    I replaced my CV boot four months ago after watching your video, and travelled quite a distance since. Never done this before, and found it is easier than I imagined. Many thanks for the video help.

    Thank goodness your video is still up.. my searches yield so many info that doesn't address my issue, but yours got the bulls eye. Thank you and zip ties made it so much easy-er..

    Thank you. Wit your help I managed to change my faulty CV joint. For those who want to do this, please follow the instructions to the letter. Change the security ring if you have one, to save time. Also, put a bolt nut on before hitting with the hammer. I had to smooth the threads on my bolt to finish the work...

    Clear, concise and very comprehensive instructions. I've worked mainly on motorbikes and payed some one else to do CV joints. A massive thank you for making this look manageable. It's not a question of saving money, for me its doing it right. I've had a few disasters with garages leaving out O rings, or leaving distributors loose. Doing it yourself gives you a sense of

    Just want to add my thanks, this video was a great help. For those who want to know the strut fixings are 118Nm and the driveshaft nut 177Nm (i.e. a good heave on a long spanner) - source = Haynes manual. On my 2001 model the drive shaft nut is 27mm AF, I'm not sure if it changed over time - so check before buying a socket. Finally was underwhelmed by the GKN boot kit - it seems way too loose on the large end as if designed for a different part. A good heave on a cable tie seemed to make it acceptably tight though.

    Used this method at the weekend, thanks. :) Luckily I had my Dad to help so I lay underneath the car holding the driveshaft into the gearbox while he knocked the joint off. Ended up replacing the joint because it was £4 for a boot kit or £12 for the joint. Not worth saving £8 to have to do it again!

    Excellent video. Specially the fact that you're doing it without removing the whole unit from the transmission which would have led to loosing the oil makes it unique. I'm gonna do the same on my Mazda Protege (323) next weekend.

    Many thanks . I replaced a very noisy cv joint on our 1999 Micra a few days ago and this video made the job a breeze. There was more water than grease in the boot so no wonder it was rattling a bit!! The joint even tapped off and on just like yours. Had to lean on the breaker bar a bit though to get the hub nut off though ! Once again, thank you,

    Just finished putting a new CV boot on the passenger side of a 1997 Nissan Wingroad. This video helped a lot as I thought I was going to have to remove the drive shaft which is how it's done in other videos I watched and which could potentially have made the job a lot harder. One good blow with the hammer and the joint came right off. Instead of simply cleaning out the old grease however, I disassembled it and thoroughly cleaned all the parts but apparently this isn't possible with some CV joints.

    Very nice guide. I've never worked on a Micra and will be changing the cv joint for a friend. He says when the steering is locked to the right it makes a clicking noise. I hope it goes as smoothly as your clip.

    Lovely clear instructions. I'm just an amateur tinkerer, I'd not done this on a Micra before but it turned out to be one of the easiest boot changes I've ever done. (Renaults are a bugger!). Your helpful heads-up was still a real boon. Thanks.

    hi micra guys this is a great video as long as the driveshaft taps through the hub easily . on mine near side taped through no problem. but the off side was stuck completely in the hub. I had to take out the whole driveshaft from gearbox and also replace hub bearings. if you are having trouble knocking the shaft through it can turn in to a major job. I want to thank this guy for a goodvideo.

    Guys beware that by hammering the CV joint, the actual shaft can come out of the transmission from the other end. I've been told by other fellow micra owners, to somehow molegrip the shaft to the transmission so upon hammering it will act as if someone is holding the shaft from coming out from the transmission.

    Is the procedure to separate the CV joint the same for a 1998 N15 Nissan Almera (Pulsar)? Simply give it a good tap with the hammer? Or is a puller or another method (somehow compress the circlip) necessary on a 1998 Almera? Looks like it comes apart easily with a tap on the Micra, hope it's the same on an Almera. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • @emmams5
    @emmams5 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good vid & love the black Aldi gloves, the CV came off surprisingly easy, did you use a pullers before that then slide the CV back onto the shaft a bit & tap it off with the lump hammer for purpose of the video?
    Reason I ask is, I've got a boot to replace on a 2001 Micra & if the CV doesn't shock off as easily as it did for you, I don't want to damage it, the shaft or gearbox by bating lumps out of it.

    • @diycarmaintenanceandrepair3764

      emmams5 The CV joints on Micras usually tap off without too much trouble. I've done hundreds of them to date and never had issues.

      You saved me a poxy fortune by not having to buy a pullers, as the CV flew off with a well placed tap off a ball pein hammer.
      Replacing it was a piece of piss & the car flew through its NCT, you're a hero dude, well done.

  • @mb-3faze
    @mb-3faze ปีที่แล้ว

    The replacement boot is not the correct one for that CV joint... At least that's what it looks like from the ease with which you slipped the boot over the CV joint at 5:58. It's worth noting that the 1.4ltr micras have a CV diameter 1cm larger than the 1.1ltr. When you buy the replacement boot you have to make sure that you get the 68mm-70mm version for the 1.1ltr.
