PLA's Modernisation May Be Impressive But Operationalising It Is An Issue: Eastern Army Commander

  • India's Eastern Army Commander, Lt Gen Manoj Pande has one of the longest borders with China to look after. During his tenure, he has worked closely with the Indian Air Force and the State governments in the region to improve infrastructure and operational efficiency of the troops deployed on the difficult border. In this exclusive interview to Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale, Gen Pande has also pointed out that the PLA may be undertaking outwardly impressive defence modernisation measures but in the end, operationalisation of the reforms and induction of new technology will pose a major challenge and therefore it remains to be seen how effective the implementation would be on ground.

He has been very vocal journalist on what to show/write which is for the safe keeping of the nation. Even when we had conflict with Chinese army last year, some left Indian journalist published Indian Army map in their article, Mr. Nitin openly condemned them for doing so.
This guy has a very high level integrity when it comes to journalistic ethics.

@@indiaexpress4547 Nope, you probably don't know about this journalist. First read about him before making such assertion. Even Mr. (Late) Manohar Parrikar after taking Defence Minister position consulted with Mr. Nitin on critical areas of Indian interest. He is frequently called during during ex Defence Minister tenure to help him with many national issues. This man is a giant. Even in one Lt. Gen. ?? combatting aggression with non aggression , ignoring chinese transgressions particularly in arunachal pradesh where chinese patrols come deep into indian territory every year

Armed forces top brass should not make this mistake of underestimating the enemy. It just takes one easy statement to push the blame on to political will and escape scrutiny and backlash for failures from 1947 - 2021. Armed forces needs to have its concrete strategy and proposals in place to get back the occupied territories. The Bureaucracy and Armed forces remain in continuation while PMs and Parties change every 5 years. A simple notion and fetish for foreign armaments is enough for India to not fight a war and never be ready to fight a war with our Neighbours as this means escalating costs and paying 5-10 times the price for a product. China and Pak have done the opposite. China manufactures everything on their own and Pak replaced US with China as truck with US is expensive and logistically inferior. India has done the opposite of China and Pak.

PLA came in 5km and destroyed a bridge. And our army is told to be quiet and make friends.
Will we do this if PAK did this to our bridge? I don't get it?
Even if the long term strategy is to make friends... without respect there can be no friendship. Respect comes from the "Will" to display Retaliation at the least...

Sounds like Indian armies are more talent on imported weapons.
At least unlike Indian's defense industry, Chinese soldiers armed by self sufficient weapons and equipments.

I don't think it would be a challenge for PLA to get adjusted to reforms China is a totalitarian regime and soldiers come with a mindset of Not-To-Analyse but to simply obey and execute. India on the other hand is a democracy and culturally our mindset is different and we would definitely like to know more before we accept any changes. Having said this , India has a advantage because the soldiers are more informed , they believe that they are part of the decision making process , and they understand their strengths and more importantly their weaknesses and are capable of working autonomously if the need arises unlike Chinese. I strongly believe that politicians are huge let down for us. We are simply not able to get the right set of people in parliament.

Very graceful use of words by the Commander. The way he delivers his words instilled confidence in our defence forces in minds for commoners like me... Wonderful work by Strat News Global team too...
