Far Cry 3 is not a bad game. But it is to blame for the direction open world games took for the next several years. Radio towers, insane villains, crafting, grinding... all of it stems from this source. Of course it has sins. I've been sinning this game for years without even playing it.

That's because Citra is one of the important characters in the game, so they made sure to have really good boob rendering technology for her.
Fun fact: The actor who plays Vaas did both the English and French voices because he's fluent in both.
Michael Mando is an insanely talented actor. It's a shame he's not in more stuff.

I miss Vaas he died to soon. But its so funny that he killed one of their friends early in the game before they even had a voice or a personality to remember them.
I think there was a deleted section of the game where Jason accidentally kills his friend
But they cut it out and instead had him 'sliced open' by vaas off screen
It only takes a 10-second knife fight to kill him. Most lackluster boss fights in this POS game I've ever played.

Basically, the game recieved quite a lot of criticism for playign the "White guy comes in, is better at native stuff than the natives, and saves them from evil" trope painfully straight, which is kind of a problematic trop because it ties to the whole colonialism issue.
The heead writer (or senior dev, i don't remember) tried defendign himself by sayign that the game WASN'T a "White savior" story, but a parody of a white savior story.
Which is the old "I was just joking" justification.

So it wouldn't make sense for the Main character to be a native to the island.

For me, the biggest “sin” here is that we played as Jason and not Grant. Grant has military experience which would’ve made the story that much more believable...even the dream sequences where you kill Vaas, Hoyt, and Buck could’ve been a PTSD blackout.
Yes, but also no? Believe me, I think people give the game too much credit for Jason’s evolution into a mass murderer as “believable,” because it most certainly is not, the second the player gets the controller in his hands it’s over 😂 BUT it is a major part of the game’s story, and I don’t think it would be better without it
I like the fact you watch him go absolutely insane, he snaps after he kills his first pirates, and it further drives after riley dies, "one brother wasnt enough?!?!"
2 years late. but I believe that's why you play jason and not grant. because you EXPECT to play Grant. not Jason. Jason's a subversion on the typical protagonists in these types of games.

In the beginning, Jason is traumatized from his brother killing somebody in front of him. After the escape, he basically becomes John Rambo, mowing enemies down without a care. How much BS are we supposed to eat before we get a proper protagonist?

You can tell that the way Vaas turned out was completely by accident. The performance by Michael Mando was way better then what Ubisoft was expecting and was probably the reason why he was killed off half way through instead of being the final boss.
vaas didn't even exist until Mando's audition, he was initially turned away because he didn't fit any characters and then was brought back after they wrote a character specifically for him.
I stoped playing Ubisoft games after Far Cry 3, since all their later games are basically just re-skins of FC3

At the very beginning I’m very certain he didn’t kill anyone in your group (Not yet, we know he shoots the brother later). He probably just said that to scare your character
It doesn't seem like he realises that Buck literally said that he is playing a game with Jason of spectator and player, so Buck knew where Jason was supposed to go, but he wanted to watch Jason do it, but apparently Dartigan was too ignorant to read the lines the characters talk.

@@tommerker8063 but buck knew where the knife was all along and compass pieces thats how he tiped off the pirates about the location he just wanted to see jason fail/die but accidentally made jason stronger then when jason actually showed up with the knife buck went to kill him but without buck sending jason on suicide missions he would never have been able to defeat buck.

I was put off this video. Too many “white saviour” jokes. The first hundred were funny, but it became a bit thin by the 2:00 mark.

But the game IS about Citra and Denis trying to manipulate Jason into being their warrior. Citra fills Jasons head with storys of ancient warriors making him believe that he can be that warrior and can overcome anything. That is why you leave the Iland in the good ending, becuase they don't play the saviour story strait, if they did, then the ending would make no sense.
So... Is Jason white? I wasn't sure after watching this as it's all vague.

Don't get me wrong, his sarcasm can be funny, and the content itself is pretty enjoyable, but for the sake of all that is holy, saying that you'd delete one of the best open world games ever, just because the human populace is stupid is just... How should I put this... It's not even satirical, it's just idiotic.

