Actually, I don’t. I may not be wealthy enough to bribe ADs to put me on a supposed waitlist for a lazily-designed watch that only its mother could love, but one day I may be. Because I don’t like the Cubitus Thierry Stern made it clear the watch is not for me, which suits me fine. If fortune smiles on me financially and I’m able to spend $40k on a stainless steel trinket, I will take my hard-earned cash to a alternative high horology brand that respects me as a customer and earns my respect in return. That will give me the kind of positive appreciative feeling Patek clearly no longer cares about. I’m sure that, despite its crude appearance and unattractive name, the Cubitus will have no trouble finding enough insecure rappers and D-list celebrities willing to buy the thing for the status bestowed by the name on the dial. If it makes you happy, fill your boots.
For a brand like Patek, to have an uninspired design like this is a sin. But to have their president commit what to me is a philosophical suicide was the killing blow. What used to be the North Star for horological excellence now represents a tasteless hype machine.

Most, 99% of people don't know anything about watches. I learned after 40 years as a collector that at the end of the day just buy what you like. Most people don't know what you have.
I remember an interview with Jean Claude Biver in which he recalls a Gerald Genta story about the origine/inspiration for the Nautilus "imagine you put the Royal Oak 50 thousand years on the beach, and after 10 thousand years you take the Nautilus out of the sea, and you will notice that everything has become round". I have the feeling Patek Philippe fell asleep going back in time and woke up to an edgier Royal Oak :))))
We can debate for hours about that. We see that in many corporations in the world. It does make sense. Especially when you know that it won't really matter because these things will sell like croissants to who it was always targeted at: their hardcore fan base already customers (never has it been thought about for new, younger customers, this is delusional and out of touch with reality, which I think is the case of Mr. Stern sadly)

This trend is followed by Rolex as well. When was the last time we got a new collection from them (Cellini excluded). Us as consumers need to start holding them to a higher standard and withhold our purchases if they refuse to grow.
@miabeatz80 I guess everybody is just used to with Rolex "signature" and did not expect it from Patek, which is considered the #1 watch company by many.

I have been waiting for this video from you, @TheoandHarris. Big Patek collector here. I believe that this watch just doesn't make any sense. No thanks to the rest of the collection as far as I care, as a watch enthusiast for over 55 years. When the images first came out I thought it was an April Fools kinda thing. The next day was the official release. I couldn’t believe it! This reminded me of the current gen BMW 7 series release with its gigantic ugly grille and unnecessary headlights design. What’s wrong with it: 42mm is too big for a thin square plain steel watch that looks like a Nautilus. It’s too top heavy a shape for the design. This is actually incredible considering Patek’s timeless design language. If it were more rectangular and smaller it could’ve worked, and actually been something nice. Obviously the price point is ridiculous and it’s aimed for hype buyers who look at people like Mark Wahlberg has on his wrist, who imo buys every single new sports watch just to say he got it first. The Nautlilus bracelet doesn’t for the case shape as has been discussed. Perhaps if they release 39mm size it will wear and look better in this format.
Picked up a AMZWATCH's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Since their amazing Regulateur 5235, with a total brand new calibre made just for that watch, they haven't done anything worth mentioning...and it has also a quantième annuel; if i remember well it was 36 OOO euros when released in white gold...
I really like this release, Why? Because I now love my Cartier Dumont way way more. I just enjoy the Dumont esthetic showing how a proper square should be done.
How do you compare the look of this as compared to watches along the line of the Santos De Cartier? It's an integrated square sports watch. I prefer the Santos, and I think the complications are ridiculous. But the base model (forget the price, that's insane) as compared to a Santos - it's not REALLY that different. And the Santos is one of the most loved watches in the world.
The patek version of the casio g square. It is not a royal oak version as many think, that is different shape. You can only make a watch in so many shapes, I don't think it is a horrible as people make it out to be. Cartier has many a square watch which work. Apple watch, JLC and vacheron is a rectangle that runs long with the bracelet. I think here lies the design issue that watch runs wide on the wrist perpendicular to the band. Something we are less conditioned to seeing. It is not a bad iteration of the nautilus in another shape. I think without wearing it I would reserve judgement.
Selling a 17k watch at 41k and calling it value is wild. I wanted to like this because it was patek, but I think if the price was actually approachable people would be more open to receive it.
