Currently i am 17 and restoring my dream car.
I have not made mistakes yet and hope to keep it that way!