If Vaas' boss had died first. then Vaas could have been off his leash and off the chain. lol
Far cry 3 was and is a successful game from Ubisoft. I don't know why u hate it so much. But Its FPS effects were something which deserves some good appreciation. Not to mention the SFX, Its all so realistic. And yeah, a nail biting storyline..
There would’ve been less sins if he would have done this video we the game actually came out rather than when games that were worse came out it just pisses me off a little to judge a game based off of games to come in the future.

All this did was make me miss 2012.
Why would you need to be convinced it isn't a ruse to trick a naive white boy into risking his life so they don't have to risk his? That's exactly what it is.
2012 was Ubisoft's year of gaming innovation (for them), reinventing both AC & FC and also mocking tropes in the industry. Jason was them mocking the white saviour trope by having him led around by the nose by a cunning native princess & Connor was them mocking the human killing machine relentlessly slaughtering anyone who looked at him funny thinking he's a good guy.
Unfortunately, the first was too subtle for some and the last just made people dislike Connor because even when you know what the writer is doing, Connor is still a douche.

I find it funny that some of the sins in this video are due to him not really focusing or looking beyond what the game just shows him. Like the Buck situation. Yeah he COULD have gotten all that stuff by himself, but wheres the fun in that. Not only does he have someone else doing that shit for him, but he gets a good show from it to. Now after a first and maybe second playthrough, I can see why it's hard to notice but come on. Does have good points in here though

Yeah I gotta agree with Louie. Obviously the first time around you won't get it, but on a second play through its not that hard to distinguish his voice. + Exactly, Vaas deeeefinitely wouldn't let some random pirate boss him around like that.

Vaas definitely steals the show, but I think Sam is a decent 2nd place. Maybe I just like goofy German accents, but in a franchise that constantly tells some nobody to stage a one-man revolution, it's refreshing to see a character actually help and join in the fight.
I liked Sam. It was a shame he got killed.

Sam was fun but he hardly added anything to the story. I never liked the second half of the game. It feels like it's over before you had time to explore the island

@@arthenosthefirst8176 I think the point of the game isn't the fact that he is white just that jason is thrust into a brand new environment and he has to do whatever he has to do to survive. He starts out with good intention, just wanting to save his friends and get out, but he goes insane and bloodthirsty. I like the idea that the rakyat were just taking advantage of his naivety and used him as a pawn so that he would be the one risking his life and not them. Jason could have been black, hispanic, really anything, as long as the island was a far cry from wherever he normally lives. Its just a white so cal guy in his 20s is the last person you would think to be battling for his life against pirates and slave traders on a tropical island.

Well, it's not secret knowledge that ubisoft did not plan Vaas' character at all. The actor was so good that they made a character from scratch. Ubisoft writers think they can write a massive epic, but end up with stories slightly better than fanfiction.

The reason why you pick the new guy when trying to pull an inside job is that they haven't been around long enough to establish any sort of bond with the workplace or other workers.
The new guy is essentially a blank slate with nothing going for them and nothing against them.
Someone with more years under their belt is more likely rat you out because all that time provides ample opportunity to cultivate a deeper trust and loyalty with the workplace.
Frankly, that trust could be a viable tool to use, but the risk of getting caught is initially higher than recruiting a newbie.

I thought they were using Jason in a way, I mean I like to think of the plot that way, appealing to his sense of wanting to "escape" his life and become a hero for the natives, playing up how the Tattoo is giving him strength, when in fact it's just making him more reckless and delusional due to the drugs.

Jason was manipulated by the tribes to do their risky jobs. He wasn't a warrior or anything. They played with his emotions to use him.
Also he gets the uniform to hide his face(it must have a mask). So makes sense that he is walking around Hoyt looking for an opportunity.
Why he didn't kill Hoyt when he gives him the file? Because he is at their hq and there are too many soldiers.

Michael Mando is a good actor. I liked him as Vaas, I liked him as well as Ignacio "Nacho" Varga in Better Call Saul / Breaking Bad (not sure if he actually appear in BB, he might have been only mentioned by Saul)