Definitely up for the extra lifestyle content ! I think the watch is not that far from being good looking, had it been smaller and less "sharp" with a custom bracelet, I think it would have been a good looking watch
I assume that it’s going to be sold out because customers have to buy whatever their AD invites them to buy. The question of taste is really only relevant on the secondary market.
The Cubitus isn't any more odd than the A Lange & Sohne Odysseus, or the Parmiagiani Tonda. The only difference is that you cant help but compare the Cubitus to the Nautilus; whereas, the other two watches come from a blank slate. Years from now, when we have all forgotten about the Nautilus, the Cubitus will just be seen as nothing more than the mass market brand of High end horology ( A Lange makes in the hundreds, while Parmiagiani in thousands... Patek in the 10,000 + category). Patek is the Rolex of high end horology.
I noticed this watch at a glance on a poster. I passed by it thinking that Cartier was headed for a lawsuit for copying the Nautilus bracelet 🤷♂️ .. some days later I found out this watch is PP 🙄
There are so many aspects to the cubitus. 1. It is not very original, basically a nautilus dial in a square box. Plus a date stuck at the top. 2. But, and this is how I truly feel, this watch looks very interesting. And to me, it is quite beautiful. If I have to attach labels, then I would reserve the term ugly for the aquanaut. And the nautilus is odd and only through getting used to it may one find it beautiful. 3. The seemingly simple square design introduces an interesting tension between a dynamic impression and a static case. Very modern, yet with staying power. 4. Bottom line, I find this the most beautiful and attractive Patek, and if it wasn’t so outrageously priced, I would go for one. Remains to be seen if this line cannibalizes nautilus and aquanaut sales, or adds to them.
Thierry Stern said a couple of years ago that he didn't want Patek to be a one watch brand like AP. Also, I think he is a bit worried about the frustration among Patek fans about the unavailability of the steel Nautilus when it was in production. The Cubitus might be Pateks attempt to make a steel bracelet dressy sports watch available to Patek fans. A watch that isn't immediately ripped from the shelves by flippers and non-Patek customers who only want the Nautilus. For that to happen they must make a watch with less mainstream appeal than the Nautilus, at a price point not too easily available. Basically pleasing the Patek customers rather than the hype-world.
Agree, if they wanted to make a Royal Oak / Santos version of a Patek, they needed to change the bracelet to match the design aesthetic of the case rather than just throw on the nautilus bracelet
I personally don’t hate the platinum one with the complications. I think without the complications the dial feels so empty. Also it looks much better with a strap over a bracelet.
The size is the worst part, followed closely by the derivativeness. Maybe if they removed the Nautilus ears and named it something completely different rather than cube and tus to again… refer back to the fucking Nautilus. So unbelievably lazy. People say that this is a similar reaction to when the Aquanaut was released, but it was sooo different with a rubber strap and grenade dial. Yes you could see that were related but that’s okay. They even gave it a good name. Not Aquanus or something stupid like that. I’m sure seeing a cube in real life would maybe warm you to it a bit more but the fact still remains… derivative.

I agree with the comments about the price point, but I quite like the design, especially the green dial, stainless version. I don’t think the renders do it justice. The videos I’ve seen of the watch being worn throw a different light on how it wears and its proportions.
Absolutely agree on what you are saying at 10:15 and I hadn't even thought about it in this way. But what PP (or Mr. Stern) really is showing with this release is how little they think of their customers and watch enthusiasts in general - "we'll just make it square and up the price, they will buy it anyway!"
It looks so weird. The band doesn't look like it belongs with the case. The center links look puffy and round while everything else is brutal angles and flat surfaces.
I don't know if bad is the right work. I think Lazy is more fitting. Took 25 years to launch a new line and they basically made it on Microsoft Word? Pretty pathetic. Like others said, just get a Santos and live happily ever after.
Introduction of the Patek Nautilus sports watch. First order devolution Aquanaut. Second order devolution Cubitus. Third order devolution = sports watch extinction.
If I've got the spare 'spare' money then it's a yes, just for speculations. But my watch budget has been swapped for silver and gold in the past 3 years.
