TH-cam has been lacking Eastern philosophy vids in English for a long time. Thanks for your clear explanation and introduction to Xunzi. I subscribed and put on my notifications, looking forward to more of your videos.

It is not just TH-cam sadly. Chinese philosophy or just any other traditions that is not from the West is mostly not taught in higher learning institutions even though that is where you are supposed to learn new things and be exposed to new ideas.. I won't just be talking about Eastern Philosophy though. I will also be covering many other non-western traditions and even some Greek traditions so hope you'll also enjoy them!

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:07 🌟 Xunzi explores the paradox of life and death, emphasizing that people may choose death not out of a desire for it but as a rejection of undesirable circumstances in life.
00:48 📚 Xunzi, a prominent Confucian philosopher born during the warring state period, faced neglect from later Confucian scholars due to the influence of monks' philosophy during the Tong and Song dynasties. Despite this, his impact on Chinese education and governance endured for over 2,000 years.
03:36 🔄 Xunzi challenges the Confucian tradition by asserting that human nature is inherently bad. However, he believes that through deliberate effort and rituals, individuals can overcome their negative inclinations and develop morally. Rituals, according to Xunzi, play a crucial role in shaping peaceful and orderly behavior.

Thank you! My video qualities are subpar since I do all the editing, and I don't know how to really do them so hope you can still enjoy the content despite the lack of quality in visual production.

Would you describe Confucionism as a religion? Confucius believed in heaven and advocated sacrifice and ancestor worship. Then again it routinely gets called a philosophy and there's more to it then I mentioned.

Your music choice and video editing are getting much better from your previous videos but still need a bit of work on your voice recording just a suggestion ;)

I think I like this guy a lot more than Mencius He seems to focus a lot more on practicality of government than the other philosophers that you’ve covered

Time to watch the lastest uploaded video then I think Mencius is also pretty great. Mencius is also a lot more underrated Confucius, at least in the west

I love this topic - philosophy - and especially Daosim and YangTzu. But, your audio is really bad and you speak a bit too quickly. Stay with this topic, though. I'd never heard of Xunzi before.