Sin 1: too many issues with this to list, so I'll just leave it at, your jokes fucking suck.
Sin 2: the Alice quotes are there to describe Jason's descent into madness.
Sin 3: I get it, you're woke, but everything you said, assuming you were serious about the whole "devs feeling guilty about the casting" thing, was stupid, the ethnicities of the natives were based on the locations they were native to, in this game you're playing as American tourists being trapped on an island, you may have noticed, none of the natives of the islands are white.
Sin 3 reduction: Vaas is an incompetent idiot, the only one of the good guys he killed was Grant, and it was not because he outsmarted Grant, it was because Grant decided to formulate his plan out in the open right outside the pirate camp he just escaped, afterwards he fails to kill a bunch of collage kids who never killed a human being before and a guy who has about two weeks of real combat experience. The Jackal was a far better villain.
Sin 3 again: that friend he killed was visible in one of the flashback scenes and the intro, he never gets to say anything and he is never mentioned in the game by name, but he was there.
Sin 4: he wasn't meant to be mysterious, the scene was only there to tell you that guy is Vaas's boss.
Sin 6: Vaas was only able to kill Jason's brother, and no other important character, and as I said before, killing Grant is not a display of competence.
Sin 7: this joke sucks.
Sin 9: that is exactly the plot of this game, Citra and Dennis spend the whole game manipulating Jason into believing he is becoming a legendary warrior while in truth they're turning him into a lunatic, if you didn't get that you're an absolute moron.
Sin 10: are all your jokes "heh, white people"? Because I get making jokes about the default skin color, but if you make a 25 minute repeating the same joke, it's gonna get stale before it ends.
Sin 14: this game was made by Ubisoft, the company that made assassin's Creed, which was made before far cry 3, this is another sin that shows how you don't know shit about videogames, tower climbing was started by assassin's Creed, and you did it there for the same reason you do it in far cry 3.
Sin 17: he had gathered them before, it's not that he can't get them himself, in this case time is running out, and the doctor is old, Jason can get the mushrooms much faster.
Sin 18: you seriously don't understand that sometimes things in stories are not supposed to be taken at face value, in case you didn't notice, Jason is tripping balls, in the vision he's hearing things he wants to hear, not some mythical prophecy that he's the actual, for real, no scam, promise, chosen one.
Sin 25: his chair was destroyed, he didn't escape.
Sin 34: the floor was concrete, everything else was wood, the bomb might not be powerful enough to breaks concrete.
Sin 35: he is keeping his house locked and booby trapped, nobody is gonna get to the basement without killing him first, his flag is safe, and as for why he's risking it, it's because to him it's a symbol of civilization, he considers everyone on the island to be insane and that insanity to be infectious, and he's right.
Sin 37: Hoyt is trying to sell Jason's friends, the deals have already been made, he won't mess with the merchandise.
Sin 42: if he didn't use that line, it wouldn't have been a reference, the line is the reference, not the name.
Sin 43: Buck has no idea about any of the rakyat stuff Jason is dealing with, Buck is only sending Jason on the quest to retrieve the dagger in hopes Jason will die, the knife being his excuse is purely coincidence.
Sin 48: Buck already has all the information that he's sending Jason to find, he is just playing games with him, it doesn't need to be spelled out, unless you're an idiot, which I can only assume you are or are only pretending to be for the sake of adding sins, neither option makes you look good.
Sin 49: the game never presented the possibility that Buck is a figment of Jason's imagination, you're making shit up.
Sin 51: THAT'S THE POINT! It's like you want people to think you're stupid. Buck is messing with Jason, expecting him to die along the way.
Sin 54: I refer you to the sin above.
Sin 56: the answer is magic, the compass is magical.
Sin 58: This scene shows that a dude is traumatized after being repeatedly raped, and Jason is in no way saying that he should get over it or toughen up, this game is not in any way saying the thing you're sinning it for.
Sin 59: Jason has snapped in this scene, he has guns, but he is unable to think clearly and wants to kill Buck with a knife.
Sin 64: this scene is mediocre, also, it's not the real definition of insanity and for some reason you're not sinning it for that, instead you sin it for something that's a fault in later games in the series.
Sin 66: that was not easy, Jason almost drowned, and had to struggle with all his strength to get free.
Sin 69: that lighter was two separate lairs of metal, it's not impossible.
Sin 73: it's like you know the theme of the story, but you refuse to believe it, Yes, the story is about Citra tricking a naive guy into becoming her warrior, Jason is not actually the chosen one.
Sin 75: Jason is hallucinating, because of how insane he's gotten at this point, in truth he's having some regular shootouts with the pirates as he is making his way towards Vaas.
Sin 76: yes, Jason is insane, and he is hallucinating, after the flames came out of his chest and he was transported to a blue void where he fought Vaas, I thought you would've caught on, but I guess that's too much to ask of you.
Sin 77: Jason killed all the pirates, before killing Vaas, and it was easy to get him back after that.
Sin 78: believe it or not, this game is not about racism, it's about life changing trauma, manipulation and delusion.
Sin 85: a bunch of Hoyt's mercenaries are white.
Sin 88: you're very much wrong about that, Vaas is just as garbage as all the later far cry villains, you just don't realize it, because some norms told you Vaas is this unimaginably insane villain he's so cool and all that bullshit, even Pagan Minn was better, at least he had a point to make.
Sin 93: He doesn't give a shit, he felt like blowing up a boat with people on it.
Sin 106: Jason started hallucinating from the adrenaline caused by having his finger cut off, every you see after that is not how it really played out, you know this because when he snapped out of it, everyone in the building is dead.
Sin 108: Citra kidnapping Jason's friends had nothing to do with him killing Hoyt, it was because Jason told Dennis that he just found out Riley is still alive and Citra considered that a possibility that Jason might still leave her after saving Riley, therefore she kidnapped all Jason's friends, and tried to convince him to kill them all by saying that if he lets them live he'll be undoing all the progress he has made throughout the game towards becoming a great warrior, which Jason considers an important goal to him, to him this choice is difficult, admittedly it's not difficult to the player because the developers didn't realize that we can still tell that killing your friends to join a cult is not a good thing to do.
Sin 109: he didn't escape he was let free, in case you didn't notice the thing that was happening on screen, which I wouldn't put past you at this point, Jason was drugged, and everything that happens afterwards is a hallucination.
I can't believe I had to defend this game from unfounded criticism, when there was so much legit criticism that you could've made but didn't.