I really think the only thing they got right is the name. It has to be a clear reference to Cubitus Varus, which is literally a DEFORMITY ON THE FORARM, which is exactly what the watch will do
I bought a watch from AMZWATCH lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
I think it’s going to grow on people. If you like square watches to begin with, some people do and some people don’t, then honestly it’s just a square Nautilus. The Nautilus has always been an awkward circle in a square and wasn’t well received when it was introduced either.
It seems Thierry Stern and sons are making watches much bigger with more garish dials, tarmac texture, colours etc. I think they’re trying get away from being dominated by the Nautilus plus a series ‘old-man style’ watches but those are the ones that I like! I’m waiting to see the new 96 but starting think it might not happen. There’s always vintage but they’re not cheap and usually have been over polished and probably very expensive to maintain.
I don't find the watch ugly in fact I quite enjoy the design with a squared 70s esk case however on multiple occasions now I've mistaken it for a Maen because the design fits more of an inspired by Patek rather than being a Patek
Honestly I think this will be a collectors item and will be a good investment as it’s getting so much hate that this version will be changed soon so short production run
The problem is, I’d like to have a debate with you about this, but I agree with everything you said. The only one I can tolerate is the stainless steel bracelet. But I would also like to emphasize a point I think you missed, it’s HUGE. Unfortunately for the small wrist gang this ain’t it. I too am disappointed because of how long we’ve waited for something new and it feels like a let down. How long til the next one?
I was able to try this on last week at the Patek store on Rodeo Drive. I actually thought it looked great on my wrist. I tried the green dial. It wears large. I have about a 19 cm wrist. It was not for sale. Looking at the pictures I took on my wrist...maybe the date window/numbers could be larger?...I ended up purchasing the new H. Moser green pioneer 40mm!
I don’t think the design is terrible, it’s just looks like an uglier nautilus. I think the people that buy it are doing it to eventually get a nautilus from an AD.
I love a square/rectangular watch and I can’t get onboard with this. So many watch makers have been able to get it right: Cartier, Tag Heuer, JLC and even Bell & Ross have more attractive offerings.
i feel like if this was a cartier design it would have done really well (i honestly thought it was from them when i first saw it) i actually dont hate it and i think i would personally wear it. that being said i would pick a normal nautilus over it any day even if the price was the same lol
I sorta see the idea as a steel sports path into the brand. I mean the current budget friendly (relative) options are Calatravas and dress watches haven't been as hype in recent years. If you wanted to get your feet wet the sports options really were nautilus or aquanaut which are unobtainable, a 5905 in steel in the 50k pricepoint or say screw it and just eat the secondary market upcharge or buy stuff you dislike. As someone looking to start with patek they always get really pushy trying to start people with Calatravas. As someone with simple dress watch already filled it's totally uninteresting but they seem to be resistant to starting with complications.
I love the green one. I can’t understand so much hate. Yes it’s very expensive, yes it has a round movement, but maybe that’s because it’s entry level. I really dislike how people are attacking so much a beautiful square watch
All luxury goods need the 'hype machine' aspect to survive, but the ones that survive provide consumers plausible deniability under the real aspects of high horology and innovation. This watch openly announces 'the emperor has no clothes, what are you gonna do about it?' and only despots around the world(the real target demographic maybe?) enjoy that kind of thing.
I heard what happened was a kid fucked up the CAD files for the Nautilus at take your kid to work day and they didn't save the originals so they went with this.
I like the design in fact the one with the complications. This design to me felt ugly when the apple watch first came out but over the years it grows on you.
I dig the platinum unbalanced dial. I don't see $40K steel watch with a date complication. LOL. You can buy just about any solid gold Rolex for the 40K range.
The impressive stats of 45 hour power reserve and 30 meter water resistance justifies the steep but approachable price of this quadrangular sports watch.
I genuinely like the time only version of this watch. I’ve seen it in person. I truly think most people are just hopping on a hate train. Is it better than the nautilus ? Absolutely not. Is it overpriced? Absolutely. However, I dont understand what about the design is garnering so much hate. Objectively it is not a bad design.

@@wristopia4101 I’m saying the watch should’ve been 17k
It’s selling for like 150K. bunch of window lickers and crayon eaters, lol.
I passed by it thinking that Cartier was headed for a lawsuit for copying the Nautilus bracelet 🤷♂️
.. some days later I found out this watch is PP 🙄
This is spot one! Also, thank you for doing this in English!
