Reverence in ballet is the final bow, the grand finale, the moment where you get to show off all your hard work and dedication to the art form. 🦋 Often we include an easy port de bras, or standing elegant final stretch, following along with our teacher.
First things first, let's break down what a Reverence is.
In ballet, it's a formal gesture of respect and appreciation that dancers perform at the end of a class or performance. It's a way to acknowledge and thank the teacher, pianist, and fellow dancers for their hard work and support. 🫶
Now, let's move on to the phases of a reverence:
    Phase 1️⃣
Stand up straight and tall like a ballerina. Imagine that there's a string attached to the crown of your head pulling you up towards the ceiling. Now take a deep breath and exhale, letting go of any tension in your body.
    Phase 2️⃣
Place your right foot in front of your left foot, and lower your head and upper body towards your right foot, placing your right hand on your heart and your left hand on top of it. Think of it as giving yourself a little hug and saying "thank you" to your body for all the hard work it's done.
    Phase 3️⃣
Lift your head and upper body back up, and extend your right arm out to the side with your palm facing up. This represents gratitude towards your teacher and the knowledge they've shared with you.
    Phase 4️⃣
Take a small step back with your right foot, and extend your left arm out to the side with your palm facing up. This represents gratitude towards your pianist for the beautiful music they've provided.
    Phase 5️⃣
Finally, bring your feet together in first position or preparatory position, and lower your arms to your sides. This represents gratitude towards your fellow dancers for the support and camaraderie they've shown you.
And there you have it, a proper reverence! 💐
Remember to smile and enjoy the moment, because you've worked hard to get to this point. And if all else fails, just imagine that you're a graceful swan gliding across a lake, or a disco ballerina grooving to a funky beat.
    Keep dancing, my friend! 💕