I kinda disagree with you about vaas. He isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but Vaas is supposed to represent what jason will become if he stays on the island. Vaas was manipulated by his family, got addicted to drugs, and the island turned him into a serial killer psycopath. And also most people, including myself, like Vaas because of michael mando's performance. It is a subjective point though. Everything else though yeah, this video sucks a lot.

One of my biggest problems with the beginning of the Poker Night mission is that Sam doesn't even whisper the plan to Jason, and they are only like 10 feet from Hoyt. Hoyt absolutely heard that, there's no way he didn't.
It is later revealed that Hoyt knew who Jason was since the point where Sam introduced Jason to Hoyt

Basically, the game recieved quite a lot of criticism for playign the "White guy comes in, is better at native stuff than the natives, and saves them from evil" trope painfully straight, which is kind of a problematic trop because it ties to the whole colonialism issue.
The heead writer (or senior dev, i don't remember) tried defendign himself by sayign that the game WASN'T a "White savior" story, but a parody of a white savior story.

The reason buck sent jason to get the compass pieces was to get him killed for his own amusement he knew where the knife was all along and then when jason got the knife buck was impressed but still wanted to kill him so went down into the basement to kill him but jason killed him instead.

If anything, Far Cry 4 kinda gave us this exact Story. Except not only was AJ not a White Savior, it was even worse because no rational American would go from trying to spread his Mother's Ashes, into a Freedom Fighter.
The Secret Ending isn't great just because of how surprising it is, but because of how *_accurate_* it is.

While I do condone the sinning of the Far Cry series, I kinda like crafting things AND the skill tree. I like the theme of living off the land, becoming more and more hardened as time goes on.

That's why I loved FC3, FC4 and FC Primal. You had incentives to become stronger and upgrade your personal abilities and equipment so that you could effectively deal with all types of enemies no matter what. It was deep and layered, yet still streamlined and accessible.
I enjoyed the skill tree a lot, especially the learning new takedowns as you go. I was very happy with FC4's skill tree and modertaely happy with FC5 (no takedown progression), and was super disappointed with FC6 taking the skill tree out of the game. The hunting and crafting mechanic I was never too fond of in FC3, but ended up enjoying it a lot in FC4.
Ngl after 5 I missed the crafting, made me do less in the game besides have to do all side quest to unlock everything by level, towers bored me, at least with 4 I used the small helicopter to get to the top
I do want to point out that assuming you choose this particular ending..

Citra, it could be argued, is using Jason to simply have him create what she believes to be the ultimate warrior leader for her people out of his child, rather than actually wanting him to be the savior of her people. At least that's my take on the "Citra" ending..