I honestly love it! I have the green dial Cartier Santos and the cubist gives me the same sold vibes!
I love this Patek Casio hommage.
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!MAMACOO watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
Each their own. I absolutely love the new design.

I agree with the comments about the price point, but I quite like the design, especially the green dial, stainless version. I don’t think the renders do it justice. The videos I’ve seen of the watch being worn throw a different light on how it wears and its proportions.
I was eagerly waiting this specific video and it was more tame than I’d expected tbh.
I absolutely adore PP. But every aspect of this release is a MASSIVE failure.
When people are saying MAMACOO is a better option for buying a watch,I very much agree!
I don't know if bad is the right work. I think Lazy is more fitting. Took 25 years to launch a new line and they basically made it on Microsoft Word? Pretty pathetic. Like others said, just get a Santos and live happily ever after.
Can you do a comparrion between Cartier Santos and Patek's Q? Why do you think Santos is a better design?
Introduction of the Patek Nautilus sports watch. First order devolution Aquanaut. Second order devolution Cubitus. Third order devolution = sports watch extinction.
If I've got the spare 'spare' money then it's a yes, just for speculations.
But my watch budget has been swapped for silver and gold in the past 3 years.
I really think the only thing they got right is the name. It has to be a clear reference to Cubitus Varus, which is literally a DEFORMITY ON THE FORARM, which is exactly what the watch will do
I need two of them - one for each wrist. Then I can bang them together like cymbals in an ode to Patek’s glorious democratization and design.
Sadly, I have to agree with you, Christian! ... However, this release makes me appreciate even more brands like Jaeger-LeCoultre, Breguet, Cartier...
I bought a watch from AMZWATCH lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
When people are saying AMZWATCH is a better option for buying a watch,I very much agree!
Beautiful new series!
I think it’s going to grow on people. If you like square watches to begin with, some people do and some people don’t, then honestly it’s just a square Nautilus. The Nautilus has always been an awkward circle in a square and wasn’t well received when it was introduced either.
Saw it ‘in the flesh’ in Geneva, and given you can’t buy a sports Patek (without a stupid speculator premium) I really really wanted to love it…😩
It seems Thierry Stern and sons are making watches much bigger with more garish dials, tarmac texture, colours etc.
Where's the link to your new jacket...?
I don't find the watch ugly in fact I quite enjoy the design with a squared 70s esk case however on multiple occasions now I've mistaken it for a Maen because the design fits more of an inspired by Patek rather than being a Patek
Honestly I think this will be a collectors item and will be a good investment as it’s getting so much hate that this version will be changed soon so short production run
I’m more interested in the jacket brother, give us the link 👌
The problem is, I’d like to have a debate with you about this, but I agree with everything you said. The only one I can tolerate is the stainless steel bracelet. But I would also like to emphasize a point I think you missed, it’s HUGE. Unfortunately for the small wrist gang this ain’t it. I too am disappointed because of how long we’ve waited for something new and it feels like a let down. How long til the next one?
Totally don’t have the money for something like that but I think is a good looking watch
Totally 100% agree with you.
Turns out they built a mega factory to they need high volume watches now
I don’t think the design is terrible, it’s just looks like an uglier nautilus. I think the people that buy it are doing it to eventually get a nautilus from an AD.
Well - it's a relief that they didn't introduce something that I want to buy. I take my watch addition habbit wins where I can get them.
Smart move. ‘Anti-hype’ is just as good as ‘hype’. People always always want to be unique… like everybody else.
I don’t mind the move to a squarer look but it shares too many similarities to the Nautilus to justify its own model name
I heard what happened was a kid fucked up the CAD files for the Nautilus at take your kid to work day and they didn't save the originals so they went with this.
With the bracelet maybe not so nice, but with a strap I kinda like it. But it really depends on the size, i think it could be too big.
I like the idea but a smaller size with a different bracelet would have worked better
Thank you for highlighting the fact that last year they offered an actual green dialed Nautilus for much less. Baffling.
Where is the link to that coat?? It’s 🔥
God!!! MAMACOO Who would have thought those gorgeous watches go for that low!!!
The Maen Manhattan looks similar but with better ascetics
I’ll stick with VC and FP Journe. True innovators.
