- GRAMMY Award-Winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, H.E.R., talks with us about why she makes music, how the Stratocaster inspires her sound and the significance behind being the first Black woman to release a signature guitar with Fender.
Breaking through barriers, blending genres, and mastering her chosen instruments, the force that is H.E.R. brings honesty, soul, and a fresh quality to everything that extends from her voice. Her love for the guitar runs deep from learning the blues Pentatonic scale on the very first Strat she received from her Dad at the age of seven all the way to the one that currently bears her name.

7 months later … I want to say she inspired me to learn the Guitar and to truly dive into Jimi Hendrix and learn. Because of this video I bought some cheap Squires and eventually bought the $999 Jimi Fender Strat. Shout out to amazing women who inspire!!!!!

The first time I saw HER on stage at an award show.......I was blown away. I love her music and her whole vibe. I loved that she came out comfortable on stage...she wasnt sellin her music with her body......SHE is the real deal. Happy to see such outstanding talent in someone so young. Looking forward to hearing anything she might create through her gift 🌹🙏🌹

The minute I heard her play I knew she had old school roots. Saw her on Jimmy Fallon and she absolutely blew me away! Then she did it again as a musical guest on SNL! She is fantastic, and I'm hoping and praying she does at least one album with a cover of about the 10 most fantastic guitar solos ever heard. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Of course I completely support and applaud her own material. She is a true artist, a bona fide musician.
I'm an old man (73) and have always wanted to play the guitar. This particular song and your guitar work has inspired me to buy the guitar and amp and get busy learning. I've made a living for 50 years as a stained glass artist and know well the hurdles in front of me but I'm ready to take the leap and this is just a note to tell you thanks for the push. I've pushed so many and you've pushed me.

Have you learned scales yet?? I’d say an important tip is to learn scales. Anything else lmk

Start with the basic 8 blues chords and then, go from there.
@@royaltaee5111 I haven’t! I think I will do that...I know how scales work on the piano but still trying to understand how that’s arranged on the fretboard. But I Just know a few chords/simple progressions. Open chords, 7th chord fingerings, But Barre chords are giving me hell lol

We have a squire strat I sent this video to my 12 year old daughter she was so natural when I showed her chords in lockdown she still remembered them I can hear her noodling on little mini Marshall amp I’m so happy kids need this kind of thing to pry them away from the laptop. I didn’t know who her was until this but I’m thankful fender finally signing people our young ones can relate to . They smashing it fender from past few years like that . I saw H.E.R. Play at the Super Bowl Half-Time show on TV. She’s a very good guitarist. As someone who has his own electric guitar, I really appreciated her solo at the show!!! She’s underrated in my opinion.

I agree often when I can't think of words to tell my girl how I feel I'll send her a song that kinda speaks for me.
I’ve always struggled with guitar, I’ve owned one since I was like 12, but I’m way more of a drummer than a guitar player. I own a Fender Squire Mustang and an acoustic guitar, and watching this video makes me want to play more than ever in my life. HER is the same age as me, and it blows me away her level of passion and dedication to her instrument. I admire her a lot and this video is so sick and well done. I love it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THAT THIS/ SHE/H.E.R. INSPIRED YOU!!!! Honestly, hearing from the ppl that came before me is what inspires me the most and keeps me going. We're young and invincible and then ALL OF A SUDDEN we realize that we're fading away and that we should've listened. But it's the natural progression to live free... then realize it has come upon us that we're not exactly the HOT thing anymore, that opportunities hv just passed us by, that our knees are bone on bone... that all of a sudden doing the same thing we've done our entire life just blew out our discs, or whatever your story is. I know for most of us love has brought us to our knees and it's so hard to get back up again and stay up. Hearing from the elders no matter what age... just the ppl that hv gone through more life and hv been knocked down... that they got back up again because of inspiration... that brings life into my soul. I feel blessed anytime and everytime y'all share that with us cuz it's a gift. Exactly the way you shared it is exactly the way I needed to hear it and exactly the way many others needed to hear it tonight or today. I'm no young buck but I'm not old... I'm 45 and I just want to say to ppl younger than me that it goes by in an instant. Please cherish it all and listen to those that are older and willing to give a little advice. Dang, that's so dope. I thought i recognized her in the Old Navy commercial but didn't know she played guitar. You could tell she knew how to hold it in the commercial so i got curious. Good stuff. I'm a fan now because she's pretty darn original and plays good guitar. Beautiful too.
